I get so much joy from my supplies. I like to arrange them, and re-arrange them. It’s a ritual before I use them. I start out tidy, but before long it’s time to start over again.
This has been a hard lesson for me to learn. I had bought some ink watercolors and they dried out from not using them. I was devastated. Growing up we didn’t have much money especially for art supplies and so I didn’t want to waste the “good brands” by using them often. I’m working on using the good brands more and it has been beneficial!! 😊
One thing we notice about advanced watercolor painters like @crystaltanart is that the brush assortment they use tends to be larger than a lot of beginners often select. With practice and skill, it's possible to achieve fine detail and great variation of brushstrokes with a high quality large brush, with the added advantage of holding more paint!
Love the silicone cover for ph Martin ones. The gold ones are the best gold next to beam paint. The Japanese ones are very nice dance on paper next to beams paint
I think you should try painting on a block. I always use Arches 140# or 300# blocks, then remove the sheet when you are finished and it is dry. I also use pretty much all Daniel Smith paints. Thank you for sharing your ideas.
Thank you for this! I am going to try the spiral notebook paper for a change to paint on smoother paper, and, have been using the Kuratake paints some, finding them more opaque and also just fun to use.
I love your watercolour supplies collection! The Silver Black Velvet brushes are lovely, and I agree that life is easier when you paint on 100% cotton paper. Also, thanks for reminding us that you only waste art supplies when you don't use them. I needed that reminder! I just subscribed, and I'm looking forward to watching more of your content!
Hi. I note that you showed BaoHong academy paper. Do you also use their artist grade cold press paper? It's my favorite and the kind I use about 90% of the time.
Yes I have tried their artist grade cold press but I find it too rough for me! And actually prefer their academy range. But I know lots of artist that love the artists grade.
This is so fun to watch on a Friday afternoon for me, it's like we can swopt and exchange supplies and ideas, maybe I will film a similar one to share mine with you. X
I used Simply Simon brushes for 8yrs before my bf gifted me with 5 Silver Black Velvets. I LOVE those brushes! He got me the #16 & #10 rounds which is pretty much perfect for my work, then I recently added the #6 travel & #2 to round out the detail work. Between the beautiful point & the way the brush spreads when pressed to paper I don't think I will need any more of their regular sized rounds. I have branched out with a few travel brushes but will continue experimenting lol. I got Rosemary & Co #6 round & dagger, and while I love the dagger the round doesn't have quite enough belly for my linking, width to length is a little awkward. I got the #12 Versatil travel & it is amazing! I am definately going to get a few more rounds & maybe some of their other shapes too. it has a beautiful belly & point without it being as pointy as my black velvets. Still experimenting with other supplies but loving the journey
Wow those are a lot of brush brands I have never even heard of. Will certainly have a look out for them now! Thank you for sharing. Our tools and supplies are like an extension of our creativity isnt it. I love them all.
@@crystaltanart They definitely are lol. Simply Simon is a cheap golden tacklon "acrylic" brush commonly found at Michaels. The other three, my "nice" brushes I found via RUclipsrs, though Silver & Escoda brushes are at my local art store.
I love seeing your supplies! With so much to choose from I like seeing what other artists recommend before I buy. I definitely need to get those Black Velvet brushes. By the way, it was wonderful to see you as one of the watercolor art channels recommended by Jenna Rainey in her video The BEST Watercolor RUclips Channels You've NEVER Heard Of! Awesome! Congratulations!
I am still super shocked, grateful and surprised about her mention!!!! OMG!!!! Glad you liked my supplies tour! I love watching supplies videos myself.
Crystal, I'm an Aussie to living in Melbourne, where did you buy the watercolour palette with the rubber lid that you put your liquid watercolours in??
Hey Lorens! I actually got that from ArtFriend in Singapore. Let me see if they sell it online... Found it! shopee.sg/product/458659537/13727028413?gclid=CjwKCAjwjYKjBhB5EiwAiFdSfgwNLGzjEXAIsF3HWW9LFTgwNcYxkU_wOwvNsrssniA2qFWnl1Zv7xoCiyUQAvD_BwE
Great video! I want to give the blocked paper a try. I've been using the Arches and I stretch it. Do you stretch your loose paper and if so, do you notice a big difference between the loose stretched paper and the blocked in terms of warping and texture?
Do you just paint on top of that wooden desk? I've seen people paint on top of what looks like glass, have you ever tried something like that? so that the water stays there, and nothing get's stained?

I totally get it! Such a therapeutic thing to organise them.
Could have worse addictions. Quality supplies have made a BIG difference in my experience & art output!
100% save up. Buy the best quality supplies. Spend less on going out and other frivolous things!
Sometimes when I have kinda art block, buying new art supplies motivates me to go back, try out new things, experiment and get creative
TOTALLY!
Love your final comment- the only way you waste supplies is by not using them 🌸
Thanks!!! I heard it somewhere before and was like - SO TRUE!

I completely agtee with you! I feel afraid to use mybest art supplies. Not anymore! Thank u so much @crystaltanart!

It is totally addictive. I wish I had never laid eyes on a ceramic palette in my life!
@@Angie-pl3uw OMG I am glad I haven't gone down the ceramic palette addiction yet!

My favourite choice is Saunders Waterford high white It gives me great results.
I have tried the high white saunders waterford loose sheets before and yes! They are good!

I do use loose papers some times and no i dont stretch them. Too lazy. I just try to flatten them between heavy books after it dries!
Do you just paint on top of that wooden desk?
I've seen people paint on top of what looks like glass, have you ever tried something like that? so that the water stays there, and nothing get's stained?
I am not so afraid of staining as I use mostly watercolour that’s easily cleaned. But yes I think glass is a gorgeous surface to paint on.
oh thanks a lot, maybe I'll get a nice glass desk, this helped my confidence about it.@@crystaltanart
