Everything else about the game looks pretty good, it's such a shame they whiffed this hard on the art style.
i think the shortness would be fine if they had longer necks/smaller heads-i like that elves seem shorter than humans again but the head needs to be downsized
It's because of the Head-to-Body proportions (amongst other things). For an adult human being your body is approximately 8 times as tall as your head is (as in if you're 180 cm tall, your head is 18 cm). If you lessen that (which they've done for this game) the characters look disproportionally short and stocky, almost childish. I personally hate it.

This is exactly what I was hoping for with the Character Creator and the backstories. This is a blessing. Thank you so much for sharing this with us, Kala! P.S. I'm sorry to hear some of your footage got lost. I know that's such a bummer. 🙌🏾😆🎉❤️
Thank you so much for giving us all the backstories and finally some preview of the warrior reaper! Been dying for weeks trying to decide what my rook will be based off this info and I think all the cool options have just made that choice harder!
Alright, fair, but why is every single backstory identical? Quite literally all of them are "Rook is in a dangerous situations, disobeys orders and takes an enormous risk, putting a lot of lives in danger but luckily prevails, instead saving lives. Unfortunately, there were other dire consequences that the leadership is very unhappy about, and Rook has to quit their faction for the time being." Feels a little... I dunno. Very formulaic "young rebel knows better, tries to break tradition/disobeys the elders to do the right thing, and succeeds big time, but we'll also show it wasn't all perfect and things the rebel didn't take into consideration, to maybe suggest traditions and the chain of command have a point too - just not too much, this is still about young vs old."
I agree that they're too similar, and formulaic as you said. The upside is that they set the player up to chart their own journey, as being sidelined could prompt the character to do extra good to prove themselves, take some time to do other things without changing much in terms of morality, or produce resentment and a trip down a darker path. But yeah, I wish there was more variation, or racial variant options.
@@benbaker5440 We have yet to see, but yeah I was hoping for some more options per race specifically. The Inquisition backstories were more rigid and set in stone, but because of that they were quite different and race-specific. The elven and human families coming up in table missions and conversation, and also mages getting a different one too. I always found it interesting. Lavellan inquisitor talking about how dalish clans have only one mage in them, who has one apprentice, and if any others are born either go to a clan in need of an apprentice or get abandoned to fend for themselves - and facing how they might've been privileged by being an apprentice, and not being in a position to simply judge human circles - was super interesting. I wonder if there will be some additional small options, at least. Something simpler like choosing if your elven Rook is dalish or city born, or if your qunari is perhaps Tal-Vashoth, Vashoth, or qun-following even.
I was so worried about Qunari looking hella weird because of the two we've seen so far but this video definitely helped dispel those worries. That Qunari Rook you messed around with looks so good! Being able to change the horns' material and even crystal is so cool!! My Inquisitor Adaar is gonna look absolutely perfect!!
Love this spoiler free deep dive on the Character Creator. So hyped for this game. I’m on a personal embargo on Dragon Age videos from now until launch…except yours! I know what we will all be doing on Halloween!
@@Fankas2000 Ah, the ol' coordinated troll farm talking points. Which are hilarious to me, because I think the characters (and game) look stunning. Looking forward to beating Elgar'nan's ass ... as well as looking forward to romancing *every* character. Though, admittedly, hot wings Lucanis will be first. But, mostly, I'm looking forward to the mass amounts of lore drops. Even while playing DAO last night, and noticing the numerous makeshift Elgarn'an statues that the darkspawn erected (esp. if you play a Dalish origin) ... I got more excited given that what we've heard already helps explains why that was the case. Soooo much lore! So, go take your trolling self to a corner and cry. I'm too busy being excited for your shenanigans.
@@virginiamurr3703 Pfff... I think the only person trolling here is you. That or your sense of style is well, just bad. All of the characters look like they are from the Sims 3.
