Yes, i will be playing as a Qunari. I just decided thats what I wanted to do at some point and I am sticking with it, even though the options for them arent nearly as good as I hoped. Theres still enough there that I think I can make something cool though.
I think I'll try to combine vitaar and skin complexions to make area around the horns and forehead as dark as possible to bring more attention to the face itself. Wish there were more longer braids similar to Taash's tho.

I will say though, despite the limitations and slight jank of the horns connecting to the head, this is so much more appealing to me than what we had in Inquisition.
The new qunari has grown on me. They look more like Iron Bull with the horns being a center feature. I wish the hair options were better/just have more of them tho. And an option for hornless qunari that could use the same hairs as humans/elves/dwarves would have been a happy medium for people who hate the look of the horns.
@@politecat9207 Oh, for sure, Iron Bull looks amazing. I just meant the CC options always put me off from making a Qunari Inquisitor, and this is actually making me consider playing as one now.
As someone who rolled a lady Adaar as my inquisitor, I will say that overall the CC for Qunari is much better this time around. In Inquisition, horns and hair were the same slider, and not all hairstyles were available with each horn style, so you either had to pick the hairstyle you wanted, but horns you were meh about or vice versa. Also, there were only about 5 hairstyles..... So, while I don't love all of the 30 styles now available, it is still a significant improvement. Another thing I love is the horn customization and selection. With the exception of the forehead blending, the horns in this game look great. I love the designs and the customization for the materials. I also love that the horns for lady Qunari are much larger in this game. I remember one of the complaints back in Inquisition among us Qunari fans was how we couldn't have large/thick horns. There was even a mod that corrected that... (Alas, I play Inquistion on Xbox, so no hair or horn mods for me lol) Tbh, the forehead blending with the horns doesn't bother me too much, so I am still leaning towards rolling a Qunari mage again. Though I probably will do an elf playthrough at some point because I love the hairstyle options.
I've planned a Qunari Rook for my main worldstate since I finished the first three games in the series (Elf Warden, Human Hawke, and Dwarf Inky) and, while I am excited to get my hands on the CC, I'm dissapointed that there's no long, flowy curly hair options for the Qunari. But I'm used to hair dissapointment in DA lol, and at least this time I can have fun with hairstyles for my second alt. worldstate playthrough with an elf Rook.
If you look at it from a roleplaying perspective, Qunari Rook could be self-conscious about their large forehead and they try covering it up with hair or face paint or even distract from it by decorating their horns.
It won't be my first playthrough but I am totally running a Qunari LOF slayer to romance Taash. Thanks to you I've got my horns and beard picked out. Still working on the hair and face. Really appreciate the vid.
I always play an elf first, but I will definitely be playing a qunari second. I absolutely enjoy the designs and options available in veilguard. I personally like when a fantasty race is little odd looking. It makes it more fun.
I plan to go qunari my first playthrough because of the novelty of it. my first Inquisitor was a qunari, too. I've played humans, elves, and dwarves countless times in both Origins, Inquisition, and in other fantasy media. I want something unique even if it has less options.
I'm afraid I have to disagree that the DA2 designs of the elves and Qunari were the best. They were ugly as hell. But, we are all entitled to our opinion on what we like. And more power to you in what you believe is the best. Thank you for the thorough work.
The more I see the Qunari the more I'm liking the design. I think they look beautiful. My only complaint is the lack of hairstyles, everything else looks great.
you put my thoughts into words here. I love the qunari and want to play as one SO bad, but they look a little off most times. Eddie made a wonderful looking male qunari, but we shall see. Alas, even though we cannot have DA2 designs, it won't lessen my excitement for Halloween :) thank you for the vid and for thinking of us qunari lovers
It’s a good thing that Veilguard lets us choose which horns and hair style is best for Qunari Rook. Even though I did enjoy Inquisition, the Qunari hairstyle was under the horn option.
Honestly I really love how the qunari look, like seeing the CC kinda sold me on playing as one for my first playthrough! i’ve seen the complaints about foreheads and horns, but tbh i’m not seeing anything weird looking 😭
@@atsuyak768 I’ve played all three games *several* times each, I’m very familiar with how the qunari look in each of the games. They look completely different in each game. I’m not necessarily saying that Veilguard is my *favorite* portrayal, I’m just saying I think they look great and I don’t share the concerns others have. Different strokes!
Thank you for these videos, Kala! I'm hoping to play a qunari on my first run, and was worried about the hair and forehead. I still think it could be better, but given what you've shown I'm pretty confident now I'll be able to make a good looking qunari after all!
