Also make sure you whip that thing around the block a few times throughout some of these stages of install... that way you can secure things better that may make noise while driving. The last thing you'll want is to have a tapping or knocking noise every time you drive but it is buried too deep to fix easily. So fun to watch you guys on this journey! Keep it up!
Use a little auto door trim on that panel lip where you have the tape to protect the wires from chafing. Little better than tape. Just a thought. Keep it up 👍🏼
Great work Taku and Joshlin. Only one thing. Not sure I like idea of sleeping near batteries. Some builds put batteries behind drivers seats. Also closer to alternator. Less wires to have something go bad.
I've a suggestion as an alternative to another shelf over the seats in the cab: use cargo nets. You can get the ones made out of material similar to bungee cords, so they're a little flexible. Great for holding jackets or shoes or food storage, etc. And when they're empty or nearly so, they hardly take up any space at all. Loving this series right now. How awesome is Jocelyn with her overalls and gettin' after it! Can't wait for the next one!
I don’t know if you are doin this but I noticed you drilling passage ways for the electrical cords. I hope you are remembering to primer coat any bit of metal that you are drilling, cutting into or screwing into. As there will be moisture passing through every inch of your van you want to do what ever you can to avoid rust. Digging the van build series as I dream of van life all the time and it’s a nice change up from the catch and cooks. Keep up the awesome work🙌
well dang, I watch Outdoor Chef Life quite a bit and was just unrelatedly (so I thought) searching van builds and imagine my surprise seeing this lol awesome!
in addition to others mentioning breakers, fuse boxes, you should also add soundproofing material along with the insulation, e.g. Dynamat. It will make a world of difference.
If you look at your laptop power converters, most of them output between 12 and 19v DC. IOW, you can usually run them off of your battery without the DC converter. My FIT PC is wired to my house DC bank on my boat. Works fine.
The stock rivet nut the tools provides likely make of low grade material, which might easily rust over time. Can consider getting some Alu one or even Steel one. If you wanna replace, just drill it out. Cheers.
Get a "fish tape" from home depot for running wires if you ever struggle. It's a life saver. 4 guage wire between batteries and I guess 14 guage is fine for everything else. They run 12v outlets capable of 25 amps or more with at least 12 guage. But you should be alright. But you seem to be doing great for someone without electrical experience. Remember if you are charging using a alternator get a dc to dc charger! The renology one is good but the victron 30 amp is better. (I've had both)
i like your windows! but consider adding some insulation on the piece of the van thats exposed under the bottom ledge of the window. Small exposures can cause lots of heat loss, im from up north so it makes a big diff especially when the spot is next to your sleeping area
still surprised expected all outdoor chef life fans to be here like me. love this different side of you both. and jocelyn is more vocal on this channel
AC wiring has three the purpose of the third wire the green is the protection wire ground, the white is the neutral and black is the hot leg. AC is alternating current basically non directional, DC direct current goes in one direction.
Use pinch molding around all the sharp edges to keep the wire safe I'm chafing or you could use the plastic wire molding at the sharp edges on the walls. Looking good can't wait to see the rest of the process. Great video keep up the good work.
Obviously too late for you guys, but anyone reading this. The reason you secure the insulation with tape or adhesive is that the vibration of the van will collapse it over time and it will all bunch at the bottom of the cavity. You only need to secure the top of each piece to stop this from happening.
You could've just notch the wood instead of drilling through the roof supports. You also need insulation in the roof ribs. which is one of the larges area for condensation.
Should probably take a pic of all the wiring exposed just so you know where they are. You might need to make a few holes through the completed walls in the future. Also, energy from gas is very cheap, should consider a gas water heater or on-demand electric.
Hey for the window/shelf use a router or something and make little spots for the spices to just sit in. Like a notch. I don't know if what I'm saying makes sense
Suggestion... after pulling your first wire, could have used a pull string in case you need to run more wires from the same area back to the power point
Looks great so far. You are definitely putting a huge effort in to the van. Can't wait to see the final result. I'm sure it will be great. #OutdoorVanLife
In household electrical, 12/3 AC wires are actually 4 twelve gauge wires, 2 hots (black and red), 1 neutral (white), and a ground (green or bare). Must be different for automotive/camper wiring.
You shouldn't tighten the zip ties, and you should only have one zip tie per wire as a good rule of thumb. If the wire has any preasure it could heat up and melt the sheathing which is bad. Just make sure the wire can slide inside the zip tie.
Don’t forget for lighting use real LED , they cost a bit more , but LAST longer and brighter and use way less power Maybe have hidden drawers under the bed Walmart sell these rubber edge cover which could easily slide over those sharp edges .
Hate to be debbie downer but the 3m sticky zip tie supports don’t do well with heat. If you are mounting then anywhere metal that conducts heat (especially the roof) they will probably fall off the first summer. You might think about using the plastic ones that can screw into metal.
As you may have mentioned in one of your videos already, I haven't got to all of your build videos yet but was curious on how much did this entire project costs you? How much for the van and how much for the entire build materials? thanks
I wanna make RUclips Videos for a living... “Well there will be plenty of time for making RUclips videos, when you’re LIVING IN A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER.” Lol, for real tho, this looks like a fantastic setup.
Hello! So how many rolls of 20" x 60' thinsulate did you need to finish your insulation? Great work by the way your really moving along with your project! Your making me feel guilty you know why? I have all the stuff you've used in this video and the only thing I've done is put in two Maxxair fans. Can you say procrastination!! but it's also been 10° F here too! Keep the Vids coming I really like your progress because it's more than mine LOL.
plz tell me you are going to put in a filter for the fans...otherwise dust city :( you should split the lights so you don't drain battery too fast...like 2/3 bed/cooking or are they manually turned on...each one? not installed switches? OMG i am so happy am i the first to notice? XD I am so happy for you two XD
Also make sure you whip that thing around the block a few times throughout some of these stages of install... that way you can secure things better that may make noise while driving. Good point. All it takes is one wire that is not properly held down tapping against something to drive you nuts!
The plants under the window can be herbs you can use for cooking.
You’re about to get that 3M sponsorship 😂 keep up the great work man, can’t wait to see it finished

