インディアンと暮らしていた白人女性クレスタ（キャンディス・バーゲン）は騎兵隊の護衛を受けて婚約者のもとへと旅立つが、途中インディアンの襲撃に遭い隊は全滅、奇跡的に生き残ったクレスタと若い兵士ホーナス（ピーター・ストラウス）は荒野のサバイバル道中でしだいに惹かれ合っていく。
当時、クライマックスの騎兵隊によるインディアン集落大虐殺シーンが話題となりました。
主題歌を歌うバフィー・セント・メリーは同年「いちご白書」の主題歌”サークル・ゲーム”でも注目されたイディアン・シンガーソングライターです。

Hi Mariel1958! I'm sumirecolor from Japan. RUclips recommended your video. I saw the title and decided to watch it. I remember I watched this movie a long time ago. That's Ralph Nelson's picture and Candice Bergen and other actors acted in it. Although the story was cruel and sad, I feel the song is beautiful. Thank you^^
