I have owned both and prefer the PM2. Better quality control, nice broad full flat grind, great ergonomics, no springs in the locking mechanism that can fail, nice grippy g10, recessed full length steel liners on all models and a press fit lanyard tube that indexes the liners perfectly for a consistently smooth pivot and centered blade. the S110V PM2 I have at 28° inclusive Is a really wicked slicer and is my main EDC.
@@appalachiangunman9589 so it’s been 5 months. How is it? Do you like it more than your benchmades? I’m on the fence rn and can’t decide between the griptilian, freek, or PM2
@@ksimpson2804 I think I like it better than the Benchmades. The thumb hole on the Spyderco isn’t the prettiest thing but it is once you start using it, I also love the compression lock. Another thing I like better is the thin tip. My particular Benchmade that I have has kind of a blunt tip and it’s not the best for piercing tasks. The PM2 with its thin taper and full-flat grind give it a tip that’s great for piercing.
These are two of the best knives at their price-point on the market. I own both of them (and many others) but consider the utility from several angles. For overall utility, the Paramiltary 2 can't be beat. it is a very tough knife. I consider it a workhorse for the blade strenth and edge retention. However, it is a little too bulky for my comfort as a pocket too. The Benchmade Griptillian, on the other hand, is a much better EDC, in my opinion. It feels more comfortable in the hand, opens quickly with a flick, and can handle reasonably descent levels of every day chores. Both locks work very well. I like the Spyderco spine lock and feel that it is a bit superior to the Griptillian for really tough tasks that put a lot of stress on the lock mechanism. The Griptillian affords very quick deployment and it hasn't failed me yet. However, I'm not sure I would rely on it for high stress pressures in work situations. I love both knives, but my choicein which knife I would choose on a given day is more based on what I will be doing with it at the time.
I would buy the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 because: 1. Full flat grind cutting edge. 2. More ergonomic. 3. Compression lock system. 4. More options in steel and handle configurations.
I think the Benchmade Griptilian is thier number one seller for a reasoni. However in my opinion, the Paramilitary 2 seems to be a step up in quality and comfort for me . I choose , Paramilitary 2 as winner
Ergonomic goes to the Griptilian. If you do some really hard cutting it doesn't take long for the PM2 scales to bite into your hands. However, the PM2 is much better in the pocket.
I have more than 1 Griptilian and carry different one depending on the activity. I love the Axis lock and different colors, like orange when I’m hiking, or blue or black at other times. Though others have talked about quality problems, I have not experienced it, the quality is excellent. The 154cm blade material used in base models is a big upgrade from knives I have carried in the past that wouldn’t hold an edge for a day. The 20cv looks like a great upgrade. I have no Spyderco knives but from the many positive comments, I will be checking them out.
@Rich Scales Except when your Omega springs break and benchmade refuse to repair it because you live in the UK, then they void your warranty because you had to open it up and modify it yourself with non official springs, forced to counterfeit.
After collecting for about 6 years I finally added a PM2 to my collection. I own 7 or 8 each of Spyderco and Benchmade, and appreciate the advantages of both locking styles. To tell the truth, I hesitated buying a PM2 because it seemed like it might might be a little big to EDC. Moreover, it didn’t seem as compelling as something like Spyderco’s Vallotton (also a bit chunky for EDC) or as collectible as a Damascus Delica with jigged bone scales, for example. I have to say, however, that I couldn’t put it down. It felt so perfectly sized and mechanically solid, I carried it every day for a couple weeks, and I usually carry a different EDC every day. The Griptilian is certainly fast deploying and arguably more comfortable to hold with it’s more rounded cross-section, but the PM2 feels more like a piece of engineering. That said, I own a Hogue EX01 and it gives the big guys serious competition!
Dear friends of KnifeCenter, Congratulations on your challenge! So, in my opinion, both are excellent, undoubtedly are the dream of consumption of all. The Griptilian axis lock is special for ambidextrous, but even so, the paramilitary 2 is unbeatable... my favorite! Unfortunately, here in Brazil, they arrive with prohibitive prices. Thank you for allowing me to participate, a big hug to everyone!
I have both knifes in an upgraded version, they are both such great knives. I would have to pick the griptilian (my personal choice would be the upgraded model) because of the deep carry pocket clip and a very very slight edge of the axis lock operating system. This is one very hard choice, that there is no loser here, only two true winners that all knife owners should have each knife.
