im aerating my lawn for the first time Tuesday. i dethatched it about a week ago and it alreary looks greener.
Great video. I had to do a overhaul of my yard this weekend. Top dressing, overseeded with some rye so I can have a green lawn over the winter and did some DEEP aerating and soil amending in a couple problem areas.
loved that scene with the guy in home depot
Jake I got my father hooked on your channel.
I Love That Guy! Seems Cool To Hang With !
uh oh Ms. LCN made a guest spot at 5:52
We do curbing here in Arizona , maybe that will help with drawing a line with your neighbor.
Good job Allyn, Hi Mrs Lawn Care Nut.
another great video. I really enjoy these
Is it too late to put down a poa annua preventer?
I love your videos!
Hey lawn care nut! Question: I live in Canada and regularly mow high at 4 inches. What should the height be for the last cut before snow falls?
Thanks and appreciate the videos!
go down to 3" on your last cut before winter
You should make a business card to handout with your channel on it. imo
Allyn, no jk.... I'm at Home Depot in east greenbush NY.... and I'm looking for Milorganite .... and I see this guy w about 10 bags... ( I thought he took all of what was left.... it's on sale for $12.97 ps). So as I grabbed the last few bags.... he says yea, I watch this RUclips guy.... I look at him and smh... at the same time we both said Allyn... the LCN!! I instantly give him a high five... discussed our lawns.... and exchanged #s..... so weird.... yet so funny. Ray u out there new friend? Allyn small world my man.... lol
That's awesome ! I've wondered the same thing a few times when I've been at HD..maybe I'll start saying "yeah I watch the RUclips guy"
This is awesome 😂
I’ve never seen the stuff locally, I’m in Malta but moving to Mechanicville and I actually work in East Greenbush.
Thank you so much for your channel. I've already seen great changes in my lawn thanks to your tips!!

5:44 wife comes out, sees Allyn filming and mumbles to herself "Ugh, always doing lawn things! I was ready to go to the beach an hour ago!"
Kyle culwell was that the wife ? Looks more like the daughter in law. But fair play if it's the wife !
oh she will love reading this comment! :)
Next video title "Time Management for the True Nut - A Guide to Keeping the Wife Happy AND Still Dominating the Neighbors"
The question is, is she the dominator or the dominated? I think Allyn does what he's told.
The Lawn Care Nut and yes, shes can take it as a compliment, you lucky man!
About a month ago my local Walmart was getting rid of Milo I bought an entire pallet for $3.00 per bag.
Jeff Williams where did you store it all?
0:40 I'm always down for "just the tip, and just for a minute" Allyn
it's hard to say it with a straight face
ha "hard"...
Milorganite doesn't smell bad. It smells like the holidays!
At 5:50 your wife was hiding over by her car. 😂😂😂😂😂
lol thats hilarious
I use milorganite on my lawn here in MN distributing with my Earthway 2150. Just put my last fert down before winter. I had a similar conversation this summer (July) with another customer in Menards. I had to go to three different home improvement stores because milorganite was sold out for a couple weeks everywhere. When I finally found it, I was shoulder to shoulder with another lawn nut conversing about milorganite and grabbing up their remaining stock. Oh and...neighbors be jealous of my lawn stripes (Toro Lawn Striper). Love the channel and advice. It's good to take pride in your property. Thanks Allyn!
Do they have a Portillos down there??? I hear they built one in Tampa. I'm from Bartlett Il. I just started watching your videos and it was sad to see you leave. Good luck on your new endeavor.
Glad your in Florida now.. I got Grubs and then Nut Sedge,Dove and some other weed and it put a hurt on my Palmetto i put out Celsius two weeks ago and Saturday used Sedgehammer Gonna use Milorganite and fallow your schedule Thanks
glad Mathew spared you. couldn't make it through fall without videos. I would have to watch more reruns
Love buying Milorganite and nobody knows what it is like that guy at HD. So true that Scott's is always all gone and plenty Milorganite for the rest of us!
perfect timing.. chicken pot pie buzzer went off right when I found a new lawn care nut vid. life is good!!
Allyn do you have a video on how to prep a bare clay yard for seed? I need to scrap and level my yard and would like some tips on how to prep clay soil for seed
Great job Allyn - I'm from Milwaukee, the home of Mil-Orga-Nite !!
