A very interesting concept you have spoken about. I think my goblin has been in charge for a while and part of that is because I have gained enjoyment from acquiring the miniatures and browsing through eBay listings etc to get old minis that have been long out of production for some time. All of this knowing that I wasn’t in a position to want to paint or play with any of them
This time feels different however because I have now started to paint again and will try and be more conscious about getting plenty of miniatures in a playable state. In one week I painted up 10 archers that I think look pretty good. Once I have the full 24 done I will go back and add a little bit more for highlights etc. I had the same thoughts as you in that I hadn’t painted for years and the archers are the more simple minis to put together and get painted up. Seeing progress is important and will keep levels of motivation hopefully pretty high. I’m not sure I will be able to maintain a fast pace but I would like to put out a complete unit per month so that in one year I have two small armies on the table
I’ve got to say that I’m a little jealous of all that snow. It is very hot here and I’m really looking forward to some cooler weather 😂

I'm very happy that I can evoke some thoughts!
You don't need to tell me about the joy of eBay out of print miniatures, they are the ones that brought the need for a limit 😂
People often go on about Games Workshops fear of missing out but it's nothing compared to the proper old miniatures. "When will this Mordheim special character appear the next time?"
I've only finished one batch of archers because I'm on skiing vacation (does require snow..) but I do feel that this is the way to go, at least for me.

Assembling my Tomb Kings, adding them to my 'old Tomb Kings', they are awesome. In the to me, best game GW ever had.
So I am 100% finishing this one, it will expand my 5000 points to about 7500. I also had a friend 3D print me an entire table worth of Ancient Egypt - themed scenery.
As a former tournament player, I'll offer some free advice to all newcomers to 'Old World War hammer'.
    1. Welcome.
    2. Build up your forces and paint them as you go. Start with a selection of mini's that is a playable force at 500 points. So you can play within a few days if you really wanted it.
    3. then expand to 750/1000 points, keep them painted before expanding any further.
    4. Focus your gameplay too at this stage, 500/1000points. Several small battles will teach you more than 1 or 2 big ones.
    5. At this point, paint 1 bigger monster/ centerpiece model and then an Ogre model size unit. (your army will be 1500 points by now)
    6. Find out what you like more of in your army versus what it still needs. Expand with this in mind to 2000 points.
    7. Play tons of games against as many different armies as you can, take notes on what you do well and where to improve.
    8. Expand to 2500 points with units/characters that give you more options.
    9. Enjoy yourselves and have fun with your friends.
note: there are tons of great painters who give you a lives worth of inside on painting. Do some researche before painting, it will make your life simpler.

This sure seems to be solid advice.
My original plan was to start with one of each core unit (splitting the archers in two) and then the general. Now I might have to start with the more exotic stuff while waiting.
Unless my proposed opponent jumps on one of the legacy factions because what I did not tell about in the video is that I'll have to paint both armies before my first game :p

worst part is it seems a lot of the core units are locked within these big boxsets. I just want a box of knights GW, not an extra 60 minis 😅

@@retardedfishfrogs1 I certainly hope that they will bring the core units out as separate boxes because I don't want to pay extra for bone dragons just to get skeletons :p

Since I restarted the hobby in 2019, I also keep my unpainted stuff low.. Not thought about a number but i have less than 100 right now. it feels good.. Buy new stuff when i have painted some.
I know others that just buy and buy.. they will never paint everything..

I dont know...my happiness is still there. I ordered one big bits box with Bretonnia. I'm excited to through medieval footmen, archers, and knights together, but I'm also stoked for the mass amounts of helmets, swords, and halberds I have left over!

As I said we are all in different situations and as long as you enjoy yourself do whatever that is :)
I'm also interested in Bretonnia as it is a "proper medieval army"

Very interesting video, I’m going to introduce a hard number boundary onto my collection.
ToW coming out is really tempting me to start a Orcs and Goblins army, but in reality I know that I won’t actually be able to play a game for a good couple of months.

I'm happy to hear that the message has come across and that it can bring some real world benefits.
My goblin obviously also want to jump on the goblin train when the britonnians did not show up but the wizard says no :)

I have an absolute desire to buy one or both ToW starter boxes and use the miniatures for my Warhammer Age of Sigmar projects: Bretonnian-style Cities of Sigmar and Neferata's Legion of Blood in egyptic theme.
I'm sure that I can exchange square bases for round ones at the rate of 1 to 2. Easy find someone to sell the book and templates to.
I also want to buy Bretonian Foot Knights set and make two units of male Sisters of Battle for 40k out of them.

      Awesome!
I see that you have also discovered that once you let loose of the idea that things have to be as presented on the box there is no practical limit to what you can do.
Nowadays I find the hard thing is to restrain myself from jumping on all the different ideas I get 🤯
