I knew pretty early my son was gay so when he came out at 16 yrs old I was determined he was going to be a normal teenager , with boyfriends or whatever that entailed. He cried on my shoulder when he had breakups , we ate ice cream when he had boyfriend drama and we went shopping when he gave up on dating . When he met " the one" we sat up the whole night talking. When he got married I walked him into the church and handed him to my beautiful son in law. When will mothers realize that nothing is more important than their children's health and happiness. I have been told he will burn in hell and so will l , fine if that is so I will burn with him. He is more important than any church or promise of an after life.

That's beautiful and it made me tear up. I did not have that experience with my mom as a teen, but we've come a long way since then and yesterday she joined me at the Pride Parade. That meant the world to me. I'm sure you're a wonderful mother and that your son appreciates your love and support. I hope you realize how much hurt and how many scars you have saved him from. Kudos to you!

Bryan is awesome, for one thing, he made it through telling his story without breaking down. I was crying just while I watched.
This is what we need. To be patient. So many grow up entrenched in ideologies you've got to give them time, as painful as it is and as much pain as they may have put you through. I know from personal experience my family and friends and even community are just trying to do the "right" thing. If it isn't how they experience life it's hard for them to understand. We're so lucky to have the internet and be able to connect to the larger lgbtq community and the world is moving towards understanding. It really is. Never give up
My parents and family knew I was gay and never had a problem with it. I have an uncle who's been with his husband for close to 27 years now. One day my mother asked me when did I know I liked boys, I asked when she knew she liked boys. She said I just knew .. I said it's the same with me. After that she asked when can she and my dad meet my boyfriend, I said as soon as I meet him first. She and my now ex-boyfriend are like the best of friends.

They did it to eradicate the practice of Male prostitution in the worship of Yahweh and the other pagan gods the Israelites were worshipping at that time.
Homosexuality was widely accepted around the world during the times of the prophets, and the time of Paul. It's every where in nature.
What we see in the bible is religious and patriarchal bias, for good reasons; however, it created a problem that continues to this day.

Happy for you. I hope your mother gets there sooner than later. My religous parents will never accept me. Fast forward 22 years being with the love of my life honestly its their loss. It used to hurt my partner but now he doesn't care anymore. I came to the realization that they can believe the way they want to. I told them we are not going to talk about it at all. They have honored that. Always live your life as your true self no matter what other people say or do.
what mother, after seeing what the others put you though at that meal, to her own son, could not suddenly have a moment of clarity and reach out to love her own flesh and blood? While you did not deserve to have to be the one to educate your family, it probably took that moment in the 3rd person for your mother to see what you had gone through and the godawful treatment from the intolerant. You are so brave, and your mom too, finally at the point where you can be yourselves with each other Thx Bryan for being yourself...hopefully your father and the others in your family important to you have come around too.

I never really had any closure on my sexuality with my parents. They were just generally a bit uncomfortable about it. Over a decade later, there isn't any normal or comfortable way to discuss anything related to my sexuality. I just don't bother discussing it, and will avoid talking about anything related to it. Feels sad, because I would love to have had fun, drawn out conversations about partners I've had over the years with my parents.
That a whole family can bear down on this intelligent young man and find fault after fault in all the good things he was doing only showed how far below him they were! His initial response to his Mother's scriptural beating of him was perfection. When someone beats you up with scripture, make sure you know the scriptures that THEIR lives are going against and beat them right back! That they're judging you in itself is against scripture!

This pretty much sums up my relationship with my mother at the moment. I am not religious anymore, but growing up in a strongly religious household has awarded me with a huge knowledge on the bible that will shut up any homophobic person - in particular, my mother.
Family doesn't mean blood and blood doesn't mean family.

There is a book titled "The Children are Free: reexamining the Biblical Evidence on Same-sex Relationships by Rev. Jeff Miner and Rev. John Tyler Connoley." The authors go through bible verses and find there are verses that support gay and lesbians.
Rod McKuen would say words similar to the following at the end of every act. "It does not matter who you love or how you love, but that you love. The good is God made manifest and loving is the contribution to that good and to that only God. For in the end the act of loving anyone is the act of loving God."
Actually the "Bible-banging" had an unintended effect on me: It made me question Christianity so deeply that I converted to Judaism! Both openly gay and Jewish 🌈🕎
How do you get through to a person/parent that does not empathize ?
Honestly sometimes you can't I am 50 years old and my religous parents will never accept me and my partner of 22 years. It is their loss. You need to live your life as your true self no matter what people say or do. It can be difficult but it is so worth it. I wish you the best life of love and peace and I hope your parents are more accepting sooner than later.