"You ever watch videos on RUclips?" "NO!"
"I have a weekly lawn care show on RUclips"
"Oh you do"
Hey what's your name on there I'll look you up when I go home.
Lol Great video mr hayne.
U still using the reel mower?
If you had to chose 1 spreader would you go earthway or the Echo RB-60? Am currently doing 3 yards less than 25,000 sq ft between the 3.
I know this is super old but ya man, you killed it. Appreciate how you defined spreading with an Earthway spreader at the entry level. Thanks man
great video I like the tips as much the next guy but the whole video is great don't stop make them like this
+The Lawn Care Nut Allyn HELPP! i have new sod that's 3.5 weeks old and i'm just hand pulling weeds when i can. How soon can i spot treat without damaging the young root system underneath?
You da man......I'm a Milo guy now cause of you....use the stinky stuff and get away from the artificial s.....
At frame 11:53 I noticed the agitator on the pinion shaft was pushed all the way on. Did you do this for more action on the contents? My directions on the Earthway 2600 shows it stopping on the first rounded area. I used my 2600 for the first time with applying Lesco dimension with a full BB sized particle and the spreader didn't work well. When pushed on all the way on the agitator isn't secure.
If my lot is 0.25 acres and that equals 10890 sq feet and my house is about 1300 sq feet can i subtract the two numbers 9590 to get the square footage of my lawn?
I just over-seeded my Bermuda lawn in ga with perennial ryegrass. How does milorganite work on rye? I applied a quick release fertilizer to get it started but could I use milorganite for the second application?
Two things. Dare I say the guy across the street is dominating you lol. Also, maybe putting some underground edging at the border will allow division between your neighbors grass. You want a definitive domination line for maximum effect.
Can I put down milo after Trugreen puts down its fertilizer? I was told not to....by them but I want the the masters advice.
Does your bumpy lawn cause your spreader chute to go closed from the vibration. I too have this spreader and it constantly goes closed on me, unless I hold the control rod open manually with my left hand. Can you relate? If so, how did you fix the problem?
I have an earthway s25 sprayer. I was wondering if when I'm spraying am I supposed to go wheel to wheel between passes?
That sprayer is discontinued any advise or recommendations seems better than a pump sprayer . I only do 5k sqft
Allyn, I have prodiamine that I bought last year for a pre emergent herbicide. How does this compare with the Dithiopyr because I still have plenty of the prodiamine and hate to have wasted money on it.
Recently got a Prizelawn spreader and I can't find anything on the number to set for lbs per thousand. Are there any spreaders that are similar that I could use those numbers?
I haven't done anything to my lawn should I drop some milo on it? Chicago suburb.
I have an issue with burmuda grass invading my fescue lawn here in KY. Any advice on how to get rid of it or control it?
Excellent video!!! Keep them coming this one had it all
thanks Bro
Any considerations or alternatives for using preemergents or other chemicals where children or pets will be on the lawn? ( I live in central Virginia)
Really enjoy the great information you are sharing!
Early in the year a seed meal such as soy bean, canola seed, alfalfa or corn gluten will, when they begin to break down from warmth and moisture will inhibit germination of any surface seeds, including grass seeds.
So do your seeding in fall.
The soy bean meal is my favorite, it's analysis is 7-2-0, and the down side is it smells a bit as it breaks down.
Hey do you think this would spread compost sand and top dressing. I want a spreader but not motorised
Dove weed looks pretty nice. You should keep it. Also, sound is funky.
Can I use Milo in conjunction with my True Green service?
Loved the longer video. Gave the times in your description for those that are looking for something specific. Nice transitions between subjects. Great idea and video. Keep the content rolling!
thanks bro
Another great video. Here's to a vigorous, lush green fall!
Great video as always,I just picked up a neighbor's yard that is in need of help.Did a reseed and put down the Milorganite.
sounds like fun
Alan anything I should do for crab grass now I'm in Boston
Good the hear back that you are doing Ok.
I typed atrazine but my tablet corrected it to magazine. Sorry
When can I catch the sunset in person with you?
I came here for "just the tip!"
Doh, ninja'd.
Watched the full video! Are striping/mowing videos coming back?? Really miss those. Also, loved the footage of the forming of a new LCN :)
Was this a rent house or did you move twice in Florida ?
So Bermuda is a weed in you st. Augstine lawn?
