  • Do you have to believe EVERYTHING the pope says?
ABOUT THE POPE’S RECENT LETTER TO FR. JAMES MARTIN….
I’ve been getting a lot of questions about the pope’s recent, personal letter to James Martin. This presents a great opportunity to discuss what papal infallibility is, and isn’t.
I’ve been around for three popes now, and during each of their papacies I’ve experienced my fellow Catholics misinterpret the Church’s teaching about infallibility. The papacy is a GREAT gift from Jesus. A poor understanding of it is a great burden that Jesus (and the pope) never intended for you to carry!
In short: If you’re a Catholic you SHOULD treat the pope with respect. You HAVE TO believe in infallible church teaching. You DON’T HAVE TO believe, agree with, or even pay attention to, everything a pope says.
Hopefully this four minutes brings some clarity. As you’ll see, it’s actually not about Martin, who I respectfully disagree with on many things. (That’s for a future video.) And, I love Pope Francis.
Enjoy. Share. And keep your eyes on Jesus! THAT is what the papacy…and all of Catholicism is about.
Visit reallifecatholic.com/inspirat... to see other videos and resources that I've created and sign up to get these links delivered straight to your inbox before they're posted anywhere else.
    God bless you. -Chris

Just because the Pope’s on the more progressive side of the church doesn’t mean you can dislike him. The church evolves, opens up to new ideas to try and guide these new ideas, the church would go extinct if we were so backward facing and narrow as we were before. Face it, the over-conservatism of the church would cause a lot of people interested in returning to God to go away.

You don't know how many times a day I hear "Catholics" say that EVERYTHING the pope does or says is infallible and that ANY objection/criticism of his words/actions means I'm in mortal sin. It amazes me just how many people have made the pope their god.

Parable about weeds and wheat comes to mind. The Church is w&w. But it seems more weeds than wheat from the Vatican right now. Most Catholics can see it plainly. Who can blame Chris for wanting to “clarify” infallibility?

When I get too heady in my theology or too much in this world you bring it back to the basics. Keep it up! The last time a pope declared anything Ex Cathedra (with infallibility) was in the 1950s. I'm an old lady and that was before I was born. When I was a little girl of about 8 or 9, neighborhood kids routinely slapped and punched me because their Wednesday night "Bible School" preacher taught them that Catholics worship the pope in Rome - he called us "papists" and said Catholics have to do and believe everything the pope says. I asked my Dad if it was true what that preacher said, and Dad explained it to me this way:
The pope is a man. He can have opinions about things that other Catholics don't agree with - like, he can cheer for the Boston Red Sox, but we could still cheer for our home team Detroit Tigers without being kicked out of the Church. The pope can even declare that the sky is green and the grass is blue, but we don't have to believe it or go along with it.
It's as simple as that. But as adults, we recognize that the bishops and the pope can mandate some things and expect obedience. For example, prior to 1962, Catholics couldn't present themselves for Communion unless they had fasted since midnight the night before. Then it was changed to a one hour fast, meaning you can eat until one hour before presenting yourself for Communion. No priest can deny anyone Communion just because it's the 5pm Mass and the priest knows this person ate something at the parish picnic at noon. But if the pope and bishops switched it back to the midnight fast, we'd have to obey.
Otherwise, the pope and bishops can have goofy opinions, root for the "wrong" sports team, and even say outrageous things, and nobody is obliged to obey or go along with it.

His Holiness Pope Francis is the legitimate successor of Peter. I was having difficulty with the issue of papal infallibility because of what Francis say’s and does. Then I remember an excellent video by Fr Linus Clovis talking about Our Lady of La Salette. It’s the last part of this beautiful talk that really helped me understand his Holiness. Our Lady said at La Salette that the Catholic hierarchy in these times would be a cesspool of sin. But we must also REM what Jesus said upon this Rock I will build my Church and the Gates of HELL will not prevail against it. We as Catholic Christian’s,because there aren’t any other, must pray for his Holiness because he’s under severe attack from many demons. Some say Francis should go thinking that a new Pope would be better-please don’t be so naive-if a another Pope replaced Francis, inappropriately,he’d be worse. God bless. Praise Jesus and Mary always!!!

