I’ve done small mods here and there and always enjoy to see what you do next. Keep making great content man peace out. Thanks for making me smile 😀
Just ordered mine for my 2021 GMC Sierra AT4 (6.2L). I also found a local fuel distributor here in Oklahoma that sells 94-octane...on my third tank. This trucks ROARS with 94!
Depends on the engine/compression. The owner's manual for this truck says to run 93 octane for optimal performance, acceleration, and fuel mileage. Running 93/94 octane DOES exactly that. In other cars/trucks not set up for high octane fuel...93/94 does nothing.

If you are expecting it to keep it from having the lifter failures…It won’t. I put it on my 6.2 AT4 and it’s in the dealership right now with only 23K miles on it. I’m pissed. 🤬
I keep reading that the Pulsar LT does not work on 10 speeds which is what the 2021 Trail Boss LT, 6.2 is... That's what I am getting into on Monday, also about 44K miles. But based on what I'm reading here, it does function appropriately for a 10-speed, correct? That's what your Trail Boss is, a 10-speed right?
I highly recommend the Pulsar LT. I have had it on my 2019 TB for a yr now and still very happy with it. No issues at all! It’s very easy to install, a direct plug and play, and when I take my truck in for service to the dealership just unplug, and afterwards plug it back in. It saves the settings so no programming it again. Watch out for the throttle sensitivity setting, if you set it on the highest setting your literally spinning tire, especially when it’s raining or wet. lol

@@rogern5368 No, they are currently testing this on my truck. We belive that if you don't change any perameters on the truck with the Pulsar before you take it for inspection (within about 300 miles) it should pass inspection. When you change parameters such as tire size or turn off the DFM, the computer looses the emissions information is what we are thinking. Just like disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. You have to drive the vehicle for 100 - 300 miles so the computer has a log of the emissions. I just took my truck to the dealer and told them the Pulsar was on there. That dod/afm issue with the cylinders and lifter has been going since the 2014/2015 models, whenever gm switch to the direct injected engines. It's happening on both 5.3 and 6.2

Great video man. I’ve got the 2021 5.3 Trail Boss. Lifters failed at just over 14k miles. Transmission seems to be acting up now. Heading back in to Chevy this weekend😑. Love the truck though, but it is definitely disappointing.
I bought a 22 gmc Sierra 5.3 x31 and installed the pulsar lt at 5 miles and have had no problems at all. Truck has 9800 miles and runs awesome very good product
The lifter failure risk will not be mitigated by the pulsar. It’s caused by defective lifters from one specific GM supplier. Lifters can still fail with pulsar.
Another RUclipsr LMFSCREW had the Pulsar installed on his 6.2 and he had a lifter failure at 5000 miles. So disabling DFM won't do anything for failed lifters. I've seen more people with 5.3s having lifter failures than 6.2s. Luckily mine was built after the bad batch of lifters was identified so hopefully I don't have this issue.
The best way to disable AFM/DFM is to remove the AFM/DFM lifters. Johnson 2110R lifters and hardened pushrods from somewhere like TSP. You still have to tune it out of the ECU, though, and that gets harder and harder with the newer ECU's.
You actually don't need to disable auto start/stop if you are disabling DFM as disabling DFM automatically turns off auto start/stop. It says this in the manual; however, it will look like auto start/stop is still on when you just disable DFM because it doesn't turn the indicator light off. It does disable it though, and the switch becomes useless as pressing it does nothing, the light always stays on. Also someone asked about the limiter, Pulsar doesn't let you eliminate altogether but you can crank it up to 140 I believe.
Great video. I can not afford a new truck I’m thinking to buy a 2018 Silverado 5.3 with 50K miles on it. How can I make sure that the engine still on? THANK YOU
My 2017 Silveraldo LTZ had to replace motor at 80K due to failure. They suspect bearings. Oil changed every 5k religiously. Aggravating for this long time GM owner. Great videos. Thanks for the ideas
The pulsar lt won’t do anything to prevent the lifter failure, but at 20,000 miles you aren’t likely to have an issue. Most failures are occurring in the first few thousand miles.
