NGL, I was like 15 when this came out. Massive Em fan, and I thought this song was so cool. Now I am 37 and its hard to listen to in all honesty. There is perhaps only one song more emotionally raw than this - “Daddy,” by Korn where the lead singer trauma dumps about being sexual abused as a child and his parents didn’t believe him and kept sending him back to his abuser. The song gets so intense the singer legitimately had an emotional breakdown in the sound booth, and they kept the whole thing and put in on their first album. It took 20 years before they would perform it live, and only because his abuser was dead and he could finally move on.
Kim also ended up getting pregnant with the guy she was cheating with and told Em it was his and he found out it’s not.. he raised the child as his own bc he knows what it feels like to not have a dad and he raised her (Whitney) as his own.. he was so hurt and he used his art as therapy to get his hurt and anger out.. he even married her a second time after all of this.. He really is a good person.. amazing father.. You should listen to his latest song he wrote to Kim. It was on “Revival” and it’s called “Bad Husband”.. it shows how much he’s grown!
