    Be careful when tightening worm clamps (Jubilee style) on plastic tubes. The lump underneath the screw gear in the clamp will cause the plastic to eventually crack. A spring clamp like those used on Japanese hoses gives even pressure all the way around without fracturing the plastic. Ask me how I know.
    Great video! I enjoy the relaxed voice with the speedy work and NO IRRITATING BACKGROUND MUSIC.

    Great Video. Good to know you can access those two annoying intake bolts from the top. I always have to access them from underneath.

    For anyone struggling with the hidden bolt. It's very close to the rubber and steel bracket that you first had to undo, the rubber piece that holds the steel bracket lets it flop around a bit but there are also a host of pipes and cables that may get in the way. I spent almost 2 hours trying to get on that one last hidden bolt. I had to squeeze the socket and short extension past some pipes and cables. i could feel the bolt with my fingers but i couldn't get the socket onto it. In the end it was because i was coming in on too flat an angle you almost need to come up from below like 50 degrees angle or something. Keep stabbing around and up at that angle till you finally feel the 10mm engage, then it comes no worries. I only needed to remove the chain tensioner to check it's length. I think i was sold a short one like the first ones that came out. There are longer ones available as far as i understand. I've cleaned my vanos valves and if that doesn't stop the noise i'll be trying to buy a longer timing chain tensioner. The new one has a stiffer spring but it's the same length as the original one which is why so many r56 suffered premature timing chain noise.

    EXCELLENT VIDEO! what was the trouble code? I just got a rough idle P0012 "A" camshaft position - timing over-retarded bank 1 .. In the past ive already done timing chain, HPFP, valve cover gasket with PCB valve twice, thermostat, etc. Could it actually be vanos solenoid?

    • @drewdegeer4432
      @drewdegeer4432 Год назад +2

      I had replaced the Vanos Solenoid and still had codes for 300.301,302, which said I had bad coils, but it was the pipe in this video that caused all the issues, I am about to replace it tomorrow. I bought 3/4 hose, High temp, high pressure and also clamps for each end, I also have springs to fit inside to stop any crimping of the Hose. From what I have gathered this will solve the issue. This hose cracks and dies, it is really low quality and suffers death if you are messing around that area, ie replacing throttle body, Vanos solenoid (broke it for me).

    In the Mini you have easy access to those parts.... I have a Citroen (same engine), where the windshield frame goes like halfway over the engine. I have a 10 cm gap between engine and that frame. It's even super hard to change the air filter. Guess I'm fucked.

    my friend can you help me? The hose change that you did for the idling problem will be associated with this code 2177 in the konwei OBD2 scanner where the definition is (very poor idle system turned off bank 1) my car is a mini Cooper S turbo model 2008 R56 N14 it will have should I also change that hose like you did? Could it be that the problem you had with your car is the same problem that I have with my car and I have to change the same hose? I would appreciate your answers and you can help me, I would be very grateful to you thank you

    My mini 1.4 base 2010 is goin in the garage for repair on the idle, it's not stable when hot, never settling on any revs always dropping the speeding up. No management lights nore any problems showing on the electronic gizmo when attached however they did say leave it with them for further investigation & maybe its because I always turn the stop/start Off !!
    Other issue I have is the amount of oil I'm using - 2 litres in 800miles or 1300km. is this a little much to be burning ?
    The garage say it's about correct usage of oil.
    Now to the garage, it's the garage I purchased the vehicle from and is still under the warranty they give hence I'm a little dubious of their opinion that it's a problem they dont want fix and once my warranty is finished the can smile & the problem gets worse leaving me to pay future repairs
    Removal of the oil cap whilst hot theres oil smoke drifting out !! Again the garage say it's just " spent oil " & its expected of bmw mini of this age 2010

    • @gompro4943
      @gompro4943  2 года назад

      Sorry to hear that, some hot smoke can be shown through the oil cap but I think 2L per 800miles is quite a lot consumption. In any case, unstable idling should be fixed under the warranty from the shop. Shouldn't it? I hope it will be fixed soon!

      @gompro4943  2 года назад +1

      Hi um I don't remember there was difference from those two bolts. I thought the diameter was different wasn't it? In any case, I believe the length is not that critical since the load will not be that heavy.

    how did you knew it was that? Do you have any video doing the problem? I have a similar problem. When i start the car everything seems ok but after some minutes running or after hard accelerating and stopping at a light it starts rough idling.

    • @gompro4943
      @gompro4943  3 года назад +1

      I don’t have the video but I had the same problem as your description. Cold start was good but after enjoying the mini, rough idle or stalling happened at stop. Even at neutral, stalling was never happened as long as the vehicle is moving at certain speed. I have tried plug change, solenoid valve, intake air line, pcv valve cover change, and engine oil change, and o2 sensor replacement. I would suggest you to do in the order of oil change first, pcv diaphragm replacement, O2 sensor replacement, and intake air hose maintenance, so that you can minimize cost and time for the works. Trust me, it may sounds wierd, but early oil change also works sometimes for cars with high mileage or years.

      @alejandroledesmaceballos8185 3 года назад

      Thanks actually this week I have schedule the oil change. I saw you use kirkland oil have you had any issue with it?
      About the problem again. The car never showed a error message or check engine light? I already scanned it and I dont hace any code.
      Ill follow your advice, hopefully it solve the problem.

    • @gompro4943

      @@alejandroledesmaceballos8185 kirkland synthetoc oil was really great. I will keep using this. I used to have engine chk light due to the old o2 sensor even before I have noticed the issue for the first time. At that time, I just turned the light off and disappeared for like an year but rough idle started time to time. Rough idle might be a very complex problem but if you narrow down by fixing one by one, you will notice soon. Good luck.

    Do you know how to diagnose alternator problem (battery not charging) without opening the alternator? Like is there any alternator wiring or fuse that I can test?

    • @drewdegeer4432
      @drewdegeer4432 Год назад +1

      I had an alternator issue. It was an old battery and also a short in my ECU that drained the battery. I had spent 1 month trying to figure out the issue. I sent my ECU to ECU Testing in the UK, they took care of the issue and the alternator never became and issue after that, I also replaced the battery, and charged the battery before installing the ECU.

    • @wahabfiles6260
      @wahabfiles6260 Год назад

      @@drewdegeer4432 I found the problem with the alternator, it requires an ECU signal to switch on so we cannot test it outside, it requires special machine which supplies the same signal the ECU provides and then by running with belt outside the engine we can test it. The problem with mine was blown off regulator, bought the new regulator and it fixed the problem

    When you remove the air intake by any chance can you have access to the water pipe that is connected to the water pump and Thermostat housing?
    Thank you.

    • @gompro4943
      @gompro4943  3 года назад

      You need to take out the intake manifold to access to the pipe. Air intake box removal will not give a clearance to access from top.

    My wife bought one of these r56 mini cooper against my advice. She put 168 miles on it and it is literally falling apart. First the alternator stopped working, then the radiator started leaking, then the steering rack went bad,then the battery went bad , also has a massive oil and coolant leak somewhere that l can't locate .after replacing everything the car now has a rough idle and lacks power. The obd port won't communicate with my Snap on scan tool. I'm about at wits end with this POS of a car. I'm getting ready to take a $5500.00 loose plus parts and times and send it to the scrap yard where it belongs.