What about lesco fertilizer is it good for st agustine?
Where can you get milorganite in Canada??
I love mine wouldn’t trade it for another
what type of fertilizer., u threw it down?
Who is the artist for the song “ end of summer”
I got an Earthway 2150 for Christmas. Are the spreader settings the same across Earthway spreaders? Milorganite says to use setting 19, I want to make sure that's correct.
what's most important is that you apply 15LBS of Milo per 1000 Square Feet. The setting 19 may be a good starting place but your own walking speed and overlap will be more important when it comes to a proper application.
It's Milo, you can't put down too much. You can throw away money, but you can never put down too much, unless you put down like 20 bags at a time lol.
The wife ducks behind off camera!
Hane, Hane, Hane make my life easy PLEASE!!!
I bought the Earthway 2600 A-Plus spreader under your recommendation and you are correct it is great. But what setting are you using?
I am using Milorganite and walking the 3 to 3.5 mph walking speed. I want to put down 3/4 pounds on the ground. I am thinking 19-20?????
Thanks Hane keep up the good work.
I think the Amazon 2600 A-Plus link is broken. When I click it, it shows 0 results found. I've been waiting for Earthway to make more clear on Amazon which spreaders have side spread control as it is a bit confusing.

great Red Dragon clip
What is your experience with Celebration Bermuda? I was a mix of common bermuda and centipede grasses...looking to Dominate. Thanks
never worked with it - mine that I have is Princess77. I have several vids on the channel about it going way back to when I planted it last year
What do you think about the Earthway 2150 commercial vs the Earthway 2600A Plus? I will purchase the one you say is best.
That Dithiopyr 2L is $393.00 on Amazon for 1 gallon... OMG did you pay that much for that?
Just got the Earthway 2170 Commercial Spreader. was actually cheaper than the Earthway 2150 but not as cheap as the 2600.. $195 vs $217 vs $120.. I went with bigger hopper as my previous spreader I could only get 1/2 bag of fert in hopper. Now I can put 2 bags in and not have to reload for my entire front yard. I struggled to get it to spread right and the half spread was engaged. Saw this video wodnering if I missed something. Instructions on assembly could be slightly better. Probably my mistake but on one part the instructions called for logner screws than needed. and used shorter ones. I know kinda too late. But probably a good vid would be assembling one.. But feel and stability of the spreader is night and day better over the Scott Mini I had..But the Scott did its job for 5 years
Allen - really enjoying your channel "I like it alot" (from D&D). I live in a suburb of philly and have about 3/4 acre of lawn. I got brave this year and started mowing at 4" instead of 3", it has worked nice for lawn stripes without using a striper. My question is now that fall/winter is coming can you tell us all at what length to mow my lawn for the fall and then a final cut for the winter? Should I go back down to 3" or stay at 4" I like the short cut for the fall/winter since the grass blades do not catch any leaves blowing around, they just roll to my neighbors, ha!... but if you say to keep 'er long I'll do it. My grass type is a hybrid of the Pennsylvania mix fescue that HD sells for our area (and alot of weeds/junk crap!). If it helps I never bag clipping and leaves I just mow over them many times until they become dust. Thanks for any insight!
Hey Allen, quick question for you. Last week I put down a couple bags of milo and my grass is turning yellow. I'm clueless....Am I missing something?
BTW I'm in orlando FL if you need to know.
Dear Mr. lawn care or nut, wow what a fabulous video I too am a TruGreen alumni. I worked there under the original owner long ago and far away. My question is about your choice of Milorganite on Florida turf for a fall application. If memory serves me correctly this product is an organic form of nitrogen only, no potash and no phosphorus. It is also my understanding that soil temperature has to be above 70° for it to start breaking down. Thus, why would you use it in the fall when the temperatures. Hopefully we'll drop. And do you not feel that St. Augustine grass requires potassium? Oh By the way that Earth Way sprayer is just plain making my naughty spots tingle. Love your videos, love your personality, love your editing and I will wait with bated breath for your reply.
How often should you fert Bermuda
Shame it's a $600 sprayer, but glad to see my local HD has the Milorganite. I'm off-script and will be laying down the next application around Halloween.
I think it's more like $400 but def not cheap - it's a luxury item for sure. You can do the same thing with a hand can or backpack but when it comes to a blanket app like pre-emergent the spray pro delivers flawless coverage.
