Great help! covered all the issues I'm just now going thru 2021.
Thank you I got two of them just like that one having the same problem he keeps on chewing belts from the transmission I know what the problem is now thank you keep up the good work
Ok guys listened to all ideas about what you thought what was the problem so this is what I came up with. This is what I did ,the main drive belt was real sloppy it was the proper 5/8x90.5 so I put on a 5/8x90 and it solved the problem, going to try a 5/8x89.5 if I can find one.Hope I helped someone having this slow speed problem
i didn't replace all the stuff this guy did but i got a 90" at tractor supply, thing is ready for the race track now haha thanks for the tip!
I’m in business and it’s a half inch shorter every time on MTD stuff and new spring
I hate a come back at 72
So the 5/8x90 drive belt you say is what the Lt1042 is needing. The belt on mine looks fine but is probably a same size replacement from whoever last used the mower
Thank You for information and advice
Merry Christmas 2022
I had to replace my drive belt on my ltx1042kw 2016 model v twin had a secret hidden , took out battery and holder and below them and fan was a grey tank that i found out held gear oil and should be changed at least every 4 years , NOTHING IN MY BOOK OF PARTS ABOUT THIS Sad that i had to find out this way I found out how to do it on youtube on vehicle repair guy on youtube .I have replace pulleys, spindles belts 284 hours on it . I have 3 acres but 2 mowers . I buy kevlar belts now . Those cheap black ones are garbage went trough to deck belts and then bough kevlar and so far lasted over 4 years now .
I agree and it’s all I will install unless they bring there own belt
Your video helped me I had a Cub cadet that was abused and never had maintenance done to it right now we are replacing the pulleys all the belts put new bearings in the spindles redid some wiring had the starter checked and it was the solenoid stuck in open position putting all of it back together this weekend thanks for the video
Thanks for watching the video; I'm glad it helped you out! Mine is still running good so far.... So hopefully I can get another 8 or 9 years out if it.
@@Pedal2Metal_on_RUclips the biggest issue is around our area there is only one Cub cadet parts store so it's a hurry up and wait on parts from online how many springs are on it I have an ltx1040 same as yours
@@johnwest2298 the main spring that goes to the varispeed pulley was the biggest culprit on mine. I replaced that one and the gas pedal return spring. I also replaced the spring thar went between the idler pulleys on top of the deck, but I don't think it was necessary.
I bought mine off ebay the lawnmower shop on there free shipping 6 oil filters 27 dollars kevlar belts deck and drive less than 30 dollars , Put deck one on back when i ordered them but drive belt back then looked fine so just saved it and now put it on kolher engine 69 year old woman but not stupid youtube a great source of info
I’ve had good luck with eBay parts but watch out on belts
I’ve had great luck with 1/2 inch shorter belt and new spring every time I replace belt. Same on deck belt also
Thanks for making this video. I intend to do what you did. The Cub Cadet engineers need to watch this too.
Jim... is that you? -Royce
@@Pedal2Metal_on_RUclips Is this Royce from Texas that we remember from the summer of 2015 in Tennessee?
@@Pedal2Metal_on_RUclips Yes, it’s me. I didn’t know that was you. We remember Cedar Point fondly.
@@MrLike2surf I'm in PA. I got you mixed up with another guy with the same name. Sorry about that
Good video thanks for sharing.
sealed bearings are the probem . I took the covers off my sealed bearings inside facing each other in the spindle . I have a zerk fitting but no grease was getting into the bearings . i found out it is common in all mowers to use sealed bearings I guess so they can save a few pennys on zerk fittings and make moey off new spindles . I rebuilt mine now . new bearings off ebay
That’s what I do on all customers mowers and if no zert I drill and tape it
Last for ever if grease twice a year
@@philliphall5198 I reccommend zerk fitting covers I got off ebay ove 5 years ago they keep the fitting clean . Plus I buy them in bright colors so I can find the fittings easier . I also do the underside of my decks wiuth slip plate graphite as it keeps grass from sticking to the deck . The oregon blades I got are useless as they hit the dek even though they told me they woud fit . I noticed my bvlades I took off my 42 inch cub cadet do have a curve to the end of the blades but the ones i got for my new 46 inch one are straight and that part hits my deck
Great video My mom has that Cub Cadet mower and when I went down there The mower was staying out when you pulled out t l engage the blades What happened someone must of fan over a cord role and wrapped around the blade Bering So I had to take the belts off and cut around the blade to get the cord off till all blades moved freely Then put the belts back on and ran ok
I guess the best way to summarize this video: I basically ended up replacing all the "return" springs, both drive belt idlers, the shorter drive belt's idler (which hangs from swing arm bracket), the vari-speed pulley (aka VSP), and bought new oem cloth covered belts.X
"Dental Floss". :). nice inclusion on parts list. LOL. Overall great video thank you for sharing the fix is brilliant. :)
You don't have to take the whole spindle off just take the boat and the bearing come just pop the bearing out because if you take that housing off more likely the damn screws usually break off then you got to drill them out so you really don't have to take the whole spindle off you can leave it just on the deckand take the top pulley off and pop the shaft out of there and replace the bearings that way I did that couple of times already in mine
I know but my old buddy wants it wirked over good and once i take off his other 2 i clean the spindle housing and paint the top part that fits to the bottom of the deck.