I know the Qunari have issues with the forehead and all but I've seen a few Qunari Rooks from other creators and they look fantastic to me, personally. All this discourse reminds me of the Qunari change in Inquisition. EVERYBODY hated the Qunari in Inquisition now all of a sudden people are saying Inquisition Qunari was better?? The styles are different, yes, but both look good in their own ways.
My Inquisitor was a Qunari so it's nice too see the options here. I will have a Qunari Grey Warden playthrough of Rook too. Thanks for showing this Kala .
Excited to try and create a gangly Qunari mage, and while I’m happy they’ve done more to expand the cc, I’m a bit disappointed there aren’t more hair options and that so few of the ones we do have don’t provide more fringe/bangs to fill in some of the dead space that is their foreheads. 30 hair options is great, but if I can only see it from the side in cutscenes then it’s a bit of a miss for me..
I usually play as each race in the Dragon Age games, Just to get a different perspective. Plus, with today's technology in video game creation, the companies are still working out the bugs and learning. But, I prefer to play as an Elf Female mage more than any other race in the series
I’m bummed that you didn’t really go through the vitaar at all. Two of the sliders were at 0 the whole time. That’s one of the things that I have really wanted to see. But hey, I know if I were playing in the cc I wouldn’t be focused much on what other people want to see, I’d be doing whatever I want, lol
Yeah I tried to go through some stuff but I also was so distracted and would have done so mamy different things now that I know how scatter brained I was I'm sorry 😭
When I saw the horn options some days ago, I instantly switched whatever Rook plans I had to Qunari Rook! I'm not bothered by the forehead, but I also wish the horns would transition into skin better. It seems it can be improved with the colours and materials, but indeed it will require a bit of time to make it as we want (which... is not really a problem either for me, I could spend hours there xD). Quite satisfied with the hair too, but honestly for me they're an afterthought, because the horns draw my eyes so much xD Thanks for the video!
I sooo cannot wait to make a Qunari! I have a good idea in my head for my old man warrior Qunari and i think with the options I can make him look good!
Never played Qunari and never will, but the crystals with the horns is pretty cool. I like how there's a silver eye color preset, because my Inquisitor has silver eyes herself.
I've decided my first character will be a male qunari. I was able to make a decent looking one in Inquisition, and after seeing the new character creator I know I can make an amazing one now.
I'm ecstatic that hair and horns can be customized separately! It felt like Inquisition went out of its way to shackle the best horns to the worst hair (and vice versa).
Yeah, not really sold on the qunari. The horn options look awesome, but the hairstyles aren't my favorite. Forehead goes without saying.... I think some design choices were questionable. That said, I only created one in inquisition to see the narrative changes and special dialogue stuff, so I'm not too heartbroken. I am really excited to play as a dwarf for this game though!
My inquisitor was also a Qunari (she's even on my pfp) and when I heard a couple months ago that character creation in Veilguard was going to be amazing, I was very excited about not having to rely on mods. I guess I'll still need them...
Modders will save us, writ hair ... and probably everything else. That said, the vitaar looks so so much better than what Inquisition gave. If I remember most were just weird smudges. I'm still looking forward to playing a qunari, despite the five-head [or is it more of a seven-head] that is part of their faces. i guess ima just have to say my inky permed her hair and went for a big chop or something.
At least there is more hairstyles for Qunari. Sometimes you have to take what you can get. We started the series off with not being able to play as one for the first two games. Then they were available in Inquisition and are back again. Hopefully we see more improvement in the game after.
Still looking forward to playing a Qunari . Even though I don’t like the forehead . And plan to have different character play through. It’s going to be so much fun.
I love the crystal and metal options! A few comments do mirror my own criticisms, though and I’ll just leave it at that. Overall I’m eager to make a cool looking Qunari.
overall seeing all the options for qunari, while i would like there to be more hairstyles (long+bangs would be nice) i think the veilguards cc is going to be able to make some really good look qunari
Looking at the concept art taash was gonna be my number 1 pick for romance. With seeing how taash is different now and with how the qunari actually look, I don't think I'm going to be able to take any of them seriously. I can easily see myself being thrown out of a serious scene because the camera cuts to one of their faces or something lol
Truly hope they update bedore laimching seeing the Qunari backlash!! - Forehead texture! From hornsto the brow. This will chage the ehole 'bald' look to avtually look like Qunari's again! - Hopefully add different horn bases on the head, becease now, they're all the same. - Smaller horns (mainly for female Qunari). Not all have these massive horns -_- - Butt amd b00b slider needs to be 'broadend'. If ypu wanna be inclusive, be actually inclusive of most of your playerbase. Not the 0,2%
I am THRILLED to get my paws on this cc for a Qunari character. I may not agree with all the design changes but so much of it will be so fun to make and play!
