You are one terrific teacher! So glad I found you as my hair is very similar to yours. I have been growing it out from a pixie and is bob length for the first time in many years. I have been despairing because of the thinness and just yesterday I was thinking of whacking it all off again. Nope not gonna do it now that I’ve seen your magic! I love to see women of a certain age wear longer hair and that’s exactly what my goal is. What a beautiful lady you are and thank you so much for blessing me with this as it is giving me fresh hope! Hugs!

I have been wanting to make these rats for several years but never thought of buying extentions to make them. My grandmother said they saved all the hair from their brush to make them, but my hair is so thin now there isn't enough to collect. I decided to grow my hair long and when time to cut it in the spring to have the stylist save all my hair so I can do this.
For now I rely on a wardrobe of seasonal hats to disguise my thinning hair.

This is sooo helpful. And Sharon, you’re just lovely, and too clever! I wish I could do silver/white hair. I’m just not getting away with my boxed blonde anymore.
I like to wear my hair up in a French twist or chignon, or sometimes a big loose bun. But I have less hair these days than I did a few yrs ago, so it doesn’t look as full, and lovely as it used to. But, I can absolutely do this with the padding. Haha! The term “Classic” is right! I saw a woman having her hair done this way by her “ladies’ maid”, on an episode of the tv program, Manor House-a social experiment type of thing, where present day folks try to recreate Edwardian lifestyle.
    Thanks again, Sharon 🌎✌🏼❤️

You are most welcome Laura McWhorter and so glad you like. That "Manor House....." sounds very interesting. BTW another thing you can try is a hair scrunchie for help with thinning hair. OMG Blanca W what a story. And bravo for lookin' beautiful during a difficult ordeal (not that that matters) but you know what I mean. I remember falling on black ice at the end of a date and the hunky firemen carrying away from the scene was something I put in my memoires. So glad I had my act together. It's like our mothers use to insist on us being well groomed in case you had to go to the hospital. 😁 So glad your hair padding had another use.

Hi Sharon, thanks for making these videos! I used to have the kind of hair that compelled people to compliment me or ask if they could touch it. *sighs* I lost it all to chemo in 2003 and the regrowth was thinner and much of the natural curl was lost, but I could work with it! 2005 it happened again, but the regrowth was even thinner, no curl and a bit frizzy.......your videos helped me learn a different way to fix my hair without it being such a darn struggle! Keep on keepin' on, love your content!

I am halfway through my chemoradiation and my hair has always been fine and very slow growing. It is so easy to have it long and I don't have to blow dry it-but it will thin.
No "cancer" website mentions anything about this-but there are plenty telling you to "take control" and "don't let cancer take your hair" and shave your head!
I thought I was being "desperate" since I started saving the hair from my brush before any treatment started.
P.S.- I was also able to shrink my tumour before any chemoradiation by changing my diet. Now I feed myself and not my cancer. We are all fighting cancer-most people just don't know it. Blessings from Toronto ♥

Hi Sharon. The idea of making a hair rat is such a good idea. I had ordered a grey hair scrunchie to go around my ponytail to make it look fuller. The scrunchie was just too white and straight and it never looked right. I came across a previous video of yours showing how to make one of these. I found a hair net and made my own hair rat. I use it all the time in the crown of my hair. I love it. I never would have thought of doing this on my own. Now I need a bigger one so I can do the third hairdo. Just may be my holiday look. Thanks again for such great ideas.

Your hair looks so similar to mine! About the same length, and weight, and straightness. People think that I have full thick hair just because I know how to make it look like it has body but I know the struggle against it looking limp and lifeless and being too slippery to manage. It always wants to fall out of any shape, and never will hold a curl. I've been wearing updos for a few years now, and have found them to be real game changers as far as how much I have to mess with my hair all day long to keep it looking all right. I used to think updos were for fancy days or to try to look impressive. Now I just think it's the easiest thing to wear!
Two things I've learned to give my hair more body were really hard for me to accept, because they go against my natural inclination to wash my hair every day (because it tends to be very oily). But I had to learn to embrace a certain amount of dirtiness in my hair to make it look better. Which is BIZARRE. But I learned to not just "not wash it", but when it gets oily (after a day or so) to add powder to my hair (I use unscented aloe baby powder) which absorbs the oil to keep it looking clean and also helps give my hair grip to hold fluffy styles much better. In this way I can go a full week between washes, and my hair looks almost BETTER on day seven than it did on day one! But by then I seriously can't stand it any more so I wash it just for my own comfort.
I learned all this from researching how ladies managed hundreds of years ago before modern methods were normal. These techniques (not washing, but daily brushing, and adding powder as needed, and wearing hair up in styles that were often ratted or backcombed for volume) all work together to make hair styling a lot less hassle over all for me, who is a person that has no time for frequent salon visits or much fussing with hair in the morning. I'm sure I spend less than ten minutes a day on my hair now, and I really love it. Plus I get complimented for my elegant, old-fashioned, feminine style all the time!

    • @twominutetips
      @twominutetips  6 лет назад +2

Bravo Marialla - yes, looking back in time to the secrets of a former sisters is always a smart move. And yes, baby powder, especially for gray or blonde hair is a great dry shampoo as it were. AND agreed, that wearing your hair up in some fashion is a far more smart use of time management. Again, bravo.

Hair padding is an art as old as women's fashion, I believe going back to the 1700's. I believe women used to have their personal handmaids who brushed their hair, save the hair from their hairbrushes to create hair pads as the "underpinnings" of many of the beautiful, yet not outlandish hairstyles. Thank you for reminding us, and demonstrating for us, these creations.

You are most welcome Sandra McIntyre. And you are right - hair padding goes way back and further than the 1700's too. And yes saving hair from one's brush was something that all women did at one time.

I am a dunce. I can never master this technique. You make it look so easy! My hands get caught up in all that hair and it never looks right. Kudos to you! I'm glad i found your channel. You are a beautiful lady! God bless.

Thank you for your kind words and glad you are here. Yes you can master it. It just takes practice like everything else in life. Be sure to wrap the faux hair in a hair net which keeps it all together and use the correct roller pins and you'll find it will make the task much easier.