@@miguelcarranza184 yes the 5.3’s are affected too. I believe it was a few months of production of the 21 models were affected. Good thing is if it’s going to fail it’ll do it in the first few thousand miles and won’t damage the motor if you immediately take it to the dealership to be repaired.
You might be right but I had heard that the dynamic fuel management was part of what was causing the lifter failure but then again it could just be bad batch of lifters
I have a 2017 Silverado 5.3L, tuned it with a Bully Dog for 87 octane. Wanted to see what the fuel efficiency was with and without the AFM. For my truck, it was worse with AFM active. Highway I can get 21-23 mpg driving around 70-75 mph average, and with AFM active I get around 18-20.
hey thanks for the heads up my friend i bought an 6,2 had two owner and had only 60 clicks maybe this was why then i looked at the 6,2 reviews after watching your video almost pooped my self an kidney with how much people were complain about the 6.2 blown up
Love your videos man. I just bought a 2021 trail boss with the 6.2 clean carfax with 45k on it. I wish I found this video before because I bought the range technology that plugs in to the port that cancels the AFM DFM but that's all it does.
Although I haven’t heard about this affecting the 2.7L as the 6.2L now I gotta see if this is available for the 2.7L Turbo Max because I HATE having to remember to turn off the stupid auto start/stop every time I turn on the truck
I added the Pulsar to my 2020 Trail Boss 6.2. I worked great for about 800 miles and caused a fuel rail pressure low code P00C6. Contacted Edge and they sent me an over night label and had it back to me in less than 6 days. Some how the software was corrupted. They fixed, and I reinstalled. I love this thing. Makes the truck drive like it should. Even with a software hiccup, I did not waste on second putting it back on. It is simple to install and simple to set up.
I didn't come to talk crap. I really didn't, but now I can't help it. I was interested in a used RST z71 with 20k miles locally. I did a little RUclips research to see reliability, and stumbled upon this apparent common issue. What a joke. What's even funnier is the people who defend GM when it happens to them. In the past week I've seen so many comment like "my lifters went out at 15k miles. I really love the truck, I'll give it another chance.." Fucking priceless. That's like the guys who's girls always cheat on them and they know about it. "I'll give her another chance, she was just drunk and didn't know what she was doing.."🤣🤣. Thank you for your honesty and videos. You and many others have let us know the real deal with these trucks. Sorry man...I'm coming from a Tundra, and I just love the look of these silverados. They are so aggressive looking, but it's a hard pass for me after a week of research.
I have a 2022 Trail Boss in mind, test drove one yesterday, I priced for an additional 2" lift which will make it a total of 4", 20" Fuel Covert, Toyo MT 305 x 12.50. Steel metallic in color. 🤔
Aye! New fan enjoy your vids. DFW here as well and just picked my ‘21 trailboss last month. Inspirational stuff bruda you’ve got me hooked already running LASFIT 😂
I just ordered the range obd plug in off American trucks for now ..maybe a year of running this I’ll go grab the pulse tune ..I’ll update and let you know how the range plug in works ..thanks for the video I was a day late though lol
Hey! I just purchased a new 2022 1st Gen (prior to 2022 refresh) and am wondering if A) you would still recommend this module, and B) do you still recommend waiting for 20k miles to apply these changes. Thanks!
I've got the Bullydog GT tuner on my 2008 Silverado. Love it. Does everything I need it to and then some. Pulsar looks interesting and really similar. May look into that for my next truck I get. Thanks for the awesome video as always!
Great video! I see you have an 08 Silverado, I ask because I just bought a 2012 Silverado 5.3 and I am just discovering AFM? Did you use something similar to fix the 08 AFM? I subscribed. A lot a great content. Mahalo from Arizona
I have a Cadillac escalade 2011, always serviced at the dealer, at 117k miles camshaft bearing came out of the block, it cost me 9 thousand dollars to get a crate motor from GM installed, at 170k miles they had to remove one of the heads for a lifter failure, i love the 6.2 motors, but I'm disappointed with the reliability
FYI - Pulsar LT did NOT prevent my 21 Trailboss 6.2L from having lifter failure. 10k miles on the truck. Heavy engine knock. Dealer replacing one full bank of lifters since I'm over 8,000 miles (the GM TSB only allows replacing both banks of lifters if the engine has LESS than 8,000 miles on it).
