@@mikeoconnell9611 Hi Mike! I appreciate your response. We have two 2006 mini coopers ourselves. The problem that we are encountering is perhaps the throttle itself. Car sometimes goes into limp mode with a check engine light for the past 6 months. So we turn it off and turn back on successfully, check engine light goes off. We once checked it with my scanner showing a 1125 code. I am suspecting it could be the throttle body based on these symptoms

What brand throttle body did you get?
Hi there, i have a mini one r50 automatic, its in limp mode and the rpm won’t go more than 4,000, you think this is the problem? Hopefully you can help me or someone can many thanks in advance
My 03 base model standard just started doing this. Is it really that simple of a fix? I googled it and all the chatter made it out to be a big deal. For under $100 for the T. B. On eBay it seems worth trying to diy. If it doesn't fix the prob at least I have a new T. B.
I have the same codes except 1126, went limp mode on me on the way home late last night. It's happened before, dealer said it was a leaky boot. Same codes as last time. Think it's the same thing? Throttle body?
I had codes that indicated the throttle body, but the car ran fine. The prior owner replaced the throttle body 2 months ago (I have his receipts). I reset the codes (P1125, P0638, P1126, P1229) and waited. Several days of running fine, the it started rought and stalled twice, but ran fine on the third try. Again, the engine light came on, with codes this time P1125 and P1229. I made an appointment at a local independent shop that got good reviews. The shop diagnosed the issue as the engine wiring harness. The harness is $400, labor is $700, plus $100 for programming. What's your opinion about the diagnosis and the possibility for a DIYer to do this?
I can't comment on a diagnosis without seeing car myself. Changing the wiring harness requires no special tools; I don't know your skill level so I can't say whether it is possible for YOU to do this job or not. Programming is just clearing codes and resetting throttle adaptations. which can be done with this tool. amzn.to/2IhCfkk
Thanks for the reply. I was able to replace brakes, rotors, 1 caliper, and power steering hosed by myself. How would you rate the wiring harness replacement compared to those? Before I decide to replace the harness, I hope to check out the wires as best I can to see if there is a spot that shows damage from abrasion. If I see that, I may be able to repair the current harness. I'm very comfortable with soldering and heat shrinking.
@@ModMINI Since the wiring harness is a lot of work, and seems the least likely to be the issue I decided to replace the throttle body first. After ~100 miles, the symptoms returned. I then pulled the ECU to send it out for rebuild, but before I did that I noticed a bent pin on one connector that would cause the pin to not go into the socket properly, possibly making slight contact. I straitened the pin and have driven over 300 miles without issues. If I get to 500, I will assume that was the issue.
hello Mod MINI, thank you for the great video again! many of your videos were HUGE help with replacing supercharger on my 2005 cooper S. may i ask a question? Have you ever encountered P2127 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch "E" Circuit Low? I searched everywhere but no help on any web or forums? replaced gas pedal (used one) and removed/cleaned throttle body but still getting the same code.... any help would be GREATLY appreciated. thank you! Jay
I got that code, replaced my pedal with a used one, and still had trouble until I recalibrated the throttle pedal. Easy DIY recalibration. Look it up online, but my recollection is pedal held down, key on, hold pedal down 30 seconds, release pedal, key off.
hi, I wanted to ask you my problem, I have a Cooper s R53 and for two years I have the following error codes P2122 P2123. replacing the accelerator pedal, the problem reappeared after months, and then disappeared for other months, now it becomes more frequent. I will change the trottle body soon. but on the forums we read that the problem may persist ... the fault of the ECU! ?? Thank u
What ended up happening? Recalibrating the throttle pedal can be done easily. I forget the procedure exactly, but it may just have been holding the pedal down while turning the key to "on" (not starting the engine), and keeping the pedal down for thirty seconds, then release the pedal and turn the key off. I had to do that after replacing my pedal. 6 months later all has been well until today when I get P1125 and P1129, so I'm ordering a throttle body, I guess.
Is it possible to take apart the throttle body to clean / rebuild? I know it is bad. I will take it out first. If I can rebuild it, I don't have to wait for the replacement.