I will go for the Paramilitary 2 every day of the week. Compression locks are safer, are ambidextrous, can be unlocked with gloves on and they don't accumulate gunk as the Benchmade axis lock does (they are way much easier to disassemble for cleanup purposes). Spyderco tolerances and quality control are superior to those in Benchmade models and prices are considerably lower. Blade in the Griptillian wobbles (horizontal blade play), grind is not particularly well achieved (inconsistent in both sides) and scales feel cheap. Hogue is out of this league as they produce beautiful kinves (heavy though) but still with quality control issues (blade centering, blade play, etc.). Paramilitary 2 or Para 3 are way much better option than Griptillian and Mini Griptillian.
Funny, my Spydercos have just as much dirt built up as my Benchmades, so that's not relavent. I don't have a single Benchmade with an issue, grind, centering, lock up, and, I have sent far more broken Spydercos back for repair then Becnhmades. So after your done with your fanboy rant, put both brand's blade steels head to head and you'll notice that Benchmade comes out leagues ahead of Spyderco in terms of sharpenabiilty and edge retention. It's all in the heattreat and sadly Spyderco isn't there, even Buck has them beat.
Patrick Koch I don’t dislike Benchmades. I actually own quite a few. Still I think Spyderco has achieved very good quality standards (take a look at the integral Nirvana or the beloved Slysh Bowie). You will then change your mind.
I’d probably choose the Griptilian. I’ve had the PM2 before and loved it, but my favorite all time knife is the Griptilian. I owned one in the past but lost it during a camping trip. Just never got around to getting another one.
I own paramilitary one, bought 4 years ago. Believe it's the same size as para 2. Use it a lot, very good in retaining edge, comfortable G10 handle, safe back lock, very sturdy.
Both are great EDC options. I would get a standard PM2 over the standard Grip. The Grip with upgraded steel and handle material wins out for me in the end. The axis lock is much smoother and easier to use for me. I also think the Griptillians feel better in my hand. Both are great knives and I could make arguments for either one being superior, in the end it is just personal preference.
I own three Griptilians (154cm, custom d2, and G10 20CV) and 5 PM2 (S30V, S110v, XHP, Elmax, S35VN). For edc it really depends on your task. The tip strength is less on the PM2 but it is a superb slicer. The Griptilian is a great knife for more all around cutting tasks because of the heavy duty blade profile. My daily cutting tasks are usually slicing so I usually carry the PM2 and prefer it for edc. Both are great knives that will last anyone a lifetime if not abused.
I have wanted a Spyderco knife for a long time. I like the look and feel of them, especially the big circle hole on the blade. They have a good reputation. That is the knife I would buy.
I own both of these knives and they are two of my favorites for EDC. I like the Paramilitary 2 better for outdoor use because I find the blade shape to be more versatile in a variety of different grips and the compression lock to be less prone to breakage than the Griptilian's axis lock (because of the the omega springs). However, I think the Griptilian is better for carry around the office because of its deep-pocket clip (on the G-10/20CV model) and more subdued appearance (i.e., it looks a bit less "tactical" than the Paramilitary). If I could only have just one, I'd probably go with the Paramilitary because it is a better slicer, but it's a very close call. Both are excellent knives.
I would probably buy the Griptilian. I have always found my Benchmade knives to be reliable, sharp, and well made, with great customer service. The Lifesharp service is also excellent. I like the different blade profiles offered in the Griptilian line, and also the variety of colour options for the handles. I also like the axis lock, and I am very familiar with it, as I carry a Benchmade Barrage as my EDC.
My choice would be Paramilitary 2 because of the ergos of the handle. I've held both the Griptilian and Paramilitary 2 and the P2 fits like a glove. Thanks for the opportunity to own one.
Benchmade Grip with thumbstuds! Reliable, awesome grinds, relatively light. Only drawback is the handle thickness, but it’s manageable. I was never a fan of the pm2 handle, too long and the choil seems silly with such a big handle.
I have owned and used the same mini grip for over 13 years. Took it around the world with me, including Iraq. It’s still going strong. It’s got its bumps and bruises, but that just adds character to the knife. That being said I’m interested in the pm2. I love the design of it from top to bottom. So I would go with the pm2 upgraded version.
I'm more of a Benchmade guy, but I do know that Spyderco makes a stellar product. It's hard to say one is better than the other when they are both well built tools. It really comes down to cosmetics because I don't want a hole in my blade and I do like the strength of the Axis lock. I've dealt with Benchmade customer service before and they are on it. I am currently dealing with them and waiting for an upgraded blade change on my full size 551 Griptilian. They actually said they would replace the 154CM straight edge drop point for an S30V straight edge drop point even though that isn't an option. I do like that 4" Hogue EX01 with aluminum scales. Nice review.
