When he told me that he needed gas as he had a quarter of a tank left and I still had 3/4's of a tank left. We both were full when we took off. I have to use premium gas and he used mid-grade. His first fill up cost almost $80 and mine was $40. I'll keep my big V-8. Oh yeah, both are stock.

Been sayin' the same. Colorado is cool, but no V8, no dealio. Always preferred an under worked big displacement above an over worked lesser displacement engine. The only thing is mountain driving requires boost. Supercharge all V8s.
I have a 2024 ZR2 Bison and I just love this truck. From any angle it looks great. AEV did a fantastic job making it all blend in perfectly. You would never know from a distance that my truck has a winch, but it does. It has real meat and potatoes it wasn't stickers and graphics. If I really really wanted a v8 I can get a Silverado ZR2 Bison or even better a Prospector XL based on the Ram 2500 chassis with the cummins diesel. 3 things I would change on the Bison; 1) I want an extended cab not the crew cab , 2) give me a 6’ bed with that extended cab, 3) get back to the V6 at least and a small block v8 would be HUGE over a 4 banger turbo. Edit: I just saw that you agree with me on the small block LS V8. Come on GM, get it done!!
I'm a Ford guy, but I must say the Canyon/Colorado trucks are really good-looking trucks. I'm just not into having a 4 or 6 cylinder engine with a turbo because it won't age well like the eco boost engines.
Awesome video! Now I’m a Chevy truck owner and I gotta say. My truck is a 2007 Chevy Silverado same color as yours. Dark Blue!! I just flipped over 302K and well it’s like this. I’m in need of a full DOD deletion as of 180K. However I have decided to rebuild but to push its limitations. Normal wear and tear. Transmission solenoid replaced. Multiple batteries and 3rd alternator. Dash has severely deteriorated and fallen apart. Motor still runs good just sometimes load ticking. Usually when oil is low and needs changing. After researching on the DOD deleting I have found some other contributors to this issue. For instance the oil pickup tube deteriorates and therefore loses suction and doesn’t allow oil to maximize to top leaving rockers and springs less lubricanted. And possibly a problem of bad lifters for the DOD. So sometimes soon I’ll rebuild the motor. Delete the fuel on demand, turn it off in computer to get full V8. Full delete kit includes new cam and all replacement DOD parts including a valley. $400-700 from Texas Racing. Now I know the newer trucks like yours is subject to have this issue. Hopefully not but be prepared. Cause I hear they won’t even start because the oil pressure is toooo low. Now I have extended my motor life by replacing the oil filter twice during during a single oil change of 5000. Replacing to oil filter at 2500 keeps the ticking at minimum, adding oil pressure back stronger. Hope this helps. But do the research. Many are on RUclips complaining about these same issues.
The colorado looks good, but when I, when I gave it a test drive, it was just too small for me. Plus, I really liked the z 71 trail boss, which I have more fun with.
The knob shifter is so nice. Cleans up a lot of space and even though you may have a physical shifter it's just for feel now as it's electronic and not a physical shift cable or lever. Love the knob on the dash of my Rams
Great video broooooo nice job love your energy and reviews. Love your work, accidentally found you and nowadays I recommend everyone to watch your videos. Coming from a guy that works at gm in South America
So I just bought a zr2 Silverado a few months ago, it has the 6.2 and active exhaust and the blacked out badges. Loveeee it!!! But I do kind of want that zr2 Colorado
Yes circle air vents are almost always a bad idea. I agree with absolutely everything they said, even the small details. That doesn't happen often. Great Vid.
So in Australia the Ranger Raptor is the only one we can get, and brand new you are lucky to find one under $90k … soooooo I would say your prices are wayyyyyy better! That Chevy is unreal, and I wish we had them here!!!
Yes you can take it off Tire rack have few bolts holding it down to the bed I have a aev at4x gmc canyon version of this But tire oook bad ass so I am leaving it the way it is
Love your vid! The side-by-side comparison of the 2020 TB shows how mid-size is a bit more than mid! Only thing not noted is the length comparison. Can you elaborate on that difference?
