The amount of different roles Nina plays in VD is amazing and she plays each character perfectly. Julie Plec said she was amazed at how talented Nina is....
"I'll be the safest psychotic bitch in town" has gotta be the BEST comeback in the whole show. 2x09 is just such a strong episode, a standout in both the season and the series as a whole.

“Fight, Flight, and Freeze” are the 3 most common responses in emergency. “Katerina” as Elijah calls hers, does the first 2. Her only and main instinct is to survive. Honestly thought I respect her, that girl had kept HERSELF alive for over 500 Years. Herself. Having to use her resources and her vampirism. She made being a vampire look so cool.

To hide and survive while being chased she changed her name to Katherine Pierce; same initials.

Nina nailed her role as Katherine and Elena but she enjoyed the Katherine role more.

Most people enjoyed Katherine. Me personally, I never understood the hate for Elena. I feel like the writers purposely gave her some of the dumbest lines sometimes, like out of everyone … no one has ever sound as dumb as Elena sometimes did but I liked that about her. She felt like a normal average casual person/teen that is learning as life goes on. Like at times someone like Stefan would say “I can’t control myself, that blood is taken over me” or something like that & she would say “no, no, I don’t believe that” then Stefan would say “you have to turn away & never come back, I’m dangerous right now” & she’d say “no” at things that doesn’t call for a yes or no. But it was most likely a creative choice the way they made her speak. I liked that about her though cause she felt real. It was realistic compared to characters that know everything, that are omniscient for us the viewers to not get upset at them
I honestly LOVE KATHERINE. She was of this shows most well written characters. When you look at the life she’s lived… exiled from her home in (Bulgaria) after having a child out of wedlock, then ends up having to run away from Klaus, who then has her entire family killed….. she’s had to put up that tough skin for pure and utter survival. Yes, she wasn’t born that way, life turned her into who she is…. I love when the show reminds us of that.
The show just gets better and better every episode, can't wait for the next reaction!

Can't wait till you guys watch the next episode... and wait till you meet Klaus... he's truly a love/hate character. I've watched TVD even more times than I watched the Beatle movies when I was a kid and I was 10 when they landed in the US. Beatlemaniac at age 10 and VTD-maniac at age 70. 😂
Katherine chose to become a Vampire before she knew her family were wiped out. Manipulative, selfish & self serving from the beginning by selling out the people who sheltered her. Her line to Trevor & Rose “Better you die than I” was always in her & a recurring theme throughout. She had a terrible start in life for sure but she always chose herself before all others. Pretty much the polar opposite to the modern day Doppelgänger.
that's how she is. if you've watched the whole series, you know that only once did she choose someone else before herself, and that happened at the last moment. 😢

Saying Katherine must have had a bit of a manipulative person before being a vampire.
I say watch Elena. They both a way of being able to read people and there seems to be this thing about Elena that makes people like her. Maybe that's their natural superpower as dopplegangers? We will get into this fan theory as the story gets more expanded.

Regarding Katherine, I think it's a bit of a grey situation. There's a lot of things implying that she indeed already had a manipulatrive streak in her, but maybe not to the extent she does nowadays. Lots of people manipulate others to get what they want, without necessarily being the most terrible person ever. For example, Elena did in fact "manipulate" Damon to get an information that she needed, which Damon described as her showing that she shares a lot more than just her looks with Katherine. But obviously lots of people would agree Elena "is a good person", or at the very least that's the narrative the show wants to have (regardless of if they're succesful at writing it or not). So while Katherine might have been manipulative, we don't really know to which extent.
It's also worth noting that while we do get a glimpse of Katherine "as a human"/pre-vampire and therefore we could assume "Oh so this is how she was before turning into a vampire - not too much of a difference, look at how she manipulated Rose and Trevor", it is *after* Katherine has already been *exiled* completely by her entire family for having a child out of wedlock, being chased out of Bulgaria all the way to England where she had to adapt to a new culture, new language, new people, and having to fend for herself alone as essentially as a 15-16 yo teenaged girl. You're bound to develop a manipulative nature in those circumstances - that's the only way to survive.