Really liked your video. I have a question. What could be causing me to have a check eng light and EML light ? I hooked up a scanner and got code: P1498 Air leakage after compressor. Could it be the intercooler boots? I have. 06 R53 S with 74,000 miles. Thanks for time.

Hey, so my mini makes a hissing noise by the throttle body. It's not turbo charged. Doesn't smell like a coolant leak either, so I'm thinking it's the throttle body. Another symptom is that after you press the accelerator the engine takes a little too long to come back to idle at 1000 rev/min. Does this sound like a l need to replace the TB?

I still have my ‘06 MCS convertible, my ‘08 MCS hatchback, and my ‘14 S Countryman. So lots of Mini’s still around for me to motor with. Take care friend, and happy motoring!
Hello I just bought a 2005 Mini Cooper automatic for my son and we are having a problem when we start the car it will start out fine Rev fine the moment we put it in Drive the car has a vibration feel with low RPM and no throttle response whatsoever any ideas that you can think of? There is a service engine light but I have not purchased a scanner yet I know that would be the best place to start with scanning it I'm just curious if Mini Coopers are known for this type of issue and if there is anything you can think of off the top of your head
Hello I Bought the 310+ to reset the adaption of the TB. But the Diagnose always says to me there is no connection. Everything else works. Car drives good as well. Any suggestions? Thx
Hi Mod Mini! Just had a P1125 code appear on my 2006 mini cooper. I cleared out the code with my cen-tech. Should i wait till the code appears again or should i change out the throttle body now? Already performed a tune up.
Hi, my 2006 manual mini turns off when i put it in reverse, do you know what could cause that?
Hello Mate, I have the same codes, but I replace the TB 10k Km before. this codes appear again, any recommendation? I need to replace again the TB? or I need to reset the codes from the ECU or something like that? Thakns!
Hi Mod Mini! Thank you for all the helpful videos! My R53 has a P2127 code Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch E Circuit Low. I have check engine light and/limp home mode...Is the sensor different from throttle body? I can't seem to find parts for throttle position sensor. Thank you for any guidance you can provide!
I changed the throttle body and it fixed my issue. Thank you Mob Mini.
@@simonkong7205 Hello Simon..having an issue with my mini and i believe my throttle body is the problem. Car goes into limp mode with a check engine light. I turn it off and goes back on with check engine light off. Thinking of changing out the throttle body..already cleaned it but i believe it is the electrical of the throttle body is the issue.
This has fixed the problem for every car where I've seen this code (4-5 cars)
I replaced mine and car giving me an evap leak code. What could it be? I made sure to tighten everything right. Nothings loose.
I have the same codes except 1126, went limp mode on me on the way home late last night. It's happened before, dealer said it was a leaky boot. Same codes as last time. Think it's the same thing? Throttle body?
Do a smoke test. Could be throttle body.
@@ModMINI Can you perform this step without messing up an aftermarket tune?
@@iserved1642 Clearing adaptations will not affect a tune.
I searched everywhere but no help on any web or forums? replaced gas pedal (used one) and removed/cleaned throttle body but still getting the same code.... any help would be GREATLY appreciated. thank you! Jay
Try replacing that perhaps. Used ones aren't expensive
2003 Mini Cooper S antifreeze Wells inside the reservoir replaced water pump thermostat and radiator still happens what do you think is the problem
Test the coolant for presence of exhaust gas to rule out blown head gasket
Could you please talk about the light strip above the dash. That is so cool and would love to install one on mine. Thanks!
Not my car. The owner installed an LED strip in the gap between the dashboard cover and the dashboard.
Is it possible to take apart the throttle body to clean / rebuild? I know it is bad. I will take it out first. If I can rebuild it, I don't have to wait for the replacement.
I wouldn't risk my life on such an endeavor.
I keep getting a p1239 ive pretty much replaced everything i can think of and still wont go away. Any help would be much appreciated
Really liked your video.
I have a question. What could be causing me to have a check eng light and EML light ? I hooked up a scanner and got code: P1498 Air leakage after compressor. Could it be the intercooler boots? I have. 06 R53 S with 74,000 miles.