Great work Taku and Joshlin.
Only one thing. Not sure I like idea of sleeping near batteries. Some builds put batteries behind drivers seats. Also closer to alternator. Less wires to have something go bad.
I really enjoying you watching you get your van ready. It is very educational keep up the good work

This series is sooooooooo exciting to watch because I’m sure it’s going to look so cool when the van is done!!!!
Thanks!
Thought I saw your van with solar already installed on clement street about 9:30 this morning. I clearly saw the back vent on the top of the van.
Nicely done. Loves the idea of using existing holes in the van. Heads to Amzn😆. Stay safe and TFS💖
Both of you are doing so good, this is existing. I'm sure you both will have so much fun
Just when I thought I have enough Van build subscription, I had to add one more.
3M should definitely sponsor this project! Always look forward to seeing your videos.
Really nice to see the progress of your project.
I really hope that Van makes it to Alaska for some summer content, would love to see a collab between you guys and Simple Living Alaska!
well dang, I watch Outdoor Chef Life quite a bit and was just unrelatedly (so I thought) searching van builds and imagine my surprise seeing this lol awesome!
real crafty man. looking forward to it being finished!
in addition to others mentioning breakers, fuse boxes, you should also add soundproofing material along with the insulation, e.g. Dynamat. It will make a world of difference.
Yup, already installed it
Great Job to you both !!! Taklyn the world is right. Enjoying the van build, can't wait to see more 😍 🚐 👍
Very much enjoying the series so far... can’t wait to see more...

All those wires! I would be lost and have a headache. Good luck Taku & Jocelyn.
Love these videos.
still surprised expected all outdoor chef life fans to be here like me. love this different side of you both. and jocelyn is more vocal on this channel
Can’t wait to see it completed and making videos out of the van😀
Oh my! Wired!
AC wiring has three the purpose of the third wire the green is the protection wire ground, the white is the neutral and black is the hot leg. AC is alternating current basically non directional, DC direct current goes in one direction.
Great to see the progress you're both making. Well done.

