I prefer their earlier instrumental stuff..They were a blast, had an awesome and unique sound with 3 heavy reverberated guitars. The Astronauts, the Trashmen and the Bobby Fuller 4 proved that you could be among the very best Surf bands ever coming from hundreds of miles to the closest ocean.
I remember this movie...Frankie Randall...was a Frank Sinatra sound alike...He didn't TRY to sound like Sinatra...but just did.. He had a career as a standards singer..and was respected by all those name standards singers..He passed away, a few years ago.. The Astronauts were a fun band...They had a lot of those back then..
Their usual Fender gear: "Rich Fifield on lead..the Jazzmaster, The two rhythms, Jaguars, are Bob Demon and Dennis Lindsey, both now deceased. Bass is Stormy Paterson and on Drums Jim Gallagher."
sauquoit13456: I was just two weeks from starting third grade on August 25th, 1965, when this movie first came out. Exactly 22 years later (in August of '87), this movie was shown on Channel 3 here in Philadelphia, and I taped it. John Davidson's future wife was in this movie. (She's the one with the blonde flip hairdo.) I also think that this was Cher's movie debut. Because it was also 22 years later that she won the Oscar for "Moonstruck."
On this day in 1965 {August 25th} the movie "Wild On The Beach" had its world premier... The Astonauts perform the open theme plus "Rock This World", "Little Speedy Gonzalez", "Pyramid Stomp", and "Snap It"; none of these songs ever charted... Their only charted record was the instrumental "BaJa {Ba-Ha}"; which spent one week on the Top 100 at position #94... Sonny and Cher sang a song titled "It's Gonna Rain" and Sandy Nelson performed "Drum Dance"; neither made the Top 100 chart...
Storm Patterson is missing from the band. Bob Demmon is pretending to play bass, which was Stormy's instrument. Does anyone know if there are any actual videos of The Astronauts live from back in the mid-60's?
No idea why Stormy Patterson is not here?? But Bob Demmon was playing bass in the Astronauts/Stormtroupers before they signed with RCA. Supposedly, for the visual (and girls??), RCA said it needed to be Stormy on bass (because he was tall and beefy). So Bob and Stormy swapped axes. I don't really know guitars much, but in 1967 Bob Demmon turned up at our high school to become the band director. Which we were all stoked about. For videos, the Astronauts were on 'Hullabaloo' a few times and it may be on RUclips? And in about four of these beach party teenage movies.
I think Stormy had been drafted. The Astronauts as you know were in a few other movies and television shows. A while back I found a video of them performing Twist and Shout on Japanese television show.

The right way to play a P Bass. With a pick.
J.D. Leslie except that’s not a P bass, it’s. Jazz bass.

Oh man, she did that on purpose.
Who’s the lead singer?
Rich Fifield, who was also their lead guitar player.
So That's the reason they never made it big.
