Pretty cool footage and vocalizations. You have a lot of really helpful info available to us that is different from all the rest. I can appreciate the more "theory based" side to calling by knowing what you are saying to the elk and how and when to say it. Rather than just perfecting the sound and blasting away, one can choose to speak their lingo the right way and surely be more successful in calling in elk. Thanks for the insight and all your content Chris.
Women sound like Elk, Snow Leopards, Bobcats or Vixen. [when I say vixen, i'm not referring to the vixen's scream, I'm referring to Vixen (female foxes) and the noises they make.] All women are one of those or a mix of them... this is why a common joke among hunters is "Lmao, that thing sounds like my wife." and the guys lmao at it... because if you listen closely, you can hear a woman.
@@SDreamsProductions19 It's got me puzzled though because first she doesn't appear to be in her fall & winter coat, fall/autumn is when the breeding season takes place. And if she's in estrus why aren't any bulls picking up her pheromones? Maybe she's just lonely wanting to get back with the herd?
@@watchensee September is when. Here is AZ on the rim, where most of the elk are, it is still in the 70's during the day and lows in the 40's. They are not in a winter or fall coat yet. Cows and bulls don't hang out a lot outside of the rut. Bulls bugle to find cows. She might be hot and ready and a bull just has not picked her up yet. She is calling to let any nearby bulls know to come do the deed. Pheromones alone are not guaranteed to pick up a bull in an area where there is hunting pressure and elk are being pushed around, or areas where population densities are low.
Filmed in July... first guess, without any additional information... lost calf. Her nose is working hard. Sounds like this is near a roadway; can see shadows of what appear to be vehicles. This could be a situation in which her calf was hit by a vehicle. Lost calf or she lost the herd.
I figured she probably wasn't in estrus because she's not in a cold weather fur coat, breeding season is in autumn and there's no bulls hanging around her.
Heard that plenty the last two days hunting!! One bowl I was in was just nuts! Between the bugling, cow and calf calls, and the estrus calls. ..never heard anything like it before chasin elk in my life!! Over 7 bulls in this drainage just screamin...
I used this video to call a bull to 15ft this weekend I seriously did not think it would work but when I heard the cows doing this I figured I would give it a try since I am not that good in calling yet.
Just don’t get caught by the game warden if you are in Colorado using electronic audio to call will end you up with a big fine! Good tactic I would have done the same tho
I had a feeling that this much calling wouldn't draw anything in or bring a response. Was there anything we couldn't hear? We're there other elk in the area? This makes me feel a little better when they don't respond. My calls sound pretty damn close to this too
Listen to the Podcast for the full scenario, or jump onto the Elk Module at www.RoeHuntingResources.com to hear NUMEROUS discussions on this vocalization, and why it has nothing to do with Estrous. ...this was filmed in July, btw.
I lived where a herd did (about 100 head) and watched them while I used calls. Bulls did not care to investigate bugles and seemed perhaps they were risking their harem and kept their distance. A simple cow 'mew' brought cows in the where they passed by me on both sides at one time, then maybe last to appear was as usual the bull. The bulls are the same as the big mule deer bucks...they wait for everyone else to go ahead, cows, rag horn bulls and spikes before they came out into the open. Bulls are super wary and most footage I have watched I must assume was taken in national parks or private land refuges. Guys with money pay thousands to hunt private land with a guide. Half the licenses here in Colorado are drawn by out of state hunters. Total BS for us residents who cannot hunt every year because most elk tags and all deer tags are limited to drawings... unless you go 'late season' - after dark. You can pick up road kill though which is about 7000 mule deer a year. If a semi hit it - forget it. As for hit by a sedan they used to say "steak on the grill". Opening morning near Gunnison the Texans as we called them woke up a herd and the rifle fire lasted about two minutes. Imagine in your mind two minutes of that! I didn't even bother to hike up as it is steep country and I didn't know what trail to drive on so went on about my lame hunt!
i use this call when I'm at home on the porch at 10 pm enjoying beers. It calls the cows in first and they start mewing . When there's enough of a racket around my land the big bulls start coming in . I only have to play this for maybe a hour .
Just posted another - different - video to The Gallery in the Roe Hunting Resources Elk Module that is a full 45-minutes of every cow/calf vocalization you could ever hope to hear and practice to! ...check out the "Alpine Cow/Calf Herd Talk" video! Good luck this season!
If you all haven't seen a documentary called.... It's worse than you think... By revelations of Jesus Christ ministries... I suggest you do..... All praise and glory to the most high Jesus Christ
LOL! You just watched her do it! ...put on HD, and then watch her chest/rib-cage/diaphragm closely - you'll see her pushing the air out while she's vocalizing. Nothing fake about anything RHR shares. But thanks for watching!
Yes, cow elk do bugle. But it is now as loud or as blown out as a bull it's typically a shorter lower volume. I have also watched and heard calf chirping and they sounded like a bird.

Female Elks Bugles: Screams of a old lady.
Male Elk Bugles: The stuff of nightmares.
Its the opposite. Male bugle is easily identifiable.
So glad Way of the Hunter captured some of these calls.
My boyfriend said I sound like an female elk when I do my silly give me attention sounds... so I listened. I found out today I am an elk.
Same

wow thats crazy i never actually seen a cow elk making noise
The female elks bugle is just as beautiful as the males, but not as haunting

Am I the only one who was reminded of whales listening to this?
Good ears!
This reminds me of WolfQuest 1.2
That was bootiful
Huh so is this what a female wendigo sounds like?
No .female Wendigo's make the same sounds as male elks.
I know nothing about Elk or hunting but this animal sounds like it is in distress and looking for it's herd or Mom or something???
Wow great sounds.
This elk is saying: Where my boys at?!
NO." where my BABES at"
That sound like 5yo me looking for my mom when we were home and I thought she was kidnapped 😂but the vid was cool
This elk is special lol
Didnt know cows bugled very cool sounded like she might have been coming off a little to desperate the boys are like ya im good.

I just called in a huge bull with this holding it in the window.
Nice! Congrats!
Amazing
Oh my god its Arthur Morgan
Wow
Not as majestic as the males but still beautiful
There is another video of a cow that really lets out a bugle more like a bull.
Those calls are kinda cute ngl
Can you take off all the damn adds on the video & let us watch it in peace?