We build that in my plant. They used to have a baby Duramax in them and a V6. They can put a V8 in them, they are built in the same place the cargo vans are made, and we still put V8s in them. Talk of putting the 3.0 Duramax in them was going well til COVID caused them to change directions. Love your builds and shop!
I bought a 2021 AEV Bison 3 years back and have been super happy with it, though it does totally lack many of the digital features of the 2024 and the 35 inch tires. I opted for the 2.8L Duramax, so my mileage is a bit better. You are right on the nose when it comes to V8 vs V4 Turbo gas. That little engine trying to push a midsized that weighs the same.
I have a modified 2021 colorado bison with the 4 banger diesel and it sounds good, had it tuned and a new exhaust. completely upgraded the truck in my opinion
Also check in console mpg vs dash trip. Mine never matches. Don’t know why but in the vehicle app trip mpg is always higher than it shows on trip in dash cluster.
It is so nice for a midsized truck. Maybe for someone single or if you don't have the space for a full size. The wife is correct as always... it's so hot 🔥 here in Tx!
I love my 24 bison but I live in a dirt road and when I drive on it.i always get a rock that Hits the side of the truck to the point where I had some paint come off I wish they would have made the fenders wider to solve the problem
Only reason I bought my Jeep Gladiator Mojave over the ZR2 Bison (life long GM guy) I wanted to take the doors and roof off. I still have my 2004 Chevy Colorado ZQ8
They have to keep making the bodies bigger because the emissions are based on the volume of the vehicle. If the EPA was out of the equation, we could start having lower cost reliable vehicles, and the free market would take care of all the rest. It’s the government involvement that has ruined everything.
YES!!!! Thank you for giving GM real feedback. I am buying a truck not a friggin Prius! Put V8s in cars and Colorado’s too. V8s please - thank you again for giving them real feedback - GM you should be listening if you want sell more trucks!
I have to admit, this certainly shows how impressive the F150 power boost setups are with a 0-60 of 5.3sec. I’m looking at all the options right now so this is a consideration. That said, I know you guys are driving with some big boots on both vehicles…which slows it down but is a worthy price to pay for the functionality and looks.
I have a 2024 Silverado RST with the 5.3 V8 but if I could afford another truck, it'd be the ZR2 (Bison or not) Colorado. They look cool, off-road capable, etc. I just need the space a full size truck offers and I definitely want that V8 sound...which coincidentally, I'm getting a cat back exhaust on my truck as I watch this video. Great content as always!
coming from a 392 durango with a borla atak I am enjoying the quiet motor. I thinkt he AT4 is the better all around truck with 33's and alot less Bison weightand 35''s best part is no lifter issues like the 5.3/6.2
I was recently in the mid sized market. I was torn between the zr2 and the gladiator. I went with the gladiator, fully loaded Rubi for 46k. I got a smokin deal but ultimately I thought a gladiator was better than zr2 in terms of Offroad capability. My needs are different than others and I wanted something I can still take to Home Depot but still do serious offroad trails. Like I said I bought for 46k, I put 8k into lift and wheels and tires (37s) and shocks. I am super happy with my purchase and certainly saved a bunch.
Absolutely Sexy Truck! Overall I love how Chevy puts their efforts on designing this truck, especially partnered with AEV with those add-ons. The only thing I am a bit disappointed is the 0-60 time, 9 seconds is a bit slow for today's standard.
I thought the base Colorado ZR2 had a 3" suspension lift to clear 33s and then AEV added an additional 1.5" lift to clear the 35s?.....for a total of 4.5" of lift.
I'll keep my ZR2 Silverado 6.2. It has more space and doesn't feel as cramped. It also gets better gas mileage than that Bison. I love my truck and if you love yours, that's all that matters.