I'm a little disappointed with the backstories. They're all basically Rook being a selfless hero who defies authority. I knew this Dragon Age would be more linear than the others, but I didn't expect Bioware to guide our morals so heavily. I hope that throughout the game we'll be able to choose paths that are less "big-hearted hero". I just came out of the last expansion of Final Fantasy XIV wanting to vomit rainbows.
I saw in one of the videos reviewing having Rook threatening a character quite openly to get the character to do something for them 🤔 So I think it might be like Shepard with the “intention heroic, execution depending on your choice”?
Likewise. The moral greyness of the heroes is part of what makes the previous three installments of the Dragon Age games so compelling to me. Hopefully the events of this game will allow for opportunities to mold a character in more ways than just the obvious, generic "good guy" without any moral complexity or depth.
I’m really liking the character creator! I have a note though: I don’t like that the backstory chooses the last name. An elf and a dwarf wouldn’t have the same last name. Also, I love that we can change our hair! It’s fun to see time moving forward
it's actually historically very common for your profession to decide your last name, but I do understand what you are saying. I kind of wish the last name was race specific again the way it is in DAO and DAI.
I wonder if perhaps a reason why that is, is because Rook was in a sense adopted by the faction and given the name. Instead of say like Origins, where they were born and raised with a family that has a name based on race and origin.
@@Ashbrash1998 that makes sense, honestly I am not too bothered by it. thinking about it now it kind of just makes sense to have it be factions based since any race can be any faction. makes me wonder how much rooks past will matter though?
Good Gods the hairstyles look amazing. Thank the Maker for the awesome hair asethetics. Bioware have truly gone above and beyond with the character creation. I am so hyped for the game.
Thank you! You managed to capture so many details. I'll be playing as a qunari for my first playthrough, and at least from what I've seen I should be able to make one that appeals to me. I believe the by now infamous smooth foreheads can more or less be mitigated with tattoos and/or vitaar face paint later. Hopefully BioWare will patch in some options for more texture around the horns and forehead later, because I think that's the thing most people reacted negatively to. Love to see all the colour options btw! It looks miles better than previous games, so thank you for showing them off!
I like the backstories it gives a strong feeling we are going to have our own personal story to explore, also i hope to e have faction locked skills,ie morne warch only necromantic spells,or something like corpse explosion for rogue or summoning spell to boost defences for warrior.

From all the things bg3 did right, the CC is not its strong point. Like ookami said, the community carries the player character customization side of things. For once I think the Veilguard will be a game that won't need any appearance mods and that's awesome, maybe some armor mods or outfits like Morrigan's, but that will probably be it. I'm so happy!!
@ChronicaErys yeah, there are others with more options, but it's just a personal favourite. Lots of people will tell you that they spent a long time in that CC. That being said, this looks like it'll put it to shame..lol.
I'm just happy that we are able to customize the horns and hair separately on qunari characters. I was admittedly worried that part would turn out to be a lie. Glad to be proven wrong!
I love customizing characters in games and the amount of detail you can do in this one is amazing to me! Definitely considering buying this when it drops.
I hope we get some roleplaying opportunities to characterize our motivations for our various backstory acts of defiance, and how we feel about being essentially snubbed right now. Other than that, the character creation process looks excellent.
This CC really looks like a game changer! I love how you can create such unique characters now. Makes it feel like every choice tells a story, ya know? 🌟 And I'm so here for the hairstyles! Can't wait to see what other surprises are in store! 🎮✨

The CC looks AMAZING! One of the best if not THE BEST I've seen in any game so far! I'm kinda disappointed that we don't get to play and adjust our backstory like Origins. It was one of the main strengths of the first game for me. Also they all kinda sound the same, Rook does some heroic acts that makes her unpopular with her higher ups.
I guess Rook needs an initial reason why they're hanging out with Varric and Harding to begin with, rather than doing stuff with their faction. They've evidently gone with a generalised "you're lying low for a bit due to some heat over your latest mission".
