Man that brings back memories. How old are your boys? They are hard workers. I know you are proud of them. Thanks for sharing your life on your homestead Micah. I found your channel not long ago. I watch and it brings back memories of when I was a young boy. Thanks again and see y’all next video.
I love how you guys all work together ! It's not been like that for me here lately everyone has got their own things . I'm sure that will be more than enough to get you through for a few months since you're not eating them . We still need to dig our potatoes it's just finding the right time with 3 boys in football . We went a couple of months with very little rain and now it's been raining every day since Sunday which is almost perfect timing for the farmers around here . Thanks for sharing and have a great day !
My wife's great uncle used a middle buster on an old Ford tractor to turn up the potatoes in the garden on a visit to his farm in NW Missouri many years ago. It was amazing how the potatoes just seemed to come from nowhere when he drove down the row. The sandy loam made picking them quite easy. We hauled them down to the root cellar to cure. The uncles are all gone now and the farm was sold off. We'll be headed up this fall for her 50+year (the covid lockdown postponed her actual 50th) high school reunion. Those boys know where their supper comes from for sure.💪😅 Every child should work a garden or farm at least once in their life.
@@williamgaines9784 Yes. I couldn’t agree more. A middle buster would make the harvesting so much easier. But you have to know where the row is to use a middle buster. 😂😂😂
Thanks a lot Mr. McGie, sure brings back fond memories of my own youth, although at the time I probably wasn't so happy to doing that type work in the ninety degree summers. Those boys of yours sure do earn their keep as my Dad used to say.
Oh boy I love a good potato 🥔 especially a baked potato with lots of toppings. This video was fun to watch although it was a lot of work for your boys. It brings back memories of my grandpa and uncles working the garden in Kentucky. Good video. ❤️😄👍
Good morning Brother. Those potatoes are the size of the ones I had last year. I had a normal amount of them under each plant but they were smaller than the year before. Not enough rain on them last year. That native artifact was a cool find. I'm not quite sure what it was but definitely man made. I like that sorta thing. Have a good day my friend.

You Need a middle buster type plow & a rock rake to find the buried ones! lol You still got a harvest! ! Homegrown are good eating for sure! Between all that spring rain, the weeds/grass that comes from constant rain, & the potato beetles, my potato harvest was lacking this year... But i have fall potatoes started...

@McGieHomesteadAdventures I love all the horse drawn equipment. Very nearly bought a John Deere ride-on tater picker upper a few years ago. Had a big spade bit you lowered in the ground and it put the potatoes on a conveyor and spit them off the side. Love the old stuff.
If I were you next year id run a string line down each row about an inch above the ground so that you will know where it is regardless of if you have to take the mower across it
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures Hope the corn gets enough to make. We got a hard rain storm Monday and Tuesday, the power went out . The wind blowed down a lot of my corn. The rest will survive I hope. Hope you had a great day friend!👍👨🌾
At my grandparents farm we planted the potatoes just like the way you did but I think they had a single bottom plow, after plow went threw we pushed the potatoes into the bank at the bottom then the plow would come threw and we would plan until we were done, to harvest the potatoes we used a walk behind v-plow with a tractor like you are doing but v-plow was bigger than what you are using, it would roll the potatoes on top of the dirt on both sides, and keep doing that till done, that worked really good at getting the potatoes out, after they would run a chisel plow threw a few times to get what was missed, but really didn't miss to many, I don't remember any weed issues I don't remember if my grampa went and weeded it by hand or if it was just because they were close together, not sure on that, the potatoes also weren't hilled up either, and I know you said you don't plant potatoes in the same spot for 3 or 4 years, we planted the potatoes in the same spot every year.

Well son, it looks like you may be buying or bartering for potatoes this year. 😞 Maybe not since you don’t eat them anymore. 😂 IDK. Anywho, nothing like what I’m used to seeing you harvest.