Thanks for trying, it is important to clarify. But there's still so much to ask and clarify. To those who say he's not the Pope because of the scandalous things he says and the error he seems to promote through his action, inaction, and through his appointments (Cardinal McCarrick for one eg) - if my own father was saying those things and leading my family with this, he would still be my father. I wouldn't love him any less, but I might like him less, respect him less. I would pray like crazy for him, and you know what, I'd correct him. I'd tell him and oppose his error. So, are you praying like crazy for our spiritual Father? I have to admit I need to do more, but I'm so hurt by the Pope's words and actions, so scandalised and worried for others being led astray by all this...that I haven't done much except encourage others to pray for him and mean the first 3 Hail Mary's for him in the Rosary. So PLEASE PRAY AND FAST AND SACRIFICE FOR THE POPE AND THE CHURCH AND FOR ALL AFFECTED, INCLUDING ME :( God bless, JMJ+

We as Christians aren’t called to become complicit with the church’ wrongdoings out of respect for an individuals position❗️
🕊️“Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you.” Philippians‬ ‭3‬:‭15‬
What are we as Christian’s called to do in reference to people within our Father’s church who contradict him, Jesus and the Holy Spirit❓
🔥“In the name of the Lord Jesus. You must call a meeting of the church. I will be present with you in spirit, and so will the power of our Lord Jesus. Then you must throw this man out and hand him over to Satan so that his sinful nature will be destroyed and he himself will be saved on the day the Lord returns.” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭4‬-‭5
🔥“It isn’t my responsibility to judge outsiders, but it certainly is your responsibility to judge those inside the church who are sinning. God will judge those on the outside; but as the Scriptures say, “You must remove the evil person from among you.” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭12‬-‭13‬
🔥“But those who brazenly violate the Lord’s will, whether native-born Israelites or foreigners, have blasphemed the Lord, and they must be cut off from the community. Since they have treated the Lord’s word with contempt and deliberately disobeyed his command, they must be completely cut off and suffer the punishment for their guilt.” Numbers‬ ‭15‬:‭30‬-‭31
NO POSITION within the church is guaranteed for life or exempt from sin❗️Everyone is to be held accountable, especially those in high positions within its walls❗️To believe otherwise only opens the door for the devils wolves to flourish within it❗️
People have forgotten that it was Jesus himself who called out the Pharisees within our Father’s Temple as children of the devil❗️
🔥“For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.” John‬ ‭8‬:‭44‬
Our Father warn us about those who appear as his apostles but aren’t❓
🔥“These people are false apostles. They are deceitful workers who disguise themselves as apostles of Christ. But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no wonder that his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. In the end they will get the punishment their wicked deeds deserve.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭11‬:‭13‬-‭15‬
This is why Jesus said the following:
🔥“Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.” Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭20‬
Are we called to follow the church or it’s leaders blindly❓
🔥“Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world.” 1 John‬ ‭4‬:‭1‬
🔥“Do not stifle the Holy Spirit. Do not scoff at prophecies, but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good. Stay away from every kind of evil.” 1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭19‬-‭22
What’s the example Christians are called to follow❓
🕊️“I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message. Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.” John‬ ‭13‬:‭15‬-‭17‬
🕊️“Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses.” 1 Timothy‬ ‭6‬:‭12‬‬
🕊️“But in your hearts reverence Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to make a defense to any one who calls you to account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and reverence;” 1 Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭15‬
🕊️“Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.” 2 Timothy‬ ‭4‬:‭2‬
🕊️“Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.” Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭1‬-‭2‬
🕊️“So watch yourselves! “If another believer sins, rebuke that person; then if there is repentance, forgive.” Luke 17:3
🕊️“Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.” ‭‭Jude‬ ‭1‬:‭23‬
🕊️“But if any place refuses to welcome you or listen to you, shake its dust from your feet as you leave to show that you have abandoned those people to their fate.” Mark‬ ‭6‬:‭11‬
🕊️“You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.” 2 Timothy‬ ‭2‬:‭2‬
Why does the world hate Christians who stand firm❓
🕊️“If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first. The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you. Do you remember what I told you? ‘A slave is not greater than the master.’ Since they persecuted me, naturally they will persecute you. And if they had listened to me, they would listen to you.” John‬ ‭15‬:‭18‬-‭20‬
Are we all given the free will to follow the church & it’s leader blindly❓
🕊️“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!” Deuteronomy‬ ‭30:19
Will you follow the church blindly❓
🕊️“Just say a simple, ‘Yes, I will,’ or ‘No, I won’t.’ Anything beyond this is from the evil one.” Matthew‬ ‭5:37