If I bought one, it would be the 556-1 mini Griptillian with the satin blade. I have smaller hand and the mini Griptillian would fit like a glove. Even though it a smaller knife, they didn’t go easy and added G10 scales and CPM-20CV. To me, this knife checks all the boxes on the must haves and wants list. This is why I will eventually own one of these.
I would choose the Griptilian, because the locking mechanism is ambidextrous, safer, and really solid. Also, having gone to the Benchmade factory in Oregon, I really love Benchmade as a company, they really take care of there employees and it's just awesome.
I would try the Griptilian because i own the PM2 which is a great knife. But ive never used a Griptilian i wpuld love to check it out I've heard so many great things about it. Awesome video and cool GAW thanks for the opportunity! Good luck everybody!
Definitely Para2. Feels like a more solid knife, and I like the overall feel of the knife and the variety of steels available in their sprint runs (if you can catch one)
PM 2 is a great knife. I own both and love both. Hard to choose but PM 2 might have the edge for me just for the basic materials used in the base model.
I do love my Griptilian and would buy another in a heartbeat. I have never owned a Para, so I would probably have to go with that one. Thanks KnifeCenter!
I would buy the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 because I've always wanted one, and because it displays all the winning characteristics of an ideal EDC blade in spades. Besides that, I've always admired the Spyderco brand for its superb quality..... and I love their signature giant round thumb hole flipping mechanism.
For me it would be the Spyderco without hesitation. I prefer the compression lock, the flat handle scales, the opening mechanism, the handle scale material, and the full flat grind of the Paramilitary 2. Knifecenter is the best, great contest, thanks!
I carried a Para 2 for over a year, but my Griptilian with G-10 handles and CPM-20CV blade has been my EDC now since 2016. The fit and finish is impeccable, with a perfectly centered blade and zero play. It holds a shaving-sharp edge and requires little maintenance. The Spyderco is great knife, but my Benchmade is just perfect for me!
The ParaMilitary 2 because of its excellent design. Simple precision in a perfect package. Its not easy to take something so simple and yet continually perfect it, but that’s just what Spyderco has done. Great material, perfect blade, and .....the Compression Lock.
I really enjoy the fidget factor of the Griptilian, and for the longest time I felt that everything Spyderco had the face that only a mother could love. Until I watched a few videos here on RUclips, then actually picked up a PM2 at a local knife show, it was love at first sight for me. I think the fidget factor of the PM2 is better that the Griptilian, which is not easy to do - the Grip is great. I love how well the PM2 fits in the pocket for being a relatively large EDC. The Griptilian scales are a known weakness in the knife community, and they do not like my pocket. A better scale would make this a closer race for me, but I just really like the PM2.
I’d buy the Benchmade. Both knives are awesome. But the axis lock is truly ambidextrous. The knives are both so good it comes down to a detail like that to choose.
I do have a mini grip in blue, a paramilitary 1 in D2 with green G10, a paramilitary 2 in S30V and camo handles, and a Para 3 with an aftermarket Lynch deep carry clip. All very good and understandable EDC choices. I carry the Para 3 more than any of the others, and feel that it has the best combination of ergonomics, materials, and all around usefulness. I would certainly consider another one in one of the upgraded steels. FWIW, some of my other Spydercos get more pocket time than any of the others (delica, caly 3, urban) but of the ones above, the mini grip gets carried more that either of the larger Paramilitaries.
I would go for the Para 3 because it is a very good cutter and has a very solid lockup. The G10 scales are durable and grippy. It is also simply beautiful. The Para 3 would be the perfect knife for my bikepacking trip in May on the continental divide. 44 Gatelot Ave. Lake Ronkoma Ny 11779
I'd get the Spyderco. Every one that I have purchased has been exceptional fit and finish and perfect centering and I love the Spydie hole for versatility in openning
I have both which are both excellent knives for the price. I swap them back and forth for my EDC. They are both built well. Both came to me sharp and centered. I think the Grip is a little less threatening of a knife to pull out in front of someone. The Para 2 looks a little more murdery. I love them both and have multiple versions of each, grip, mini grip, pm2, and pm3.
Yeah that Hogue did look out of place here. There’s never been a Hogue model that spoke to me, and that locking mechanism seems to be only there to fix a problem that they created themselves with the button lock. Great choices on both companies too, the 940-1 especially is one of my favorite knives.
I have a Para and I love it! If I'd win I figure two is better but since i have one I think I would buy the Hogue, something about it just speaks to me.
