You might need to replace your 2002-2006 MINI Cooper R53 Throttle body if you get a check engine light/limp home mode. Procedure similar for non-supercharged R50.
    Buy the throttle body here:

Diagnostic tools that can reset throttle body adaptation:

Thanks for doing this video I replaced mine on an 06 S I have but I never did the reset on the throttle body it worked fine but later on couple of weeks later I got codes and I the rpms where where going up and down then the car would go on li.p mode and give me a code 1498 and 1125 I did replaced a broken hose and also the bypass valve for the supercharger with anew gasket and still gave the code and would idle up and down.
I just bought another new throttle body and the BMW tool the 360+ but it won't connect the the throttle body to clear the adaptation.
It only comes to read it but not to clear it. Right now it's working fine what would happen if I can't clear the adaptation! I ha e no more air leaks it's driving me crazy. Can you help. Me!

You can do a throttle reset ( throttle relearn procedure) just by depressing the gas pedal with key in acc power mode for 30seconds, turn off key WHILE still depressing pedal and remove the key and then release the gas pedal. You SHOULD hear your throttlebody actuate ( a buzz noise followed by a click kinda sound ).

Hello mod mini, i have my mini Cooper r52 cabriolet 2005 that is giving me some issues. First of all has a long cranck to start ( like 3 or more seconds) then irregular idle and the engine has not all power and not fast response of the engine when I touch the throttle pedal, plus engine check light on and the error my mechanic said is about missfires and too rich gasoline mix. I changed air filter, sparkplugs and body throttle cleaned and resetted but the problem persists. My mechanic said that I should replace the body throttle, but can't be the depression hose or pedal sensor? The car has 190.000km what do you think about? Do you suggest an original one in case or a Siemens ? Thanks

I'm thinking about buying an 05 mcs but don't think I will be doing my own repairs. No tools, no (garage) space, and no experience. It's got tons of service records but it's got 80k miles so it'll probably hit the big ticket maintenance items soon. Am I looking at a situation where I'm spending tons on mechanics in the near future? It's had most of the usually leaking seals replaced i think, nothing replaced in terms of the suspension though probably, unless mini did it themselves within the 60k miles it was taken to them for regular servicing which I doubt.

Quick question.... my 2003 MCS (with 193,000 mi and manual transmission) had an accelerator pedal non-response yesterday. No codes, no engine light, no rough idle, nothing. Just went to a smooth idle with no pedal response. First time anything like that has ever happened. I pulled off the road, turned off the ignition and popped the hood for a quick visual. Got back in the car and restarted it and everything was fine for the ride home. My thoughts today are that the throttle body is telling me that it's probably time to replace it. Looks like a fairly simple procedure thanks to your video. Have you ever heard of such a situation that didn't produce and engine light/code? Thanks, Mike

I had codes that indicated the throttle body, but the car ran fine. The prior owner replaced the throttle body 2 months ago (I have his receipts). I reset the codes (P1125, P0638, P1126, P1229) and waited.
Several days of running fine, the it started rought and stalled twice, but ran fine on the third try. Again, the engine light came on, with codes this time P1125 and P1229. I made an appointment at a local independent shop that got good reviews.
The shop diagnosed the issue as the engine wiring harness. The harness is $400, labor is $700, plus $100 for programming.
What's your opinion about the diagnosis and the possibility for a DIYer to do this?

    • @ModMINI
      @ModMINI  5 лет назад

I can't comment on a diagnosis without seeing car myself. Changing the wiring harness requires no special tools; I don't know your skill level so I can't say whether it is possible for YOU to do this job or not. Programming is just clearing codes and resetting throttle adaptations. which can be done with this tool. amzn.to/2IhCfkk

Thanks for the reply. I was able to replace brakes, rotors, 1 caliper, and power steering hosed by myself. How would you rate the wiring harness replacement compared to those?
Before I decide to replace the harness, I hope to check out the wires as best I can to see if there is a spot that shows damage from abrasion. If I see that, I may be able to repair the current harness. I'm very comfortable with soldering and heat shrinking.

I then pulled the ECU to send it out for rebuild, but before I did that I noticed a bent pin on one connector that would cause the pin to not go into the socket properly, possibly making slight contact. What ended up happening? Recalibrating the throttle pedal can be done easily. I forget the procedure exactly, but it may just have been holding the pedal down while turning the key to "on" (not starting the engine), and keeping the pedal down for thirty seconds, then release the pedal and turn the key off. I had to do that after replacing my pedal. 6 months later all has been well until today when I get P1125 and P1129, so I'm ordering a throttle body, I guess.

Hey, so my mini makes a hissing noise by the throttle body. It's not turbo charged. Doesn't smell like a coolant leak either, so I'm thinking it's the throttle body. Another symptom is that after you press the accelerator the engine takes a little too long to come back to idle at 1000 rev/min. Does this sound like a l need to replace the TB?

Will be removing it just for a clean, should i unplug the battery before doing this? Have an r53 with problems starting. It has always started, but takes the engine a good 7 seconds of the starter motor turning for it to turn on. Once it does the exhaust smells rich with fuel. Recently changed spark plugs, battery and fuel pump to try to address the issue without success. Also, Here and there the code P0138 pops up, pointing to the lambda sensor after the cat convertor, could that also be why the engine is flooding itself before turning on after 7 seconds?