Have you had any annoying rattles on your passenger side? my 2021 6.2 trail boss has them I ended up taking off front two door panels . Had to wire tie cables and all sorts of little plastic Shit, rattles are gon for now
I have this truck and already trading it in because of these weird electronic systems. Although they say they don’t avoid warranty I went to multiple dealerships after an approved lift and they all say it’s voided although a dealership installed an approved lift. They relay you must take back to the dealership that installed it to receive a possible warranty
I have a 2019 Trail Boss and a 2018 Camaro ZL1. So far no trouble with the engine in the truck with just over 21,000 miles. Did have to replace the cam and lifters on my 6.2 Camaro ZL1 at just 22,000miles, warranty of course. Hope I don't have to send the truck in for the same problem. Looks like we have the same taste in vehicles. Love your channel, just subscribed.
Hi I like yours videos. I have a 2021 Ltz Duramax Silverado. And one the I was playing with all the buttons and I end up disconnecting the stop and go button. And no wrong messages.
I’m actually getting about .5 mpg better economy in my 6.2 after installing, not counting the first 200 miles of play! Coasting seems to roll more freely as well, might just be mind games since I’m not hearing the helicopter anymore.
Definitely interesting. I have a 2019 trailboss LT z71 and don’t really know if it has DFM. I know it does not have AFM as the little V4 is not present on my truck. I know this does not completely prevent the failure but i like the idea of it if it can help prevent it. I’ll be doing a little more research.
Okay I just ordered it. $481.00 not too bad. Came to $516.00 with sales tax, free shipping... I did buy it through the link in the description of your video.
@@ChrisDIYerOklahoma now I just have to see if I want to install it in my truck or wait until I get a new one. I might go ahead and install it anyway since it's so quick and easy.
I am so envious about this dudes garage. I have a 65 year old house with a "2" car garage that my 23 Silverado RST doesn't fit in. It might fit 2 clown cars. I want a garage like this badly.
Cost on thePulsar is overt 400 bucks. Other throttle response like commander, Hike It, Roar Pedal…200 or less all do about the same for throttle response. I have a 2022 Trail Boss like yours and am in the middle of adding and upgrading a few items
400 for a programmer ain’t bad at all, this one does a lot more than just throttle response. I think I paid around $500 for my old Diablo, though that one as really a performance tuner and I’m pretty sure would void the warranty. Sounds like the reviewed product is somewhere in between.
Hey! I just subbed. Just found your RUclips recently. I have a 2020 LT Trail Boss 5.3 which is stock basically except for an AWE cat-back exhaust and a Pulsar LT. Stock 18” wheels with the dura tracs. I saw one of your vids but I can’t find it now and I want sure anyway what the answer is. Here’s my question… what is the performance of the truck 0-60 with stock wheels ? Best pass? I saw you running one with a 6.2 but I wasn’t sure if you had the pulsar on max throttle sensitivity … plus you had non stock wheels. Oh, what’s the catch can? Where do you get it? You have so many vids 😵💫 that it’ll take me forever to find this info. Thanks!! Really like the vids I’ve seen so far 👍.
My new 22 ACADIA AT4-AWD with the LGX 3.6 liter V6. It has the older style AFM. It goes from V6 to V4 constantly. Does Pulsar Lt have a module for this set up as well? Thank you.
Is this unit for the 5.3 liter only? I have a 2021 6.2 with 6" lift running 35's on 20" rims. Really worried about engine problems. Bought the truck new and have only put 4k miles so far.
You make a lot of videos where clean your truck before you start doing anything to it. Do you plan on making a video showing your cleaning process and the supplies/tools you use?
We recently purchased a 2021 Silverado Lt Z71 and I was delighted to see on the build sheet that it DID NOT come with active fuel management 😊….probably because of the chip shortage 🤷🏾♂️
@@nathanbuck81 I’m still worried about all the issues the 2021 GM vehicles are having such as bent push rods and failed lifters. Only time will tell I guess 🤷🏾♂️
It’s my understanding, and I could be wrong, that AFM was only up to 2018. 2019-2021 vehicles were equipped with DFM. Essentially same thing different name. That being said, the failure could occur with either. The only thing I’ve been able to find is that if the truck is equipped with the AFM then you would see a little V4 pop up in your screen. DFM has no such indicator.
