- Please note, we have updated and improved our materials in treating a van this size. Rather than the Insul Layer 6mm foam used in this video we now recommend and include, Van Liner, a 10mm closed cell foam with a foil face, in our small van packs. This upgraded product provides further insulation qualities. You can find our small van packs here www.carbuilders.com.au/van-so...

Now the kids cant cry for help. Thanks!!
such a job dedication is absolutely awesome.
great video with an appropriate music!
Well tap on it man. We want to hear it for ourselves!
I wish there was someone that I could find to do this for me. You are an artist!
Excellent! I would like to hear a before and after drive, with a decibel meter. A loud car fatigues the driver.
I'm with you....Can't wait to see how you create in this an amazing system
I have learned a lot watching your videos and applied what I've learned applying these type of materials on my car :) . Thanks
Awesome. Good luck with your project Ricardo🤙
@@carbuilders1 Thank you !
Excellent video. Thank you!
Awesome work man! /two thumbs up
Thank you very much 👍
Car Builders awesome videos good sir. Detailed and yet very to-the-point, no ramblings.
Could you ever find time to do a Suzuki Samurai, the old SJ ones? I dunno how popular/available they are in your part of the world, but they're quite well known and extensively used elsewhere. It's a tall rattle can and can be very hard to keep cool/warm...
Thank you Abbas. I will put it on the list. The same dynamics are in play with these installs when deadening panels and insulating, however it's always good to see it in your own vehicle. 😎👍
Nice work, thank you.
Professional work, MachaAllah
Thank you 👍
Great video fellas. For anyone wondering, the deadener and insulayer these guys produce is top drawer, my Sprinter van is whisper quiet whilst driving now.
Stefan Zahariou Thank you for the feedback! Glad to hear the Sprinter is now a more comfortable ride 😎👍
Do you know what the off-gassing like, for air quality?
This should be an essential step for a camper conversion. The sound deadening would not only provide a quieter ride, but a quieter place to sleep, and probably some thermal insulation, too.
👍👍
An important step for any van. The sound deadening will absolutely provide a quieter ride, as well as thermal insulation.
Excellent video. This is the correct way to dampen a car. Well done.
Thank you Ed.
❤🖒😇👌❤GREAT JOB!
LOOKS CLEAN N BEAUTIFUL. THATS WHY YOUR A PROFESSIONAL!💋LOVE FROM U.S.A.~LISA.
Thank you Lisa 😎👍
I have an Iload/starex just like that, but a 2008 model, looks exactly the same. The funny thing is that the support gussets over the wheel housing is lose. It's not welded to the side sheet panels. On mine there is even a gap of up to three millimeters. And I find that funny, the reason those gussets are there, is to support the side panel. Mine are kinda glued with a couple of blobs of what appears to be welding protecting mass. Anyway, I will be doing exactly this kind of sound insulating upgrade. But I will stop with the butyl sheets and just sprayglue some polyester sheets on in a couple of places. Also I took of the whole tree inner floor, and there is a big thin steel sheets to apply butyl mats on aswell. I will be building a gas sound system to it with amplifier. I got the sheet metal wall behind the seats though. Here in sweden we need a wall between the loading area and the passenger area. Anyway nice to have seen this video. It's nice to see an exact car upholstered. Thanks
Thank you Helikopterpop. Interesting differences. Good luck with your project 👍
My honest opinion: 1. Pretty subpar installation of the first layer. 2.Stellar installation of the second layer, especially on the roof and sides. 3. That foam is to be used only on the roof. It's perfect there, because of its light weight. 4.There are different materials for sides, and wheel arches. The one for wheel arches is a sandwich of membranes, that includes a memory foam. Similar is the one for the floor. 5. This is a very good video, for instructional purposes. As for details, everyone can work them out to their personal preferences.
Thanks for sharing
Aw maaaaaan, I was waiting for the comparison of the before and after drive. I wanted to hear how it sounded after the installation. :(
dope info
Could you post some links to the products? Love the tradesman approach you have to the installs 👌 great contents 👍
Thank you. You can find all our products at www.carbuilders.com.au 😎👍
hahaa brilliant now i see how an expert does it!!! cant wait to get started thanks buddy.
Awesome 😎Thank you spencer 👍
Very nice.
