  • Do you know WHEN to harvest your onions? Do you know HOW to HARVEST your onions? Do you know how to DRY and STORE your onions? We answer these questions and more as we harvest and prepare our onions for drying and storage.
We start at our raised bed where we planted our onion sets in late January. If you would like to see how we planted them, this link will take you to that video: • Homemade tool for quic... We start with a little info on planting and storing then proceed to pull the onions. There is also some information about the onion flowers. We plan to save the seeds and start them for next year.
After harvesting the onions, we move to our onion drying area. Your onions must be dried before storing them or they won’t last as long. We will explain our setup and how we use it. At the end, there are tips for storing your onions.
Growing onions is easy and can be grown in a small space. The raised bed we grew our Texas Sweet Onions in is 8’ X 16’. You can grow in a much smaller or larger garden.

    I always enjoy your videos!
    Thank you!
When you braid them, can you video that?
I’m waiting for September for my ordered garlic to show up.
After watching your video on garlic, I decided to give planting some another shot!
    Next year?
I want to try regular onions!
My “regular garden hasn’t don’t too badly this year.
I’ll be checking out you other channel too…
    Thanks again!

Great video! Those are some really nice big ones, smart idea that I want to remember to remove the soil around the bulb when it grows. Really cool!
So, you only get one onion per onion planted? You just grow them to be bigger?
This means you need to purchase new small onions every time you want to make more? If I understand correctly, you're only moving the growing part from a producer to your own garden? And of course skipping the supermarket and such.
And if you want to continue on and be self producing, you go with the seeds that you talked about ealier in the video? If that works of course.
What I'm trying to understand is that, with onions you only get what you planted, while with potatoes you get multiple from each potato you plant?
Again, I'm very new to all this growing stuff, trying to learn as much as possible and your channel along with some others are a great source of knowledge.

Yes you get one onion per plant BUT the onion sets are very small. Most are smaller than a standard pencil. If you watch my video about planting onions ruclips.net/video/j5i4tZp8Z6E/видео.html at about the 6 minute mark you will see how small the onion plants are. You can purchase them at most places that sell garden plants but I got mine at Dixon Dale Farms online.

Good luck with your garden and have a great day.
