Classy review. I was ready to buy one after watching but remembered I already own a 814CE, My first impression after spending some time with mine was it sounded "glassy". So much so I searched for new strings. However, EVERYONE and I mean everyone LOVED the sound. So I just let the bright tone grow on me. This guitar when played hard will easily cut through most background sounds including the loudest of crowds.
Hi, thank you for your inquiry. On this video I used Elixir guage 12 phosphor bronze strings (12's) but my favourites are John Pierce strings (12's or 13's) Saludos - Diego
This is a jewel more than a guitar, high end Taylors are beauties but you can get a very nice US made Taylor without the dressings but with a very similar sound with the 300 or 400 series
Thank you for your comment. I wish I had written that! It is "Good-bye Blue Sky" by Pink Floyd. It's on the album, "The Wall." Stellar front to back! Warm Regards, - Diego
I just purchased this guitar in the Tobacco Sunburst finish, and it is my new best friend. I also find that I can play it pretty hard and get great sound out of it, especially when amplified through our PA, which is a QSC K10 system. Great review.
You are absolutely right! It doesn't hurt but does add tension to m and a. Thanks for the tip and I hope others can benefit from the advice. Cheers! - Diego
Hi Gary, I like the Fishman SA220 Acoustic PA. I usually have to roll of the lows off but I use it for nylon (with a microphone) and steel string and like it very much. The support on the bottom is the De Oro Guitarest Guitar Support also for sale on the site. Click the link above and then click on 'Guitar Support' or Google "De Oro Guitar Support." All the best - Diego
@john814ce Hi John, I can't answer your question because there are so many unknown variables. However, theoretically it is possible. Your first line of defence is a good case. I like Calton fiberglass cases with the rubber seal. Store your guitar in it's case when not in use. Lean it upright, keep it away from any heating source, heat vents, windows, etc. Humidify once the heat goes on to maintain 50% humidity. If you fly, have a case which is arched top ANd bottom.
@BillEvans1956 It was advice given to me by my teacher in Spain, Andres Batista. It was how he told me to care for an expensive hand-made guitar. Shops will also store their expensive guitars this way. I follow my teacher's advice. All the best - Diego
Hi, still a very nice review - I own a 714CE very similar to the one tested here. May I ask for a hint where to look for a TAB for that nice Pink Floyed arrangement "Blue sky" ?
This one seems brighter in sound than the Brazilian version of this guitar-Why? And why does the 816 Ce sound better over all on the higher strings than the lower strings? Just wondering? Thanks.
Hi Jesse, every piece of wood is different, but generally Brazilian has a deeper, darker tone. Can't really comment on the 816ce. The larger body should have more of an impact on the bottom end. Anybody out there have some thoughts about it? All the best! - Diego
Thanks for responding. I i'm still stock on the 814 Ce Brazillion one;and if the price is the same and still of that in a about six months;i'm thinking on it with lighter guage of strings. Shoot any one of these Taylor high end guitars will really be a treat to me? I used to have an Ovation GC507?! LOL!
Nice demo. Love this guitar, just tried one at my local store. What're the first 2 songs you played a part of? Very cool, and I recognize the first but can't put my finger on it.
That's how I've been describing it to people. Brought tears to my eyes first time I played it. It's a bit like Harry Potter. You don't choose the "wand", it chooses you. :)
Yes, this is the 2011 model. To the best of my knowledge, the current 814ce is identical. Same woods, same body dimensions, same appointment scheme. All the best! - Diego
I have a 30th anniversary 814ce from 2004.....just recently stumbled upon some strings called "Clear Tone" dont be scared of an unfamilliar name they are amazing......my bass level and highs feel like they doubled.....for 14 bucks give them a whirl......
Im interested more on the guitar pick up....pls dont use condenser mic only....pls plug in also to a speaker inorder to test the quality of the guitar pick up system...
I happen to have one in stock. $2975 with free shipping to the USA. If you're interested call 519-352-7370. Ask for Steve or Bob. Check out the limited edition 814ce Cocobolo that I just demo'd. It's a very cool guitar! All the best - Diego

@john814ce Just the term that came to mind to represent how the trebles seem to "shimmer" from the spruce top.
Hey,just a word to say thanks,I really appreciated this video you made. It's nice to see someone playing with such skills :)

Yes, it is the 814ce. It just has a little reverb added.
At De Oro Music we sell the 814ce for $2979 (Canadian Dollars). The De Oro Guitar Support (seen in the video) sells for $31.99. Kind Regards, Diego
Good advice, I'll be sure to include that in the next review. All the best! - Diego