If that’s true then I guess there is a silver lining to the shortage that got a lot of folk out there with expensive trucks missing basic essential luxuries like working seat heaters and such. …got to have seat heaters, never want to go without ever again since my first Silverado with that in ‘14!
I just bought a 2021 Tundra without DFM and auto start/stop :). I considered a 6.2l but after watching a few channels break valves and GM admit it's a problem I went another way.
I just bought a new 2022 Silverado. How do I know if I have the chip for DFM? The dealership couldn’t tell me. It appears I have some of the same features that would suggest the chip is there but not sure how to tell. Your videos are very informational
Just bought a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3L. It doesn’t have auto start/stop currently due to chip shortage. Do you think the DFM is currently disabled as well?
Will this stop a lifter failure? I’ve already had my 2017 in twice to have lifters and pushrods replaced. I’m disabled and can’t afford this anymore. Please help me figure out away to save my truck.
It seems you further modified you oil separator tubes with insulation? Can you expound on that? I know you originally wrapped them with tape. Thank you.
Can you use a K&N throttle control module with the Pulsar?..I currently have one on my '19 Silverado with a Corsa performance CAI and Sport exhaust system...and I get that helicopter sound on deceleration. I would like to know if the K&N module will conflict with the Pulsar.
Picked up the Pulsar LT a couple weeks ago after seeing it on some other channels. Most interested in turning off Auto Stop and DFM, but plan to use the tire size and and tire pressure sensor tools as well. Been waiting to put it in until after we (my 3yo grandson and I) install our new Cold Air Inductions Elite that just arrived!
I installed the Pulsar LT Range back in December of 2020, after emailing an engineer back and forth with the company. Complete game changer, it was about the same time I installed Borla S-Type Carbon Fiber exhaust and CAI…. 12,800 miles on my 2020 5.3L z-71 and absolutely love driving it! Cant wait to see your truck lifted!!!
Could the pulsar help with the F*****G LIMP MODE? I’ve changed throttle body, TPS sensor, it’s terrible. 2019 chevy 1500 5.3L which does not have the DFW or whatever it is
Silly question but if you plan to take this in to the shop for any warranty work or maintenance are you just taking this out and re-installing? I ask because I am considering this instead of the AFM/DFM Disabler that goes into the OBD2 port in the cab and will be taking my 21' Sierra 1500 in to get the passenger side lifters replaced (driver side already replaced due to a bent lifter) in a couple of weeks. Appreciate your perspective.
Been a year, how’d it work out for you? Only computer mod I’ve got so far is a speedometer calibrator for my 35s but even with just that I had one shitty dealer wrote up that my warranty was void (had me fuming!!) I bought my truck brand new and already modified from a huge dealer that sells new lifted trucks so I know I can always drive several hours to them if needed. Not sure how “chipping” the engine would affect the warranty though. I just recently crossed 36000mi on my 2020 but I did buy the extended warranty so I definitely want to know before I risk it.
I love the little dude in the background he’s just doing his own thing

@Tim Youngs yes. Lifters will still operate with pulsar deactivating DFM.
@@FastSS02 when was the issue found? So I can see if my truck was made after. Please and thanks!
@@FastSS02 the only reason you see more 5.3 than 6.2 is that 80% of these gm trucks are 5.3s
He didn't have the pulsar installed when the engine failed fastss02
I like seeing car wash montages because it distracts me from how long it takes me to wash my vehicle
😅facts
I have a module on my 2014 sierra with the 5.3, and after a week, the truck is already running way better. no more surging or idle fluttering.
Was it replaced under warranty?
Would you have to remove the pulsar before taking your truck in for service so the dealer doesnt see it
Oh my God donuts and coffee Gotta have it soon as I wake up! Love what you doing bro keep it up…
The pulsar lt won’t do anything to prevent the lifter failure, but at 20,000 miles you aren’t likely to have an issue. Most failures are occurring in the first few thousand miles.
