Flying Avelo Airlines' Inaugural Flight

- Hey guys! It's time for yet another special full flight video...but this one is REALLY up there and historic. In this vid, I travel aboard Avelo Airlines' B737-800 on their very first revenue flight ever. The route was from their base of operations in Burbank, CA up to Santa Rosa, CA. I had an absolute blast aboard this inaugural flight as the mood and atmosphere onboard from all the employees and Avgeeks to the toasts and announcements were all very special and memorable. This inaugural definitely had the most festivities of any retirement or inaugural flight and even though it was an ultra low cost carrier, I enjoyed every minute of it. I really think Avelo has a chance because they have a clear goal in mind with a strong leadership team to man the ship at the top. If they will actually cater to the passenger and treat people like humans instead of cattle, I think they'll gain a good reputation as time goes on. I will definitely be onboard again in the future to see what a normal experience on Avelo is like, but for now I really hope you guys enjoy this very special flight on the inaugural flight for this new U.S. airline!

It's nice to see a more 'Ryanair' type airline offering low fares like Avelo are. Of course you have other ULCC over in the states but the pricing structures seems to keep prices the same as other airlines so it's pretty expensive to fly compared to Europe.
I really hope Avelo can push on and build up a big network around the States. Especially for when I'm next there in February ;)

@@inflightreports didn't know that- I live in seattle Alaska's main hub so I don't really think about the other airports to much to be honest.

I have my fingers crossed for Avelo. I hope they're able to join the ranks of jetBlue and Southwest in the years to come. And that livery! Absolutely love it. Simple and clean yet still bold and distinctive.
I was eagerly awaiting the upload of this inaugural flight, great job as always. Nonetheless, I wonder how long this Airline is gonna stick around but gotta wait and see. Hence, I totally agree with all you're assessments "The seating definitely reminds me of Spirit Airlines"
Great to see all the videos from BUR this week thanks to Avelo's launch. The airport really hit a peak in 2019 but dropped up dramatically last year and it's slowly recovering. Hopefully Avelo can bring it back up to 2019 levels.
One of the few airlines I know that their HQ is in one state and the base of operations are in another. Being Avelo's HQ is in Houston, but they operate out of Bob Hope Hollywood Burbank.

Very close to where we now live (we used to live in High Point NC and I actually pointed out in one of his other videos that he literally flew over our subdivision in NC which was awesome seeing) We have family in Pittsburg and northeast Ohio so I feel like he broght home here to Burbank❤️✈️🌴 Thanks for posting and always look forward to your videos!

This is so exciting. When I first started visiting our Santa Rosa field office in 2011, the only option into STS was Alaska/Horizon. Otherwise you had to fly into SFO or OAK and deal with all the traffic. Lately, we have gotten so many new routes. Now this! Wishing Avelo much success!

I feel like this airline might make a peopleexpress mistake of aggressively expanding, I hope I'm wrong, but I'll check in a year from now.
To expensive for Avelo at my airport it’s $600 for two people to fly to the only location Los Angelos on Alaska airlines I can fly for $259
A new subscriber. I live close to that airport, the new terminal just opened and it looks really nice and spacious. Hoping you visit the airport soon. It was needed for a growing area!
As I work for one of the big airlines, I wish Avelo well!! It can never hurt to have a new airline fly to smaller airports and serve those markets that the bigger ones don’t, I feel those are overlooked and it shouldn’t be that way

Love this video so so much! My favorite airline is Alaska Airlines and I don't think you have ever tried out there 900/800 product from seattle, truly an amazing airline I would love to see them on your channel especially from my hometown seattle

Back from 1987 to 1989 I worked at STS for United Express Airlines. Since then I moved out of the area. I wished I was part of that inaugural fright for Avelo Airlines and wished to be part of the ground crew!

Believe it or not, United used to fly 767s into Burbank and Long Beach back in 1986/87.

Just found this channel..... Noted there were a number of "avgeeks" on board. Have only watched iTrips vlog of this same trip.
Interesting to get two different views of the same trip. I especially liked your call out of the various geographical features that slid by on departure from BUR. Was really amazed at the low water levels in the reservoirs across the state, especially northern CA.
I'm going to peruse a few more of your vlogs.
Two subjects never addressed here--who came up with the name 'Avelo'? And will they ever join one of the Big 3 FF programs? So your a/c had a 4hr layover before heading back to BUR--what were your plans upon arrival? Did most of the avgeeks mill around till departure? Was surprised to see AS and AA parked on the ramp,guessing Avelo is the only airline flying mainline jets to Santa Rosa--would be a great marketing ploy to have one or more wineries feature their product onboard on Santa Rosa departures--would be nice to feature some sort of service upgrade(seats,catering,bonus mileage) for those willing to do so as a future idea
Wish they would try Bur-MSP. No airline flies that route nonstop. You think Delta or Southwest would..but maybe Avelo could make it work.

You should have mentioned Santa Rosa is the home of the Charles Schulz Museum for Charlie Brown/Peanuts gang fans to go visit.
I liked the video overall. It's nice to see mainline aircraft return to STS. The Sonoma County and Napa County regions are beautiful...been there several times.
Maybe when they make their way east, Macon, Ga will be considered. We have Contour Airline that flies only to BWI. Another airline would be great

Awesome trip report! The crew were very nice and friendly. Also, the legroom looks quite good for an ULCC. I hope to be able to fly with them in the future.
I hope they really know what they are doing , and don't expand so fast it bankrupts them. That has happened to many startup airlines. I see They just started flights out of Burbank, and already announced they are opening a base in Connecticut. I'm not sure that is a wise move this early in their operation.

You can drive fromLAX to BUR. There the same city.

Fly to Omaha when the new Midwest Express has their inaugural flight from Milwaukee to Omaha!!! The old Midwest got bought out by Republic and Frontier and I miss their chocolate chip cookies and first class seats!!! When this happens I bet you a bunch of AV Geeks will want to fly to Omaha!!!
