    Peak design cuff and clutch are very recommendable if you're tired of a neck strap (clutch has the better support for a heavier camera)! Been using them for a couple of years, really comfortable in my opinion :)

    My first thought on grabbing/hand below was a resounding "NO!" But you make a good point on being able to tuck in that elbow. Stability is a good thing, especially at low light and/or lower shutter speeds. As far as bumping into others... I just glare at them if they come near me.😅
    I love my R5!

    • @stalman

      The first time someone suggested it to me was a in a super aggressive RUclips comment, so I ignored them 😂 but turns out its a useful way to shoot

    • @getdavo1
      @getdavo1 2 года назад

      I shoot concerts a lot in crowds and I shoot grip up. If it's too crowded around me at a particular moment I bring my elbow in close. My wrist is at more of an angle and I switch my shutter finger to my middle finger which is way more comfy elbow in.

    The problem with the Peak Design strap is that it can activate the touch screen of the R5 And R6 which is annoying cause sometimes it moves the focal point or activates something on the screen menu when using it wrapped around a hand.I suggest to just buy the set that can attach to the original canon strap.

    • @stalman
      @stalman  2 года назад +2

      Really? I'll have to test that out, I've never noticed it happen but good to be aware of. I agree that it's the clips that are more useful than their specific strap

    Gonna try that af joystick setting, I’ve been using face detection mostly and when that fails switching to center group af. I have however been using the cf b card as my main and Sd as backup because the upload speeds to my computer are the fastest I’ve ever seen, my only complaint there is the card and card reader so get quite hot.

    • @adventure9606

      Yes, when the autofocus is having trouble I click the joystick and the focus point instantly goes to the center of the screen and I can then put the point on what I want to focus on, works perfectly for people and animals.

    Since switching to heif it seems computer systems still don't have software updates to view them as easily as jpeg. Any tips on viewing and processing the heif files and possibly converting them to jpeg?

    • @chunmanf
      @chunmanf Год назад

      Yeah my heif images look fine on camera but a couple stops darker than my jpegs when importing to my Mac. If I shoot either I wanna be able to use the images straight out of camera and can’t really do that with the heif for now. Would be curious to know Tyler’s heif workflow…

    Much appreciate these great tips, especially coming from a former 5D user. Could I ask a quick question re your 24-70mm f/2.8? You mention that you continue with it, despite it being not quite as sharp as the similar RF version. I have also heard other pros say that the RF is better, but not by much. Here's the Q: I have the Canon 24-70 mm f/4 L. I am considering whether to upgrade to the f/2.8. I like the lighter weight of the f/4, but if I knew I could see a significant difference in image quality, I carry that extra weight. I do love good image quality. I shoot flowers and landscape a lot, and edit on a good, calibrated monitor. I have a 5D4 and may get an R5. Have you had occasion to use the 24-70mm f/4? Do you have an opinion on this? I plan also to go to the camera store, take a bouquet with me, and using an f/2.8, shoot a couple of dozen shots of it at various apertures, and a few out the door of the shop also, and do exactly the same shots with my f/4, and study the results at home. Thanks for any insight you may be able to offer!

    The Canon R5 is an amazing camera. I'd say it's my dream camera at this point. I've bought Sony A7IV a few months back. It does a great job and is very portable with the Sigma 28-70 lens. But when I saw images that someone took of our Halloween party with the Canon was blown away. How heavy is the R5 with the 24-70 lens? That's the combo I'd get. Also, do you have any experience shooting with the Sony. I know that's 33 vs 45 megapixels comparison. A little unfair but do you think that spending about double the money on the Canon is worth it?

  • @unknownKnownunknowns
    @unknownKnownunknowns 2 года назад +2

    @tylerstalman. Tyler. Thank you for this. Now that you have had time w/ both R5 and R6 and the series of firmware updates, is the R5 today worth the extra $1200 for higher IQ and deeper Video capabilities?

    • @stalman
      @stalman  2 года назад +2

      For me it’s worth it but depends what you do. If you’re work doesn’t require the extra megapixels and 4K options, the R6 could get most of it done

      Another reason some argue for the R6 is it supposedly doesn't have the overheating issues, which is part of what swayed me. But multiples times now when I'm recording with my 2 R6s (same settings and all) one consistently shuts down from overheating but the other doesn't. It's the most bizarre thing. So if you think that and R6 won't overheat, don't bank on that.

    • @pickleydoo
      @pickleydoo 2 года назад

      @@allisonfreed I rented a R6 when I was down a body and was shocked that it would overheat on me! It isn’t like the R5 where I was able to switch modes to stop the overheating.

    Couldn't imagine having an issue with a SD card and having to rely on a backup of a medium JPEG over a second RAW file. May be usable for some things, definitely not anything with darks & brights though.

    thanks for the tips , but i have question regarding jpeg IQ , i find the 5D mark 4 jpegs having better details than the R5 ( using the same L lens with the R5 using adaptor ), BUT RAW looks better in R5 . . . ( i shooot both RAW+jpeg at the same time ) . . . for client work YES i use RAW but for everyday use i find the r5 worse than the 5D4 . . any settings recommendation ? many thanks

    I have always been opposed to the "Grip Down" method for vertical shooting. Your hand does not fit the camera that way. Holding the camera horizontally your fingers, thumb, and palm fall right into place. Your finger is on the shutter button and your thumb is resting in its grippy trough just waiting to press any of the buttons surrounding it or either of the dials. Rotate the grip up to vertical and NOTHING changes. Perfect hand/finger/thumb placement remain and you are securely holding your baby.
    Do the same but rotate the grip down and you have to completely reposition your grip, Your hand no longer fits the camera and you are really only holding it wellish between your thumb and 2 fingers on that hand and you HAVE to use your other hand for support to do the rotation. Going grip up you can go horizontal to vertical instantly one-handed.