Hey ben hry? Do you know if that problem with lifters are on the 5.3 engines aswell?
@@miguelcarranza184 yes the 5.3’s are affected too. I believe it was a few months of production of the 21 models were affected. Good thing is if it’s going to fail it’ll do it in the first few thousand miles and won’t damage the motor if you immediately take it to the dealership to be repaired.
@@bendungan2276 thank you sir! Last question if i have afm on 2021 chevy trail boss, how i know that should i see a v4 in the dash correct?
Right, you still have the same DFM lifters
You might be right but I had heard that the dynamic fuel management was part of what was causing the lifter failure but then again it could just be bad batch of lifters
What I want to know is does it really not void factory warranty because That’s what I’m nervous about
I have a 2017 Silverado 5.3L, tuned it with a Bully Dog for 87 octane. Wanted to see what the fuel efficiency was with and without the AFM. For my truck, it was worse with AFM active. Highway I can get 21-23 mpg driving around 70-75 mph average, and with AFM active I get around 18-20.
I did this to my truck no regrets. It's a good product. Jose would disable dfm and start stop and make a few other little tweaks and I'm happy
hey thanks for the heads up my friend i bought an 6,2 had two owner and had only 60 clicks maybe this was why then i looked at the 6,2 reviews after watching your video almost pooped my self an kidney with how much people were complain about the 6.2 blown up
Love your videos man. I just bought a 2021 trail boss with the 6.2 clean carfax with 45k on it. I wish I found this video before because I bought the range technology that plugs in to the port that cancels the AFM DFM but that's all it does.
Going through this with mine right now. Owned my 2015 Denali 1500 6.2L just over month. Tough lesson to learn after the fact 😞
What was your trucks mileage when you added the Pulsar? I'm at 12,307 on my 2021 6.2 TB. I'd rather avoid the bent rod issue before it even happens!
@@cableguyzne I had about 8000 miles on my truck when I added it.
I appreciate it 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Wonder if your oil catch can is gonna fill sooner now!? 🤔
Dealer replacing one full bank of lifters since I'm over 8,000 miles (the GM TSB only allows replacing both banks of lifters if the engine has LESS than 8,000 miles on it).
i heard chevy didnt manufacture the lifters that went into the 2020- up and that they bought them from another company
Video starts at 5:20
Have you had any annoying rattles on your passenger side? my 2021 6.2 trail boss has them I ended up taking off front two door panels .
Yeah your videos make me spend money. I didn't even know about this now I need it.
GM took their time about issuing a recall fix for the faulty airbag on my 2011 Silverado but they finally did replace it but it took years.
How ironic. My 2021 Silverado RST is at the dealer for most likely lifters. Only have 4200 miles on her too!
That's cool lonestar. But the original lifters ate still in there and can break at any moment. Then what?
Dude snag that matte black Trail Boss sticker on Amazon. Get rid of that red and white. It will look awesome! Trust a fan
I plan on it!
It definitely runs a lot smoother… but I’m also still in the heavy foot stage of the install. 😁 Hopefully I see a little better MPG soon
Heh I’d imagine there is a courting period after install to get real numbers. Best is 30.8 mpg on the highway in my 6.2. I think it’s a unicorn.
@@mikeflasch2838 you go 55 on the interstate bro? 30.8 is insane. you have the pulsar as well?
@@weshamburg8611 the speed limit is 55 on the highway. Do about 5-7 over the limit, bone stock 2021 crew.
Thank you so much just bought it and installed on 2021 GMC sierra AT4 YOU R THE BEST LOVE IT.😀
I have a 2022 LTZ 5.3. It’s the new digital dash. I heard the pulsar won’t work with the new style! You heard anything?
Long live Jerry! I almost couldn't hit the like button but I did!
Okay I just ordered it. $481.00 not too bad. Came to $516.00 with sales tax, free shipping... I did buy it through the link in the description of your video.
Same here...$512 for mine
@@ChrisDIYerOklahoma now I just have to see if I want to install it in my truck or wait until I get a new one. I might go ahead and install it anyway since it's so quick and easy.