Great down-to-earth videos and showing How to do it and what to use. Keep them coming!
nice work man remember the vehicle moves so alot of cabinets is good to hold things like spices
Building a van too... cool...!!! 😎

It’s gonna be worth it
Clean job
Think solar for lighting it helps a lot.
Watching you two build the van make me want to start one too
Great addition to Taku Tuesdays!
cant wait to see the final reveal
Coming along NICELY guys, Great update on the Build Series 👊🏼😎🤙🏼
Wish it was done and I could just binge it all. Looking good guys!
WOOOOO! This is getting so intense! one day i want to do this too!
Me too!
love the content since it's you and that Jocelyn is not a girly girl. Awesome
Nice work bro!
Lookin good. ............

Hi is gas propane (as in those white tanks) or butane?
Can’t wait to be apart of your future videos
Hey for the window/shelf use a router or something and make little spots for the spices to just sit in. Like a notch. I don't know if what I'm saying makes sense
It makes perfect sense. We've considered it but also considering using magnetized spices.
Suggestion... after pulling your first wire, could have used a pull string in case you need to run more wires from the same area back to the power point
So excited to see the end result.
Looking good!
I've been seeing the build on instagram thinking, "when is this going to be on the channel!", not realizing you had a 2nd one. Doh!
Should’ve removed the liner above the cab shelf to get more space
keep it up i cant wait to see it done guys!!!
great work!!! Thank you both T+J !!
Looks great so far. You are definitely putting a huge effort in to the van. Can't wait to see the final result. I'm sure it will be great. #OutdoorVanLife

This was always my dream to do..I already quit my job 2yrs road tripping done..now I need vanlyfe or buslyfe
Taklyn the van . . . life.
Don’t forget for lighting use real LED , they cost a bit more , but LAST longer and brighter and use way less power
Maybe have hidden drawers under the bed
Walmart sell these rubber edge cover which could easily slide over those sharp edges .
NICE! Love These kinds of vids!
woohoo Taklyn Mondays!
Nice Addicted hat!!!
YAS I LOVE THESE VIDEOS! It’s something I would diy too!
Lots of wires! Looks nice though!
wouldnt it be cheaper to get a small motor home or RV?
As one of my other RUclipsr says “gotta use that CAD (Cardboard Aided Design)” 😁
Yep! And WAAY cheaper than SolidWorks! LOL
Hate to be debbie downer but the 3m sticky zip tie supports don’t do well with heat. If you are mounting then anywhere metal that conducts heat (especially the roof) they will probably fall off the first summer. You might think about using the plastic ones that can screw into metal.
Love it
You gonna do some discrete compartments?
As you may have mentioned in one of your videos already, I haven't got to all of your build videos yet but was curious on how much did this entire project costs you? How much for the van and how much for the entire build materials? thanks
Love the video, really inspirational on a DIY project. Btw are you guys expecting a little one? Just asking for a friend...lol
How tall r u that you need 3 more inches for sleep? Those extension nooks make it cold in van.
Are you going for solar panels on the roof?
Just curious. how many feet of DC wire did you used?
I wanna make RUclips Videos for a living...
“Well there will be plenty of time for making RUclips videos, when you’re LIVING IN A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER.” Lol, for real tho, this looks like a fantastic setup.
I realize the van is made for hauling stuff, but with all the stuff you're adding, will the van need more horsepower or stronger suspension?
The model he has can haul 5000-7500 pounds so i don't think he needs to upgrade the suspension plus i think it goes down in value
could always count on taku to be thorough and clear when it comes to content!
These nuts! lol I’m in the hospital on morphine. I blame the pain killers!
Epic

Who ya been watching for inspiration EVL, Or AVM?
Will there be any engine or transmission upgrades since putting a lot more weight to the van?
those vans are meant to be work vans and can handle the weight. + its brand new
And you might regret having so many lights leds are bright
Dimmer
its sunday :( but no van
That water heater eats amps...I hope that’s 12 gauge....
ayyy sup taku
plz tell me you are going to put in a filter for the fans...otherwise dust city :(