Then the only thing that could slicken up old bearings is a spray of oil on them
Great video. I have the exact same mower. I see links for the pulleys in the description. Any details in the springs?
What’s the measurements of the drive belt you ordered. Thanks
very helpful info. although i own a troybilt BRONCO. that nut/bolt is a pain to get to. mine has a plastic cover where the bolt is.
Did the belt replacement and not sure if I got the spring with the clip back to the right spot as now, the blades just continue to spin. pulling the lever up to disengage does not stop them. Where did I go wrong?
My Craftsman LT2000 - - identical drive train - doing the same thing - - ordering more springs and I might do that deck belt left thing - that was clever. Thank you. My belt was rubbing on the deck as well. Cheap A$$ C H I N A stuff - sucks.
I'm looking to see if you have any, sounds coming from the front of the motor, mine sounds like a Jet Airplane , not sure why? Any help would be much appreciated ty
Great vid! Question tho....what kind of clearance do you got with that bolt going thru the deck? the bolt you used to get the deck engagement cable up higher...its a thru bolt? with a nut underneath where the blade spins?TY! Keep it up with the tips on the 1040LTX cuz not many out there about this model..
It was a standard bolt that I ran from the bottom of the deck upwards
Hey man thank you for making this video! I have the same lawn tractor and havent had any issues with it until yesterday after sitting all winter in the shed. I press the accelerator and try's to move forward (or reverse) to only creep along slowly like either the transmission (what I thought at first before seeing this video) or now maybe it's a slipping drive belt due to a weak spring as you indicated. So now Im ordering the springs and perhaps those idler pulley's as well... PS. One drive axle (the left side) is covered in grease, Im thinking a seal may have gone bad. Is there an oil fill or lube for the transmission/drive unit? Thank you again!
No, the trans is a sealed unit and unserviceable
@@Pedal2Metal_on_RUclips Well generally yes, but it can be opened to fix the piece that moves the gears from forward to reverse and back.
I don't care what belts they are long as the belt works like the one i put on the deck on mine has 3 spindles
Loving these videos. I have a vid cadet ltx 1040 and I'm getting like a sliding (shhhhing) sound front the back tires. Any ideas?
Probably was a spindle bearing going out or the deck engagement pulley not stopping all the way can cause that sound
And see how cubs decks are alot similar to deeres decks their nothing like craftsman decks but craftsman makes those.
My Lt1042 is lacking power in reverse and in drive i just got its rigged up deck going today so after putting a used deck belt on i seen why the belts been shredding up from the deck engagement pulley bracket so i took the spring off and wired the pulley to stay in place so its just acting as a belt guide because the big deck doesn't go to the mower i don't even know what size the deck is thats on mine but one good thing now is its no longer shredding belts poor woman couldn't get it fixed right but her mowers lacking speed
Make a video showing me how to change the lower drive belt. Focus on the engine pulley. I can't figure out how to geg mine off to change the belt
I use an impact gun on the lower pulley bolt head, in order to get it free... Then it should drop straight down for you.
Unbolt and lift the engine a bit it’ll go right in place.
@@jmarcinko1139 If you don't have an impact, best bet is to unbolt the engine, but don't take the bolts all the way out. Just enough to lift up 1/4 to 1/2 inch is all you need for the belt to clear. You might be able to force the old belt off, but unless you lift the engine just a bit, you will never force the new belt in.
Lots f great info here, especially about low cost maintenance and repair. Being a bit of a novice pardon my question : when you change the oil and filter are you supposed to reset the hours and how do you do that?
Honestly, I have No idea how you zero the hrs out... If you even can. I just keep track via a booklet.
@@Pedal2Metal_on_RUclips Thanks. What I can find so far says you can't. Thanks for the videos they're really helpful.
I don't know either but the use one I got last month was reset and I'm bout to msg dude back and ask him
Sorry mate trying to comprehend all this stuff is kind of mind boggling
Slow speed issue? Nitrous!!!!
What are the part numbers for the springs
I think you're referring to this spring amzn.to/3nRcM8G
Do you have the link to the thick spring that goes to the idler pulley? Did it
Come from Amazon?
Any mower racers here?
How did you get the front drive pulley loosened? (2:50 in the video) It's a 5/8 inch bolt, but cranking on that turns the whole assembly. How do you keep the assembly from turning?
typically you loosen the deck to get the belt off, Not the drive pully.
metallicblue I have this mower. I took off deck, then took out 4 bolts underneath the frame that holds the motor on. Then
Tilt motor right and left to slip belt on the top front pulley.
You have to use a impact gun
Old shop secret. Take out spark plug and shove the end of a clean small rag into plug hole. When piston can't go all the way it will keep shaft from turning and you can then loosen the shaft bolt.
Use an impact. I dont understand why people unbolt the engine and do all this goofy shit to get the belt off.
fit craftsman lawn tractor
You should have just gotten a new lawnmower
Yea i agree... But $150-200 of parts is better than spending $1500 on a new mower.
I did not watch the video, after about 4 minutes of ads, I had enough!!
You sb able to skip the ads... plus, I'm sorry, but google puts the ads in...not me.
Way to long a video