Ok I have all sorts of Questions now. First wasn't James the head of the church in Jerusalem? Not Peter? Second is the catechism and doctrines of the church considered infallible?? Third my understanding is that tje Church has taught and considered as doctrine that it can grant indulgences. Probably it goes without saying that this is among the most depraved and disgusting things anyone can do let alone a christian. Given that it's one of the few times in Scripture we see Jesus get Angry at the money changes in His father's house even as to make a whip and Drive them out. Given that this depravity and sacrilege is being counted as an infallible teaching can we now trust the teaching of infallibility? More over is this not an incredibly and profoundly prideful assertion? Even Jesus Christ when called good teacher replied " why do you call me good? only God is good" If then Christ Himself 🙏 was so humble ought not the pope be even more humble ? Paul did not even claim to be infallible and he raised a boy from the dead....... yet concerning his teachings says " But I speak this by indulgence, not by commandment." Lastly concerning the Holy church. It is not infallible. This we know from GODS own mouth in His revelation to St John when GOD chastised the churches. Clearly GOD had found fault with them. ( probably because they we awfully full of themselves, )
The word, Nicolaitans, means to be victorious over the people, that is, to conquer the people or laity. It is a combination of two Greeks words: nikos, to conquer and laos, the people or laity.
But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the people of Israel, so that they would eat food sacrificed to idols and practice fornication. So you also have some who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. Repent then. If not, I will come to you soon and make war against them with the sword of my mouth.
    Revelation 2:14‭-‬16 NRSV-CI
Do not Lord it over those in your charge, but be examples to the flock.
    1 Peter 5:3 NRSV-CI

Question 1: First wasn't James the head of the church in Jerusalem? Not Peter?
Answer 1: While James had a prominent place at the council, it was Peter who proposed a divinely revealed dogma that the council would later settle upon. Verse 7 tells us that “after there had been much debate” Peter rose and addressed the assembly. In the same verse, he recounted how “God made choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe”, indicating his special role. Paul and Barnabas then spoke and added support to Peter’s revelation. James concluded the gathering with a pastoral proposal for Christians to abstain from blood and meat sacrificed to idols, lest Jewish converts be scandalized. This proposal was accepted, but it was not a dogmatic declaration, since Paul allowed the Church in Corinth to eat meat sacrificed to idols just a few years later (1 Cor 8:8-9). Furthermore, one must not forget that the role of the Pope is to be the Servant of the Servants of God. Peter does not need to act like a dictator to lead, that would be incredibly un-Christlike! James is the local bishop of Jerusalem, and perfectly able to speak and articulate himself in a council!
Question 2: Second is the catechism and doctrines of the church considered infallible?
Answer 2: A doctrine is infallible when, by an external assistance of the Holy Spirit, God prevents the bishops defining the doctrine from erring. There are 3 mediums through which that can be done - through a definition on a doctrine relating to faith and morals promulgated to the universal Church by a Pope, or the bishops joined together with their head (the Pope) in an Ecumenical Council, or by the bishops dispersed throughout the world joined together with their head (the Pope). The Catholic Catechism, whilst it contains many doctrines that have been infallibly taught by the Church (such as Jesus Christ being consubstantial with the Father, see the Council of Nicea 325 AD), the Catechism itself has not taught anything infallibly, but has only repeated it. The Catechism is what it says on the tin, a summary of the Church's teaching with references to where it is taught by the magisterium.
Question 3: What are indulgences and why do Catholics have to buy them?
Answer 3: To facilitate explanation, it may be well to state what an indulgence is not. It is not a permission to commit sin, nor a pardon of future sin; neither could be granted by any power. It is not the forgiveness of the guilt of sin; it supposes that the sin has already been forgiven. It is not an exemption from any law or duty, and much less from the obligation consequent on certain kinds of sin, e.g., restitution; on the contrary, it means a more complete payment of the debt which the sinner owes to God. It does not confer immunity from temptation or remove the possibility of subsequent lapses into sin. Least of all is an indulgence the purchase of a pardon which secures the buyer's salvation or releases the soul of another from Purgatory. The absurdity of such notions must be obvious to any one who forms a correct idea of what the Catholic Church really teaches on this subject.
An indulgence is the extra-sacramental remission of the temporal punishment due, in God's justice, to sin that has been forgiven, which remission is granted by the Church in the exercise of the power of the keys, through the application of the superabundant merits of Christ and of the saints, and for some just and reasonable motive. If you wish to read more about what an indulgence is, please see this link - www.newadvent.org/cathen/07783a.htm
      Question 4: Why aren't Pope's humble?
Answer 4: Pope's absolutely ought to be humble, as the leader of the Church and the vicar of Christ on Earth, they are called to be humble, remember Christ's words? The one who is the greatest among you, is the one who serves. Thus, in imitating there master Jesus Christ, all Christians - Popes in particular, are called to the virtue of humility. There are some Popes that do this well, and other's that do not, remember all Popes are sinners - even Saint Peter himself!
Question 5: Is the Church infallible and what is infallibility?
Answer 5: Infallibility has nothing to do with impeccability. Infallibly has to do with the Holy Spirit preventing the Bishops, the Successors of the Apostles, from erring where they define some doctrine concerning faith or morals to be held by the whole Church. This does not presuppose that they be sinless, for after all, the writers of the Bible - after God who is of course the primary author, are all sinners and yet that did not prevent God from giving us infallible truth through them. Thus, if you believe that God can make men infallible instruments of His word, then to be consistent, you can find no similar objection to the bishops! Just to re-emphasise, infallibility has nothing to do with sinlessness, God can call a local Church terrible as much as He wants, that does not bear any relation on the Church's doctrine.

