    The Guardian feels like it was purpose built for bounty hunters and mercenaries. All the weapons are customizable, including the missile racks, it has multiple gun racks for FPS fighting, a nice interior and engineering terminal for whenever that comes out (and hopefully tuning, too), and just enough internal space for someone and a package or two. And let's face it, it looks damn good, too. Alien yet familiar, flashy yet functional; a ship for contract killers stalking the big cities of the 'verse, not just its outskirts. Definitely a ship worth checking out.

    It's the first fighter I've been interested in since CIG first nerfed the Vanguard. The stock Guardian W/stock paint is my favorite.
    It has everything a solo player needs in a fighter and more. I can always upgrade shields, power plants etc. and don't care if others run away ... So as to keep it simple, less things to wear out or break. What draws me to it the most, is the interior and S5 weapons W/out a turret, so no reliance on another player/NPC.

  • @Civilunit
    @Civilunit Месяц назад +10

    I do like it, though it might be better to call it a 'light' heavy fighter. Still the payload is pretty good and I like how the ship handles, it does well in both atmosphere and space without feeling heavy. I do enjoy the interior and I appreciate the external rack and inventory access, makes it easy to throw some gear into the ship that you found without getting in and out of the ship. While it has a few little bugs that make it hard to get out the cockpit forward once inside and the limited power does make you have to manage allot its a solid single player daily driver that is relatively small but big enough for what it does. It has allot of furry advantages while not being completely dependent on the main thrusters to move which allows it to take a few more hits without becoming unflyable. They did a good job with it, very sexy ship.

    • @ForgeCoreGaming
      @ForgeCoreGaming  Месяц назад +1

      You're right - I think the designation of "heavy" comes from the weapon payload. I only know this because I did a bit of digging when I did the buccaneer review 2 weeks(?) ago. I had always thought it was size/mass. But I was wrong.

    One of the Devs talked about fixing the Redeemer. Moving the squad hab up and putting back its 4 man drop capability that it was originally pitched. Now we'll have our Hind-D in space with special operation insertion squads.
    Yea losing the weapon sizes sucks but if we get those drop pods I'll gladly take the trade off.
    Also like the Scorpius, I think 1 S2 Shield Gen is anemic....2 S2 Shield Gen's is where I think both ships should be sitting at or 4 x S1 shield Gens.

    • @grygaming5519
      @grygaming5519 Месяц назад

      @@ForgeCoreGaming I think it was a spectrum post about 2 weeks ago. They were re-evaluating the ship for a Gold Pass. I honestly think it does qualify because when the Redeemer was pitched originally it was supposed to be a Special Operation's gunship. It was supposed to launch with the ability to quick drop a 4 (or was it 6 man) team into a contested zone and float around for close air support.
      The Redeemer we have now was more or less a gimped version of the ship that won the contest. If I remember the way the contest team stated, originally it was only supposed to have co-Pilot 2x S5 weapons while the rest were S4 weapons. Missiles that were Air to Ground and Air To Air to round out its offensive capabilities.

    Good for you man. It’s always great when you find a ship that you just get and it fits your style. I think as you highlighted, it’s one of the only heavy fighters you can ‘live in’ and that’s a real bonus. Unfortunately, just like the X Wing style Scorpius before it, I really wanted to love the Guardian but something about both of these Star Wars inspired ships just leaves me a bit Meh. All the points you make are valid and good. For me, I think I am disappointed it doesn’t stick to the style of the Fury with maybe 4 x S4’s.
    That’s such an aggressive and unique look that made you feel powerful and I was expecting that configuration as I love that about the Fury. Having 2 x S5’s slapped in the middle of the 4 big arms feels like a cop out and not in keeping the original design. I also think a solo player will get chewed up in Pyro if they wander around in this too long. Solid HP pool but that 1 xS2 shield is a bust.

    • @ForgeCoreGaming
      @ForgeCoreGaming  Месяц назад +1

      So.. I agree all around here with your critiques of the ship.
      The 4s4's would have been nasty tbh. I think it would have been too strong though, and they'd have to remove some hull hp. Which.. I guess would be fine. The biggest reason I think they WON'T do it is because they'd have to go back and rework the hard points & power management on it.

  • @IniresMirrors
    @IniresMirrors Месяц назад +1

    I’ve been loving the Guardian for the same reasons: maneuverability, the S5 guns, and the living quarters. It definitely takes some practice in self-defense situations, as I couldn’t get a bead on a competent griefer in a Gladius near quick enough to avoid his destroying my power plants. I did some grinding in Pirate Swarm after that one.
    The only box this ship doesn’t tick for me is some small dedicated cargo space (like the Origin 300 series), but that could be easily solved if CIG replaced that rear elevator with a ramp; I have been able to fit a 1 SCU box inside, with a little difficulty, so if I find some valuable contraband on a VHRT/ERT, I might be able to take it with me.

