Matt, you’re a gem. ✨ your quirkiness priceless 💜
Thanks lil dude, I’m glad you’re here! Hopefully you enjoy my garbage!
I appreciate the heck out of everyone who scrolls this far, I love you... I mean uh, actually... You're neat.
Been battling heat soak in my 100% completely stock 2019 F150 5.0 coyote got a similar kit I need to instal. Started at 70k only when towing would just click. Now any day stop run in a store 20 mins or less come back put click try a few times starts right up. It never argues with the flywheel at over a 100k now
After driving my truck for about 30 miles, I turn it off, then try to start but only clicks. After it cools off it turns on, will heat wrap work?
best bet would be to replace your starter heat wrap may help but your starter is already on its way out
Do you know exactly whats failing inside the starter to cause it to not
start from the heat? I heard the wires or solder expand increasing resistance. Sound plausable?
Good video like your funny personality let's get more content!
Thanks buddy I’m glad you’re here and enjoyed it! I try to make a video every other week but ya know, work and other BS sometimes gets in the way haha
I just went through this with v8 camaro n headrrs. Old starter. Take the car oit cruise a while shut off. Dead. Have to push start 5 speed. Annoying.
The Camaros have an issue with starters. If yours is a 5th or 6th gen it has to do with the battery being in the trunk, the long runs of cable and the heat soak of the starter. Wrapping the starter will help but the big fix (as seen in numerous RUclips videos) is installing a shorter "0" gauge ground wire from the frame to the engine block. Most report this cures the starter issue. PS- I have a 2011 Camaro 2SS and it has also suffered from the starter issue. It has had 3 batteries installed and the car only has 25,000 miles on it. I am using a Red Top Optima battery now and that really helped. I am doing the ground wire next. Then will come the wrap.
@realnikonlover6207 nailed it! I’ve seen it a few times on stock cars but add in aftermarket header or god forbid long tubes and it’s over haha
A good quality starter with a dei wrap will stop that
@@realnikonlover6207I just got a 5th gen and barely dealt with the slow crank on hot starts. It wasn’t an issue most of the time, if not all. The OEM starter motor eventually gave out abruptly and suddenly after I parked it on a super hot 103+ F day out. Wouldn’t crank over at all; car was fine, as well as the battery and terminals, grounds, etc.
I eventually did add some 4-ga “battery to switch” cables, to use as the trunk battery auxiliary ground; and I used the other one to makeshift a ground from the driver’s side of the engine block, going to a spot on the passenger side on the frame/chassis, where a small ground wire already exists.
I ended up heat-wrapping a cheap generic, aftermarket starter with the DEI Mini-Versa heat resistant blanket, and some metal zip ties to keep the velcro from coming apart.
I just bought a welding mat, seems to be much more than enough if it can handle map gas and cheaper too.
Holy shit - that’s an amazing idea. Dude I think you just dumped a secret onto the world. I kinda wanna this in a video and test the heat resistance of stuff.
@@MatthewFinlay being a cheap bastard that I am I cant justify paying 60 bucks for these precut heatshields when welding mats only costs 20 or less, I paid 15 for half a meter one.
I tested it with my mapp torch it kinda burnt it a lil bit as it was directly heated but I doubt the ambient temperature around the engine will ever reach 5000f
@GCS88 ya dude that’s kick ass - you know the materials they put into these things can’t be more than a couple dollars
@@MatthewFinlay Give it a try though I'm too lazy to take temp difference myself 😁 when I was looking for a starter wraps online I actually thought 'isnt these the same as welding mats?' so since I was replacing my starter motor just yesterday I though I might as well try it on as an experiment and I still have 500cm left over for something else 😃
Came to this video happy and full of life, this guy makes me wanna hit someone !
Dad?! Is that you? I knew you’d come home!!
Personally, I think you should have gone with option number A.
Hmmmmmm, I’ll consider it - but have you considered also number A???
@@MatthewFinlay Oh no no no. In my inexperience, that option rarely works.
Not with that attitude it won’t. Definitely go with A then, all the other number A’s just won’t do.
This product did not work for me.
Dang that’s sucks, I’m sorry bud. Can I ask what your setup is?
2 minute video turned into a 8 min. short story.
Don’t make me make the next video 10 minutes mister

I bought the same One couple weeks later. I just happened to start the car before I closed the hood and luckily caught a fire that started on the wrap.... I pute it out took off the wrap haven't put it back on because yeah fuck that
Holy crap, I guess the next video just gotta light it on fire and see what happens!?
@@MatthewFinlay hey if you got an extra one that would finally give me closure because its been driving me crazy not knowing if i should put it back on
Can I buy the Rx car off you? Please.
I’m not sure what you mean by Rx car?
The Buick Riviera in the video?
@@MatthewFinlay sorry typo. The rc*** car
Ahh that’s makes so much more sense! Send me an email to 12vfab@gmail.com and we can figure it out
@@MatthewFinlay word? No way! I'll definitely email you about it
