I try to live a life of a Catholic of the middle ages, meaning: back then, one could live their Catholic lives without even really knowing who the Pope was. It made no direct impact in their lives; they would go to Church, pay their alms, do their charity work, and pray a lot to God. And boy, in those days, did they have heretic Popes! I do the same.
The other day I finished reading Saint Theresa d'Avila's book, the Interior Castle, my memory could have betrayed me, but I don't recall her quoting her contemporary Pope. Saints did just that: they left history take good care of any Pope's reputation. If what a certain Pope said or did anything heretical, history would take good care of that.
Nowadays, we are way too much worried in being up-to-date with every gibberish that freshly came out of the Pope's mouth. It does saddens my heart, though, whenever I hear him saying unthoughtful things, while he should be defending Jesus's Church from the heresies. However, I try my best, in my humanly misery, to look at the Cross and carry on with my life, begging God's mercy.

I was one of those Catholic converts (of 10 years) who left the Church, shortly after Francis came back, thinking the whole church had fallen to relativism. But there was nowhere else to go. I couldn’t go back to Evangelicalism. Orthodoxy didn’t seem quite right. So, I dove into progressive Christianity because it seemed relativism was the way things were going. It was awful. So much despair. At the end of that 4 years long dark night of the soul, I went to Easter Mass and, like a prodigal daughter, realized I was home. It is Jesus in the Eucharist and the magisterial teachings of the Church that I need to cling to, through good and bad priests, bishops, cardinals AND Popes. People come and go. People let you down. God never does. I thank God and the many friends who prayed me back. Pope Francis is a scandal, and I’m sure he’s preventing people from becoming Catholic and I know he’s a reason many leave, but he won’t be Pope forever. So, if you’re Catholic, stay put, keep calm and pray on. 🙏🏻

Second “Faith without works is dead, you try and show me your faith apart from your works and I by my works will show you my faith” Letter of James 1. Even Paul didn’t really teach it. “Shall we go on sinning then that Grace may abound all the more? By no means!”. So scripture clearly testifies that faith which doesn’t result in the works of over turning sin in our lives, the work of loving the poor, the work of prayer, developing a deeper relationship with God, and in summary the work of cooperating with Gods free gift of grace and forgiveness so that it makes a real incarnate difference in our lives, that faith isn’t even faith at all. I am a newly confirmed Catholic who was received into the church at Easter. I try and avoid these kinds of controversies because I simply don’t feel qualified enough to have a view as yet. However I am quite surprised that there appears to be no mechanism at least in my diocese for looking after nearly converted Catholics once they’ve gone through RCIA and have been confirmed. Some kind of group support would be highly beneficial for the first year and would stop converts simply falling through the net.

Speaking lies in hypo risky, having their consciences seated with a got iron,
Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them that believe and knoweth the truth." 1 Timothy 4:1-3..
Your church teaches to abstain from meat on Friday and eat fish or other food. It for kids marriage, another use that it is not pleasing to God.
It teaches that the traditions of men, their traditions, are higher than scripture.
It teaches that salvation is only through the RCC. If you do not believe this, read your catechism.
They teach that Maey was born sinless, became the mother of God and was assumed up into heaven. The feast of assumption of Mary was established in 1958.
Mary, herself said she needed a Saviour. "And Maryy said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. Luke. 1:46-47.
As regarding purgatory, Jesus ssid there is no other name by which we can be saved, Acts 4:12, and that Jesus is able to save to the uttermost.
"Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing that he ever liveth to make intercession fo them. Hebrews 8:25.