The thing about the other races is that the hair options can apply equally to all of them. You talk about options for elves but those are also the same options for humans and dwarves. Qunari as a group seem to have less phenotypic variance compared to humans and are monolithically one culture where as humans have many different cultures, thus providing an in universe justification for less options. Finally the presence of the horns does make it hard to actually pull off bangs.
If I plan to play a Qunari? Honestly, I can't decide on anything from race to gender to class. It's so hard to commit on one of these. I really need to make up my mind before release...
I do plan on playing a Qunari and can't wait to mess around in the character creator. My main Inquisitor was Qunari as well, though I have a feeling I will have a difficult time recreating them
Hey Kala i have a question or am i trippin. I keep seeing a warrior rook wear the gray warden mage outfit in some videos. I thought you can only wear armor from the class you pick. Am i going crazy?
@@kalaelizabeth maybe, cause i'm running shadow dragons warrior for my first playthrough and i'm not that big of a fan of most of the faction heavy armors in this game.
i think you are right, as someone who loves the Qunari i was really scared by what i saw on the videos online, but your video helped ease my fears a bit, the good thing is that they do look like Inquisition Qunari at least so that's a compromise I'll take. My only thing is I always hated that they made their faces look like teiflings from D&D, or just humans with horns, rather than having the more bestial look to them from 2, but that's just personal preference.
I kind of wish there were more Dragon elements to them, apart from just the horns. It's not even canonically known what the Qunari are or how they came to be, but the running theory is that they were either created from dragons or somehow relate to dragons yet they are not very dragon like. I just wish their design has consistency and also hinted at their origins in a way we could pick apart more. oh well, maybe if we get another DA game we'll go to Par Vollen and learn the history of the beasts known as qunari.
@@jungtothehuimang honestly I always hoped back in the day that once we were in tevinter we'd be able to glimpse more closely at the qunari, since they are in constant war with tevinter, plus, Solas hates them so I thought it would have been super cool to visit them, lots of potential for story, unfortunately I'm not writing the game 😂 and I doubt we'll see them at all, I enjoyed them in trespasser for the few hours I saw them. Also there is a ton of info online about them if you want to learn more about the Qun, how they live or their original names.
@@forsakeneremith3770 yeah I feel like the conflict between Tevinter and the Qunari has been hinted at in every single game and many of the non-game media but we've never really seen it. Maybe if we get another game after this, ten years from now, we could actually know about the qunari for once. But idk, I'm not holding my breath. I feel like the qunari are a race that the past devs invented but didn't care much for and that current devs also do not care much for.
My Qunari Mourn Watcher is gonna look sick! (looking at 7+ hours of character creation) If they released the cc just a day earlier and tied it to the deluxe edition they'd sell so much more, a real perk as opposed to the outfits that (IMHO) just look Premium (tm) and nothing else
I’m gonna be playing as a qunari in my first playthrough and was hoping for big long curls more like my own texture, personally, not a bone straight bust down, but it’s still a slay lmao
the faces look really great! also LOVE the hair and beards! thats a gigantic step from the old games!! but what about the body? will you showcase body options too? please?
I appreciate the video, but do wish that you would have used a male Qunari to show off the body paints and tattoos. Most of the designs were covered up by the shirt
my inquisitor was qunari and im kinda nervous about recreating her but i really don't think they're as bad as some people are saying, they just don't look good with the extremely smooth complexions.
as someone who’s planning my da4 qunari character for years, I’m definitely bummed out about the hair options. I got SO excited seeing how many amazing hair options are in veilguard and that I’d be able to recreate my character exactly as I pictured/drew them, just to find out that qunari had less hair options than the other races and they’re all short and barely any curly options. It’s just disappointing :/ I’ll still be playing my qunari, but I’m now worried they’ll be a lot plainer than I had planned
I can understand the idea they had with the horns, like the part that doesn't connect is because there's skin on top of the horns that doesn't mean it looks good though💀
The horn issue I do believe is the biggest flaw of veilguard with Qunari, the forehead issue I feel like already existed with player Qunari back in Inquisition and mostly gets overlooked because people remember Iron Bull who had a completely unique model. I feel if they were to change anything in veilguard aside from maybe some adjustments to make the forehead to horn less obvious and "glued on" feeling would be to either have complexions or some other option add some more "rough" lookin skin on the forehead instead of having it look as fleshy. Also "the original Qunari design was better *posts arishok* " people seem to forget the Qunari were literally just described as Bronze Skin giants in Origins where we see Sten, the race never had any kind of consistent design on them between any of the games imo.