    • @ForgeCoreGaming
      @ForgeCoreGaming  Месяц назад +1

      Yeah - I'm perfectly ok with the limited storage capacity of it - and I don't think that SCU boxes will ALWAYS be safe to sneak up on the elevator.. I'm pretty sure they turned off damage to the interior of ships from most sources for the time being. But when they turn that back on, you won't be able to do that anymore.

    I think the Guardian is the forbidden lovechild of the Elite Dangerous Vulture fighter with its two large weapons and the Star Wars Tie Interceptor. I'll be going with the QI variant even if I plan to have that system off outside of dedicated instances when me and org mates are trying to keep an NPC from fleeing as eventually they will do so. Personally I love the QIs base paint job and I like how it looks. Yes it is around 8% slower and less agile than the base model but I can accept that for the option to help out with a QI ship in situations where it is necessary to have one despite my distain for piracy and pirate activity. I can see the QI component being useful in bounty hunting 2.0 if targets may flee and don't have ro be taken alive.

    Yes I just watch Fried Chicken load the SCU on the rear elevator which easily fit and you just enter from the front then and lower it and move it to the bunker entrance then put it back on the ship and raise it up so simple and CIG got this one right. Polaris repairs will run in the millions based on how much damage and ammo restock as well as the fuel will kill you out of the gate. So far I am impressed they covered all the important bases with this ship and I love the look and layout, I do think the QI is the better choice for a cash purchase though you get more for your money. I also wish they gave it 2 size 2 shields or 1 size 3 shield but remember that this is alpha and if we let them know it's to weak here it can be changed like they just did with the Intrepid. But all in all this one looks like a in between winner it's got it's own spot to achieve long term goals unlike devoted fighters. I am considering letting a few of my devoted fighters go due to the fact they are not long distance now and more like glass canons, lots of weapons doesn't guaranty you win the fight you have to survive , so more of the smaller fighters have become less appealing to me even though I love the look and feel and speed ,they just cant take on anything big at all size one shields are not a lot of protection and they have little to no real armor on most of the ships that's why they are so fast and agile. This ship gives you a decent shot but doesn't give you a insane advantage it's a good balance of game mechanics without stacking the deck in your favor. Great video BTW keep it up.thank you.

    I recently melted my Vanguard Warden and the BUKs that I have been holding onto since the concept sale. It broke my heart, but it simply never performed its stated role, and I have come to abandon combat in SL as a chosen profession. This ship makes me consider if I shouldn't take another look, though. The only thing that really makes me hesitate is the spectre of them changing the ship after the sale to remove its strengths.

    • @ForgeCoreGaming
      @ForgeCoreGaming  Месяц назад +1

    • @kebasor
      @kebasor Месяц назад

      @@ForgeCoreGaming It's hard not to feel they will cut back on the Guardian. Compared to the Warden, it has twice the firepower, better handling while maintaining the same speed, apparently more armor (if HPs are a reflection of armor and durability), and the same living support systems for long duration missions. The only things the Vanguard might have are the use of a ramp instead of a lift (value indeterminate since the Vanguard carries no cargo or vehicles), may have greater quantum range (currently indeterminate with no indication the devs intend to make it the huge increase over other fighters it was supposed to feature), and the module system (indeterminate value as the torpedoes of the Harbinger are low damage weapons easily shot down, and the Guardian can get a similar option to the Sentinel while maintaining livability). Right now, it is seeming the Vanguard simply can't compete with the Guardian, and I feel that will motivate reductions after the sale ends rather than improvements to the Vanguard series.

This is also why there's additional gun racks and inventory on the wing tips, you can pop out the front, grab a gun and get right into action.

That would be so nice to have a dedicated small space for 1-4 scu. Also it would have been amazing from Miria to include a pulse to the ship and add a something that holds the pulse. How amazing that would be to to land and get out of the ship having a small vehicle and a little space for a few small containers. Definitely could have been done instead of giving such a small ship 4 rooms and 4 doors before finally getting into the cockpit.

    A long range fighter, so it falls between the Banu Defender and the Vanguard. Smaller than both and harder hitting, but lacking the ramp that makes box delivery easy. For the big guns I felt let down by the Crusader Ares/Ion during IAE, but they are anti-large, where this is anti-medium and the maneuverability is in the Guardian to make it playable against fighters. I'm not much for QD gameplay so I'm leaning towards the standard variant. I prefer the red paint out of the options but the Qi standard paint is cool as well.