You missed the part about NO PHYSICAL HEADLIGHT KNOB! They just expect the auto headlights to always be sufficient. You have to go through the control screens to manually turn on the headlights.
Where i live at in northeast Tennessee i prefer a midsized truck as our forestry and logging roads can be very narrow. Good luck driving a full size truck on them roads. I enjoyed driving my 2024 zr2 last weekend up by hotsprings,nc and up on max patch in Madison county,nc. It easily. Went down a open forestry road and forded a stream 3 times with ease. I plan on replacing the 33" tires with 305/70r17 tires or going with talker narrower 275/85r17 tires. Plus putting bronze or black colored wheels in the truck. They would look better on my truck as i bought it in the harvest bronze metallic color.
These little trucks are cool for guys that are short or any girl. I tell my wife she should get a little truck all the time but, she loves her jeep compass. I'm a 6ft 2in 205lb guy...I had my fair share of smaller trucks when I was 18-19yrs old but, then I grew up lol. I'll stick to my 2021 full size Chevy.
gosh man, i have a 2023 rst with a few options on it. I paid around 60k for it. A new LT trail boss is around 70-75k right now. Also, in 2021 I had an RST, before the interior refresh, paid around 47k. prices are insane right now.
I'm with you! They should put a small V8 in the Colorado and Canyon. Maybe a 4.0L similar to the 2UZ from the old Toyota Tundra. It gets decent MPG and has plenty of power for a truck of that size. That would immediately set them apart from Toyota, Ford, and Nissan in the segment.
Gear selectors haven’t been physically connected to the transmission in a long while now. Omitting the giant shifter leaves room for more storage or utility space.
My 2022 Colorado LT 4x4 CC has a 3.6 V6 and gets 22 to 24 on the hiway all day long with Duratracs, in town i get 18-19 all day, same HP numbers as the 2024 but way more pep and better mpg. I love the looks of the 3rd gen better.
Riddle me this Bat Man. Did GM (Chevrolet) finally make the 360 Camera System "Fulltime" active? Do the Camera's come on with the Turn Signals? Does the Front Camera come On when Slowing down into a Parking space so you can see how close it is to other objects? As is, on any GM (Chevrolet) truck, you have to have a Trailer hooked up to the truck for the cameras to activate. So again, has Chevrolet finally figured out that "WE" want the Cameras Fulltime active? This is one of your best videos Chad, but I am hooked on watching you build the Shop.
This is one of your best recent videos. Great content and comparison between both trucks. I’m not a GM guy but the Silverado and new Colorado are two of the best looking pickups on the road. Great idea to suggest Chevy drop the 5.3 L into the Colorado. That thing would SCREAM with that power. And you backed it by showing the MPG for both. We’ve been told the reason manufacturers are going to smaller displacement engines with turbos was to improve MPG for about the same amount of power from a naturally aspirated V8. It went in the wrong direction and they’re charging much much more for these trucks. The TRD Tacoma at $65K is absurd. And the Colorado isn’t that much better. I don’t get it. Feels like a big con job to sell turbo tech.
The 2.7 needs more upgrade options which are coming out slowly. The rear seats in the Colorado might as well be gone because no full grown adult is sitting in the rear comfortably.
Great content, I don't like the Tire in the back, just my opinion, Totally agree with the Large Engine... but it would cost 100K if chevy does it, just like the Wrangler v-8. Just ridiculous... a v-8 shouldn't be a 35K upgrade, IMO.. and yea, people would be in line if that thing had a v-8 wondering if this truck has the Lane Assist, we do alot of interstate miles. And yes, someone explain to me why the single cab S10 I had years and years ago, and the HONDA ridgeline with the ACCords v-6 engine all get WORSE mileage than my F150 V-8 which can see 23-24 on Highway ?? my entire life I have wanted explanation to this.