Spyderco Paramilitary 2! The Spydie hole is completely addicting to me and quality of any Spyderco model surpasses that of most knife manufacturer's. Also, I love the blade shape, just begs to be worked!
I own both. They are both fantastic edc knives. I like the benchmade for work and the spyderco for other times. Both are extremely well made and very sharp.
the para2 is one of the best edc I've carried, I use to carry a benchmade styker until I got the para2 and it has taken everything I've put it through with no failure and love the compression lock. just the opinion of a left hander.
I prefer the Spyderco Paramilitary 2. It feels great in the hand and has never failed when needed. I own a few Benchmade knives and they are fantastic, but in this head-to-head I pick the PM2.
Can't believe it I still don't own a spyderco by now. This must be my lucky day! I think the blade shape is perfect for light duty food preparation in a city setting.
I'd got for the Para 2 though I'm a fan of the Benchmade and carry a Hunt fixed blade every day. I just like the way the Spyderco knives feel in my hand and have owned at least one since my first Worker back around '90.
I would select the PM 2 because I already own a Benchmade Grip. Honestly they're both great and this contest is my only chance of receiving one for Christmas. Tuition is killing my collection.
I like the look on both, I've owned/carried a griptillian for about 2 years and I love it. If I could choose though, I'd choose the spyderco because I know they're good knives also and I have never owned one.
I would have to go with the Spyderco Paramilitary 2. I like the locking system better and have been a fan of their knives since I bought my first one and saw the sharpness.
The Griptilian would be my choice. I’ve owned both in the past and both are great knives. I just like the Griptilian. Lost mine on a camping trip and just haven’t gotten around to buying another one yet.
I definitely prefer the Spyderco Paramilitary 2!! The Spyderco knives are known for their outstanding metallurgy used with their blades and the look and undoubtedly the feel are far superior, at least in my opinion. All are VERY nice knives and I surely would never complain if any of these were simply given to me!!!!
I own the mini barrage with the axis lock and 154cm steel. It also features a top lock that doesn't allow it to open or close when engaged. It also has the option of a semi serrated blade. The deep carry clip is awesome making it easily accessible and can be mounted on either side of the knife. The hand grip is the most comfortable and functional grip I have ever had. Definitely my favorite EDC for a left hander. I have owned two and even bought a third thinking I lost my second one. The Spiderco is nothing to compare. I have bought the mini griptilian for one daughter and another model of my other daughters choice. I also have another one in my collection I just purchased and I'm excited to try for an EDC. Spiderco is not my choice. The steel options and composition of the different frames and handles of Benchmade knifes are the Cadillac of industry if you want to spend a small fortune before getting into the very high end custom knife makers
I would buy the PM2, the axis lock isn't for me and I think spyderco has better fit and finish. Thanks you guys for doing this! Congrats to the winners.
The Spyderco has got the quality portion of the competition all sewn up I own a fee Spyderco knives and 3was optimistic at first but they grew on me,definitely the clear winner in my opinion!!
I would go for the paramilitary 2. I own the para 3 and the paramilitary 2 and use them as my EDC depending on whether I’m in Sac County (3” blade limit) or not. I have the blurple variety of each. Love the ergonomics and finger choir, the G10 grip, and the CPM S110V sharp blade. Also love the spyderco round hole for quick deployment and the locking mechanism. I’ve owned other Spyderco knives and Paramilitary 2 / Para 3 are my favorite.
PM2 for Spyderco quality & ergos. I want that blurple both for the color & that s110v! That said, I appreciate that Hogue is coming at the knife thing. Best of luck to them.
One thing that makes the Hogue EX03 the right knife for me is the glass filled polymer, single piece handle construction. This design provides several advantages. Such as strength and no screws, which ensures no issues with screws working loose. Another thing that stands out for sure is the blade edge. Although, similar to the other two knives mentioned in the video, the EX03 offers the one-handed closing feature and is designed to keep your fingers from having to cross the closing path of the blade. A disadvantage is the right-hand bias. Another disadvantage is the fact that the blade lock feature only applies when the blade is opened, not when closed. To some this doesn't matter, but to me, it detracts from the utility standpoint. A cosmetic detractor, to me, is the seam along the spine of the handle. I think if a little more time during the manufacturing process, it could be better cleaned up to the point where it would disappear, otherwise the attention to detail in the build of the EX03 is outstanding. So, it comes down to the handle construction. Otherwise, the other two knives are better in many ways.
Spyderco Paramilitary 2 C81GPDBL2 would be the one for me. I've always liked the feel of Spyderco's knives in my hand whether the Delica or Endura or my Police folder. Plus this particular model is a purplish blue. LOVE IT! And Knife Center? Thanks so much for the chance of winning!
