I have a feeling youre going to go full time with YT which I for one would be stoked to watch more than 1 episode a week from you.
@db5235 aaaahhh must have missed that part, in that case get a black one to add it to the fleet
Chad…. Brother, don’t tape the bottom of the window at the nailing fin, that creates a dam and will hold water. Tape sides first, then top to seal top,of side window tape. Go back to last year and read the comments… seriously, you need to remove it. Out-swing door…😂 prayers for the families affected, props to you for helping the best you could.
Made the mistake on the first window. Had to go back and open it up 😅
Kudos to you. This is the modern day equivalent of the American pioneer heading out west - I’ll build a 2000 ft garage on my own, and figure it out on the way. Not many people have the guts to take that leap.
And then they end up paying way too much.
Fill your fence post up with concrete keeps the bees from getting in there. And it’s a lot stronger. And I live in Leander, Texas.
In my opinion a deadbolt on a door that opens outward is totally worthless. But then I don’t like outward opening doors because you can’t put on a storm/screen door. I bought a brand new house and within a week of taking possession I replaced all the outward opening doors with inward opening doors. I’m enjoying your garage build. I’m not much for cars. But you’re doing a really nice job on the build.
Love this new truck!!
That tire though is not my favorite.
2 things. Don't tape the bottom of the windows to allow water to drain or weep. Run foam can between the gaps of the framing and windows/doors. Sick colorado. Wish I would have bought the 2024 instead of a 2022. Still badass!
Made that mistake on the first window... had to go back and open that up. Good catch 🤙🏽
You should consider tinting the windows to help reduce heat even more
After replacing all the windows in our home with high-E glass, I don't think tint would do much except reduce the amount of light entering the shop. All our windows are cool to the touch and measure within 0.1 degree of the surrounding wall , which is at the ambient temp we have our heat pump set at.
In Florida, it is required to install windows with both solar and wind portection. I paid nearly 200 for 30 x 30" windows for my shop.
If you end up keeping that outswing mandoor, they make special hinges with pins that insert into the door to keep the door secure if someone removes the pins in the hinges from the exterior.
Thanks for this! Been wondering what the best option was
Watching this series makes me want to build my own garage now
The weather in Texas would stress me out. Glad you guys had minimal damage.
Not only a corded router but a bigger one. Glad the tornado missed you. Shop is looking great.
We are in a hot area. 300 days of sun a year. We had our windows tinted and it blew our mind how much heat that it cut back. Tint those windows brah!
My heart goes out to all that were affected in that terrible group of storms. I am glad you all were safe.
I am excited to see the final steps coming together.
We are wishing you the best of luck.
Sliding Door
Careful with that door that swings out. The hinges are on the outside. If someone wants to break in, they can just pop the pins out of the hinges and take the door off. Thats why exterior doors swing in not out. Hinges are not accessible
They make blind hinges for exterior outward opening doors to address that problem
Forget the shop. That lawn is looking great.
Yea all these storms past few weeks have been crazy. At least we finally got a break from them.
This year's been NUTS... happy to see we're about in the clear. Here comes the 100+ weather.
Looking more like a shop now. Can't wait to see the garage door put in.
The door is MASSIVE 😂 just got delivered... not sure how I'm getting this thing up 10'+ in the air.
@LonestarHawaiian I know you will figure it out and can't wait to see the video of it going in.
Glad you survived the storm with minimal damage
Wider post holes. Keeps em from moving. I learned my lesson.
I would add more windows on the west side of the shop more natural sunlight
Don't know if it's already been said but doing a open out door give the bad guys direct access to the door pins. Be in your shop in a matter of seconds
Thinking a jigsaw may have worked better than the router, but either way you got it done and it looks great man. Glad y'all made it thru the storms safe. Can't wait for the next video.
Expanding foam for fence posts is an option.
Ive never seen green flahes like that.. thats how uou know a nader near ya
Planning on some kind of security grills for the 6' windows? They look like walk-in doors, especially since you post what's inside the shop!
Also for the ac and heat put a small concrete pad on the back side or the left side if you are facing the garage door and small room for the air compressor on the outside in a small room or if you have to have it on the inside put it in a small closet with insulation in the walls to act like sound detection
The problem with an out swing door is that all I need to do is pop the pins out of the hinges since they are on the outside and take the door off and I’ve got total access to your garage
Most hinges have a security dimple/hole on them to keep this from happening.
@@superdude1820witch can easily be broken
Glad you got the windows installed OK. Hoping you have fantastic insurance on the shop, and home, if you can get it in Tornado Alley. I put the 36" in-swing door into my new shop to where it opened over the electrical panel, which code requires a 36" "free" space in front of anyway, so I lost no wall space. Out-swing is great for a secondary man-door! The main difference in window cost is in the frames with composite/wood/fibreglas frames having thermal breaks and lifetime warranties. I did Ply-gem like yours in my shop and installed Anlin brand windows in our home for 1/3 the cost of Anderson and 1/4 the cost of Pella. The glass has exactly the same rating regardless of brand. The Anlin PVC frame is much more rigid than the Ply-gem.
