- ■ ARGENTINA, BUENOS AIRES: I didn't pay much attention to this World Cup, but since Italy whom I normally support didn't even qualify, I decided to keep my fingers crossed for Portugal and Argentina, hoping they'd meet in a final that'd feature the two all time greats, Ronaldo vs. Messi in the final.
Sadly Portugal didn't make it past the quarter final, but once Argentina did after beating Netherlands, it became increasingly clear to me that this was their year and they were going to win. I've always wanted to visit Argentina as it's famous for the River Plate vs. Boca rivalry, quality steaks and awesome wine. It's also said to be quite different from other countries in latin America and somewhat of an Italy clone.
Two days before the world cup final Simon Wilson rang me and asked if I wanted to join. 12 hours later we were on the plane from Amsterdam to Buenos Aires....

As an Indian, watching this after the Cricket WC finals, it feels so fulfilling and sad at the same time. I can relate how the argentinians enjoyed their win and are crazy about football the same way Indians are about cricket. Honestly don't know much about Argentina but anywhere else there would been violent and these people seemed so civilized and behaved..congratz to Argentina..!!!
we had some isolated incidents, but considering that they where 5 million of people at the same time in the city, i guess it was expected haha

I agree with Harald. I am Argentinian and people here always treats very well, to anyone who come to visit us, specially in a such important ocassion like this one. I met people from lots of countries, travelling around Argentina and all of them are very happy here, they really enjoy their trips, and most of them usually wants to return.
Harald, there's a certain number of Argentine people who believe that climbing up bus stations, buildings and using fireworks are things of an uncivilized country. I won't dig too much into politics but that's probably what the comment meant. Most Argentine love their passion and wickedness when the National team wins, it's a little minority which believes the contrary. If you had spent time in important areas besides the city center, such as San Justo, Ramos Mejía, Caballito, San Telmo you'd see what I mean, Argentine politics play hard in our everyday life, everyone has something to say about the way events or celebrations should be done, and these comments are often aligned with political views.
As an Englishman to be honest I wanted Argentina to win.

I was at that same park watching the final with the people ha ha ha! Greatest World Cup Final EVER! I'm a digital nomad currently residing in Buenos Aires who just happened to be at the right place at the right time. This was a day that I will never forget!
