One of the best thing about Ibanez is that they always seems to pay attention to what people want and what costumers are asking for.
Its one of the few big companies doing that. And usually they charge their items a fair price.
You might not like this amp but ibanez is, indeed, a really smart and player-friendly company.
Just picked this up yesterday, and was having trouble finding a good gain-y setting.
I was cranking the level up, but now I see that the best tones are with a dialed back level. Thanks Tone King!
This amp is pretty much perfect for a blues player on the local club circuit. Compact, portable, versatile, and plenty powerful for smaller venues. It also saves the player the added expense of having to buy an overdrive pedal. One of these with a Valve Jr 1x12 cab is a perfect inexpensive small club rig.
That actually sounded pretty good. Good audio quality in your video. Thank you for sharing this
what an amazing tone
Great tone, green lighting on white tolex... very classy! Love the Sennheiser BTW! Rock on!
Very nice! I was SO eager about a review for this!! And thanks ttk for using the Music Man! Something a lil more "old school" to go with the amp. Good choice!!
@Schpudd this switches between 5 and 15 watts, so you can really get the tubes rollin, and it has built in overdrive so you can do it at low volumes anyways
current models of this head have an FX loop. AAA+ product just got one love it.
i have this amp. it is is one bad boy! GREAT DEMO!
If anyone is seriously considering an amp like this, then you need to check out the Egnater tweaker 15, 40, or 88. Awesome amps, and so much more tone tweaking abilities. The Tweaker 15 head is only $399, and it'll go from jangle clean to brutal distortion and everywhere in between.
The lighting was actually nice in this video :)
you keep going tone king! despite the haters... the king isn't dead.
I find this trend of micro tube amps fascinating, with just abALL GLORY TO THE TONE KING.
Does it have a built-in noise gate? The volume seemed to be fluctuating around 7:30...or was that just his attack that was fluctuating?
Otherwise I loved the sound. Thanks for posting the demo, man.
I NEVER HEARD ONE OF THESE SO IM EXCITED TO SEE HOW IT SOUNDS
@maufonseca17 the built in TS pedal in this amp sounds perfect to me. You can't get the real sound from it just by this video. because youtube changes sound quality. I would say you could use the OD on here and have a delay pedal running through the FX loop so it wont run infront of the OD.
I've got one as my practice amp which I use with a les paul with p90s and it sounds killer
Hey quick question how come your amp doesn’t have a effects loop? I thought they all came with one
amp sounds purdy good. are a lot of people selling these? i had no idea ibanez came out with a new amp until i saw the new review. and i've heard good things from those axis guitars. sounds like they are pretty good.
@fieroturbo People normally do just that with the Sennheiser e609 mic, they just dangle it infront of the amp by the cable. There's really not much point in setting up a mic stand for it.
I'd really like to hear the volume on the amp CRANKED...no boost, no tube screamer. I just want to know if you can get that "about to explode" sound of of the tube amp part of the amp. All in all though, great review, TTK. How about a shootout with the JCA20H?
I wish companies would stop neglecting the middle control in the EQ. It is probably the most important of the three!
@IHoawwakeyes sort of, but not quite. I'm talking like a fender champ on 12 kind of power tube saturation. 6V6's driven to the limit is an aquired taste, but I love it. I just want to see if this head can pull that off or not.
Nice amp. However, what caught my eye more was the guitar you chose to use. That's sweet! Is it new too? I don't remember you demo-ing that guitar. Maybe you do a demo on that next? All in all a good demo and keep em coming! \m/
Effects loop? Or does the ts circuit prevent that
@awesomejohnnet Well tone king is as the name says the tone king the man is looking for tone, we dont come here to watch the videos and see his playing is for demos, his opinion and the tone of the stuff he shows, most people dont understand that
@OhldSchool this amp has brighter sound - very bright highs like fender Champ. i like my fender sound bright and spanky. this amp doen't deliver nice base sound (I tried different cabs). so if you play a les paul you will hear bright highs and muddy lows. I think if you plug a SG may sound good because SG has less mid and low than LP. BTW if you get this amp, please change tubes. I did with Tung-sol tubes and I love it.
So with out further adieu, going to demo, demo the amp, okay ready... ok, without furth adieu... Ok... ready.... Ok..... here's the guitar... ok.... here we go, boys and girls... ok... ready... ok.... ok....
hahah... Just messin! Thanks for the demo vid. I might have to get one of these little fellas. I have a Keely Mod'd TS-9 and I love it!
def. getting one. BTW, nice 5150 in the back
@immatting yeah but this amp has a lot to talk about with the back panel and what not. I think it was a good review
i am going for this amp (tsa 15h) and i play fusion, which is a mix of jazz and rock, so i would recommend this amd.