I'm glad my 2013 4.8L doesn't have it. Last year all 8 cylinders fired all the time. No worry about the major issues it causes either.
Same here 2021 LT Trail Boss 5.3
Just curious if you’ve been able to find an answer to your question. I have a 2019 trail boss LT Z71 and I’m wondering the same thing.
So is there a recall on this. It seems like sooner or later every 5.3 will have this problem. What if it happens after my warranty runs out?
I also noticed that you do not have the window vents at all. Is there a reason behind that or just personal preference?
Does anyone know if this has any effect on warranty / extended warranties.?

Just bought a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3L. It doesn’t have auto start/stop currently due to chip shortage. Do you think the DFM is currently disabled as well?
We need help 😢 my chevy cam has been destroyed by a lifter and I'm the 2nd owner...totally broke and no clue what to do....any ideas?
All your videos are GREAT, does the pulsar also change the cutoff top speed?
Will this stop a lifter failure? I’ve already had my 2017 in twice to have lifters and pushrods replaced. I’m disabled and can’t afford this anymore. Please help me figure out away to save my truck.
My 2021 trail boss has never done the auto stop/ start engine. Says it's active but has never done it
It seems you further modified you oil separator tubes with insulation? Can you expound on that? I know you originally wrapped them with tape. Thank you.
Was trying to eliminate the vacuum hissing noise from the catch can. Once I got ~3000 miles on it, the hissing went away.
@@LonestarHawaiian Thanks, great videos, I’ve got a Trailboss ordered. Getting some ideas. Live in Georgetown Tx.
Question? I have been told by James wood chev dealership that installing a cold air intake to my 2021 silverado voids warranty? Any idea on this
I HATE the start stop but my question is, has the mod caused any electronic issues. Also does adding this mod void the Chevy warranty??
What's the car dryer blower u like best after washing. Need a quiet one.
Is the pulsar recommended for the 5.3L trail boss? That doesn’t have auto stop/start?
Can you use a K&N throttle control module with the Pulsar?..I currently have one on my '19 Silverado with a Corsa performance CAI and Sport exhaust system...and I get that helicopter sound on deceleration. I would like to know if the K&N module will conflict with the Pulsar.
Hey u wanna shed those factory black rims from the trail boss
Wished they had this for the 2021 Silverado Duramax 3.0. I hate the Auto start/stop too especially with the crank no start problem.
Where do I find all the steps to do a configuration and be able to activate or not all those features. My auto/stop stops working on hits own.
Would love to see a review of the Diablo sport tuner
Or the super chips tuner
I have a Diablo on my 2014 5.3. It does great
Could the pulsar help with the F*****G LIMP MODE? I’ve changed throttle body, TPS sensor, it’s terrible. 2019 chevy 1500 5.3L which does not have the DFW or whatever it is
For 481 bucks I would expect a tuner to do a HELL of a lot more than simply disabling stop/start and bypassing DFM. DANG! How about 75 bucks...?
Silly question but if you plan to take this in to the shop for any warranty work or maintenance are you just taking this out and re-installing? I ask because I am considering this instead of the AFM/DFM Disabler that goes into the OBD2 port in the cab and will be taking my 21' Sierra 1500 in to get the passenger side lifters replaced (driver side already replaced due to a bent lifter) in a couple of weeks. Appreciate your perspective.
They say that it doesn’t void the warranty of the truck, so there shouldn’t be any reason to take it out and re-install it.
The disabler doesn’t work on the 10 speed trans with the 6.2l engine. Only the Pulsar will work. In case ya didnt know
Been a year, how’d it work out for you? Only computer mod I’ve got so far is a speedometer calibrator for my 35s but even with just that I had one shitty dealer wrote up that my warranty was void (had me fuming!!) I bought my truck brand new and already modified from a huge dealer that sells new lifted trucks so I know I can always drive several hours to them if needed. Not sure how “chipping” the engine would affect the warranty though. I just recently crossed 36000mi on my 2020 but I did buy the extended warranty so I definitely want to know before I risk it.
My lifters failed at 90,000km, luckily I paid for extended warranty without knowing 😅
Maybe I should look into this…