Thank you Karen 👍
@@carbuilders1, you're very welcome!
Unlike the ... oh, I dunno whatcha may call 'em... idiots?...I don't need decibel meters and a "before and after drive" to be assured that what you've done, and shown, and explained, and verified by demonstration of knocking and banging, has improved the noise level remarkably. I mean, who doesn't know that when you adhere insular foam to something ....
Anyway, it was, as I said, such a "very nice" installation - very pleasing to look upon - that almost made me love black. I could love it if it were done in a noisy red van... yeah... that would look sharp!
I wish you had the sound afterwards.
Thanks for the feedback Eng Dude. We have been including sound afterwards now, with our most recent being the Troopy Install.
I ask the owner of this video to contact me, I am Muhammad from Egypt, 31 years old, on WhatsApp number 00201013399914
Great video. I also have Iload. How many m2 of sound deadner did you use? Thank you.
Hey mate, love the videos just bought a bunch of products for my Hiace campervan project but I didn't add the stage one to my cart😂😂
How many boxes would you recommend for a 2017 lwb Hiace?
i wish you was here in the uk
Thanks Andy. We aim to be there in the not too distant future.
Very professional
Thank you Sam 7777 👍
The music reminds me of a game i played on the Playstation called driver
Go with the 6mm you can do the same through out this van as well as the floor.
Was hoping to see a clip of the van driving after for comparison
I would be interested to hear before and after db levels in the van at highway speed.
Hi John. We're doing another van install early in 2021 and we'll make sure we get that data in the video. 👍
Hi @carbuilders
Are your products available in the UK yet? Or any view to getting a dealer over here? I currently use dodo mat buts it's sometimes hard to come by and I love your products.
Good on you mate have a question, I have gmc Savana hitop conversion van with fiberglass roof. Removed the ceiling and put up 1/2” polyiso to save headroom. Final ceiling will be 1/4” cedar planks and seeking what best material to attach them to on top of polyiso. I hear a lot of rain noise so what to do for acoustics sound deadening. Learned about new product called 4mm Sound Shield. Amazing difference more than noisome and dynamat. I planned another layer 1/2” polyiso attaching very lightweight planks directly on it after painting surface black so to have 1” insulation but now thinking taking back down the 1/2” polyiso a simple chore then layer Sound Shield then up with the poly again. The stuff is expensive $120 for 11sq’ so thought use it on 30% of rear portion roof and fill in with less expensive similar product although perhaps the 11sq’ of the 36sq’ ceiling is enough? Again headroom so only have 1” total for insulation sound deadening. And hi end sound system so wanting absolute best sound. On top. Of the poly iso I could do thin layer of acoustic sheet or blanket ? What do you think
Also there are 3 big windows and 4 door windows needing acoustic treatment of some sort
Thanks for the very detailed and thorough video. I’ve concerns about heat. Do you have any temperature effectiveness results for a van in the sun? (It seems that lining a van ceiling with black product would produce a giant roasting pan)
Hi Tranquility Travel. We will post a video shortly (hopefully in the coming weeks) where we complete this testing in a video for you. However, the black of the foam in this application isn't significant as it isn't in direct sunlight and therefore isn't absorbing light (heat). The factor that is important here is the colour of the van as it is going to be in the sunlight and it will either reflect or absorb heat depending on the colour. 😎👍
Why do you need the sound deadener and the closed-cell foam? Wouldn't the closed-cell foam work as a sound deadener by itself? Thanks.
Thanks for the question. They do have different purposes. The sound deadener is dampening vibration in sheet metal whereas the foam replaces the old factory underlay which have their failings. The foam is a de-coupling layer and has both some external noise and heat qualities. We go into further detail in our video ruclips.net/video/P4ylKyoY_oU/видео.html 👍
Curious as to why you use this stage 2 over the stage 2 10mm that is included in the van pack?
Would have been cool if you had taken the vehicle for a drive after you had completed the work for the sound comparison - before and after.
Would it be suitable to line my van with the black foam in a wet, cold climate country like here in Scotland? Or could it cause mould/mildew issues
Hi braapgng. A closed cell foam will not hold water and will act as a condensation barrier 👍
Just purchased a Ford 2019 Transit High Roof. How much would you charge to do he back of the van?
