    Dear Kevin, you have made my Saturday, sitting in rainy Amsterdam and watching your truly spectacular hotel review! I have been following you for some time and now I'm completely sure that you are te BEST hotel reviewer on RUclips! Context, knowledge, eye for detail, enthusiasm and objective reporting are really world class!I have booked another hotel in Saigon for my first visit o Vietnam BUT after watching this review I have booked Park Hyatt! Thank you very much for all of your hard work and big respect from me👏🙏

    I live a stone's throw away (on Dong Khoi) from the Park Hyatt, Saigon. I've been there many times over a several year period for meals and entertainment as well as "staycations." And I have to tell you that while the property is quite nice and impeccably designed, the general service (not counting dining which is really good) is inconsistent and at times even absent. If you stay there a few times you might notice the lack of consistency. As one example, often times there is no doorman present and no one to greet you upon entry. Other times there is a door man. There are quite a few other issues (nothing major but it's all about expectations) which should cause the experienced traveler to raise their eyebrows.
    I have spoken to management about issues I've had and they were largely defensive as opposed to being responsive. It turns out that the hotel is run by some Europeans and at least one Aussie. Based on the service issue, I would have thought the hotel was more under local management.
    Is the hotel really nice? Yes. But when you're a top-end Hyatt property (in fact the premier Hyatt property in Vietnam) charging $350+/night in Saigon, you'd better be spot on with service...all of the time. While I've been there some times when everything was wonderful, there are times when there are quite a few issues.
    Normally I don't trust Google reviews or other internet reviews for that matter. But upon checking to see if anyone else spotted issues, I read that in fact they had. I don't know if it was comforting to know that others found issues or that others found issues in such a high end property.
    In my experience, the Reverie has the Hyatt beat hands down in terms of service (but is too over the top in design and extravagance) which is actually a bit surprising considering the standard you'd expect from an American leading luxury hotel brand.
    I'm glad that you had an awesome experience at the Hyatt, but luck may have been on your side that day.

      I (and family) have actually stayed at the Park Hyatt multiple times over the year- this time just being the first since I've had the channel and by chance the best experience of all of them. Based on my experiences over the years I'm surprised to hear your comments but to each their own. As for the Reverie, it fits a niche, but the service- while attentive- is scripted straight out of a book and just feel really unnatural to me. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

    • @user-hjsjdhs23sdf
      @user-hjsjdhs23sdf Год назад

      @@tfft Yes I agree service at the Reverie can seem a bit unnatural, but it IS professional and consistent. And they treat you quite well...everyone, at all times. They make you feel special. I don't always get that feeling at the Hyatt. I've even been at the Reverie dressed extremely casual and received the highest level of treatment. Not so at the Hyatt, not for me anyway. And remember, the Reverie is a single hotel...no chain, fairly new, and not a multi-billion company unlike the Hyatt. So I can't cut the Hyatt any slack.

    I had a dream trip to Vietnam planned for April 2020, but due to that bloody virus, it got cancelled. I’m now planning again for 2024. I’d love to visit either of the big cities then on to somewhere smaller with a great beach. Current the options are Metropole in Hanoi followed by FS Hoi An; or Park Hyatt in Saigon the Six Senses Con Doa. Your films are inspiring, I love watching them. But it really does sound like there isn’t a bad option.

    Price is a little high compared to those hotels nearby.
    We ordered 6 coffee cups and were charged like 1 million đong ( around USD 50) which is quite expensive. You can pay for less than 10 dollars in cafe shop nearby
    Breakfast included and was quite good . The staff are friendly and helpful
    It’s close to many touristy attractions around within 1 mile radius

    • @tfft

      I have stayed there- before the days of the channel. I 101% recommend the Park Hyatt over the Reverie. The difference between the two comes down to new money trying to look like old money (Reverie) and actual old colonial money (Park Hyatt). Always reminds me of (the movie) Crazy Rich Asians... The PH is Nick's family. The Reverie is Peik Lin's family.
      Only down side of the PH for me is the lobby can feel like a tour group meeting point at certain times of the day. Being the best hotel in the city has it's disadvantages- in this case, EVERY high end tour group that passes through Saigon stays there. I've personally seen groups from Viking, Tauck, Abercrombie & Kent and Lindblad there.

  • @warrenx82

    I wouldn't say this is this best best but top 2 in HCMC. Reverie Saigon is certainly more opulent and modern, Park Hyatt for it's timeless charm. Both having top notch service and amenities.

    Nice video Kevin. You’re one of the best RUclips hotel reviewers out there and your judgements I think are spot on, and exactly how I would also judge a hotel and score it after 10+ years living in Asia.
    Agree with this score of Park Hyatt Saigon and your score of Como Uma Ubud 100% ( 2 of the top 5 hotels in Asia in my opinion )
    If you get the chance, I would recommend reviewing The Bvlgari Bali, The Datai Langkawi, and The Surin Phuket (my other top 5 hotels in Asia.

    What you said about the origin of the Park Hyatt hotel is 100% true . I used to live in this area , on Dong Khoi street ( former Tu Do str. and before that rue Catinat during the French colonization ) not too far from the Continental hotel . The Brink's building was bomb attacked twice because it was believed to be the headquarter of the CIA during the wartime . I still remember the whole area was shaking like an earthquake .

Location just couldn't be any better. All the major attractions are just around the corner or within short walking distance. Sad to see that Hyatt is raising it from category 4 to category 5 but it definitely deserves it. I was shocked to find that it was only at category 4 previously.