@alapunk13 nope not at all, try the line six spider half stack thats around 600. its not a tube but its a pretty good amp
I like this guy - he reminds me of Doug Heffernan (KoQ). Big thumbs up from me :)
TTK,
Could you do an addendum to the review? You didn't crank the overdrive without the TS circuit. Would like to hear the unaltered overdrive sound.
Thanks
man i love this amp!!!! great video!!!!!
I love this amp! We pushed 6 12's (2 different cabs, Kustom half stack and Orange 2x12) with this little devil and it rocked!
HAHAHA... Now everyone has to step it up fo sho!
i've got one goin through an old 4x12 with jensen [could be jenson not sure] speakers and its fantastic... i like the 15w setting more than the 5w tho cause the little thing seems to love volume :]
@tanreu Well, you could always put a distortion pedal in front of the amp...That way you get a clean channel, a TS overdrive and, depending on the distortion pedal one or two distortion channels. I was looking for a low wattage tube amp that can deliver up to 15 watts. I was very interested in an ENGL Gigmaster but the TSA15H plus matching cabinet and footswitch combined are cheaper than the ENGL head alone. Since I have an old Blackstar HT dual peal lying around, I might give the TSA a try.
TK, how loud is this amp? If it is unmiked, will it stand up to a (reasonable) drummer or will it be overwhelmed? Thanks
Nice amp. I just picked one up. Nice Blues Shuffle.
@EnvyInc I agree, this sounds wonderful for blues.
good but can a metal guy buy it and make it sound right for that style?? cuz i don't hear a lot of low end punch :D and btw are you going to have it modified soon?
I'm going to go with Simon Bradley's approach to amp demoing: play simple stuff, and a variety of stuff, to show what exactly the amp can do. That means that playing fast stuff isn't that great for demoing gear, although, a little bit is nice.
Interesting amp. I wonder how it sounds cranked to 10 without the tube screamer circuit.
Great demo!!! But, I got arequest for ya TTK, could ya' make another demo of this amp, but this time crank the volume on the clean all the way to tube break-up and then over that add the tube screamer to push the tubes even further!!!! Thanks dude!!!
From a note Official Ibanez Guitars USA wrote me: The TS circuit in the TSA15H is the same as in the original TS808 and features the JRC4558D IC.
in your opinion, is this loud enough for a smaller venue like a jazz club or a restaurant
sounds nice, but how loud is it? 15 watts seems a bit on the low side
If I was a blues player, I'd be all over this amp, no doubt about it. But my stuff tends more to the extreme side of heavy & weird LOL
nice guitar! is that a new one? I've not seen it before...
How many drummers does it take to change a light bulb?
11
One to change the light bulb and the other 10 to have a seminar as to "how Dave Weckl would have done it"
@VascoA7X this amp also has 5w ... read some articles in the web man but 5w is cool for an appartment
ANother great TK Vid review. Was it me or were the cleans not loud in volume or was that you were strumming lighter than usual? LOL
@VascoA7X nono dude the head has 2 modes: a pentode and triode which means either 5 or 15 wats
@VascoA7X it's not going to be that much louder than an HT-5. To make an amp twice as loud takes TEN TIMES the watts. so a 50 watt amp is only twice as loud as a 5 watt amp.
and the HT-5 is loud with a 2x12, too loud for an apartment if you turn it up, but it sounds good quiet too. I own one.
@epitaph664 well, the champ rules, but I do want a wee bit more wattage to be able to jam with light drums...hopefully a retailer will actually stock this thing so we cal all have a go at it!
nice clean nice boost nice amp
Hey Tone King, I'm trying to choose between this amp and the Bugera V22. I mostly play jazz, funk, and classic rock. Which of the two do you think would be the better choice?
demo begins at 3:48
thumbs so every1 can see
This amp sounds awesome. How loud is it? Will it be louder than my peavey valveking 212? How big of a gig could I use this for?
What pickups do you have in that guitar? Sounds like a great amount of low end...
@VascoA7X:
..this head is 15 watts pentode, 5 watts triode.
asking for this and a an acoustic bass cab for a graduation present. how well do you think this thing would play with a big muff and the clean signal?
I really like that amp (and cab)
@Vermont12685 I hear ya. C'mon that #1 thing to check for any guitarist. That never ceases to amaze me that dudes won't tune their guitar.
hi, tone king! i hope this does not offend you as i am about to criticise a bit. not that i don't like the reviews or anything.however, i feel that the mic placement is not doing many of your demos justice. i know that you want to let people hear the true tone in your videos. however, i feel that if you adjust the mic placement slightly off-axis, it may allow users to have a hear of what it's like in a room situation with no mics and only their ears. hope you could respond wif ur thoughts.thx
All of those amps, but you can't afford a stand to hold the mic?
lol... just messin' with ya! Great review! I think I need to go buy this beast!