Always enjoy these videos. Hope everyone was safe in the storms.
Glad you and your family are safe.
Shop is looking good! Glad you guys were not impacted by the storm and praying for those who were. God bless Texas
Amazing progress on the garage.
Love the Colorado ZR2 Bison!!!
If I was 10ish years younger I would have bought one.. but I really got a smoking deal (62K) for a Silverado ZR2 for about the same price as what the Bison goes for.. so I had to pull the trigger.
More room, better engine.. but no 35's
Man, i thought the storm was to close for comfort in Denton... i couldnt imagine being in your shoes. Stay safe and blessed.
Glad the worst of the storm missed you.
Glad y’all made it thru that storm ok 🙏🏻. As soon as I seen the power flashes, that was a no doubter! 🌪️
glad you an family are safe an didnt sustain any heavy damage.
Living in Texas myself you never know what the weather might bring. Keep up the great work.
You might consider bell-ing the holes for concrete. When we build fences here, we bell the bottom of the hole so that it’s wider and shouldn’t pull out of the ground
“Don’t hit the glass… don’t hit the glass….” 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
You should think about some reflective tint for your large windows. Enjoying watching the build!!!
I found an easy way to nail the flange of windows without fear of breaking them. Use some sort of drift pin or something. I used a brass drift pin back when I was framing houses. Something like that works fine, even a bolt. I also suggest putting some sort of coating on the windows if you don't already have some. Lets the light in but not the heat. Maybe automatic blinds in the works?
I started watching you just shortly the garage. I am from the Katy, Tx area. I would have framed the rear wall for a future full size garage door. But that is just me. Great job. You are a true DIY RUclips guy.
Thankfully you were all safe and your home and workshop are OK too 👍
man I dont know how you find the time to work a full time job, rase two kids and build this shop. I have 3 kids and a couple companies and i am trying to build a camp for my family, it is so hard to get time to go work on it. Truly inspirational man. Keep grinding.
vinyl windows don't last as long and you can get a triple pane window or a low-e. my windows were 400-500 a piece from the factory. i went aluminum and low -e
You were so lucky that the tornado skipped over your place. Maybe you should put a storm shelter next!
Probably should come up with a support system and lock the gate open when storms come. Just an idea. These storms can drive you crazy.
I usually open it when the storms roll in, but this one got super severe out of no where 😳… not making that mistake again.
Theses storms in Texas have been wild.
Curious if you tried using the high output battery in the router?
Next build....Tornado Bunker! 🤙 Glad everyone is safe!
the shop looks great. save up money for a new door with the blinds built in. over time the blinds will turn yellow and crack and may break, there is no way to replace the blinds. everything else you have done looks great and very solid
Prayers for your community. Happy yall are still safe. Loving the shop build videos as well as all the car content
Glad you and your family are okay. love the content and I'm really glad the ZL1 is unharmed. keep killin it man!
So glad y'all were okay. These storms are a nightmare!
Do enjoy watching your work. Making your dream work. Have not seen a lot of your videos. But I love to see you both teaming up and getting it done. FAMILY AWESOME
Aloha Braddah
I have been watching your videos for a little over two years now. I am really loving the content , both on the cars and the shop build. I am glad you and your ohana are safe and keep up the great work. I can't wait to tune in next week. Aloha Oi
🤙🏽🤙🏽
So glad you and your beautiful family are safe. Got real worried there for a min. Prayers for your neighbors and community.
I'd recommend shadowbox fence if it goes down again, it lets the air get through so it's not as much of a sail in the wind. Glad your damage was minor compared.
Man its been a long road since Hawaii but im glad ive been here for all of it. ❤🎉😊
You should consider a storm shelter in your new shop. They make garage models
Just before you said "green sky's, that's not good", that was a power flash. Always look for those when under a tornado warning, its roughly where the tornado is, or where the strong winds are.
Oh and become best friends with your saws-all that will help with those window cutouts.
I’m glad you’re happy with those Plygem windows from Home Depot. The reason the other windows from companies were way more is that those Home Depot windows with have the gas escape in 1-2 years on average and they aren’t super insulated compared to others. For your shop. It’s perfect but for your home a good high quality vinyl with multiple coats of low e and double glazed double pane with argon and a foam filled frame with a good warranty 1k-1400 per window is the sweet spot including labor.
For the fence brother, get some oil field drill pipe 3.5 inch, will withstand any storm
Ive done a lot of work with a router and looks like the router bit has gone dull so you might wana sharpen it or get a new one, amazing to see the shop coming together
I know you’re working on the shop but we need some OG Silverado content on the Baja build sometime soon!!!
