Kohler manuals state this and I even experience this in my K/Magnum engines. By using 10W-30 vs straight 30 they can burn oil.
Idk if its just tolerances or the ring design Kohler uses but theyre manuals do recommend straight 30 with an added note that 10w-30 may cause oil burning fwiw.
I even tried full syn & they all burn a little oil but straight 30 they do not.
    Mine are (2) 10hp, 14 & 16hp Kohler singles.
Looking into one of these for sale near me, nice tractors. Thanks for sharing, Peace

Thanks for the heads up. I sold the tractor already. It was a good tractor. Now I'm messing with a larger case tractor. Still putting it together.

Hi... i have a GTX20 with the same loader. What oil do you use in the loader reservoir?

If it goes to controlling the hydrostatic transmission, steering or hydraulic lift bucket, then it's just hydraulic fluid. You can get it from Walmart. It'll say for tractor. They used to sell 5 gallon bucket but now only in qt to a gallon. I believe dexron 4 transmission fluid can be used too. Double check on that. Only engine uses 10-30 or 10-40 motor oil.

@@tonedubb4325 Thank you. Mine is a separate PTO pump off the front of the engine with it's own reservoir and control valve body, so I wasn't sure what to use. The old manual says "Type A" but I can't find that anywhere local.
I also have a problem with the control valve at the moment. I think there's debris in the system, so may need to take it all apart.

Troybilt bought Bolens. Gtx20 is the same as gt2000. However they do make different versions of it. My has the pto in front to control the hydraulic bucket. Hydraulic fluid is stored inside the right tubing. I use this oil from Walmart in 5gal bucket. They have it in 2 gal. Super Tech Heavy Duty Tractor Hydraulic and Transmission Fluid, 2 Gallons. You can tear the hydraulic control valve apart see if any seals are damaged. Good thing is I got a local hydraulic shop sell all kind of parts I can get here. Check them out at www.fluidtechhydraulics.com/