Hi TK.
Is this amp very loud?
is it a really METAL amp?
you didn't crank it all the way, because?
and can you play it with 4x12?
You need some one who could really play good blues riffs and rock riffs and real rhythms to demo it dude....but you have a really good speaking voice....
did the line6 wireless contest end yet?
What is so difficult about including an FX loop? $20 in parts and labor maybe? Makes the amp 1000x more versatile. Bummer.
I wonder how will this Amp sound if you use OD infront of it?
Why hasn't anyone demoed this amp with a high end tele, strat, Suhr, or Anderson.
Is it possible to plug a 2×12(close back cab, 16 ohms) & 2×12(open back cab, 16 ohms)at the same time on that head?
I was going to get the VOX AC4TV Half Stack...But this amp keeps pulling me back and whispering in my ear. Would you say that the versatility in this one (over the ac4tv) is worth the price difference?
Hey toneking,
Can you please give me a list of amps this size affordable, tubes, low wattage and a nice clean.
Thanks in advance.
@Crashoverall hey, gibson listens to player feedback (every few years lol) and they only charge $3000! haha. ibanez probably has the best value and playability for the the price.
if you have a humbucker guitar like les paul. this amp is not that great. the tube screamer won't do the justice here. But if you have a single coil equiped guitar like stratocaster, this is the amp for you. tube scramer and booster on and you will get very tasty clean spanking sparkling tone. I am happy with it.
@lmsjr ha cool stuff, i've never tried it myself but from what i've heard people generally think it's horrible, definetly an aquired taste
@rictorblackbus exactly what i want to see. I don't know which to buy!!!
I know im not the Tone King, but from everything that i've read up on the two amps you just mentioned, they're both great amps for their price range, but based on what i've both read and heard of them, the Ibanez TSA15 would probably fit the bill better. I've read dozens of reviews and seen multiple review vids and statistics on both amps, and have also seen alot of reliability issues with Bugera, (Nothing against them, they DO make some great amps) but that may be all talk and skepticism. \m/
@lmsjr exuse me tone king but thiis mite be a personal qu. but what the world do u do for a living cuz what i saw for you home is verry nice.
Can you demo the new Peavey 6534+?
Tone King can I ask if you played most of this demo with the Neck Pickup?? It sounded horribly muddy until you zoomed out with the camera then it sounded pretty good!! When demoing Amps you should probably never start on the Neck Pickup or at least not stay on it for over half of the demo. The amp sounds horrible at first muddy and absolutely no definition at all. Just saying most guitar play Rock and Metal hardly use the Neck Pickup unless it's super clean and Chimmy Or high gain soloing. JUST MY OPINION OF COURSE!!!!
Im just bought the amp myself. As i can hear in your demo aswell, my amp makes this irritating little thing. As i activate the tube screamer, it somehow sounds like the distorted signal is routed parallell with the clean sound, rendering this "klonky" sound "behind" the driven sigal... this is heard especially as i hit the strings hard with my Telecaster. It is to be heard at 6.00 minutes into your demo video aswell... Anyone know what this is, and more importantly, how to fix it?
woo guiness shirt, have you got some irish blood or you just wearing it for fun?
could this amp play over a drummer and be good for a gig (non mic-ed)?
is this thing loud enough to gig with?
Skip to 3:45 if you want to actually hear it
@joeoj12321 yes it would be fine, i have the epiphone valve junior and i can hear it fine with my band, bassist has a 75 watt bass amd and i can hear it loud and clear
very nice and cheap amp... great for the price range... I would like to test one more than anything... tube screamer is devine invention... just as THE TONE KING is the divine reviewer! (\m/) (\m/)
Note: The guy talks about pretty much nothing for 3:30 so if you already know that the amp has tone and volume controls, just skip to the demo.
@RNRDOLL I know all this but how does it take it? Good, bad? thats why I'm asking TTK..
@RasputinsFate Yeah, I dont know what it is, but even when I own or have tried amps that TTK demo's, they always end up sounding really average! BTW, Tone King, man u have some serious gear - hope u have insurance!
i have the amp and ironicly i like the clean better than the overdrive
Seventy/80 a hot speaker your glad it's in there.FART.
@rictorblackbus i just mic mine up, works great
he really can do better than the rest 99% of the guitar players
anyone know what the current price for this stack is? i was looking into it because i heard that it is affordable.
