Joselyn, don’t be afraid to drive the beast you can do it. Driving big vehicles gives you such an empowering and satisfying feeling. You will love it. Make us proud!
Yep. I love your attitude. This is how experience is gained. By doing the research, then doing the deed! Keep filming everything, the edits is just perfect at the moment.
So glad you got into vanlife, many vanlifers are into timelapses with not much helpful instruction. I know your videos will be super helpful for others looking to build their owns!
Congrats on beginning the build. One thing you might want to consider: Thermal leaks via penetrations through your thermal layer, to the exterior. The screws through the 2x2, when it is cold outside, can cause condensation inside, at the screw. Perhaps you have read up on this, and have decided what you can live with. It can be a serious issue though, down the road, when you draw in condensation.
@@doi467 There's no definitive solution, just build considerations. Some people don't address it at all because they don't plan to use their bus/rv in cold climates. For those that wish to address it, there's a variety of strategies, none perfect. Basic version, avoid as best possible, connecting the interior space (where moisture will exist) via metal, with the exterior, where there is cold. Sometimes this can be improved by removing moisture supplied from the interior space. Given that there is going to be cooking inside, that is likely not an avenue to pursue. Some people 'wedge-fit' the structure of their insulating layer. Some spray foam the insulation and free float the interior. School bus conversion forums (skoolie) will have some good information on this. Good luck!
@@doi467 the screws don't "draw in" condensation: moisture is not passing through either the metal of the screw, nor the floor and coming into the van. What can happen is condensation ALREADY IN THE VAN, being drawn to the cold surface. You can use something like Undercoating to put a thick coat on the screws on the underside which will somewhat insulation them. I chose to create a vapor barrier to the under floor area as opposed to them here leaving the ends open for supposed "air flow" (which to me won't happen as there's nothing to create "flow", just dead air once you get even around 1 foot from the ends, where high enough condensation from say, cooking in the van, or using propane heat, can create mold. Since my Polyiso board is foil backed and all of the sections are sealed to be as one with aluminum tape (as they did here), and then sealed with the tape to the floor to create a vapor barrier I'm minimizing moisture access below the decking alltogether. I also will never use propane to cook or heat with, instead using electric, and in the future, a diesel heater in the van, which reduces the humidity in the van.

Thanks for doing the research. I always wondered how van builders created the flooring. Very informative. Wish you both success on this channel. Take care and have fun!
You might not be an expert at van building Taku, but you do work very well as you do with a knife and at cooking, with precision and great results. When the first lockdown occured, you review three cheap japanese knifes, it was my first outdoor chef episode and I instantly became a huge fan.
@@bkirstie not specifically on this one but any time someone does anything outside their common trade There’s always trolls around to cause problems. Just propping him up for doing what he can. 💪✌️
Taku & jos , this is going to be great , you can make this camper any way you can dream , you may want to check out some motor homes and RV centers to see what they can offer for space saving ideas and products, and deals , stuff like roof racks and a ladder on back to get to it, canopies that roll out for the sides so you can cook outside and still keep the rain off you , solar packages and mobile communication , water tanks , I’m excited to see what you two do with this vehicle, this is a total game changer 👍🏼.
I am beyond stoke for this!! Also if you ever want a good bond for stuff to adhere better than use some sand paper and sand down the areas that you are about to stick together so they have a surface to attach to and boom they are 2x as strong as just glueing them down
Take it to New Zealand South Island and take a Highway 6 from Hokitika to Queenstown, the scenic beauty is unreal. And then from Queenstown to Milford Sound!!
I am impressed with the obvious amount of preplanning done. I am sure you will find things you'd do differently after you're all done but I think it's a great start!
A few things you should build into the van 1) Chinese Diesel Parking Heater from amazon. 2) An indoor/outdoor shower. Some do it off the back door and make a curtain area and I've seen one where they made the shower at the door step on the slide door.
Make sure you seal up any of that metal frame you drill into... even the smallest amount of moisture can cause that to rust up really quick! Looking forward to this series, cant wait to see the finished product!
I was really hoping you two would share the build details. Looks like you are putting the a lot of thought and planning into it. This is going to be awesome!
🎉🌟Congratulations !!!! So Happy for you both ! Now you can travel , fish and cook WoW !! please visit the Northeast, looking forward to your new adventures 💕🎣🚐👍✨
Can't wait till New Zealand Van Life, my life long goal! Can't wait for your guys VanLife Channel sure to blow up the internet(if your not fake) Then Big Sur Homestead Life Tiny Home, Chickens, goats, and forest garden!.....and a couple little Mexicanese! #EpicAdventures

So awesome!! This is going to be the most fun van build ever!❤️. I love that you’re just “going for it”! You don’t need to be an expert, just do it!!!🔥
I think that more people need to be like that. too many people afraid to make mistakes. instead of just going for it. A lot of people are afraid to step off the cliff and see where it takes them, miss out on life like that, props to these two for just having an idea/dream and going for it!
I like that your just going for it! We just got the exact same van as you guys awhile back except the 170 4x4 and it’s been such an awesome family rig! I can’t wait to keep seeing what you guys do with it!
Bit late now, and also expensive, but some Lizard Skin ceramic insulation liner would have been an awesome idea. Buy yourselves a bunch of DynaMat or similar sound deadening for walls/roof. You won't regret it. Probably wouldn't have hurt to put some under the floor too, though the insulation might be enough. Looks like you two are off to a great start! Look forward to more build vids.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of your build, I'm currently working on a brand new ProMaster 2500 build, just waiting for the snow to melt and a little bit of warmer weather to start.
You could've use the tie down nuts for holding the subfloor without screwing into the sheet metal. I would've skip wooden frame all together to avoid squeezing. Unless you plan to camp in really cold conditions, some thinsulate or foam would've been sufficient.
Awesome Taku! Didn't think we would get a van update so quick! I bet you could use a stud finder to find those beams in the floor when you need to drill? Maybe check that out?
My top genre of videos are travel /cooking / foodie.
Catch & cook and van builds / tiny houses ,
This channel is perfect for me 😂 so excited !!

I am exited for this new series! you should do a van camping trip with Lief.
Oh for sure!
....and go teach Van City Van Life how to catch and cook!
I clicked as fast as I could! I am genuinely excited for this series "Outdoor Van Life"

My brother did something similar to a van and the best thing he did was sound proofing all the walls it made it way nicer to live in.

You'll never do it right for everyone, but at least you're doing it! This is awesome!
Nice find, plenty of headroom!
That's some good work, you two!
I love the way you explain the basics of why you lay out the support beams for the furniture.
Think about running conduit so you can pull cable/wires where you need? Excited for you and this project!
The Outdoor Carpenter Life!
So keen to see you guys go on adventures in this spaceship!
Make sure the weight is balanced out so it doesn’t affect the driving.. can’t wait to see the finished product!!!!!
Yes come to New Zealand you will not be disappointed !
I appreciate adventurous people
Loved watching you guys build the floor. Love all your videos. Can't wait for the other van building videos. Good luck. Great job guys! Lots of love