@@thomasjoychild4962 Yeah I get that, it was kinda like that in Origins too; by the end of each origins mission you HAD to join the wardens whether you liked it or not. But there were still little choices along the way that helped you shape your warden's personality and in some cases you could see the effects of your choices later on. Like did you kill the arl's son in city elf origin or did you make a deal with him or did you help Jowan or ratted him in mage origins. These choices didn't change much in the main flow of the story but like I said helped you shape your character's personality better.
It looks better than the character creation, then the sims 4. I am gonna enjoy it this character creation. I have so many ideas i can do with this character creation. Im so excited.

Yeah, the height thing bothers me. Im glad the hair issue has been addressed. I love that i van customize the weight. The elves looked so stick figured like in Inquisition. Also, the elvish ears are too exaggerated. I dont want to be called a knife ear. Im definitely going to tone that down. This isnt WoW.
This is absolutely beautiful 😍 the options are incredible. Personally I'm a lover of the selfless hero narrative and its how i tend to play anyway so i dont mind the backgrounds being similar. I'm really quite excited, it still feels so far away though 😂

The CC does look promising but I'll reserve judgement until I get my hands on it and see how well I can make a black character. That aside the faction backstories all sound great but the one I was most looking forward to, the Lord's of Fortune, seems the most lackluster comparatively. I mean, all of them have this hint of a rebellious nature but the other factions have a real grandiose backstory where they do something epic or heroic...and the Lord's of Fortune is "you killed a corrupt noble, and now some Rivani nobles are throwing a tantrum".
The "inclusivity" is off the charts here, so I'm guessing there will be good options, well unless you want to give your female char. boobs/ass, that's not allowed. 😂
Very happy seeing all the positive feedback over the character creator here on Kala's video and across multiple other videos but i am avoiding watching most of them. Want to discover those things in the game. 😊

This is exactly what I was hoping for with the Character Creator and the backstories. This is a blessing. Thank you so much for sharing this with us, Kala!
P.S. I'm sorry to hear some of your footage got lost. I know that's such a bummer.
🙌🏾😆🎉❤️
No way this is a dragon age game the hair looks majestic wtf?
Somebody at Maybelline worked on the hair lol
@@Ashbrash1998They certainly weren’t born with it 😂😂
Looks like i will be in CC for hours because we got to create Rook and the Inquisitor. I love it ❤
I can't tell you how much the fact that you made a Qunari with a decent looking forehead gives me so much hope for this game lmao
Yea they NEED smaller foreheads to look right
Thank you so much for giving us all the backstories and finally some preview of the warrior reaper!
Unfortunately, there were other dire consequences that the leadership is very unhappy about, and Rook has to quit their faction for the time being."
Feels a little...
I'm pretty sure they're all like that to explain why rook is not with them when he meets varric
@@AlexWaffalso we're more open to role playing since it was more vague
Also they all see like good guys. Might be a problem if you want to play as an asshole.
Holy moly - the CC is equally as good as they've hyped it to be. Thank you so much for all of this!
It's far beyond the call of duty.
@@virginiamurr3703 Holy Moly... INDEED! 🥰🙌🏾🎉
The character still look like they are made out of rubber. The entire game has the aesthetic of a mobile game.
This was perfect! Thanks for showing everything about the factions!
I think its because 90% of the time Rook is adopted
I wonder if perhaps a reason why that is, is because Rook was in a sense adopted by the faction and given the name. Instead of say like Origins, where they were born and raised with a family that has a name based on race and origin.
@@Ashbrash1998 that makes sense, honestly I am not too bothered by it. thinking about it now it kind of just makes sense to have it be factions based since any race can be any faction. makes me wonder how much rooks past will matter though?
@@pinkplasticlag you're more annoying
Good Gods the hairstyles look amazing. Thank the Maker for the awesome hair asethetics. Bioware have truly gone above and beyond with the character creation. I am so hyped for the game.
