To answer your title question: YES. 💜✈ Avelo reminds me of the earlier days of Southwest when I was little.
I've flown this airline seven times now, all from Burbank to Humboldt County. I have yet to have anything but a great, easy, very affordable experience.
First off, the economics are great. The only options to fly to/from Humboldt used to be on United. You could fly from LAX (about $600 round trip) or from SFO (about $800 round trip). It made it very difficult for many in Humboldt to be able to fly from the local airport for purely economic reasons, so most residents used to make the 4-5 drive to the Bay Area to fly from there. Major inconvenience, obviously. But, I paid just under $130 round trip to fly with Avelo (including seat assignment and checked bag fee). This is going to make travel so much more accessible to people needing to fly to/from Humboldt. I imagine the same is true for people flying to most of their destinations, which tend to be smaller, regional airports that didn't used to have many carrier options before Avelo.
Second, the employees are always efficient and friendly (and well-dressed). They seem to be creating a culture in which employees want to work.
Third, they do what they promise very well. The seats are comfortable and have plenty of room (even for a tall guy like me). They have always been on-time or early. My bags (when I checked them) always arrived unscathed. The lavs were clean. They give you a small snack. There are individual air vents (which I really appreciate). What more can you ask for on a 1 hour, 15 minute flight? Frankly, I would say the same for a 2 hour, 30 minute flight.
There are no frills. There is no WiFi. There is no inflight entertainment. There is no loyalty program. There is no choice in beverage service (you just get water and a package of cookies). But who cares when the flights are all short and cost less than it would cost to drive to their locations? If you want more food options, just get it on the ground.
The only odd (not bad, just different) thing is the booking process. It isn't hard to figure the process out at all, but it is different than most US carriers. You pay a base fare (usually something ridiculously low like $29 each way). Then, if you want to pick your seat, you have to pay a fee for seat assignment; which vary depending on the seat, but seem to range from $10 to $35 per leg; you don't have to do this, but then you take whatever seat they give you at check-in, which could be a middle seat in the back or could not be next to your travel companion. But, if the plane is pretty empty and you're booking near the date of departure, you can probably skip paying for seat assignment. Then you pay a fee for your bag. If you just bring a personal item (backpack, purse), there is no fee. But it was $25 for a proper carry-on bag or $20 for a checked bag the last time I flew; when they first started, it was $10 for a checked bag and $20 for a carry-on, but I'm guessing the higher fuel prices forced them to up this fee. There are also additional fees for things like bringing your pet. So, realize that the advertised base fare isn't going to be what you'll really pay if you're bringing a bag or want a seat assignment. But it is still super affordable after all of this.
The only other very minor nit is the process of deplaning seems to take about 5-10 minutes longer than on carriers like Southwest. They use manual jet bridges, which the ground crew have to push up to the plane. There seems to be several things they have to do with the jet bridges before they can be used (brakes applied, handrails attached, etc.). And this all happens as the plane is parked. So it can take a few minutes to get the door open, but, as I said earlier, I was always still on-time or early.
Very impressed with their service, and I expect them to grow quite a bit...and probably get pretty full flights given how compelling their value proposition is.
I am glad to hear they are keeping up the great service and following through with their promises!
Great review thank u... Im so excited that avelo will soon be in my home city.. New haven CT
Take advantage of those $19 flights while you can! Plus only $10 checked bags it's a great deal!
Shocked Allegiant never considered flying into Tweed
@@donaldpaluga they seem to serve big airports vs smaller ones
Glad ive watched this ill be flying via Avelo thid saturday!Thank you
Best review so far! Love the crew, they seem super cheery!
Thanks! They were definitely fun I really enjoyed them!
you can't judge yet. They might be just trying to get customers, so at thestart they will have better service. Because of this you can't really judge till later.
@@Kaizoku_Zoro I'll definitely have to do a follow up!
You did an absolute fantastic job with this review. Subscribed!
Thanks!
Congrats on flying the inaugural!

Love to see it man, I hope that one day Avelo offers more destinations in Washington because pasco is 4 hours from me
Yeah I hope they expand too!
I felt your enthusiasm, man. Great vid. What a great way to spend a day - back and forth on a new airline to a new airport. I like all airports - any airports - they're all thrilling. But smaller regional airports (like YLW) are kinda special. Thumbs up from Canada.
Thank you! I absolutely love it!
You know the crew is amazing when they remember you being on a previous flight!
Right!
Great trip report! Their service was super good. Legroom was quite nice.
Thank you I really liked them!
Nice review! Looking forward to a quick trip to the wine country. I have downloaded their app and it is easy to navigate and very complete. No constant upselling like some other ULCCs.
That's awesome! I didn't download their app so that's good to know it works well!
Well done!
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing, definitely want to try this airline out. :)
I hope they expand to more than California soon too!
I few from santa Rosa CA to Las Vegas NV. And it was wonderful the staff were really nice. They did not give any thing to drink. Which was fine with me. I would use this airline again.
Thanks for video! Did it appear if they were picky about the backpack size? I saw they only allow a personal item that's 14x9x9 ... which is smaller than my laptop lol.
Avelo will start flying at Lakeland Florida in May or June of 2024 which is an easy get in and out airport between Tampa and Orlando.
1:35 Burbank has a lot of aviation history. The once, long-time-home of Lockheed Martin. Lockheed built a lot of jets in that area.
Hopefully they connect each flight to each other.
Awesome review! Do you know if you can bring a small dog in the cabin? I know other airlines allow it but was wondering if they do :)
That I am not sure, you would have to check their website or call
Awesome video I used to work at Sonoma County Airport (STS) back in the day and wow how that airport has grown.
I bet! It was pretty cool!
$19 to Santa Rosa
$29 to Bozeman Montana or Ogden Utah
Great prices right!

Hello Avello!😊
Can’t wait to try them out. Also, what camera are you using?
I use the gopro hero 8, it's awesome!
What do you use to record videos?
I use the GoPro hero 8
@@jmantravels Thanks. Did you have to ask permission to film or are you allowed to no matter what? Just wondering
@@K4Ediamond this was one of the first flights, so the crew were super happy to be on camera so I didn't even think about asking permission. Not sure what the rules are now but that's how my experience was.
😂 I’m last to the point they would call my name on the PA.
HOW I CAN GET CHIP PRICE LIKE THIS!
They have lots of cheap fares right now check out their website!
I love BUR
I would love to go back!