I must say I do like the styling and capabilities of some of the new mid-sized trucks out there. With that said, I have the same issue with the overuse of turbocharged 4-cylinder engines. Sure, with the turbos the engines make a decent amount of power. Aside from other problems, like they are tiny and don't sound great, if the turbo goes, and it will; you are essentially driving a brick. The problem with the naturally aspirated part of the 4-cylinder engine system is that they have little to no power without forced induction. This sucks, especially in a truck, if you like doing truck things. With an 8-cylinder engine, you have decent power regardless of whether or not you decide to add forced induction. The other issue with the small, under-powered 4-cylinder engines is that when the turbos go out, they are expensive to replace. I would much rather have an 8-cylinder engine. I suppose for trucks, they could at least start with a 6-cylinder and add turbos and it would be a bit better than just a 4-banger.
I have an AT4X, so understand getting a truck outfitted nicely directly from the manufacturer, but the truth of the matter is no matter how well a truck is outfitted, you're still going to modify it. So with that being said...let the modifications begin...
I don't care much for the V8 vs. 4 cylinder debate as long as the truck can perform. This is an impressive truck in the midsize segment. With that being said, it's kind of ridiculous that a midsize truck with turbo 4 on 35s has worse fuel economy than a Ford Raptor on 37 lol. My Raptor 37 gets 18-21 mpg on highway and 14-16 city....Looks like both GM and Toyota has some catch up to do on turbo engine engineering.
I much prefer the drivability of the 2.7 over the 5.3 to be honest. One of the major reasons I went from a Silverado to a canyon at4. I do like the sound of a V8, but these things are all going through automatic transmissions so they sound kind of stupid regardless. The low end torque of the turbo is a much better benefit than the “cool sound.”
Yes, I heard the turbo Max engine for the first time with a exhaust on it and it sounded disgusting. I just told my GMC Sierra looking for a new VA truck thinking between a Silverado and a Ford but it must be an eight cylinder.
HEY GM....are you listening to this video?!!!! Put a V8 and sell a whole sh*tload.
Without afm/dod..
Agree

When towing the V8 will be superior on fuel, for all other conditions the smaller engine with the turbo will be better.

I would love having an ls crate motor put into my 2024 zr2 truck.
I love the looks of the 3rd gen better.
did he build the shed today !
New day, new time in life ,on new models vehicle. Turbo engine it the 21th century.
Great video friend! 😂
One of your better videos lately! Keep up the good work.
Stunned the mileage is that bad but I bet that "little" truck is pretty heavy.
When are you going to release these shirts/hoodies? ... Please use True Classic T-Shirts for them if your willing to make.
Still driving my 2007.5 Silverado in Dark Ming Blue Metallic 116,700 and counting.
The 2.7 needs more upgrade options which are coming out slowly. The rear seats in the Colorado might as well be gone because no full grown adult is sitting in the rear comfortably.
5.3 LT Trail boss are now 63K-68K
But no one is paying that, most are 8-10k under MSRP
I would prefer 3.0 diesel and 2k inverter in colorado bison
Multiply by .9? So it’s 10% less?
Saw a thing where you can buy a rear view camera mirror off eBay and a 3rd brake light with camera and just put it on your truck
I’m sad that I spent 16 minutes of a Chevy commercial. I tune into your channel to follow your builds. 😢
At least the Nissan comes with a V6 & top of the line Frontier is "only" around $49K.
Got my canyon evelation 35k OTD (JB4 Map2) 0-60 (5.6 seconds) 👍🏻😬
That thing would rip with a v8 in it. I would buy one for sure!
But why do you need both then?
Do you sell your hats snd shirts, seen a few i like you wear
4 banger 😫 that’s a huge no no for me but it’s cool looking it just has no soul thanks for the review
Just got my 2024 Colorado trail my 2020 Silverado has not left the garage . I like my Colorado way better
Yes, I heard the turbo Max engine for the first time with a exhaust on it and it sounded disgusting. I just told my GMC Sierra looking for a new VA truck thinking between a Silverado and a Ford but it must be an eight cylinder.
why not an air forced v6