    The guardian is such a delight. Its stock loadout resembles what I used to fit on my redeemer. It's a flyable solo og redeemer turret.
    2x S5 laser cannons pack such a punch. It's so satisfying to not spray but to aim and snipe ships. Unstaggered, most small fighters take 1 shot to take out the shields and then 1 or 2 more shots to blow up.
    S5 cannons are medium to large ship killers too. Corsairs and Hammerheads will hate guardians with S5 laser cannons

    I like the original gun on the Inferno. But the relentless nerfs to it and no interior in such a huge ship, when the smaller intrepid got a full interior like the guardian, made it an easy melt for the guardian. I cannot get my MFDs power settings to persist from landing and storing to switching from nav mode to scm mode. I am constantly having to reset my power allocations. Quite annoying. But working on the second half a mil needed to upgrade power supplies to the Lumacore and shield to the Trenta and QD to the Hemera. First half a mil went to swapping omni for attritions. Still not sure which has faster TTK though.
    I only wish that they had not put that extra door at the back. No need to have a door between elevator room and engineering room. There is components in the elevator room so you would still need to vent the elevator room to access those components. The hab space has another door and then the cockpit has an airlock. All of that is moot anyway since the suit locker is in the elevator room, so you are not getting a suit on if you are in cockpit and take damage which vents the rear of the ship. We still do not have the room tech in game yet, but the layout is questionable and the extra door is pointless besides just making it harder to put stuff like a pulse into the ship.
    still my new favorite ship. I do not have any ships without an interior. If I wanted to just fly a ship with cockpit, I could do that in ED and have much less bugs. I had inferno from concept because of course Brrrrrrrrrrrt, but when they did not put an interior into that ship, I was already starting to lose my desire for it. Then the intrepid comes out and is smaller, with an oversized gun and a full interior, and the constant nerfs to the inferno made it finally lose its luster. Been waiting for a non vanguard heavy with interior to replace my inferno. This ship is definitely it. Only thing better would be a drake heavy fighter with interior. I am a DRAKE boy, just love their aesthetic and real feeling of the ship.

      They don't really have anything to nerf. Its not OP by any stretch. It already has less maneuverability than the base model. Both models have low shield hp and a few components with less than 1000 hp. It isn't SUPER fast.. and it isn't SUPER strong. The scope of the game is more fleshed out these days & ship balancing is happening to old ships to reflect that. New ships can be expected to be relatively safe from the nerf hammer.

    Also I like the interior but i hate how segmented it is. We don’t always need 4 segments, 3 would be perfect. First is rear entrance which will be components, second can be living area and armor/weapon storage, third cockpit that they can make a bit bigger so you don’t get stuck between a shut door and a empty seat. This has happened to me and what ended up happening is I would get pushed to the bubble in front of the chair so I had to get back in seat and try again.

The extra storage for bunker runs was a huge selling point for me as well. I got the base version- because of power management issues and because I don’t see me using the dampener. To me this isn’t a ship I would want to actively PvP in and the dampener is worthless on NPCs. Besides I can always upgrade if the need arises.

    I also wanna add they will either need to nerf the QI a bit or buff the base a bit, because the differences seem miniscule with the QED being a definitive pro.
    So we might see a slight buff soon.

      @besgarknightshade3241 Месяц назад +4

      I would hope that since you need 3 power to use the QI it becomes a skill issue with regards to power management. I don't know for sure but that would be my thought process as to why they are close. Time will tell I guess. QI paint job is why I am likely choosing it over the base.

      @@besgarknightshade3241 You're right - it's (energetically) expensive to use. I was messing around the other day because another player happened upon me while I was doing a bounty.. I chased him around a bit - with zero intention of actually killing him. But I put my dampener on just for fun.. bam crime stat.. didn't even consider that would happen.

    i'm actually interested in getting this, as it has a walkable interior.. for me it's all about the immersion and having a place i could call home.
    while i don't normally fly combat ships, i definitely know i will want one combat ship i am used to flying. And currently it's looking like i might be chosing the guardian. But first i need to find someone to spawn it for me.

    Personally for me, the vanguard warden is still going to be my primary fighter due to the tankyness, and turret, although ill definitely buy the guardian in game!
    Edit: I also feel like the redeemer is taking steps in the right direction, as I think you could almost classify it as a "superheavy" fighter, which I'm not to upset about despite having tried pre change and loving the s3 shields and massive turrets

    • @ForgeCoreGaming
      @ForgeCoreGaming  Месяц назад

      Nothin wrong with that. The Vanguards are good ships. Maybe we could form a heavy fighter squad some time & go to Pyro

      How does the guardian compare to the warden? That would be a good video comparison. I'm on the fence between both.

    • @randlebrowne2048
      @randlebrowne2048 Месяц назад

      Ironically, the post-nerf version of the Redeemer is actually far closer to what the original concept of the ship was. I remember melting mine when it finally got put in the game because you *couldn't* use it like a super-heavy fighter. The speed/agility nerf was just way too much for me.
