I used to bank fish Chabot. Alot of good memories at that lake. He passed away 6 months ago. We fished many places that you show in your videos. Thanks for helping me relive the memories.
Now I don’t feel so bad for renting a boat spending all day out on that lake and not getting a single bite. Chabot has humbled many a fisherman.
By humbled you mean the fish are stubborn sometimes or there's not many fish in general
Watching this video made me feel so good about how this place just sucks and how all those times I went out there and caught nothing wasnt my fault
I agree…. why is Lake Chabot so difficult.
Cause all yaw don’t know how to fish 😂
I fished there the last two weekends limited out on bass in less than 4 hours
Hey Greg. I really appreciate you putting a caption on the video explaining “A rig retrieval” and how to do it. You should do that more in your videos. Would be a great way to teach people some skill. I come to you all the time to learn and pick up new skills. Thanks bud good luck out there.
Forealz right! He should keep doin that. Itll teach newbies like me some techniques.
Thank for the feedback, Eric! For sure. Felt I needed to for this video since I wasn't fishing these two baits (A-Rig and worm) "Traditionally".
@@BillaBong1 bro same here lol
@@GregBlanchardFishing appreciate it man you’re awesome
DAYUUMMM!!! A 19 pounder AND Deadpool?? 2016 was a good year for Ryan Reynolds!!! Thanks Greg!
So Deadpool caught the record bass in the lake 😆 damn yall need superpowers for that lake. Love the vid Greg tough fishing but it's part of the game 💪🏿🎣
Hell yeah I swear everyday I go on RUclips I am hoping you have an uploaded video!! 😆 thanks for the awesome content you always put out for us!
Thank you sir! thanks for tuning in
Like a lot of commenting fisherman, I too fished Lake Chabot from 1966 to 1973. Back then you could rent a 12 ft aluminum boat for a $1.50 a day. We'd targeted rainbow trout, crappie, catfish, carp and largemouth bass. Also, back in those days you were allowed to fish around the marina, that's where most of the fish were at. Thanks for the video though, brought back memories, that's for sure. 😎🎣📹👍
Glad I am not the only one not catching bass there, Bass Cove used to be the ticket for trout back in the day coming in from the golf course🎣👊👍
Greg,
Tough day!! Great job on showing what lake, baits, technique and showing your graph. All of that is helpful regardless of the location.
Thanks again.
Thank you soo much for fishing this lake!! I’m still trying to get my first bass here and love seeing your approach.
Don’t feel bad Greg, I’ve been to Chabot a lot.
I’ve only caught one bass and about six trout in the last 10 years.
Pretty typical of that fishery unless you go every single day.
Probably would’ve had more luck on the Delta.
Good stuff either way!
Keep on fishing!
oh man, the delta probably would've been better and thats not saying much! haha
Chabot has been tough lately. Thanks for sharing!
LETS GO!!!!!!!!! ANOTHER BANGER BY G.B.!!!
Always happy to see a new video drop. Hey man, we all have skunks, especially so early in the season. You threw everything at them. Still looked like a great day on the water with good company. Can’t beat that.
Ryan Reynolds has Blake Lively AND an 19 pound bass? He’s got it too good. 😂
I pitched a worm on a lay-down and caught a 10lb. bass (large north bay, eastern branch) ..that pulled free, however, I did get on the Big Bass wall of fame at Chabot, back in 1978, with an 8 1/2 lbs. bass.
Good way to start a early work morning🤙🏽💯!
I like that you put up skunks, makes my bad days seem a little normal. Thanks!
Chabot can be super brutal man
Fun video, great scenery, overall awesome vid
Some days are just tough. Thanks for sharing.
I’m over here skiing while you’re still fishing😂😂
Comfortable fishing trip 😍
thanks for fishing here Greg. I used to live in this area and came here a lot, so the vid brought back memories.
So sick
Wait a minute Deadpool caught a 19 pounder in 2016? Lol
I like how organized you are, I wish I was more organized with my equipment! Another good video
I do most my fishing in the bay area. I found that dragging a shakeyhead slowly on the bottom works really well.
I’m so jealous. Stuck in the sub freezing Midwest….. Tournaments season starts next month! Whoop whoop!
It’s 3 degrees in New Jersey have had open water in about 3 weeks we just got thick enough to ice fish
Thank you for that caption technique thing. Newbies like me really appreciate and are greatfull. Please add it to all your up comming vidz.🙏
I didn't know Ryan Reynolds was into bass fishing, let alone catching 19lb lake records! 😂
🤣
🎉🎉🎉
Just got home, good timing! Time to relax and live vicariously through you 👍🏽. Have a good weekend sir!!
