Kelly, thank you for doing this 100 day watercolor series. I know, I’m going to learn from what you are sharing and become more confident with watercolor mixing. I also like the page format, showing the gradual changes with color and followed by a simple leaf painting, using the color shown. You do a nice job explaining and demonstrating. I know, my skills are going to further develop.
I truly believe learning what your color palette can do for you and seeing all the possibilities is the best tool an artist can have. Yes we want all the colors but after this you will see a limited palette of 8-12 colors has no limits. Enjoy the process!
Lynda, your comment made me laugh. I just love them so much that bringing them to life just happens. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all. Thanks for watching!
This is so interesting. Thank you for sharing your 100 day journey with us. Sometimes I feel like I'm "wasting paint or my time" just doing color swatches, but as you've shown us in your video, they can be a work of art on their own.
I started mixing in way in my larger sketchbook and you are able to get so many more color variations but this 100 day project I wanted to experiment with 3 colors and just see what beauty they created. Hope you are doing this with your palette of colors to see what incredible possibilities pop up!

A granulating color separates. Instead of giving you a nice flat wash, it pixelates in a way and the heavier pigment seeps into the paper texture leaving a grit like appearance.
Hi Jennifer, I am usually trying out a new color I bought to see how it works with my palette. Sometimes though I just want to mix it up and randomly pull 3 colors from my box of watercolors. If you have a color you love but don't really use it, pull it out and start mixing with everything on your palette. It is such a fun exercise and very addiction so enjoy!
@@kellyhoernig Thanks Kelly! I just did my first one in my new sketch book. I used Schmincke Forest Green, Naples Yellow and Cerulean Blue. I didn’t get too much colour variance in my swatches. I wasn’t adding enough of the colour. I’ll know for the next one. I like how my leaf turned out though. I will keep playing with colours. Thanks so much for this great idea.

How is it…. That you can make a dead, brown leaf look fabulous 💗. Pure genius 🍁

Color mixing uses so little paint but the wonder it creates is unmistakable.
Gorgeous leaf and colors!
These colors are still my favorite throughout the series, I just love the color range they offer. So glad you were inspired YEAH!
Lovely project for my saved leaves. Looking forward to Thursday! Thank you.
Glad I'm not the only one with "saved leaves", have fun painting them!
It would be great with a bigger book to mix the brown and green together too. Really beautiful

Perfect for my class, Just what I was looking for. The gradient of the colors is fab!
The gradients are so much fun, glad you are inspired!
This is great! I'm definitely going to do this.
Beautiful
PS: What is granulating color?
YEAH! So glad to hear that you are inspired to color mix. Enjoy!

Fascinating Kelly! 😊
Thank you for visiting me in the Studio Teresa, glad you found it interesting!
Just beautiful!
Thank you for watching Lorrie, I appreciate it my friend!
How do you decide what colours to use? I love this idea.

The sketchbook link isn’t working
They are no longer in business. You can search Etsy for handmade sketchbooks with the paper you like and you will find a lot of offerings available.