Thanks for time.
I'd guess you have air leakage after compressor. Do a smoke test.
My R53 feels like it has a lazy throttle body, when I lift off the throttle during gear change the revs stay high for a second or so, have you ever come across this? Would really appreciate your help.
R53 is known to do this. Probably nothing to worry.
@@ModMINI Confirmed. Mine has done this since new.
Question? When the throttle body starts going bad what kind of sound if any does it make. I have this whirring/humming sound and goes a few seconds powering down when I turn the car off
It will throw codes when it goes bad. Noise after shutoff is normal.
Hi MOD MINI videos are great recently replaced BPV and serviced supercharger. My Mini cooper s 03 plate is still throwing a fault p1125 and going into limp mode, I can restart and it will be fine again for a while. As only the code dont think the throttle body has gone as runs great all the way through when that doesn't happen. Any suggestions on what could be causing it?
Have you replaced throttle body? They are pretty cheap used on eBay. ebay.to/2R8Xl7B
Hi Mod MINI I've got the error code :1689, 1125 and 0638 on my mini cooper s 2006. I think i wiil change the throttle follow your video I don't know will it work by the way Thank you for your helpfull video.
What it could be if only P0638 error appears? Thanks
Same for me, turning on the car the idle is ok, then it goes in protection if I accelerate over 3k rpm/min alerting P0638 error only, then the idle engine become strange until i turn off, thanks
Question! I have the check engine light on after putting the AC and was told that the hose that goes to the throttle body was loose. Now the light is off after driving the car for a little while. Not sure if I might have to fix the throttle body part too. It has stopped responding to switch gear again and did not had the air on.
If car is not put together correctly, you will have problems.
p1692 it's that also a replacement code?
Do you have any idea what might cause EP (emergency program) on automatic R52 with sport mode and paddles? Continuosly lit. It can still shift, not stuck in one gear.
Need to scan the computer and read codes.
Even if my issue is irrelevant to the video I still have to click it and hit like period
Yes, you have to click it and hit like. That is the rule.
Perform smoke test and fix source of air leak. Car computer is confused due to introduction of unmetered air.
@@ModMINI how might I go about doing that?
Sir can you hellp me where port code 2138 .. im new use mini cooper r53
Hi im having a problem with the full body throttle too on my 2009 mini. I spoke with the mechanic but he doesnt even know the part number for it. Im trying to find someone that can help me with the part # at least thanks
Where does the tube connect to off the side of the throttle body ?
will this cause a lack of pressure in the fuel rail?
I changed the throttle body like you did, but I didn’t reset it, and it works great but when I changed the throttle body the abs now are failing, actually the mini show me some codes and I don’t know how to repair it, can you help me with that?
you need a diagnostic scanner that can read the DSC module codes to know what is wrong.
@@ModMINI thank you a lot! actually the throttle body was fine, but i had a problem with the battery and that was doing the problems
What is the vacuum line/hose that you disconnected from the throttle body? Mine looked really old and cracked last time I worked on the car so I'd like to order a new one to replace it, but am away from my car for a while so I am unable to look under the hood to trace it.
crankcase recirculation. Look up realoem.com for part numbers, although that one you could probably use equivalent diameter fuel line.
@@ModMINI I think I'll try the fuel line idea and just replace the rubber section. Cheaper than getting a whole MINI hose. Thanks for the tip.

Could it be possible that a TB when going bad trigger the EML to come on? I was on the freeway today and car shut off then when started back up EML light came on.
Yes, but read the codes. You need codes or you're blind.
I have a 2005 r50. I recently replaced the cylinder head and now it won't start. It starts for a little bit and dies out. New coil pack, wires and spark plugs... also a new camshaft position sensor... could it the throttle body sensor? Or stuck on limp mode?? Or the anti theft system?? Are eBay throttle bodies safe to use? I would think for something like that you'd need OEM
I would buy new OE manufacturer or used over new aftermarket.
I bought the Creator c310+ and I don't see how to rest the throttle adaptation. I changed the TPS/throttle valve and don't see how to get the C310+ to reset the throttle adaptation. Any ideas??? Thank you!
