    Great info. I started a modified keto diet approximately 11 days ago, due to me feeling tired and previously testing as pre diabetic. According to my home testing kit my blood sugar has dropped down considerably but I am still in the pre diabetic range. After watching your videos for quite sometime, I did not completely understand the keto diet that you have been explaining and rejected it to some degree. Today is August 1, 2020, and after watching this video and another one in wee hours of the morning entitled, a 'light bulb' turned on in my head and now I understand a whole lot better as to what you're talking about regarding the keto diet. This video help me to realize that I was getting too much protein in my so called modified keto diet as I thought getting a lot of protein and avoiding carbs were the only factors.
    I AM NOW ON BOARD AS OF TODAY.
    I still have some learning to do, but surmise that I have the basics now. With your continued help and products, I will be able to learn a lot and reach my goals.
    I hope you get this message.
    Thank you.

      If you require to take 168 g in a day, 168÷4= 42g per meal.
      84 to 168 g per meal is now corrected to 42g.
      There is no protein storage in our body. So protein is required to be taken about 4 times a day. Whey protein shouldn't exceed 0.55 g /kg of your lean body weight at any time, according to the "Science and Development of Muscle Hypertrophy" book.
      Anyhow it is safe to take any other protein below 40g in a meal.
      If more than 40 g it may damage kidneys.

    • @intell0
      @intell0 5 лет назад +1

      Jeronimo Romero this is a bad calculation
      Cos it’s only fit for fat people
      If you let say eat 3,5k calories on OMAD then you need to eat 90% or more from fat
      With this calculation.
      And this makes no sense unless you wanna do medical ketosis cos you have cancer or epilepsy
      Just ignore the weight of the protein and eat put to 25% protein from meat and 70% fat from meat if you are lean
      You will still be in ketosis all day

I am 175 lb and I work out and I would like to put on at least 5 lb of muscle. I don't have that much body fat on me. I just recently went vegan the same time, two weeks ago. But decided to eat eggs. • @LauraLea40
      @LauraLea40 6 лет назад +9

      I got confused by this too. Is he saying we won't need as much protein per meal or that we don't have to divide the number of protein per meal when doing 3 meals a day into 2 meals? Meaning...I can have between 64 - 125 grams a DAY, which breaks down to 64 - 125 grams per meal when doing a 3 meal day. Will I now divide the 64-125 grams by 2 to get how much I eat for 2 meal day? That would mean 32-62 grams per meal if ONLY EATING 2 MEALS A DAY.

    Some of the confusion is from so many people using the word "protein" when they mean meat. Protein is not a menu item. You don't usually have a 3-6 oz serving of protein, you have meat. Don't be shy of saying meat. Those few vegans can make their own conversions instead of confusing the large majority of people.

      There are tons of proteins and fats in plants, which arent unhealthy like meat and dairy. Plant based keto is great, but people switching to just meat and dairy are exchanging weight loss for their lives. If youre aiming for aesthetic progress- Meat/fish takes two days to digest, so if your diet is completely meat your gut is always going to be full of the rotting carcasses of murdered animals. When I was an omnivore my gut just had this bloated appearance compared to now

    • @BillDeWitt
      @BillDeWitt 6 лет назад +33

    • @Nematichan
      @Nematichan 6 лет назад +15

      When people are very insulin resistant, and most likely very fat, they can't do that. Their hormones (insulin, hunger and satiation hormones) are completely out of wack and they need to reset before starting IF and building up to omad. When they start and eat 3 meals a day they need to calculate macro's, because otherwise they would eat way too much without even noticing it. Just like is said in this video, beginners need more fat because otherwise they'll be very hungry. Dr. Fung has some amazing lectures on youtube where he explains how obesity isn't a conscious choice, but the consequence of these hormones being out of balance.

    Per day I was having 150g of protein per day, whilst doing 16/8 fasting and sticking to keto macro percentages. This was manageable over 3 meals. However, how do I go about doing this in 2 meals? Im worried about losing muscle if I dont consume enough protein. Yet it's very difficult to eat that amount only in two meals?

    Hey Dr Berg, you mentioned that protein goes way down when you eat 1 meal per day, would you be able to specify exactly how much protein you would target for that meal if you are physically active every day?

      My personal calculations (flawed?)
      If I weigh 200 lbs then I should have 72 to 140 grams-protein/day; Which means:
      .. 11 oz to 21 oz of BEEF per day. (units: 6.5/oz)
      or 12 to 23 EGGS per day, or 4 - 8 eggs/ 3meals (units: 6g/egg)
      or 12 to 23 slices of thick cut Bacon, or 4 - 8 slices/ 3meals (units: 6g/slice)
      ...... that's WAY more than I have been eating .......
      Clearly I NEED to tune my program a bit
      What I have been doing:
      1 meal per day: 5 to 10 oz of beef w 3 oz of cheese;; or 3 to 4 eggs w butter;; or 3 slices of bacon w 2 eggs (per meal)(one meal a day) sometimes having one snack of PB & chocolate/stevia, and all the decaf java w heavy cream that I want.
      my calculations on FATS: (assuming eggs have the right ratio of fat to protein 0.833)
      at 200lbs I should have: 60 to 117 grams of fat per day
      Which means that I should have:
      120 to 234 oz of BEEF per day (units 2g/oz)
      .... that would be: 7.5 to 14 lbs of meat per day. WHOA. NOT gunna happen to much Protein!!!
      or 12 to 23 Eggs or Bacon per day, or 4 - 8 eggs/ meal (units: 5g/egg)
      or 12 to 23 slices of thick cut Bacon, or 4 - 8 slices/ meal (units: 5g/slice)

    Why would the body have evolved to ever burn protein first? I know people argue muscle is the "expensive metabolic furnace" so the body would rather have less muscle to support in a time of famine, but I still can't imagine burning the muscle that would help you hunt for food or keep you functioning, instead of body fat which is specifically energy storage.

    • @apocalypznow
      @apocalypznow 6 лет назад +1

      Sc S I agree. And this is why his explanation of what gets burned off doesn't make sense to me (everyone else seems to be confused about the arithmetic but that's not the questionable part). He basically says if you don't eat enough protein, your body will go after it as an energy source after depleting glucose and before consuming the fat. So then if you over eat protein then what happens??? It still goes after it as an energy source before consuming the fat, therefore it never consumes the fat until all protein is depleted? Seems like in order for his explanation to make sense he left out something to make his idea work, and I'd be curious what that is.

    • @KeepDancingForEver
      @KeepDancingForEver 6 лет назад +1

      If I remember correctly, in my Biology clasd back in school they taught us that protein is easier to break down than fat so the body actually saves energy by going after the protein in our body...

      Fat is very hard to burn from a chemical point of view, so the body prefers prefers to burn muscle.
      But there's an exception : when you hibernate, you burn fat while keeping the muscles intact.
      We have the genes needed to hibernate, so we only need to know how to turn them on.

    • @andrewdornan3942
      @andrewdornan3942 6 лет назад +3

      my understanding is that this is a misconception. Whilst the body will burn PROTEIN before turning to fat that doesn't mean it will burn through all your skeletal muscle before turning to fat. Dr jason Fung has lectures and interviews where he debunks this myth. Point being, people confuse protein with muscle.