I can’t imagine a nearly 20lb bass lol. Of course Deadpool got it 😂
Dang man, sucks that you lost your hud first cast.
Final edit: dang the skunk! That’s motivation though to start working on a video I have that I was debating on editing because I got majorly skunked lol.
haha ryan reynolds 😂
The famous lake Chabot… most pressured lake in the Bay Area. I’ve only caught bass, and trout, there late in the evening. Like right before the sun goes down. Other than that, I have no luck any time of the day.
Like if I wanted to get skunked, I would go to lake chabot. Haha.
You forgot the In and Out Greg. 😆 that was brutal
Always appreciate your videos, Greg, but this one got me super excited because Chabot is a home lake. That lake is an emotional roller coaster for me. In the spring it makes me feel like a champ, in the winter it makes me feel like a chump. Your skunk made me feel better about myself. Thanks! ;)
Disappointed in not seeing any fish but we could of least got a shot of a double double. Always fun videos coming from you thanks again Greg.
Caught a trout at Chabot on gulp eggs Monday, . It is a tough lake at times. Full moon probably didn’t help either. Tight lines.
I’m looking for a slimmer style PFD for kayak fishing. How do you like the one you use and where can I get something like that? Thanks.
Good times sir 🤙🏽
Sorry you lost your Huddleston. I like the bait descriptions w how to fish info. Thanks for sharing even the skunk moments. I can definitely relate.
Bringing back lots of memories Greg. I worked on that boat dock for 2 years a loooooong time ago. I personally weighed in several 10 pound bass on the scale there at the boat dock, I had high hopes you'd do good there!
@Double Bogey Bass since you worked their can you answer this for me? Why did that lady ask Greg and his friend if their kayaks had been out of the state and fill out an inspection form before they could launch? I’ve never seen that before, is it something they do in California?
@@hobbylottery5014 It was over 20 years ago that I worked there and we didn't do that back then, but I am sure it was in regards to the Zebra Mussel prevention. That would be my best guess.
@@DoubleBogeyBass oh ok, thanks for responding man!
Like the action box 📦 on how you’re using the lures
Story of my life right there, snagging and breaking off on the first cast. Sometime it's the very first cast I through. I usually just turn back around and go home if that happens 😂
I used to work at the Lake Chabot years ago. During the summer, I drop shot night crawlers around the island and I was catching bunches of them between 10 and 12 inches. I always go there trout trolling and did great at that lake just trolling night crawlers. It's been years tho.
LOVE THIS LAKE. Trout eaters all over the place.
looks like the one time I tried to go fishing there years ago lol
Thanks for mentioning my lake record bass 🎉that lake is tough
I set up a 6-8 ounce torpedo weight on a traditional snap and slide it down the line. Home made lure retriever, I’ve saved dozens of hudds with it
SKUNKED = IN-N-OUT!!!!!
Definitely a tough lake but if the opportunity to catch a monster is there you gotta try! Great video as always man!!!
Thank you sir!
My neighborhood lake. Learned the basics as a kid there.
what if had been raining on your way to the ramp? Do you fail boat inspection?
I was there back in the late 60 -70. what a improvement on the pier an store. Pan fish for dinner. We lived in Hayward and travel by AC transit ( bus) Pick us just down the street from the house and drop us at the lake. My brothers and I would fish all day and spend 2 to 3 bucks on food and bait. The bus trip home 10 cents. wouldn't trade those days with my brothers for anything. What a video thank you Greg Blanchard.
Nice to see Ryan Reynolds holds the lakes bass record🤣
Chabot fishes tough right now, wait til the water warms up a bit and closer to the spawn, then the fun begins. Have most luck with shakyheads, dropshot, and twitching jerkbaits.
I can’t believe Deadpool holds the lake record there. Lol a.k.a.Ryan Reynolds
Lake Chabot is a nice lake, but tough fishing.
Well now.....it has been a while since GB has posted a skunk vid! Thanks for keeping it real brother. Appreciate you!!
I made a DIY lure retriever with strong wire and lead, with a strong line attached to it and you can send it down your line to grab on the lure and literally break the stump or open a hook, pulling with your hand on the strong line
since I've made it, never lost a lure again due to snags (had some fly away due to birds nest tho hahaha), fishing weekly or bi-weekly for the past 10y
It's like a cylinder that slides down the line and past the lure, since it's like 15cm diameter and then I just yank the lure or the snag itself
Super tuff lake. Went there for the first time in September and caught a 2 and a 5 pounder on the swimbait. Went back a month later and couldn’t even get a bite.
Reminds me of today, went with the kayak to a newer place I have only fished a few times, from 8am to 12pm I threw everything at it, flipping jigg, swim jigg, crank bait, top water frog, senko wacky and Texas and not a single bite. Meanwhile my kids are in the dock with some night crawlers cleaning up.
