What a vacuum leak on an NA Rx7 sounds like

  • I made a vacuum leak on the lower intake manifold by not sealing the ACV block off plate completely. This is a pretty universal sound of a vacuum leak on a rotory engine. The severity of the leak in the video was very minor, it would create a sound of misfiring at idle, also the car would die once it reached operating temperature. Most vacuum leaks on rotorys are incapacitating, but this was very small in order to show others what it sounds like

Quick question (if you are still active on this channel) my FC sounds almost exactly like this on startup for about 7-15 seconds and I mean sounds exactly like this but then after those few seconds it starts to catch and runs and drives perfect with good idle and sound (other than some pops n shi) any idea on what this could be? Ps car is a 88 vert w 126xxx miles and has slightly low compression

first off, if you haven't already, delete the emissions if possible in your area. Banzai racing and Atkins rotary have block off kits to do so for around 35$ for the NA models. I say this because the emissions systems on the FC have so many vacuum leak possibilities that it would be easier to just remove them as they can really only cause problems and it only takes about an hour or two for a non-seasoned mechanic to do in their own garage. Secondly, if it is not emission related vacuum issue it could mean that you have a faulty Bypass Air Control valve(BAC) or faulty ACV. the BAC is on the direct side of the upper intake manifold and looks like a cylinder with a big hose that runs from it to the underside of the airbox. DO NOT DELETE THE BAC, if it is bad get a new one, it helps to control idle. The ACV is what connects directly to the air box and its essentially a MAF(Mass airflow sensor) however i'm not sure how it affects idle. Thats my suggestion, hope it helps.