@@judyswiderski2682 HI Judy. Have a look at this section of the Catholic Catechism, which explains merit. It may be interesting for you:
      "III. MERIT
You are glorified in the assembly of your Holy Ones, for in crowning their merits you are crowning your own gifts.5
2006 The term "merit" refers in general to the recompense owed by a community or a society for the action of one of its members, experienced either as beneficial or harmful, deserving reward or punishment. Merit is relative to the virtue of justice, in conformity with the principle of equality which governs it.
2007 With regard to God, there is no strict right to any merit on the part of man. Between God and us there is an immeasurable inequality, for we have received everything from him, our Creator.
2008 The merit of man before God in the Christian life arises from the fact that God has freely chosen to associate man with the work of his grace. The fatherly action of God is first on his own initiative, and then follows man's free acting through his collaboration, so that the merit of good works is to be attributed in the first place to the grace of God, then to the faithful. Man's merit, moreover, itself is due to God, for his good actions proceed in Christ, from the predispositions and assistance given by the Holy Spirit.
2009 Filial adoption, in making us partakers by grace in the divine nature, can bestow true merit on us as a result of God's gratuitous justice. This is our right by grace, the full right of love, making us "co-heirs" with Christ and worthy of obtaining "the promised inheritance of eternal life."60 The merits of our good works are gifts of the divine goodness.61 "Grace has gone before us; now we are given what is due. . . . Our merits are God's gifts."62
2010 Since the initiative belongs to God in the order of grace, no one can merit the initial grace of forgiveness and justification, at the beginning of conversion. Moved by the Holy Spirit and by charity, we can then merit for ourselves and for others the graces needed for our sanctification, for the increase of grace and charity, and for the attainment of eternal life. Even temporal goods like health and friendship can be merited in accordance with God's wisdom. These graces and goods are the object of Christian prayer. Prayer attends to the grace we need for meritorious actions."

There are a lot of us who stopped defending Bergoglio. However now there is no doubt that he has crossed the boundary. This pope has introduced idolatry into the Catholic Church...this occurred in October of last year at the Amazon Synod. The pope sat in his chair in the Vatican gardens and looked on approvingly as a group of people, including a Franciscan, prostrated themselves to the pachamamma idols. Shortly after, the pope brought these idols into St Peters. Unbelievable.....I don’t know what criteria disqualifies a pope, but idolatry has to be right up there.

It is not required of the pope to give answers on everything. Even Jesus leaves us with questions aplenty. The pope may pronounce on matters of faith but you are asking him to pronounce on the politics of right and wrong. Pope Francis is a holy man and teaches us to leave our comfortable place of 'knowing' what is right and what is wrong so that we can turn away from those who act the wrong way. The way I have personally been seeing this contradiction is this:
This can be explained by the works of the Holy Spirit
I have been in similar positions, as Joe and Mark stated, in which something Pope Francis says or reacts is not ideal to our understanding, however.
We know the Catholic Church is always guided by the Holy Spirit
And one of the biggest virtues we can improve on is obedience (specially priests)
There are many bad apples to be shaken off the tree and the ambiguous or contradictory things Pope Francis says help shake and trim of the tree (The Church).

I grew up in the time of Vatican II here in the US. I was in the convent at the time and we got finely filtered and in small bliss! Then we had all the changes that seemed to not be a little breeze but a real dumping of real holy things, like too much water in the Chalice. It certainly put a lot of people in a bad way. The idea of just keeping the real things and not pay attention to the new parts, and find where you get where you can stay on a good path or I should say the windy, overgrown path. At the time it way very difficult to find a place that had decided to go slowly. It still gives me a jolt have to search for the tabernacle. It just does not seem that you are in His presence.

    *CATHOLIC CATECHISM 675:*
_"Before Christ’s second coming the Church must pass through a final trial that will shake the faith of many believers. The persecution that accompanies her pilgrimage on earth will unveil the “mystery of iniquity” in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth. The supreme religious deception is that of the Antichrist, a pseudo-messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of his Messiah come in the flesh."_
I *don't* believe Francis is the Anti-Christ; such thing would be impossible as he wouldn't fit the "requirements". THOUGH, he could very well be _the_ false prophet who will introduce him. We should simply wait in prudence, and remain as *faithful* as possible to the OFFICIAL teachings of the Church; and discern that not everything the pope says is infallible. Above all, pray the rosary everyday, and do not become discouraged. This trial _was_ expected, and it'll end with God and his Church prevailing.

Pope Francis is reinvigorating the Orthodox believers within the Catholic Church, unintentionally that is.
It is precisely because his stances and "proclamations" are so problematic, that the faithful are rediscovering what the infallible Magisterium is, what it means for the Pope to speak "ex cathedra", that even Peter (the first Pope) denied Christ 3 times and that Christ is the head of the Catholic Church!
