    I have struggled underneath the car for that last intake bolt several times. THANK YOU for showing me a better way! I am pulling intake and thermostat housing today. This one tip will save me quite a bit of frustration. I have also heard others say that they do not put that last bolt in, but I have opted to include it each time despite the swearing and high blood pressure. Great video!

    Just wanted to say your videos are great.
    And for those who might find this daunting because of that last nut under the intake, mine (2009 cooper s r57) didn't have one! It only had 5 nuts and all on the top of the intake! So check if yours has. If it doesn't, then it's very easy

    I have the OEM noise generator pipe that’s against the fire wall. That was a pain to get off at first but finally got it. The bolts holding the pipes were turned all the way on the other side where I couldn’t loosen. Someone has been in there before. Oh under the manifold the wiring harness on the driver side is zipped tied really tight to where you can’t get to it easily since the manifold it’s held down by the zips. Very little room to work and usually have to feel things rather than look. It’s annoying but possible. If I had to do it again it would be much easier. The first time taking manifold off is a biz itch

    I missed the part when you said the bottom bolt was a 10mm torx. I almost stripped mine putting a regular 10mm later to figure out it was a Torx. Thx

    Any suggestions on getting it back on correctly. I manage to align the body with the five screws, but I have about a half inch gap between the gasket seals and the body where it connects. For context, I also replaced the plastic breather hose with a 3/4 hose-and it seems to be in the way of the first screw to the left of the firewall. However, even when removing the hose to see if that’s the problem-the intake housing doesn’t lay flat on the screws. Please help!

    Hey thanks so much for this guide. I just got my intake manifold off and a few of clips with the wiring harnesses were a bit of a pain, mainly because there is not a lot of room to maneuver your hand. One thing I noticed on mine is that the bottom 10mm bolt holding the manifold to the engine block was missing. Would this being miss cause an improper seal at the valves, or should it be fine?

    This is an excellent watch, thank you.
    I am having to get to the throttle body on a Peugeot 308 Petrol Turbo and have been struggling to work out how to do so. I guessed I might have to take the intake manifold off but actually I could only see 3 screws, but there are 5, good stuff. And a few tricks after that to boot.
    This video has answered all my questions and helped a heck of a lot.
    Mind you there is way more space in your Mini to get to the back of that engine, however I have got the general idea and am off to get it done.
    Your share on this is worth me buying you a beer 🙂
    Cheers

    Does anyone know if this give s better access to the water coolant pipe? I changed my thermostat housing and water coolant pipe without removing the intake manifold, but I can't get the pipe and thermostat housing to fully seat together(metal clip). Pipe is fully seated into the water pump housing, but it's a few mm short of seating fully in the thermostat housing so that the metal retention clip can do its job.

    • @ProjectMini
      @ProjectMini  4 года назад +1

      Did you watch my video on how to change the water pipe? I explain in that video how to get it to seat. But to answer your question you will definitely have better access to the water pipe but you don’t need it if you install the pipe like i show you in my video

    • @zeykshade
      @zeykshade 4 года назад +1

      @@ProjectMini Yes. Everything went perfectly fine but the tube from the thermostat housing isn't reaching far enough into the coolant tube to line up the slot for the retention clip. I torqued the thermostat housing down to specs as well. I may loosen it and just fiddle with it some to see if it's a misalignment thing or something.

    • @ProjectMini
      @ProjectMini  4 года назад

      Are you saying the tube needs to come towards the thermostat housing? If so you should definitely pull it back out. It shouldn’t be able to go that far into the water pump

    • @zeykshade
      @zeykshade 4 года назад +2

      @@ProjectMini I took everything back out and tried to seat them by hand outside of the car, coolant pipe to thermostat housing and it was ridiculously hard to do. The o-ring on the thermostat housing is so large that once you get it seated it will immediately spit the tube back off.
      I swapped the o-ring with the original thermostat housing o-ring and test fit it, it's much more reasonable to seat. Put it all back in the car and got the metal retention clip in place with the tube seated in the waterpump housing. Refilled everything and of course it leaks. Looks like it's leaking from the coolant tube to thermostat housing joint. I'll mess with it again tomorrow. Likely take it all apart again and put the new o-ring on and struggle like hell to get the retention clip seated and see if that fixes it.

    • @ProjectMini

    Hi there, thanks for these videos. My Mini Cooper S R56 recently was idoling very rough. My mechanic was unable to determine the problem other than it's not getting enough air. In the end I took it to Mini to try and locate the issue. Yesterday I was advised there is carbon build up in the intake manifold and that it would need walnut blasting. I can only imagine how much they are going to charge me (I've already been charged hundreds of £ for them to diagnose the issue :( ). Any recommendation on how to prevent this from happening in the future? Thanks.