I am so happyyyy this looks amazing
I'm so stupidly excited for the glitter ✨️
About time the Dragon Age: The Veilguard Character Creator can finally be shown! Thanks heaps for showcasing the CC, Kala!
I OPENED AND SAW DWARVES!!!! Kalaaaaaaaaaaaa you know what MY SPIRIT NEEEEEEEDSSSSSSS 🥹🥹🥹
I like the backstories it gives a strong feeling we are going to have our own personal story to explore, also i hope to e have faction locked skills,ie morne warch only necromantic spells,or something like corpse explosion for rogue or summoning spell to boost defences for warrior.
SO excited to finally have great hair in a Dragon Age game!!
@@pence089 Okay buddy👍
@pence089 Are you one of those who pretends that dragon age origins wasn’t full of quips and jokes, or are you gonna cry about it suddenly being “woke”?
This is the last thing I needed to see. I feel like I'll hardly get into actual gameplay the first day just spending the whole time in CC. This looks fantastic.
Same 😭 luckily we can make adjustments at any time at the lighthouse so there’s less pressure than in Inquisition
It looks so amazing. I’m so excited!!
DWARF ROOK LOOKS SO CUTE
I love the character creator and the backgrounds. And i love how much choices for hairstyle are there. ^_^
I'm also here to spread some positive energy.
Looks amazing, can legit make any type of character we want. Beautiful, average, or a hideous monstrosity.
Its so exciting to see how in-depth they went in this, I'm gonna spend hours creating my characters
For real. This is so detailed. I'd say about an hr n a half to 2 hrs for me maybe lol
I am going to be in that character creator for 3 days 😭😭😭
God, yes, this CC is far better than it needs to be.
@@jungtothehuimang And by the time you get into the game you come to realize "oh shoot I forgot something" lol but end changing more aspects of your character lol
@@silentrell875 good thing we can customize them again at any time 😭😭😭
That long curly hair rendered an involuntary squeak out of me. This CC will rival BG3 for me.
I made the same squeak!
BG3's CC only lets you choose out of six preset faces...it's one of the weakest points of BG3 imo.
@@ookami-chan3328I’ll have to agree, mods really carry BG3 CC
Great times ahead! Thank you for giving us more details. I wish they'd release the CC soon.
Thank you for taking the time to go through all of the backgrounds. I think I may have FINALLY settled on Shadow Dragon for my first character.
KALA, OUR HERO! I LOVE YOU FOR THIS! 🤩
I really like the CC! I was impressed with the options in Dragon's Dogma 2, but I like this one even better. I'm so excited! Of course I already preordered it. 😁
This looks so damn good. Backstory short stories remind me so much of ME1.
Absolutely thank you for this. THIS is what I've been wanting to see
I cannot wait to spend hours in this character creator!!! I’m so hyped for Veilguard!!
It looks better than the character creation, then the sims 4. I am gonna enjoy it this character creation. I have so many ideas i can do with this character creation. Im so excited.
This is the best video I have seen about the CC, honestly I was afraid of makin a Qunari because of the big forehead but seeing yours made me feel at ease
I’m gonna be LIVING in this character creator!!! Especially trying to fix the massive foreheads the Qunari have cause I love playing Qunari 😭
OMG THE CUSTOMAZTION IS SO GOOD!! thats so amazing I cant wait!
I have my own rooks
A qunari male warrior member of the grey wardens
A dwarf male warrior of the lords of fortune
An elf female rogue for the Veil Jumpers
And at last, a huma male mage and a shadow dragon
this looks amazing! i can't wait to customize my rook!! thank you for such a detailed video
Just wanted to say as a side note but your voice is buttery smooth!
And thanks for the full cc, been waiting for this and it looks hype!
