My condolences to all the families and friends of these brave young men. I lost a brother-in-law in a crane accident as well, I know the pain and when things like this happen it brings it all back.
@@chehsin lol. You were right. I had just watched his video. I also subscribed but didn’t remember the name. He’s really good. Entertaining and informative. Thank you.
Hi global news, you may want to correct your description as it is incorrect. It wasn't Cailen's first day on the job, he had been working on the crane for over 1 year, but recently returned to work after visiting his family. Not trying to lessen the tragedy, but your description makes it seem like it was his first day working on the crane.
He worked at this site/project but went to another job for 6 months, was visiting family in Kitimat and Stemmer called him to come back and dismantle the crane so technically it was his first day back on that job.
Eric was my friend. My wife and I knew him very well from Salmon Arm They took a quick video as celebration for the job they did. They've been around since the 90's and the brothers were incredibly smart about their work. This wasn't their first time on a crane nor anybody else's. Calen rejoined the team and that day was his first day back with the company. Eric announced the Sunday prior that he was gonna have another baby and on Monday they family went to drop off lunch, only to witness it. My heart goes out to all of the families. Eric, we really miss you dude. Peace and happiness to you and Pat forever. Sleep easy guys.
As a Mother of a son who has worked in construction my heartfelt condolences go out to the families of these young men. Honour them by speaking about them often and sharing memories.
It’s very sad this happened and the loss of life. But let’s hope we can take what happened and put in to more safety for everyone. Prayers too family and everyone involved with this accident.
We are from surrey we visited kelowna and in that day we were right beside the building when it collapse ,this was a very sad day ,my family is shaking.
Counter-counter weight was too close to the mast (the one picked up by the crane, then brought to a very specific place). Pretend you're picking up a 16' 2X6 at the 7' mark, you'd need to readjust to pick it up balanced. The unbalanced load tipped the jib back towards the heavier counterweights on the back.
Erection crew error they had the wrong radius when they started jacking up , almost guaranteed . unless they jacked it up too far and came off the rollers RIP
Nothing but respect for the families, This is one of the most absolute dangerous parts of the job. Please don't shame people involved for an accident. I've been involved in this type of work, and even the riggers (guys that rig for crane operators) get extremely cautious when this type of work is being done. It is not safe at all, but its the only realistic way to do it. Stay safe out there brothers.
Training training training discipline discipline discipline and total concentration. I've worked construction and there have been some jobs where I've just packed my gear and loaded my car and driven off. I simply refused to work with 'Cowboys'. I'm so sorry for these men and for their families and loved ones. I lost my Father in 1961 to a crane accident and while I can have so much sympathy, I can also be as pragmatic and as angry as I am here and as I do become whenever I hear that men have died at work. And for those who don't understand. There's no better place to be than high up on the steel on a glorious sunny day.
I only hope that these wonderful young brave men didn’t lose their lives needlessly. The news is always ready to set blame before they have all the facts. Instead of concentrating on sensationalism. Maybe you need to understand this dangerous industry and the work condition these brave young men have to work under in order to earn a living for there families
There was a lack of PPE in the video of the dismantling. Hard hat and fall arrest were not viable on all individuals. Also, why were they still occupied in taking a cell phone video when they should be taking apart a crane?
So sad that this accident happened, it was a needless loss of life and I send condolences to all involved. Its too bad that the provincial work safety does very little to inspect and / or check jobsites. Right here in Grand Forks, there is a Kelowna contracter building a 2 story multi unit apartment building who's workers do not wear hard hats, no safety boots, they wear shorts, no shirts, and from what I have observed, their shovel and hyster operators do not seem trained, but then what can one expect from a non-union contracter? More attention needs to be paid to jobsite activity, and save lives.
The video says it all safety was out the window. No hard hats , no harnesses , for some examples sure there was much more if you can blatantly see those obvious ones
First day on the job? Even if not first construction job. Very cruel. Such composure from the girlfriend. How much training time would the two have had to (be allowed) do this job?
Canada always says and is proud to say all around the world that we have the highest safety and technical standards in the whole Galaxy ! This happens in the country of the competence tickets. I worked in many places in this country and I’ve noticed that most of the workers are under qualified and aprox 40% of them have mental illness . Including workers from the airports . All this is a propaganda and mostly people with contacts can get a good job regardless of their professional level or mental level. I’m an immigrant …
You’re discriminating against people who have a mental illness?? I wonder what percentage of workers have heart disease, diabetes, etc that are working in construction or any other profession?? A lot more than you will ever know! So wrong in discriminating!!
Seems to me that there wasn’t enough experienced crew members here. All young guys. I hope this company wasn’t cutting corners to save money. I know dismantle crews are extremely expensive as are the mobile cranes and crews.
sounds like they were attempting the take down themselves, opposed to bringing in a specialized crew. I'm surprised that is even legal, I've always seen a seperate crew do the erection etc on job sites.
The union jumping on this is disgraceful. This is a very rare thing to have happened in BC and it woulod be best to wait for WCB to sort it out first before fixing fault or making hay off it.
If you saw the whole video the crane operator took, you would not be just pointing out this young 23 year old who lost his life tragically!!! The other two workers had no safety equipment on either. Yes their boss should of enforced them wearing PPE but in this tragedy, no amount of PPE would of saved them.
@@Buttercup20151 No PPE would have saved them, but the fact that they have no PPE points to a larger problem at the company. The fact that the crane operator is posting to his intragram when he should be focused on the most important part of that job, disassembly is the problem. The crane fell because the company is lax with safety and oversight.
Unions looking for a pay day where colleges and universities are capable of certifying ? 🤔 where was the safety harness and hard hats. Major 🚩 of safety on sit?
The 5th guy died because Canadians have NO clue how to build solid structures. Carton boxes calling house for half million dollars. I am so angry of that situation because I am sure there was shortcuts in safety and useless carton boxes a la condominiums.
My condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives, truly heart breaking.
Why that dude have no hard hat and why are they on social media while dismantling the crane.
Exactly. Poor management.
Most jobsites I've been on wouldn't allow workers past the front gate without PPE.