Congratulations to Kingston73, who we've reached out to as our big winner. Enjoy your new Paramilitary 2

My choice would be Paramilitary 2 because of the ergos of the handle. I've held both the Griptilian and Paramilitary 2 and the P2 fits like a glove. Thanks for the opportunity to own one.
Para 2 is my favorite ever , the size of the blade is exactly what you need in EDC knife and it looks cool too.
I'd buy the Benchmade because I already have three other Sypderco knives. :)
Benchmade Grip with thumbstuds! Reliable, awesome grinds, relatively light. Only drawback is the handle thickness, but it’s manageable. I was never a fan of the pm2 handle, too long and the choil seems silly with such a big handle.
I own the Para 3 and Grip, but the Hogue looks right up my alley with the button lock. Have always liked the button lock.
I have a Paramilitary 2. Just got it and I am super happy with it. It is probably my fifth Spyderco.
My favorite is the Benchmade Griptilian (because of the looks) but both look to be very durable and reliable.
I would choose the Hogue EX03 for the button lock, making it easy to close one handed. They are all great knives.
I would buy the Griptilian. I love the Axis lock and the ergonomics fit my hand perfectly. Made in Oregon, too!
Paramilitary 2! Love the compression lock! Great working knife! Best edc ever!!!
Both are great knives, i have both but the Benchmade Griptilian is simply the best i love it, love to own 2 of them.
Definitely Para2. Feels like a more solid knife, and I like the overall feel of the knife and the variety of steels available in their sprint runs (if you can catch one)
Spyderco! Been carrying an Enduro since early '90's and irreplaceable. Tried many different knives and always go back to Spyderco.
Spyderco Paramilitary 2, I have a Griptilian, and mini grip. Plus I have been wanting the Paramilitary 2 with the Compression lock. Good luck all
PM 2 is a great knife. I own both and love both. Hard to choose but PM 2 might have the edge for me just for the basic materials used in the base model.
I really love that spyderco paramilitary 2 it’s a gorgeous knife love it!
IMO the Para2 just can't be beat. Hands down my favorite EDC blade.
I do love my Griptilian and would buy another in a heartbeat. I have never owned a Para, so I would probably have to go with that one. Thanks KnifeCenter!
DCA killing it 4 years ago.
Neither he nor the knives have aged poorly.
Thanks!
I own the Benchmade griptilian got it 3 days ago and I freaking love it it’s light weight compared to Tenacious and Ken Onion blur
Pm2 I have one already and is a work horse. Can never have too many Spyderco’s
Paramilitary 2 - it's more fun to open and close. I have both and they are both great knives.
Houge please. I already have the 551 as my EDC. Great comparison video.
The Spyderco PM2 has just the right combination of size, ergonomics, and style to suit me. I like its smaller sibling the Para 3 as well.
Para 2, there is no contest. Smooth as silk and a killer blade profile.
I have both PM2 and the Griptillian in 20CV sheepsfoot and standard. I carry the Griptillians most often.
I would prefer the Benchmade, simply because Im a Benchmade fan-man. I own both & love them. You cant lose with either
PM2 for me. The fact the some of the Benchmade versions look like Spyderco knives says it all.

I would go for the Spyderco Para 2. I like the feel and the lock.
I love them both but I prefer to buy the benchmade in the 20cv steel. One of my favorite steel.
I don't think the Hogue belongs among the two legends.. Time will sort this out. I prefer the PM2 for Spyderco and 940 Osborne for Benchmade!
Paramilitary 2 for me and carry one all the time because I love the blade and quality of spyderco knives.
EX-03. I had the EX-01 before and it was stellar. It was probably the most comfortable to use knife that I've ever owned.
the para2 is one of the best edc I've carried, I use to carry a benchmade styker until I got the para2 and it has taken everything I've put it through with no failure and love the compression lock. just the opinion of a left hander.
Benchmade grip is my favourite and will definitely edc it day and night!
I would select the PM 2 because I already own a Benchmade Grip. Honestly they're both great and this contest is my only chance of receiving one for Christmas. Tuition is killing my collection.
The Benchmade Griptilian. I always wanted one.
Hi Dave, I like the pm 2 more then the benchmade. I hope to carry it as my camping folding knife.
I’d choose the Benchmade Griptilian. I’ve carried one almost daily for four years and really like everything about it.
Para 2, have been carrying the sv110 for a year and its great
PM2 for Spyderco quality & ergos.
