    Legacy bands still headlining shows is a symptom of the death of the monoculture. The last time we all listened to the same stuff was when everyone still listened to the radio, so the bands that were big then are still the ones headlining shows. Rock/metal is more affected by this than other genres because everyone gets sucked into their own subgenre bubble and is oblivious to everything else. Remember - Spiritbox and Falling in Reverse both opened for Papa Roach on tour last year.

      I think the true reason older bands don't hang it up is because of the lack of competition from modern rock and metal bands. You don't actually get a choice to headline massive tours if a young Metallica, Pantera, Iron Maiden etc knocks you out of the slot.

    • @RafitoOoO
      @RafitoOoO 6 месяцев назад +18

      @@CIRCLEOFTONEit's not there isn't competition, it's just that bands don't have the same reach anymore. Guys like Spiritbox, Bad Omens, Sleep Token got massive in the past few years and they still pale in comparison to bands like Metallica or Guns n' Roses. Rock isn't mainstream anymore, normies don't even know who these bands are, but they know who Metallica is.

    I'm tired of people accusing bands of doing cash grab shit. It's their job, the point is to make money. Also in this day and age, if you're not actively grabbing cash, you go poor. Period.
    Also, I agree with the chicken sandwich thing. The first time I tried Popeye's Chicken sandwich, I completely understood all of those news stories about people getting stabbed over them. Would I stab someone over it? No, but if someone stabbed me I'd be like "Ahhh I got stabbed! But I get it bro, enjoy it.. for me.. hrrerk..."

      I’m conflicted about the commercial aspect of music. From an artistic standpoint, I think it can lead to some really shallow and disingenuous music when the motivation is only making money, but like you said, there is a career component to it. I don’t think it always has to be one or the other. Many legacy bands still manage to put out decent, if not amazing, music in there later years, so I think there’s a balance to be found

    Legacy bands are getting better. Usually legacy acts would suck, but look at Geen Day, Korn, Slipknot, Blink. It's not the best material. But at least waaay better than expected. And they can still make pure bangers! For 20 years ago, a band that would be considered legacy act would suck.

Since the modern music world is so different and most people statistically are stuck listening to old music it really pushes a culture of digging up good music from the past and not the current day which kills many smaller and equally talented bands. I respectfully disagree with the title of this video. Any band, imo, should be able to stay at the top as long as they are still putting out new, quality:inspired material. AC/DC released a banger album a couple years ago. Maiden’s new stuff is some of their best. Judas Prieat just released what many fans consider to be their 2nd or 3rd best album. Metallica’s latest album is a good one. Having said that, when a band just coasts on the old stuff (or the new stuff is recycled crap), I agree it’s time to hang it up. Bands like Motley Crue fit into the hang it up category for me.

    Yeah when it comes to Juggalos I remember seeing Social Distortion in Denver decade or more ago and there was a Insane Clown Posse show up the street on Colfax and Mike Ness was talking about back in the day when punk rock was dangerous and colored hair and the normal atypical speech he gives about supposedly growing up in the scene and in the same breath started talking s*** about Juggalos and Insane Clown Posse and it kind of occurred to me then that maybe many punk rockers specially someone like the above mentioned is a bit of a poser or a bit narrow mined maybe. I don't like Juggalos or Insane Clown Posse but I think it's great they found themselves

    The backlash agaisnt DJ's and Radio that started in the 2000's really came to a head in the 2010's and we're paying the price for that when iy comes to quality of mainstream music. The argument that they were gatekeeping is completely valid, but without anyone filtering the thousands of songs released every day we've ended up in a situation where the only music we're getting is legacy groups and tiktok music.

    Those kind of bands don't retire, we'll just have to wait for them to die of old age. I was attending a swedish rock festival this week and they just won't give up on those bands. They had Alice Cooper as a headline, last year I think it was Deep Purple. But this year they also booked Electric Callboy and Parkway Drive and I saw a lot of 50-60 year olds having the best time listening to those. So the times are slowy changing for the better.

There are too many acts out for a cash grab. I wish I would have seen some of these bands in their prime, and I can't justify the money for travel, seating to hear lots of talking to the audience, poor vocals and lackluster stage presence.

    There should be a mandatory cut-off age of how long a band plays before they ultimately get moved to a different kind of concert venue. Not necessarily the age of the band members themselves (you could be a fairly new band and have members spanning decades in age), but if the band themselves has been around for over 30 years, move them to cruise ships, resort festivals and legions.
    Or, i'll extend an olive branch: venues need to be required to drop the ticket price to under $50 if the band has been around $30 or older. A $300 ticket for a band past their prime is highway robbery.

    I’m OK with legacy bands. What I’m really sick of is this trend of shows where bands just play their most popular album start to finish. Part of the excitement of going to a show was always wondering what song the band was going to play next and then being surprised when they finally played your favorite. So many bands are doing this album format show now that that spontaneity and excitement is almost entirely gone
