Great tip about the tyre tracks. My drop spreader has just broken and I want to replace it with a broadcast spreader. I was worried about overlapping and getting even coverage, but this has gicen me more confidence in using a broadcast spreader.
Excellent video. Many clients I get are intimidated by using a broadcast spreader or have had issues burning the lawn or striping it in the past. Very clear and easy tips, well done
Thank you for putting product on a leveled surface and weighing it out. You dont now how many time I see folks putting products on top of their lawns the day they have an oppsie they will learn about a leveled surface Also over applying products by just dumping and going.I use the same method scale and bucket and go! great info J.
Absolutely! I always fill on my sidewalk or drive to avoid issues with spills - I guess I forgot to mention that in the video lol Also, that bucket method is great, years ago I would dump and go, but measuring out always gets the perfect amount down. Thanks for watching as always Dan, appreciate you!
Excellent information…. Well presented…. How wide is the pattern or swath of the Spyker? Does the Spyker have a way to control width of swath besides speed of pushing? How do you manage the more narrow areas of your lawn when using the Spyker? Do you maintain same speed in your entire lawn?
Great questions Thomas! I would estimate the official swath of the spread on the Spyker to be around 8 to 10 feet wide from end to end. Outside of slowing the speed or using the optional side deflector, changing the spacing of the chute opening to drop less product would decrease the spread width. In the more narrow areas, I will slow down a bit and use the side deflector to ensure I am not throwing product off the left side. I do try to maintain the same walking pace to ensure I am getting consistent spread on my lawn. I appreciate you watching and commenting Thomas!
Thanks Jennifer! Yeah, those zebra stripes are not good haha. The even coverage is key in making sure products are applied correctly. I appreciate you watching and supporting the channel as always!
Great video! I like the spread pattern you describe. Do you need to apply at half the rate the bag says with that overlap, or do manufacturers assume that we throw to the previous wheel path? Thank you!
No, this spread pattern is full bag rate as it is intended to be correctly applied. You want to spread like this to ensure even coverage. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you found it helpful!
When going on the fertilizer bag setting like yard mastery fertilizer..what drop setting rate would you use for this Stryker spreader? Would it be similar to the scotts mini or to the ECHO RB60 spreader?
I personally have not seen Spyker listed on any granular products. That said, I provided a link to the Spyker website in the product manual (check out page 20) where it gives some recommendations on settings based on product granule sizes and desired pounds per thousand. After a few uses, you can get the feel for settings for various products and really get comfortable with it. It is the best spreader I have ever owned. www.spyker.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/bvbfslzwfj8s4gya1rwp.pdf

After you get used to the broadcast spreader, it is really easy to operate and to get even coverage with. I love mine. Good luck! Thanks for watching!
Excellent walk-through of using a broadcast spreader - especially explaining the throw pattern. Well done video

Very informative! I guess I need a new spreader. I ended up with the lines last year every time. Good thing it was only milorganite.