I really hope they release the character creator early so I can be ready for when the game comes out. I’m gonna spend HOURS on it… lol
This was awesome! Thanks for the insight, I'm excited to have a little more insight into what our backgrounds will be like
OMG I NEED THIS GAME for like yesterday
so so exciting to see the character creator!!! really appreciate the quick overview of everything (i got to watch it all on my lunchbreak 🤭)
The hair looks so good! But somehow the bodies look so… boxy? Or is it just me? Will it be possible to create an elven Rook with a bodytype of the female elves in Inquisition? I loved that look…
The fact that Harding (my favorite ginger dwarf!😍🥰) is FINALLY romancable, makes it the canon romance for me. I dont mind the action combat either. Just hope theres some nice post game content or NG+ etc. I just pre ordered the "rooks coffer edition" with the physical copy on ps5 from gamestop Canada. This game is my main focus and game of the rest of 2024. October 31st cant come soon enough!!! 😭🙏
Completely agree that everyone is too short, just watching this video it was really noticeable. Maybe it's not so noticeable in game? The hair seems amazing, I am sad no familiar hairstyles (but updated) from previous games.
My only gripe with this game is it looks like there’s a blur filter over the characters at all times? Like I can’t explain it but something looks off
For me, the qunari forehead looks blurred, and the face looks like its been taped on
OMG I can have green hair! YES!😅
Also, your Rook is gorgeous!
It all looks amazing, and I appreciate you showing this and what we can do, I'll spend a few hours making my character for sure.
the CC looks so good omggggg
I may or may not have watched this several times getting more and more excited for the Veilguard ❤🎉
This is absolutely awesome!
I really hope they release this early, it's gonna be a joy to spend hours doing this
I appreciate you so much. I can’t wait to play this😫
Little baby me used to pray for days like these. This is incredibly detailed in a way I could never have imagine. THE HAIR!!! The body sliders! I love it. I am so sold, say less and take my money Bioware. I could not be more impressed.
Thank you for this! Time to start planning my Rook!
Thank you. The customization options look detailed and incredible. Also love that they have topless nudity visuals in the creator itself. lol
I'm so happy to have you back
It's gonna be hours until I will decide on a look for the first playthrough lol
Yeah, the height thing bothers me. Im glad the hair issue has been addressed. I love that i van customize the weight. The elves looked so stick figured like in Inquisition. Also, the elvish ears are too exaggerated. I dont want to be called a knife ear. Im definitely going to tone that down. This isnt WoW.
...Mourn watch has the coolest back story.
This is absolutely beautiful 😍 the options are incredible. Personally I'm a lover of the selfless hero narrative and its how i tend to play anyway so i dont mind the backgrounds being similar. I'm really quite excited, it still feels so far away though 😂
Ngl this looks like the best cc BioWare has put out. I’m excited
Very comprehensive. Many sliders I will have fun with. Some for sure will not be needed. But in the end it is a vast improvement for most people. RPGs need a solid CC.
Kala is one of the best content creators when it comes to Bioware upcoming games. Thank you so much Kala.
I ask my fellow viewers to show Kala a little gratitude and love by subscribing.
No, I don't know her or am I paid. I just simply can't believe she only has 22k subscribers. She deserves more.
Cheers all
This looks soooooooooo good. Have to rewatch it asp 🙂
Honestly I haven't pre ordered an EA or BW game in a loooooong time but this char creator alone is enough to make me reconsider pre ordering.
This CC is better then I imagined. Probably going too spend at least 1 hour making my Rook. Then we got our Inquisitor too that's at least another hour. Glad I pre ordered this.
10 hrs in CC here I come. Glad I got a week off of work
Yes! Ive been waiting for this omg 😁😁😁
Oh well I know where my first 10 hours of the game will go
Thanks for this video, Kala! I think this will help me spend less time in the character creator when the game comes out lol.
I'm loving all these choices!
I'm sufficiently HYPED
Such a great overview! Thanks so much!
Well, here's to spending days in the CC before I even get to the prologue :D