LOL when I first read your video description I thought, wow there are trout that big eating bass?
You have to go to Bass Cove!
Should try a half or quarter senko on these lakes, trout or bass often take them. Thanks for sharing.
Roland would say time to fish a big Shiner with a balloon as a float to catch those BIG Florida Bass. To bad no fishing allowed around the docks.
Thanks for sharing 🍺 🎣
Man tough day !! But better then mine I was freezing my butt off fixing water leaks
Whats up Greg?..You give me that itch to get out on my yak but everything is frozen here in Colorado. If you ever want to make a trip to hit the ice, i have a guess room 👊🏽
Nice! I went here on my birthday with my girl!
Gotta be honest. This made me feel waaay better about my Chabot skunk. It’s not just me! Ahaha
I've gotten skunked the past few times I've been out. It's good to see even Greg get skunked. I can't figure them out right now.
Gotta try out nagasawa park in fountain grove ca. it’s a kayak and small boat lake with very limited bank fishing
Let’s go!
The skunk happens to all of us better luck next time Greg!
Don't feel too bad about the skunk. I would take a skunk on open water right now over just about anything. Iced out & feels like 5°. Thanks for videos!
Lake chabot is where I started fishing it’s hard too fish it but when the fish are hot they are biting specially out in raccoon point for crappie and cat fish
Hey Greg, another great video as always. I do have a question about your Case Cruiser box. Do you know what model it is by chance ?
i have a 7 inch thunderhawk swimbait in rainbow trout..the place i catch stocker trout at..you can see 5 lbers chasing the trout the days its planted so some day ima go with the swimbait and see if i can nail a 5lber while guys are catching trout lol
Those notes on the bottom of the screen are dope
Nothing quite like the aroma of Pepe La Pew……….. nice day on the water though. With friends. That’s magic!
Hi Greg, what is the top right corner of your graph? I don’t recognize that screen
I fished Chabot a few times off a yak. Skunked every time. I've seen big bass caught there, but it seems like it takes a specific code to crack. You either famine or feast there
Love the videos, especially waiting for the ice to melt in the Pacific Northwest. Can you do a short video on that knot you use. Your to fast tying it in the videos. Grew up in the Modesto and lived in Napa and have fished most of the lakes you go to so a blast watching you fish them. The Delta is a Disneyland of fishing, at least for me. Variety in one place. Keep up the videos.
Its a Jimmy Houston knot. Just look it up on you tube and Jimmy explains it. It's super easy and a very strong knot. Hope this helps you.
That lake is super difficult. Give Quarry Lakes a try.
May I suggest Sierra 1/2 oz. spoons? For a situation like this, when the usual stuff in your kayak's kit isn't working? Let them sink, then do an irregular retrieve. You might be surprised! (and these spoons are very economical, too.)
Tip for your videos brotha: add captions when ur crew is talking so we know what they’re saying! It puts the viewer into the convo w all of you when it’s hard to hear them on the GoPro . Love ur channel man keep killing it!! #YayAreaaaa
Fun day
What was the Tail spin you were using? Ever catch anything on it?
I would love to see a video for Contra Loma Regional Park in Antioch CA... I was out there today and I could look in the water and ACTUALLY SEE 2 lb. bass dang near in arms distance. Hahahaha. I'm going back tomorrow. A guy next to me caught an 8 lb. bass that he released back. It was a cool day.
Like #315! Thought but fun day at least u we’re out fishing
You know it's slow fishing when Greg has the time to edit his jump cuts to the song beat.
When the bite is tough on a lake that just stocked a bunch of trout I normally switch to sierra slammers on a small underspin. Shad color. I will normally land a bass or two but if not worse case you will land some trout. 🤷🏻♂️ good video Greg.
How u throw hudds and other nice baits and no plug knocker?
I tossed a river2sea s waver 200 and got a bird nest and is snapped right off! To date that is my most expensive lure I’ve lost lol
I’m sorry to keep asking but I have looked everywhere and I can’t find a cart thath looks as heavy duty as the one you use in your garage- any clue where you got that?
Greg, I really enjoy your videos. I watch them all. You are the reason I got into Kayak fishing. I was wondering if you could discuss what cold weather gear you wear? Are they waders? Please tell us what boots do you wear?.
Keep up the great videos....
Looks like Ryan Reynolds has the record bass. There's no shame in losing to Deadpool!
Yall have some cool fisheries in California
What do you use to hold up your rods in the garage?
Welcome to lake chabot 😂. Where’s the in n out?!
Greg, how do you get your Flicker Shads to track straight? Every one I have ever thrown pulls super bad to one side.
Adjust them
