    Great video. Used Silent coat before - good stuff. One thing to add is that if you van is fitted with seatbelt pretensioners don’t fill the cavity that houses the seatbelt assembly with wool/foam insulation. Potential fire risk in a crash.
    T5’s don’t have pretensioners as you guys know but I thought I’d mention it in case any of your viewers are doing different vans.

    I spent most of this winter in a completely uninsulated van. Granted, temps in my area usually don't drop much below 4C, but, with a good sleeping bag, it's managable. Only reason I'd need insulation is for road noise during those times I'm "forced" to sleep on a relatively busy street (rather not wear earplugs).

    • @dirknoom4389
      @dirknoom4389 5 лет назад

      You might want to consider wearing external ear protection. It limits your sleeping positions a bit, but it's more comfortable and easier to take on and off than earplugs. I find i t's usually better than trying to sleep with sound in the background.

    I've found that the sound deadening works great, but I abide by the 25% rule; after that it decreases the decibel level but it does not actually deaden the van any further. After the 25% I move over to sound insulating foam - it's lighter, does not deaden but that is already achieved - and decreases the db levels.

      i have to agree. I think its good advice to put the moisture barrier as the most inner layer to stop moisture from reaching your insulating layers.This will stop the moisture reaching the outer/colder layers where it would condense and cause water in the bottom the cavity - basically avoiding what he said at the start if the video. i can't understand why these professionals don't follow basic principles for this.

    • @chrishoulding5065
      @chrishoulding5065 5 лет назад +2

      @@athertop So what happens when you get moisture behind the vapour barrier which I believe would be bound to occur at some point however well you think you have done it. It would be trapped and have nowhere to go and rot your van. Ventilation is the key to keeping moisture from condensing and trying to seal a van up is counterproductive. think these videos are really professional and make practical sense but at the end of the day its your vehicle and your choice but just because someone has a different opinion it doesn't make it invalid or unprofessional.

    Hi, thanks for video. So can you glue carpet straight onto that first sound deadening layer on the arches? Many thanks

    What do you put over the thermal fleece? Should I put another thermo van liner over this?

    Great helpful vid. Just a question. With doing the floor, would you place any sound deadening/ insulation down first and place batons on top, or batons first then sound deadening/ insulation in the gaps to then place floor on top?
    Thanks

    Great vid. Should a mask be worn when using the recycled plastic fabric?
