  • Here's a fun little episode of To Tell the Truth from the daytime run of the show, which doesn't have a lot of online representation. Our, at this point in the show, usual cast of Tom Poston, Peggy Cass, Orson Bean, and Kitty Carlisle are tasked with two interesting subjects today (the daytime show only ran 25 minutes, hence only two subjects rather than three like the primetime version). In game number one, an English tea taster. In game number two, none other than nightclub singer (and mainstay of The Hollywood Squares) Rose Marie is hidden in a veil alongside two imposters, and it's the panel's job to identify the real one!!

This was so much fun to watch. I knew Rose Marie was #1--I thought the whole panel would know it too. I would love to see some more the daytime episodes--but so few on youtube. I believe that most of the episodes from the 1st few yrs of the daytime TTTT were destroyed or erased or something like that . But, when the nighttime panel took over the daytime show -those episodes were preserved. BTW, my mother had the same teacher that taught Garry Moore. My mother was 20 years younger than Garry, so by the time my mother had the teacher, Garry was famous. The teacher would often tell the class that Garry was a wonderful person, very nice, and so on. And anytime my mother and I were watching tv and Garry Moore was on-she would tell me that story.

I don't know why they wouldn't have been familiar with Rose Marie. "The Dick Van Dyke Show" had been on for five seasons starting in 1961.

I read Rose Marie's autobiography about a month ago and it was very enjoyable...

I enjoy these Celebrity Rounds. I'm not sure when was the earliest they did one. Maybe it was when Otto Preminger was on. Which I think was supposed to air sometime in mid-October 1965. They showed the segment in a later Primetime episode.

I could well imagine that a professional tea taster would never be asked to taste children’s tea.

I also read from Adam Nedeff that as far as the Daytime run goes, except for the first month, everything else exists.

For the tea tasters, I ruled out #2 right away. She knew nothing. I was torn between 1 and 3, but decided on #1 because he answered the questions about India.

First time I have ever seen them use the masking thing. And watched this show back in the day!
How did the Rose Marie thing work? It was all the same voice! Did the voice just repeat what the contestant said?

Being a HUGE fan of 'The Dick Van Dyke Show,' I knew Rose Marie was #1. I am surprised not one on the panel got it right, but I can see how not seeing anything but the same head covering on all 3 could make it difficult - I wonder if they were allowed to take notes as they asked questions? 🤔

    I knew it wasn't Rose Marie #2 because the key of G has 1 sharp...not 6...