Side door is in backwards. Hinges are on the outside
Glad you and your family is okay that's all that matters!
Hope you have a safe room in the house.
Glad y’all got through the storms without major damage. I recognize the are you show on the video of the storm damage. We came through the next morning and saw a good bit of carnage. We live in the town just south of you. I enjoy your content…keep up the great work.
Missed us by a 1/4 mile. Fortunate it didn't run through a few miles south of where it did. That would have been really bad with how many residents there are now on the south side of Celina.
For sure! We are on the Prosper, Celina line…frontier rd.
By the way, there is a big corvette syndicate show this coming Saturday morning. A few of us will meet up and ride together there. Would love to have you join us if you can. If interested, let me know how best to PM you. Was looking for option on RUclips and couldn’t find a link.
Narrower router bit cuts better, and just a larger motor. It ends up being faster if you drill pilot holes from the inside, snap a line, grab a circular saw and set the depth and cut the openings. If you need to clean em up a little with a flush cut router bit it’s fast and easy.
I been watching this build for the last 17 years. Ready for the grand finale! 😂
Just wanted to make sure you don’t have future problems brother!! Mahalo 🤙🏼
Hey man I started watching you when you started with the build and its so cool to see it come to live and its fun watching you make them just go on like you do!!
Nice workshop. Loving the build. I didn’t know Chris Traeger built sheds.
Looks amazing! I’m enjoying the build with you guys! 😊
Take the tape off the bottom of the windows. They need to be able to drain properly! Nice work!
Great job. I was out of town visiting in California and my phone wouldn’t stop notifying me about the sever weather we all had. Good job on your repair of the fence
Your shop is looking amazing
Thnaks for watching!
One of favorite RUclipsrs I follow, you and the Perkin Brothers! Thanks for sharing and good luck on your 200K
the shop looks amazing
Fascinating that you have storms and tornadoes like every other week and still build paperhouses....
Epic Video, Congrats on the progress and we are so glad you guys are all safe. We Live in Tenn. SO yeah we got tornados too.
Nice. Just window tinted few of my windows around the house 20% the wife loves it.
It's really coming together bud, looking really good! I got my floor all done last week and just picked up all my lifts yesterday. We got the big side by side partially put together, at least two of the rails installed. So much more to go but slowly coming together. Take care and don't work too hard, hopefully the weather cooperates for you the rest of the year!
I can't believe you're coming up on 200K subs!!
Welcome to Texas : state of tornadoes, floods, high heat and power outages in the summer & winter ! GL. !
Out swinging doors do better against wind load l, so that's another plus
If you didn’t know, businesses charge so much for work for example for windows because they get base rate charge 15-30% on that to the customer for all parts then you have to include labor which varies depending on state and company a project like yours in my state new install $5k for alpine clear over clear about $8k for Anderson or Windsor
Living in Dallas as a kid, those storms scared me. Realy nasty.
This side up ^, lol. It looks great, and I'm glad it held up. I'm sorry for the people who lost their houses, but at least they are OK. The weather has been crazy here in Texas this year.
Where are the skylights? Why are you not allowing for natural lighting?
That's what you do when you move from Oahu to Texas. I just was struggling to put my ne 2500 HD in my garage with my OBS at my house in Kalama valley. Your making the move look tempting.
Texsux....What an outhouse basement!!
Make sure you put some sort of rain diverter over the side door. Any rain blowing on that side will go right into the top of it. Front door also if weather tends to blow in from that side. But the side door is super important due to the lack of roof overhang.
I'll be installing some flashing and trim here soon 🤙🏽
@@LonestarHawaiian I get it, but you will need a decent overhang over each door to prevent water intrusion. Best method is a small dormer over each door. You've done great with the sealing so far, keep it up. I'm about 3 hours south of you, so we deal with similar weather patterns here. Basically you want every sheathing opening to have some type of overhang to divert water.
Love the new truck. I have a 08 GMC full size. The little Colorado maybe my next truck. Will see how the little 4 cylinder turbo does in my wifes SUV. We only had a little rain and bunch of wind. We are west and a bit south of you guys, but not far. That also came really close to my in-laws place, but they are good. They cut their summer trip short to come back with all the storms.
One tip. Take the stickers off, otherwise the sun will stick them to the glass. Looking great !
Taking them off now! (Wasn’t sure if the city inspectors needed them on to verify…
Like a true Texan, standing outside during a tornado warning 😂
Gotta watch the show 🌪
Totally did that myself I kept going out to watch the storm with the one that hit Houston 😅 as someone who grew up in a desert like area I love storms and can't help but watch
Man, i just saw my first tornado this week what timing
Love the video! Great work! (Are those side door hinge pins really supposed to be on the outside of the building? Crooks could pop the pins and have a Chevy Buffalo)