I'm absolutely playing a qunari this time! Compared to the slim pickings of Inquisition, 30 hairstyles that aren't varying shades of bald is enough for me. I'm even a bit excited by the challenge that the qunari models present: the fivehead and their more fantastical skin tones. Ahh, I can't wait to mess around in CC, and to finally play through a Dragon Age game as anything but elf on the first run (disregarding DA2 of course). That said, I kind of wonder if people would use DA2 Qunari as an argument less if the modern qunari had black sclera or something. I feel like that did a lot for their aesthetic in that game, and I definitely used mods to add that for my qunari in Inquisition (along with what few descent hair mods I could find for the poor horny bastards).
I do wish they’d eventually patch in horn options like the ones we saw in DA2 and the DA2 concept art where they’re more to the side with some bihorns. It’s not something they’ve had in CC before but I dont really see how that’s a reason to not have it in or for people to vocalize their desire for them to come down the line in updates.
The Qunari I had planned in my head has a big wavy high ponytail that blends in with their horns, but it’s looking like that won’t be an option. I think I’ll have to keep fancanoning my ideas instead (as usual)
It is a little disappointing there aren’t many long hairstyles for the qunari, I’m planning on making a qunari shadow dragon and really wanna get a hold of the character creator so I can just make it already. I am excited about how many horn option there are despite the forehead thing
Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with the qunaris even with the horns as part of the forehead and I'll def play as one right after I play my main Rook (female dwarf warden in homage to my hero of ferelden
i feel like adding the forehead veins and texture from DAI here would solve every problem with the Qunari CC (and it will probably be the only mod i download for this game lol)
Do we know if there are racial benefits like in inquisition or origins? I saw from your other video that there are benefits for picking each class but what about Qunari Grey Warden's or are Dwarves still resistant to magic? I haven't seen this anywhere and with the class benefits it leaves me doubtful.
Im wondering if qunari will have custom helmet meshes in veilguard. Im planning on making a qunari mage with a grey warden background, and id love to see a classic warden helmet properly fitted around my giant horns
I feel as if I'm the only one that really didnt like the elf designs in dragon age 2 (mostly because of what they did to zevran 😭), but the qunari designs were seriously cool in the 2nd game , I really dont know why they didn't stick with it. If iron bull ever shows up, I'm just really hoping he's not gonna look cursed and smooth as hell
Is vitaar only going to be available during CC, not as loot? There doesn't seem to be many options for styles, unlike in Inquisition... Also going to be weird to need both Vitaar and a helmet. Since vitaar is supposed to be as good as one xD
I plan to play as a Qunari as I did in Inquisition. I'm not impressed with the design in Veilguard compared with Inquisiton though. I'm really going to have to take my time with this character creator.
I think the customizations for qunari are a big step in the right direction, but I'm still a little bummed about the lack of long hair options, as well as bangs to hide that big ol' fivehead. I got excited when I saw all the super long and super curly styles available for the other races. :(
My first Rook was going to be Qunari because of the lore implications dealing with Tevinter and Antiva. But I’m not confident I can make what I want in this CC. I’ll try, but it’s likely I’ll have to wait for mods to give better options.
Only thing I'll say critically is that I wish there was a slider to stretch the horn structure into the forhead to wherever the user desired. I mean, the Qunari inquisitor wasn't the best thing ever... but Iron Bull's design though, that was supreme.
After watching so many CC videos and looking at the qunari. It’s kinda growing on me now anyway.
This looks great, but having no hornless options is wild
I love the horn options
Compare them to the older DA games
@@atsuyak768 I’ve played all three games *several* times each, I’m very familiar with how the qunari look in each of the games. They look completely different in each game. I’m not necessarily saying that Veilguard is my *favorite* portrayal, I’m just saying I think they look great and I don’t share the concerns others have. Different strokes!
Whelp, might have to hold off on a qunari until some appearance mods hit the game for pc.
Yeah, cant do this lord Farquad base. These Quinari look like they get bullied.
This is look amazing. Qunari look absolutely amazing!