I bought the same tool but it won't connect to the throttle to clear the adaptation it only conects on the ecm to see the info it doesn't give choices to reet from there either.
What would happen if we don't clear the adaptation. Can you help.!
Is there a way to contact you about an issue I’m having? I’ve gone to a MINI racing shop with a lot of knowledge and I’ve done my research. No one on multiple FB groups can figure it out as well as the shop after over 7 hours of inspection and testing.
If you've gone to shops that have looked at the car in person, and still unable to give you an answer, I will be of no additional help not being able to see the car.
My dashboard turns on by its self after i turn off my car and wont turn off causing my battery to die. The only thing I have found to stop it is to leave my mini in reverse I have a 2003 R53. Would you know what could cause this?
Not the throttle body. Not sure. Run a full computer diagnosis
2003 mini , check engine light is on but there’s no issues but if I come to a stop and let it idle the check engine light starts to flash and engine changes to run not so good. I can turn it off and back on and it resets the issue and this only happens when it idles never while driving. Even sitting at a stop light I can hold the gas to keep the rpm’s at 1500 and it doesn’t trigger the light to flash.... any ideas off hand?
read the codes.
I don’t have a code reader, money is tight and have no tools, long story but kind of starting over in life....lol.
I was just trying to get an idea but thanks for the reply at least. Your videos are excellent and I’m glad there’s people like you doing these types of videos for others....Easy to follow...
Do I have to reprogram
When looking at scan tools, how do we know which ones do throttle body adaptation? I see your list of three, but owners of those are mentioning others they like better, like the Autophix 7810.
Really hard to get detailed information like that. Even manufacture is unlikely to know for sure due to continual changes in software. I think that is only supported on most expensive tools.
@@ModMINI a friend tried a SnapOn Verus Pro and couldn't find it. Thanks.
When I’m in neutral I can floor it and it won’t go over 1000 RPM I changed the coil pack , new spark plugs and the same I wounder to see if you could help me out on this 🤦🏻♂️
scan for codes.
I ordered the Creator V8.0 C310 and just found out that it does not support the throttle body adaptation, just clear the fault code. Unfortunately it is not worth to return it due to the shipping fee back (I leave in Israel) :(
It should probably sort itself out over time.
Hi I have a 02 Mini Cooper s and it idles rough but otherwise acceleration seems pretty good until today I was driving accelerating about 3/4 throttle and all sudden at 3k RPMs it felt like the motor shut off like it completely lost power I let off and then it was good now every once in awhile around 3K RPMs it does it when I'm accelerating fast. Earlier today the check engine came on and it did throw p1125 and p0442 codes but then it turned off now the light came on again after It started stumbling but I haven't checked the codes again yet. Seimens is OEM so yes.
Hi, I have 06 cooper s and have a code P0303 and P0313, and the engine light is on. I have replaced the spark and the coil but the code is still there. I think it's the problem from the injector or the fuel pump. Any suggestions?
Many thanks for your video
You would need a diagnostic scanner with live data stream capability to figure this out. Could be anything without doing further diagnostics. Burnt exhaust valves are a common problem on these cars as well with higher mileage
@@ModMINI Thanks so much for your reply. I have a ODB scanner that can show the live data. What spersific numbers should I look at. I'm also thinking the head gasket leaking can be the problem because i can see some thin oil floating on the water tank. The car runs good. But when i stop and the temperature is up and the fans and water pump begin to work, then I can feel the misfire. Many thanks for the help!!
@@yunbow5630 It is beyond the scope of a comment section to advise what should be normal live data, but you don't need a scanner to tell you that you should suspect a blown head gasket based on the symptoms you are now reporting. The coil pack almost never fails, by the way

Will be removing it just for a clean, should i unplug the battery before doing this? Have an r53 with problems starting. Recently changed spark plugs, battery and fuel pump to try to address the issue without success. Also, Here and there the code P0138 pops up, pointing to the lambda sensor after the cat convertor, could that also be why the engine is flooding itself before turning on after 7 seconds?