This is a good article to read on that point, have a nice day and remember to be charitable in your engagements, I reworded your questions because many of your statements were highly offensive and were doing what you accused the Church of being, namely full of herself. God bless.

@@vertigo2112 I think Bergoglio was illegitimately installed. I'm in the US but I heard that a program aired in Germany a few weeks ago where Benedict XVI said that he never abdicated.
Bergoglio received a lot of nominations during the Conclave in 2005, so the "Deep Church" was pushing to get him in as Pope for a long time.

One crucial detail he (conspicuously) leaves out is that Vatican II contains error and heresy, namely with respect to its (false) teachings on religious liberty, ecumenism, and collegiality-all condemned by pre-VII (i.e., true) Popes and the Church’s magisterium. Given the fact that he doesn’t have the time to read every encyclical that every pope has ever written, it’s possible he’s not even aware of the Church’s pre-VII teachings and how they directly condemn and contradict Vatican II (although that’s hard to believe in light of the supposed “Papal Award” he was given). Or he’s just intentionally trying to deceive you (more on that below).
So why is this detail so crucial? Well, as the late Fr. Anthony Cekada so eloquently yet simply put it (in point-by-point, syllogistic fashion):
“1. Officially-sanctioned Vatican II and post-Vatican II teachings and laws embody errors and/or promote evil.
    2. Because the Church is indefectible, her teaching cannot change, and because she is infallible, her laws cannot give evil.
    3. It is therefore impossible that the errors and evils officially sanctioned in Vatican II and post-Vatican II teachings and laws could have proceeded from the authority of the Church.
    4. Those who promulgate such errors and evils must somehow lack real authority in the Church.
    5. Canonists and theologians teach that defection from the faith, once it becomes manifest, brings with it automatic loss of ecclesiastical office (authority). They apply this principle even to a pope who, in his personal capacity, somehow becomes a heretic.
    6. Canonists and theologians also teach that a public heretic, by divine law, is incapable of being validly elected pope or obtaining papal authority.
    7. Even popes have acknowledged the possibility that a heretic could one day end up on the throne of Peter. In 1559 Pope Paul IV decreed that the election of a heretic to the papacy would be invalid, and that the man elected would lack all authority.
    8. Since the Church cannot defect, the best explanation for the post-Vatican II errors and evils we repeatedly encounter is that they proceed from individuals who, despite their occupation of the Vatican and of various diocesan cathedrals, publicly defected from the faith, and therefore do not objectively possess canonical authority.”

The church Mr. Padget belongs to that has Anti-Pope Francis (Bergoglio) as its head is NOT the Spotless Bride of Christ, “the pillar and ground of the truth” (1 Tim. 3:15), the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church founded by Our Lord Himself and entrusted with the one, true Faith. No, he belongs to the Novus Ordo religion, a counterfeit of Catholicism that is polluted with the cancer of Vatican II and it’s innumerable errors and heresies.
The true Faith today means holding the Sedevacantist position (i.e., that there has been no known valid popes since the death of Pope Pius XXII in 1958); otherwise Our Lord is a liar because (a) the Church has defected (He said “I will be with you always,” Mt. 28:20) and (b) the faith of St. Peter’s successors has failed (He prayed St. Peter’s faith would not fail; Lk. 22:32). But God cannot deceive nor be deceived.
Our Lord Himself warned us in the 24th chapter of St. Matthew’s Gospel: “Take heed that no man seduce you: For many will come in my name saying, I am Christ: and they will seduce many. [...] And many false prophets shall rise, and shall seduce many. [...] If therefore they shall say to you: Behold he is in the desert, go ye not out: Behold he is in the closets, believe it not.” St. Paul also warns us in 2 Tim. 4:3: “For there shall be a time, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.”
You want to know why you’re not hearing the Faith preached from the pulpits of your Novus Ordo Church anymore? This is why. And be careful not to allow skilled rhetoricians such as Mr. Padget lead you astray.

The Pope has my Respect and Prayers..
As King David said about King Saul.
    He is still God's Chosen.
He respected and did not bring harm to Saul.
But he did not agree... all the way to Hiding from him so as to not be dragged into doing the "wrong". Which was a lot of wrong. He stuck it out With God at his side.
    I follow that example.
God knows what he is Doing
Popes are not God.. so sometimes.. they don't lol.
God Bless Pope Francis and all Religious. Please Keep the Light if Christ and feed us starving sheep... Amen!

What a cheap way to disagree with Father James Martin by using definitions of infallibility. I will trust in the word of Pope Francis any day over your extreme conservatism whereby you define your own truth. No thanks Real Life Catholic.