Anybody that says they like Inquisition qunari more are posers or played with mods for so long they don't remember the terrible truth, lol
The way all hype left me the moment I saw the hair options for Qunari. Much like Inquisition I'll be forgetting this game.
My Inquisitor was a Qunari so it's nice too see the options here. I will have a Qunari Grey Warden playthrough of Rook too.
Thanks for showing this Kala .
Do the people who prefer da2 qunari realize they all looked identical?
We are here on RUclips where we can clearly see that DA2 Quinari *DO NOT* look like they are from the Shrek universe.
Honestly? I'm already getting used to the forehead thing. I don't think it'll negatively impact playing a qunari for me.
Finally part two.
I see 3 hairstyles that have what I would call bangs. I'm really excited to play a qunari again.
Quite satisfied with the hair too, but honestly for me they're an afterthought, because the horns draw my eyes so much xD
Thanks for the video!
5:40 i'll have to disagree with you. DA2 elves were horrible to look at. I am happy with their appearance in Veilguard.
Is there a male Qunari video anywhere showing all the character creator options?
Going to have a dark grey qunari male with the longest white hair, he's gonna look so majestic
overall seeing all the options for qunari, while i would like there to be more hairstyles (long+bangs would be nice) i think the veilguards cc is going to be able to make some really good look qunari
Looking at the concept art taash was gonna be my number 1 pick for romance. With seeing how taash is different now and with how the qunari actually look, I don't think I'm going to be able to take any of them seriously.
I can easily see myself being thrown out of a serious scene because the camera cuts to one of their faces or something lol
same
Yeah she was an attractive and feminine rogue.
Not all have these massive horns -_-
- Butt amd b00b slider needs to be 'broadend'.
I won't play one on my first playthrough, but I will definitely try my hand at one for my second run 😊
If I plan to play a Qunari? Honestly, I can't decide on anything from race to gender to class. It's so hard to commit on one of these. I really need to make up my mind before release...
Man, that's balls! I was hoping for long hair options, and with bangs 😢 I was planning on creating Qwyndion in Veilguard, but guess not.
My canon Inquisitor (still pending its official status im lying.) is a Qunari Knightenchanter VERY excited to see the transition to this new cc.
I wonder if it's transmog option? The glamours
(looking at 7+ hours of character creation)
If they released the cc just a day earlier and tied it to the deluxe edition they'd sell so much more, a real perk as opposed to the outfits that (IMHO) just look Premium (tm) and nothing else
I’m gonna be playing as a qunari in my first playthrough and was hoping for big long curls more like my own texture, personally, not a bone straight bust down, but it’s still a slay lmao
im happy to see so many eyebrow options, a lot of the inquisitions eyebrows were rough.
the faces look really great! also LOVE the hair and beards! thats a gigantic step from the old games!! but what about the body? will you showcase body options too? please?
They're in part 1!
@@kalaelizabeth i meant more in depth than what i saw there but thanks for the response!
I'm so looking forward to playing as qunari Rook. My Inquisitor Adaar would be proud.
as someone who’s planning my da4 qunari character for years, I’m definitely bummed out about the hair options.
Would you happen to know if you can keep vitaar on in casual clothes? Some of them looked really good.
I see the horns look a lot better when they're darker at the base. But damn i was hoping the sclera colour slider would let you make them black.
Part of me is hoping for a long braid option with bangs for Qunari to be added at some point, but i know it won't happen lol
Im going to do everything I can to make Qunari work as a Qun Stan 😂 I will report back my findings
Human Rogue - Billiam Tavish
Elf mage - Kalador
Dwarf Warrior - Kade Ironhearth
My 3 playthroughs lol
I feel as if I'm the only one that really didnt like the elf designs in dragon age 2 (mostly because of what they did to zevran 😭), but the qunari designs were seriously cool in the 2nd game , I really dont know why they didn't stick with it. If iron bull ever shows up, I'm just really hoping he's not gonna look cursed and smooth as hell
"only 30" is crazy considering we had TWO in inquisition
Is vitaar only going to be available during CC, not as loot? There doesn't seem to be many options for styles, unlike in Inquisition... Also going to be weird to need both Vitaar and a helmet. Since vitaar is supposed to be as good as one xD
I plan to play as a Qunari as I did in Inquisition. I'm not impressed with the design in Veilguard compared with Inquisiton though. I'm really going to have to take my time with this character creator.
I understand that they maybe couldn't make all the hairstyles work with the horns, but its a shame we couldn't get more long hairstyles.