    I stayed there in late 2018. And it was as wonderful as you described it. Truly one my best hotel experiences ever, especially the breakfast service. Excellent quality food with superb service staff. Hotel services in Vietnam are usually good but this is really the next level. It's difficult to find service staff as conversational and, as you mentioned it, unscripted in Vietnam as I found in Park Hyatt Saigon. Thank you for bringing back the memories

    • @tfft
      @tfft  Год назад +1

      Was nodding my head as I read your comment. You are correct, it's that scripted vs. unscripted quality which really define good service in Vietnam since the VAST majority of even the best hotels and resorts in the country rely on cookie cutter scripts, some more elaborate than others. This is why I think the PH is in fact better than all of the $1000+/night resorts in the country. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

(still out of my league) Walked past a few times last year and was impressed. I agree with what you say about good reviews dosent have to be expensive or the biggest, I stay at a 3 star in Sanur (holiday inn) and the staff make it, just blow you away with the service and remember your name your name etc, I feel good there and will be there in a few weeks again. I was wondering though, since you seem to travel full time, if you can also put out videos on other aspects travelling besides hotels and airlines reviews, such as best travel insurance, best credit cards, etc.... Additionally, I also hope that you can group your videos into categories and sub-categories for ease of search, such as Hotel reviews --> Thailand --> Phuket, Airline reviews --> Japan, etc...

For Credit Cards I am starting to post some content on my Patreon in that direction, but it's doubtful there will be videos about it (from me) anytime soon.

    OK, this video was much anticipated, lve stayed in my share of "Park Hyatts" some that definitely had room for improvement, so l came to this video with my armour on just ready to nit pick and l knew EXACTLY what to look for, but l couldn't find it. Damn Kevin, it is as impressive as you stated 👏 👍. Also kudos to you for responding to each and every comment, lm careful how l "spend" my YT currency and have personal experience with channels (not necessarily travel reviews) that have 25-35k subs that some how think they are WAY better than those bigger channels and cannot "keep up" often accessorising themselves with MODS. Each and every comment is responded to with a personal reply, and l truly take my hat off to you for all your hard work 👍

    • @tfft
      @tfft  Год назад +1

      Yes, I'll be honest with you, I really don't understand the lack of connection between many (most?) creators and viewers. Maybe it's becuase I'm from the restaurant industry and it would be a sin to not reply to a review online, but... I just think it's a worthwhile part of the process. I'm very sure some day I won't be able to get to all of them, but even if you've got 1 million subs, if you post once or twice a week the least you could do is sit down and reply to every comment in the first hour after publishing (or something like that). Engagement- every click, comment, thumbs up, etc- drives RUclips to suggest videos, but I guess a little known fact is that the creator's replies are weighted just as heavily as a viewer comment in the algorithm, so they're just doing themselves in for it. Anywho, thank you as always for watching. I have two more Park Hyatts coming up in the nearish future... for both of them, feel free to be in full armour hahaha.

      I have, but before I had the channel. It is precisely as over the top and beaufiful as any video will show but the breakfast was quite basic and the service was stiff, scripted and unconfident. This was years ago though, things may have changed- I do to this stay regularly eat at their Long Bar which has always been great.

    Hello Kevin, this is an amazing property for sure But It would be more accurate to say this is one of the “best city hotels” in Vietnam. Overall, I wouldn’t even say this is a top 5 hotel in Vietnam. There are much better ones such as Amanoi, Four Seasons Nam Hai, Six Senses Ninh Van Bay, Six Senses Con Dao & Banyan Tree Lang Co.

    Another great review and happy to see something so nicely written about our Saigon! I arranged a regional conference there in 2008 with about 50 delegates coming from all over Asia and Europe and everyone loved it. The hotel is pure elegance with a local spirit which can’t be said for many new properties using modern tones. Two of the competing five star hotels in the area also did major renovations some years ago but unlike the Hyatt… I think the pre renovation designs were nicer. As for the water… please let me suggest that Dasani is simply purified water which is totally different from mineral water which Europeans seem to prefer. The Dasani packaging may be less appealing than say Aquafina but I think the water is identical or nearly so being simply purified water. I may be wrong but do wish to share what I think is the case.

    • @tfft
      @tfft  Год назад +1

      To be clear about my water opinions, becuase apparantly they're controversial... no five star hotel on earth should be providing mass-produced purified water (Dasani, Aquafina, etc). If they are providing RO water in glass bottles, then I can accept that- but otherwise, natural mineral water of any brand (preferably in glass bottles...) should be the standard.

    • @Johnny847
      @Johnny847 Год назад

      @@tfft My spouse prefers the purified water so it can be used in a CPAP machine. With so many hotels providing their own branded bottled water, this doesn't bother me. The room size in this hotel does bother me. When we travel in Asia, we usually have at least two 24" suitcases plus a collection of carry-on bags. Just unpacking the electronics and the CPAP (just one), would cover every available surface. We don't demand a suite size room, but the lack of surface space would just bug me enough to not stay here.

    • @tfft
      @tfft  Год назад

      I was traveling with family who had 5 bags in their room (3x 28/30”, 2x 20/22”) plus non wheeled carry ons and the staff setup the room within five minutes of arrival. With the luggage racks they had 3 of the 5 bags setup to access anytime. Could have fit a 4th rack as well but it wasn’t necessary, plus one more open in the closet. Didn’t feel cramped at all. To each their own. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
