Great video thanks. Excellent quality with good views of what was going on, and excellent lighting and sound too. Also great to have those little tips from you e.g. how to easier align bolts when putting the new throttle body in. Would love to see videos like this on the F55/56 Mini. Thanks again.
especially on this mini R56 ONE (not cooper) maybe its the same where the throttle b is located. when the area is free you can look down and see inside at one side of the throttle b. what about the other side behind the engine ---is it very necessary to clean the other side ?? front was clean , no signs of dried dirt
Thank you for the video! My N14 Cooper S has sporadic stuttering on acceleration, throws the half engine light and gives error code: 2B22 Throttle valve actuator, closing spring test. Do you reckon my throttle body needs to be replaced?
Foot Well Module Recall on 2010 through 2013. My 2011 base stalls. Added everything Utube said would fix it. Nothing fixed it. I even cut and checked the fuel pump relay and soldered it back together! Now I got a recall letter for free fix at Mini Dealer which is 80 miles away!. Can cause fire if not replaced!
Curious what the culprit was. Having similar issues with 2013 R56 N16 naturally aspirated. Changed the foot well panel with relay. Getting 10.8v to pump then car shuts off and then 0v. Reading 48psi at fuel rail but I've read conflicting numbers saying it should be 72psi and some saying it should be 50psi as I thought possibly it was fuel regulator in tank. It's starting to get irritating
Would you try cleaning first? I think this one was a slam dunk because it was so jammed. I’m getting sporadic lunging/stuttering mostly on the freeway. It’s also pretty cold here. What would you recommend? Thanks as always!
@@MikeMDs That’s good info. I’ve had my MCS for two years. I love it and I’m starting to get comfortable doing repairs and mods myself. I know my limits! 😆 So maybe my throttle body is on the way out. I’ll see what happens over the next few days. Thanks again. I just followed you on IG. 👍🏻
Most videos I've watched on this the guys pull the whole manifold out to get at throttle body. I have a 2007 mini S. Is this the same process as your video? Thx
Hey Mike great video! Ive had issues with my 2008 r56 mini cooper S, its hard to start and if it does it misfires and idles weirdly, the limp mode warning light comes on like you showed in the video. Ive changed the rocker gasket cover changed, water housing thermostat, fuel pump, sparks. My mechanic thinks it could be the computer playing up or dirty intake manifold. Its been at the mechnics for over a year now and Im defeated almost wanting to give up on the car but ive spent so much on it already. your assitance would be greatly appreciated
If it only runs rough on start up then smooths out, it could a high pressure fuel pump. In this case it will only throw engine misfire codes and no fuel pressure codes. This makes it hard to diagnose without the factory software. Also a bad throttle body can case this. Engine misfires with mass air flow faults. I have another video on the top reasons your MINI runs rough.
Kinda a random question but does anyone know if the newer 1.6 turbo engines from 2014 to 2015 are better then the older years? Since the engine was still used on later model countryman’s, coupe and roadsters.
Hello what is the probably cause of P111b fault code? New map sensor new o2 sensor, leak test and smoke test all good. No rough idle and no misfire. Its 2007 mini cooper r56 thank you
2011 mini s. Spits and sputters first thing in the morning. I shut it off and rebrand then it drives fine. Have had turbos, lines, coils, and spark plugs replaced? Is it this or electric fuel pump issue?
Hello friend i scan my mini 2012 s and i have those codes [00321d] temporary: Fuel tank ventilation system and purge air system, micro-leak: Leak greater than 0.5 mm.. the other one code is 0028BC Temporary Throttle valve, closing spring check: Cancellation of check, spring does not close, any idea please?🙏
Did you figure out the solution? My 2008 Cooper S gives me code "2B22 throttle valve actuator, closing spring test". It seems to be similar to your second code. Thank you!
Mine starts right up but then sputters and then runs ok then sputters again I got a check engine light on but of course I can’t read it cause something wrong with the plug it won’t communicate with the scanner I’ve checked every fuse as much of the wires I can find too the wiring harness is a nightmare in these minis
The description sounds like it is running lean though the numbers indicate otherwise. The popping as well, or backfire through the intake usually indicates lean mixture. Hard to say without seeing it though. You may still be correct. I've seen the breather pipe from the valve cover that goes under the intake cause your symptoms. It will be broken. But it looks fine because it has a mesh covering over it. The addatives indicated rich even though it was a lean situation. Additionally have you tried to smoke the intake and crankcase just to rule it out?
@@MikeMDs hi Mike thanks for replying in such detail, I need to get the airbox out of the way and inspect the breather hose more throughly. Also the inlet pipe doesn’t appear to ‘click’ or latch into place so I’m wondering if that’s not seated correctly. Sorry by smoke do you mean a smoke generator by the intake to look for leaks? (not that I have one)
You have a first generation MINI with a supercharger. Sorry this video is not for your engine. There is no way to know what is going on with it without seeing it in person.
I am also getting this code. so far I have replaced : valve cover/gasket, spark plugs and coils, vannos solenoid, air intake tube, turbo, high pressure fuel pump, fuel filter. I am still getting this code. I have checked the idle circuit pcv hose and it is not leaking. I am pretty lost as what to do now. mine is a 2009 s auto
That sure is a clean engine compartment for a 14 year old car. Owner must really love his Clubby 😎
Absolutely he does : )
That was a super tight, blindspot Mike. More power to you getting that bad boy in there!
Ha Ha thanks. You have to use your hands as eyes sometimes )
Thank you for the great video. I would have enjoyed the starting of the car as a great way to end all DIY videos . 😊
Thank you and Great suggestion!

Thank you. Im glad you enjoyed it. I will try and make more videos on newer MINI's :)
1st time I’ve seen this video thank you! This guy the reason I bought 2nd gen mini
Thank you man! This was exactly what was wrong with our car! Great video!
Glad it helped!

It sounds like the throttle is indeed faulty.

Well i've never seen one jamming because it was dirty. Something inside gets jammed up. I think the sprockets teeth chip off.

Awesome, thank you!
Where did you purchase your throttle valve body my mini is giving same codes thanks
You can get it at pelicanparts.com.

@MikeMDs yup I had the same problem an it was the high pressure fuel pump
@@MikeMDs thanks mike! I’ve replaced the HPFP already and still runs rough, would trial the throttle body next but it’s been a puzzle to fix
the same procedure also works on cooper s R56 N18 motor?
Kinda a random question but does anyone know if the newer 1.6 turbo engines from 2014 to 2015 are better then the older years? Since the engine was still used on later model countryman’s, coupe and roadsters.
Overall I like the newer engines better. Especially the S model 4 cylinder. The non S models are a three cylinder
Same idea as N18? I got an throttle issue and got a new one so hopefully this is the same method
Yes it is the same : )

@JvHB97 hello, for the code 00321d I just changed the gas cap, for the code 0028bc I changed the throttle body, now everything is perfect.
Does the throttle body need to be reprogrammed? Or is it a plug and play
No it is plug and play : )
Does that go for all throttle bodys or just the one that you used here?
Exelent video help a lot !!

Mike did this give a fault code? My R56 Cooper S is running rich and trying to work out where to start (no codes of engine light)
It is running rich but there are no codes?
@@MikeMDs yeah running rich popping even when barely warmed up no codes no stalling but just not right. Also additive mixture correction of -5.60

Yes a smoke machine to look for leaks. Best of luck!

Which mini engine is the easiest to work on?
Any of them that are a non S model.