Awesome video! I agree, Love the Home depot scene. Would love more landscape errand scenes. Good stuff. Love the camera knock over. You are a nut. :-) Love the sunrise sunset intro/ending. This video was great.
I chuckled when when you said winter and 70*.
Question. All you use for fertilizing is Milorganite?
The link shows a different spreader type. Just an FYI.
*** HOTTIE ALERT *** at the 5:45 mark, although she looks confused/lost... I say we put it to a vote on whether Mr. "throw-er-down" needs an attractive female sidekick or not. The kid in NW Indiana is okay, but I find him somewhat lacking in the ability to hold my attention for extended periods of time like the "Rehab Addict" woman does... Just sayin'.
maybe I'll just get a puppy ;)
Still pretty hesitant about milorganite... I got a few that would complain about the smell. I'm starting to use a brand called Nitro-Phos. It's a local brand here. They have an organic fert called sweet green. Works great and smells like molasses. Your yard is starting to look good! I bet this winter the roots will get a bit more established, and come spring, the St Augustine will take over!
Hi Allyn, do you know if your Earthway 2600a Plus is some sort of special variant? When I look it up online, I can't seem to find any information on the sidespread control. It's not even mentioned in the manual on Earthway's website...
I recently bought a 2600a estate by mistake as it was labbeled as a plus on the dealer's website but he said that he was pretty sure that only the tires are the difference between a plus and an estate. So, this combined with the missing information in the manual makes me wonder. Do you have any knowledge to share in this regard?
P.S. Thank you very much for all your informative videos all the way from Denmark.
Damn you, Lawn Care Nut! I'm just kidding, but I searched through your videos a few weeks ago looking for a spreader review. I saw that you had the Earthway, but I wasn't sure if you liked it or had any complaints, especially since Earthway has so many different models/options. I'm not a huge fan of the round hopper, but the point you made about visibility definitely makes sense. I went back and forth for a few days and ended up going with the A.M. Leonard spreader. I like it, it performs well, and is definitely well-built, but I was having issues with the control cable and called A.M Leonard for help. They couldn't answer my question so they put me in touch with the manufacturer. It turns out it's manufactured by Earthway! I guess I still got a quality spreader; I just wish I went with Earthway directly instead of a rebranded model. Anyway, when I saw the title of this video pop up I just thought the timing was funny. Thank you for all your hard work putting these videos together. I'm a big fan, and so is my lawn.
Allyn,
I have become a big fan. Love the striping videos you have so much that I made my own. I followed you on Google+ and I have posted pictures and videos there if it. Thrower down. Check them out.
Allyn, when are we going to get that book you said you'd be writing? ;) some of us haven't forgotten!
Just did a complete rehab in my back yard and am trying out some RTF sod. Looking forward to seeing how it compares to the bluegrass/rye/fescue front lawn.
You used to use Lesco fertilizer. I bought some Lesco and my lawn is in Pittsburgh, PA. When can I use it? I also got some Milorganite:)
Had question on that sprayer you used at end of video from earthway. Do you essentially walk through your product? And is that ok? I use prodiamine as preemergent instead of dithopyr cause I have Bermuda lawn. I like how easy it looks vs wearing backpack sprayer and applying
Always a pleasure to watch and learn from your vids LCN. I especially enjoy the humor. LOL. Man, I gotta get to work on the lawn. I seen your other vid about crab grass seeds and wow, do I have a lot of that. Pre-emergent time for my lawn this fall.
Great video's...can't find Milorganite anywhere in Ontario Canada...any suggestions on an alternative?
Did you get any citrus this year?
Dear mr. lawn care nut, your videos are awesome and please keep up the good works and tips! My question however is where can I get a couple of those LCN stickers so I could put em on my spread and mower? Hell I'd even pay for a couple of those bad boys! :)
I have one. It is a lifetime spender
Allyn question about the S25, I tried to put air in the tires and had absolutely no luck!! any advice?!?!?
When you were talking to the guy at Home Depot about milogoranite & your channel, the song "Why can't we be friends" by the group War was playing over the speakers.
About to oversees my Bermuda with perennial rye here in Phoenix az. Should I throw milorganite with the seed or wait until germination?
Hey Allyn what's up! So how about we get some Thrower down stickers for the next round to the Patreon customers?
