The Iron Horse Acquisition: Cycling Chennai's Markets 🇮🇳

- ■ INDIA, CHENNAI: Planing on surveying the lands of Chennai extensively in a single day I decided Iw as in the market for a bicycle. But not just any bicycle! The more rusty, ancient and archaic the better. A couple of days ago I ran into just such a cycle and tried to buy it. The owner refused to sell, possibly because he didn't understand I was being serious or as I wanted to complete the purchase using Dollars.
Buying a used bicycle in Chennai was going to be an uphill struggle I realized. On three more occasions I offered $100 for used bicycles worth maximum $5. Each time the owner laughed and said no!
Dejected, sitting in a rickshaw on my way to the hotel and on the verge or giving up my dreams of cycling around Chennai... a stroke of lucks ent from heaven.
I spotted a bicycle repair shop out the window. I saw the street name in Google maps and decided that this street and possibly shop would be my last chance at acquiring one....

He could have bought 4 bicycle with that money lol 😂
@@HaraldBaldr next he is gonna open british empire at Europe
I want Harald to conquer, and run the states now. It would be a dream.
The best thing about that kid that helped with the bike is he never asked for money. Even at the end you said bye and he did not bug you. And was really happy you gave him the money in the end.
Anyone knows how much Harld gave to that kid?
@@Water02looked like a crispy us 100. Good man Harald
@@jabane 🙌
Yep it was definitely a benji
just wanna let you know that, that kid asked money from that guy before Harald give him the money , i am tamil and i live in Norway .
The kid's self respect is commendable. He is a great salesman and didnt ask money after the deal.
I was like aww is he really not gonna give him a tip then he did xd, that's why i love him
@slayersboxer915 which really is the right thing to do atp....even of it's simply a small appreciation!
I speak Tamil, the local language and the kid asked the guy who sold the bike for his share of the deal on camera
@@scottandrouse3971 I knew that kid was going to get a finder fee . Why else would he take him to him. His inexperience was he didn’t know Harald would gift him also.
At 1:20:00 absolutely handled like a pro. The way you went back, didn't get angry, stood your ground and told him he was very unfriendly. Glad you left it in, a quick masterclass.
Plus i imagine he didn't want the wrath of a true Viking!
💯
Haha still people call him fake German or waanabe Canadian
I think it definitely scared him and caught him off guard a bit to have a true northman actually stop and call him out in his own hood for that childish behavior. 💯
He should try this in south central LA
@Dumbumula111 🤣 I had similar thoughts. If he happened to be in another country in a different hood it would have been a way worse situation. In south central though they ain't gonna just slap the back of his head while you walk by and theres a high chance there will be multiple all with heaters lol. He probably wouldn't go into those hoods alone in the first place so I think when that guy slapped him it was quite the surprise. 🤣
The tea vendor at 1:17:10 was not actually giving bad vibes, he was actually very embarassed and was saying to the kid "why did u bring him to my shop" (meaning - could have taken you to a much nicer shop rather than the one in the slum)
The boy did a great job helping/filming! You are so generous Harald.
He was really cool 🇮🇳

He spoke great English. He’ll be able to figure out the exchange rate
I never judge anyone but your explanations about the bargains and the Indian mentality is actually eye opening and very helpful for context. Thank you for being so aware and informative while also being very entertaining at the same time. Feels like traveling the world with you ❤

I'd rather not go to jail or get stabbed in the streets of a third world country. Better to keep walking and let it go. This is coming from someone who's had a temper most their life.
"Tiger cat, strong name. Not Salad." That interaction made me bust out laughing. Never stop with the amazing conversations you have Harald. Thanks for the video!
Thank you very much Harald for this video. It truly shows that this was not an easy video to make. Pushing that awful bike around, which at times looked more of a hinderance than help. Your stamina through the day was good but obviously you were drained towards the end.
Again, thank you for sharing such an insight in to the real India. Your videos are very much appreciated. ❤
'real india', what is real? Poverty or the countless rich history, culture and the many kingdoms and present wealth of India?
If we don’t stop him, he will buy all the bicycles in Chennai.
Me and my Northmen berserkers plan on acquiring a whole fleet of bicycles in Chennai 😎

So fun! Glad you addressed how different people in different parts of the world might interpret these experiences in unique ways. Amazing content as always, please keep it up!!
This is what makes you unique in making the videos and makes it enjoyable to watch it at the same time. You gotta love the bluntness, the joking around. Not always watching what your are about to say but just say what's on your mind. It's stuff like this you appreciate it more. Because there is no hidden agenda, your not pushing any topic on anyone. It's just a Mr. Harald being out there and taking us with him. Kudo's to you! Like the majority of your subscribers or followers, pay whatever you like, say whatever you like just don't stop being you. Keep them videos comming!
This is quite possibly going to be up there with the Zanzibar ride, if not better. From progressive Lance dodging King Feemer, to the Knights of Rati Devi, to Phuc Flair, porking Coppercab's sister, hunting hogs, and trekking the himalayas while staying in touch with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi's best friend; you never stop excelling, Heraldo. Not to mention all the kindness you have showed to Sunil and his foundation. You're the goat at the top of the fireball peak of RUclips.
Stay strong, brother. Seeing your videos pop up after a long day is always welcome viewing.

The drink that you had at 14:40 minutes from the lady is made from Buttermilk , rice and raagi (finger millet). It helps you keep cool during summers and also fills your stomach and makes you drowsy. It's a healthy drink 🙂.

Man that random guy who punched @harold ruined it for me. I am glad you turned around and confronted him. Well handled. Never again will he try to pull that off again.
I haven't got that far and will see why someone is punching. Some people are in a stupid place in life we can only wish them healing.
@@UnPluggingThePlayer thanks for giving him the benefit of doubt. Unfortunately it’s a common trend to do stupid things like this to boast about it later. Similar things happen when two people on a bike will ride by slapping random people walking/standing on street. Just bad childish behavior carried on to adulthood among those who have no responsibility in life.

Harold I’m absolutely LOVING this India series. You have a unique gift of making the most chaotic places seem not so scary. This is what travel vlogs should strive to be. Showing the real side of life in these places, not always polished or beautiful, but real. Thank you so much for all that you’ve given us over the years, it’s much appreciated!!
Amazing video! Loved every minute of it except at the end when I saw that look in your face. I suffered brutal heatstroke and I had that same exact look and feel.
