True. That is a competition they did not have in the past. I'm not to interested in printing myself. I'm probably closer to sculpting my own but I understand that for many people printing is a strong alternative.
What would make me buy miniatures for The Old World? I do have a big 4th edition dwarves army, but I won't be playing The Old World, and GW won't get a single cent from me. 😄 There are many other game systems that are easier to learn, faster to play and don't require the players to spend tons of mony on new rulebooks, army books and models every couple of years, because units that were crappy in the previous edition are suddenly the best choice in the new edition. The Old World? Thank you, but no thank you.
Fair points indeed. It might sound wierd but actually playing the game is not a major goal of mine. My main game is Ymborg and that will not likely change. The Old World is more about painting the army I never had when I was younger so it will almost exclusively be GW miniatures. Thanks to GWs marketing in the 90s they will now get some money from me... Actually playing the game will be a bit of a risk. What if it is really booring 😆
I’m loving the made to order items that GW has selected so far. Admittedly some of them probably should have been the regular release items in my opinion such at the stone trolls over the common trolls. I’m looking forward to the dwarfs coming out next and seeing exactly what will be offered for MTO outside of I suppose the imperial dwarf prince and retinue…of which I might pick up the command group as I only have the champion and standard bearer plus lots of troopers not the prince or musician. I think the alternate armies for dwarfs will be a slayers force and something more mobile like a rangers army I enjoy the aesthetics of nearly all the armies but I haven’t got big collections of everything. I’m possibly inclined to jump on the bandwagon as each is released but that would be tempered each time by price and only really cherry picking the stuff that really appeals to me
I think that you are totally right about the stone trolls beeing quite an essential part of the greenskin army and I was surprised that they only were made to order :( After watching my own video I've decided that I can pick up one mto for each army without having any specific plan for them :)
@@honestminis9530 I think that is a sound decision. One or two items from MTO each time would be fine even without specific plans to use them yet. At the level they are coming out you could easily keep up with painting them too
Flagellants are still sold under the AoS Free Cities line, thats propably why they aren't in any of the promo material for the Empire. Eitherway, they're still available. Bizarrely, the Empire Engineer no longer has access to mount options at all, so for now I'm not gonna get my hopes up for the mechanical steed to make a return. Maybe in the Arcane Journal as part of a Nuln themed army - but for now its a strange omission, it certainly sucks for people who still got that mini and can't play it for now - I guess you could proxy it as a Captain with handgun and/or brace of pistols. Eitherway, I don't think any of the other main armies suffered a cut like that. Treekin. A Treeman is a spirit who is bound to a living tree, a Treekin is a spirit animating dead wood. High Elves are an interessting case; the promo-material heavily features the Lothern Seaguard, Swordmasters and Reavers from the 8th editon 'Isles of Blood' starter set. What makes this noteworthy is that those minis share their sprue with the Skaven part of the box. In a first for the Old World, I think GW is going to remaster the plastic molds for those minis, so that they can release them seperately from the obv discontinued rats. I do find it strange that they feature the Stone Trolls in their promo pictures. I think GW's philosophy is that everything that you see advertised in the core books is stuff that is actually available. But Stone Trolls were Made-to-Order. I wonder if they originally were ment to come back for good. I expect GW is going to take inspiration from the Total War games when it comes to Chaos and the Arcane Journal is going to feature Norsca - an army with limited or no access to Chaos Warriors, with a heavier focus on Marauders and war beasts. I figure the second list is going to opposite direction, something like an exalted war host with access to daemons, daemonic cavalry, and war shrines. Beastmen are indeed not featured in the book. My theory is that they were a last minute addition to the game as GW couldn't decide whether to leave them with AoS or not.
You seem to be way more on top of this than me :) Thank you for the treekin clarification. If i can't buy the engineer I will kitbash it an run it as you describe! The high elves sounds like a weird thing. It does not sound GW (or any company in general) to suggest a demand for something that gives a workload without any wow factor..
About the stone trolls I find it very surprising that they were only mto. In my view they are an essential part of the greenskins. Much more than for example the battle pilgrims for Bretonnia.
For chaos I believe you more than me I had a hunch that the four gods would be a bit lame as something for the arcane journal. I tried to find another cut but as I basically know no chaos lore it was hard and I needed to get to the point of the video 😆
For High Elves, the Handmaiden of the Everqueen, Maidenguard, Sea Guard, Alarielle. For Tomb Kings I'd like to see Khalida made to order, she's cool. For Bretonnia, I'd like to see the metal Tits McGee on Unicorn come back since she actually has female features unlike the current resin version's new sculpt. That's about it though; got most of what I want for my factions and I don't 'really' need to make blocks of 30 spearmen etc...
@@honestminis9530 The Lothern Sea Guard are basically a hybrid unit of Spearmen/Archers who frequently protect shipping around the port of Lothern. They also crew the Sky Cutters which are.... kinda silly if you ask me.
@@honestminis9530 Yeah, they came out when I stopped paying attention to the new releases, just like the Phoenixes. I kinda want one of each Phoenix but I dunno if I have space for them in the display since I already have 3 dragons (Prince on Dragon, Dragon Mage and Imrik the Dragonlord) and 3 Griffins (2 Lords on Griffin and Eltharion the Grim on Stormwing) which take up way too much space. XD I'd love the old metal maiden guard though. They didn't get rules but running them as a fancy unit of sea guard would be funny. And I mainly just want to paint them.
I enjoyed this. You should do more similar and instead of being polite be vicious lol. My ideas...Norcan flavored dark elves so imagine a more messy look with fur cloaks and skulls and maybe some bulkier armor. Necrotic lizardmen like a Nurgle infestation lots of ooze and tumors and rotted flesh. Or not even nurgle just more grimdark lizardmen. Another one a Chaos army of Bane the supposed fifth chaos God lol that Isnt Canon. And finally the last one I will mention is actually 40k but I want the Night Lords (or perhaps a spinoff non chaos renegade legion) and make them into a kids nightmare. So like your terminators are spliced with rat ogres or werewolves, your psyker is a vampire count kit bash. Stuff like that. I really don't have the money for all this unfortunately but maybe someday!
Rough dark elves does sound tempting. I've never had any inclination towards the lizardmen but as I discovered when I did one tomb king warrior I think anything can be fun. The 40k stuff really seem fun to kitbash. For me money is not an issue as I have even less time. Putting time into making videos is probably kind of a stupid thing for me to do 😄
@@honestminis9530 I totally understand that. Don't think of it as financial not everything has to be time is money. You make good videos and you have passion that's great and you should keep making them when you do have time. They have value. I agree lizardmen are boring not inclined either so I'm desperate to change that. They need an edgy makeover tired of them always being the perfect good guys.
For me the price is not a major concern (within reasonable limits) but I fully understand that for many people it is. My major constraint is hobby time. Perhaps I should cut down on the videos 😖
I would only but old minis for the old world if GW could make them with better sculpts, I'm not saying completely resculpt them just make the old sculpts better with the technology they have.
I totally agree and to a large extent that is what my video "Rediscovering the past - The Old World is comming back" is about. I think there are many that are plain good as they are. Like the metal Ironbreakers or that nurgle man on the horse. That said there is an absolute ocean of sculpts that could benefit from a resculpt but, just as you are on to, rescultp is not the same as a new sculpt with a modern look. The vast majority are only to flat. It would be enough to scan them, put them in some sort of 3d editing tool. There you scale them in the flat direction and then angle the arms and legs a bit. The of cause cast with no mold lines 😩 That I would buy!
If GW doesn't offer cheap supply... 3D Printer will go BRRRRRRR