Hi Chris. Give us a call (03 8777 0960) and we can provide a quote 👍
Does this also damp proof the van against moisture?
If I put this in my van, I would need to know the VOC/off-gassing levels, for air quality. Looks like great products. Curious as to the thermal insulative properties they happen to aid, as well.
Ive never noticed any smell s coming from the vehicles i do in this exact brand of gear, you might get a tiny bit from the mass vinyl stuff but it was not enough to upset me and thats a. High tolerance
Why didn’t you use black carpet on the wheel arches so it blends in with insulation
Grey looks odd to me
is that rubber sheets with adhesive? how does the sound dampening work with those? extra mass?
Hi SnortTroll. The Stage 1 adds mass direct to the panel, which limits vibration generated noise. The mass loaded vinyl products act as a sound blanket barrier for external noises.
LOL I thought my Van was the only one.
😆
Hi what spray adhesive did your use??
What do I use to pre-clean the surfaces
Would lizard skin work as well as this technique? Nice work!
Hi Gina. Yes, Lizard Sound Control would replace the Sound Deadener butyl mats and Lizard Skin Ceramic (heat control) would also act as a vapour barrier. Another option you have is the Van Liner (www.carbuilders.com.au/van-liner) which will create a vapour barrier and also provide thermal installation.
If you had driven it after the installation we could have made a noise comparison.
If i went inside your van and started singing real loud at 2am in the morning when everyone in the neighbourhood is sleeping would they be able to hear me?
lmao
Better yet: if you were thrown in the van in the middle of the night, could anyone hear you scream?
Legit came to see how loud the karaoke machine could go with this installation. 🤣
@@BoSS-dw1on True haha
Are the things in the window for sound or heat?
my old 98 hi ace, wasn't that noisy. i like the idea, for my next van, even though its going to a camper convert. but its still going to carry some forward of the wheelbase. i watched twice, still didn't get the name of the insulation an carpet.
Hi Greg. The materials used in this install are Car Builders products www.carbuilders.com.au/
@@carbuilders1 thanks mate, i'll look into that, i'mm looking for another van now, my old 98 hi ace wore out at just on 500 thou!
Good job
Quel produit exactement avez vous utilisé?
Thank you Henrique. I have edited in the products used in the description 👍
can the insulation be cut into smaller sections to make it easier
Hi lanuk. Yes, it can. You will find you need to cut the Stage 1 deadener into many different shapes especially when fitting in doors and inside cavities.
How much of this materials did you use to cover this car ?
Hi HeliumCat. You can see the quantities of each material we used in install here www.carbuilders.com.au/van-packs It was an iLoad pack.
How much does a process like this cost? I have a 2006 dodge sprinter van and am looking to reduce the noise.
Hi GodOfReality. To guide you in costing, you can find the prices of our van pack here www.carbuilders.com.au/vehicle-packs/vans/ 👍
what an ending haha
Haha.. we have got better at editing over the past couple of years
Why not install it from the outside of the van? It'd definitely be much easier...would it be as effective?
Hi Satyajeet. With carpeting we often do it on the panel walls outside the van and then just install to make it easier on the back.
Once the inside of the van was stripped, I would have just taken it to a Line-X shop and have them hit it top-to-bottom. Good video, but seems like a waste of time, compared to just spraying Line-X.
Yes but isn’t line-x labor intensive ie not DIY and expensive?
From what I understand, line-x is prone to rust build.
Just think someone is watching this video to make a kidnapping soundproof van
It rubs the lotion on its skin
Or else it gets the hose again
Yall think i should insulate the floor of my van to dampen sound? Its bare metal now... Suppose ill knock on it and see. I intend to raptor line the interior as ive done on the exterior...
If it is ribbed, vibration-type sound shouldn't be a great issue but as you said tapping it will test it. We still recommend deadening the rear wheel arches. Good luck.
Love the straight forward answer bud! And the fact i got a response from you at all! And the material of the great work you guys do over there!
All the work in that video and you only offered 3 seconds to show the effect at the end.......................
Didnt dona after sound deading drive to show the difference. Nummer
I missed at the end an show off the difference, with before and after sound...
How much for that amount of Material ??
Hi Colm. You can find these products (and van packs) on our website, www.carbuilders.com.au 👍
Where can i buy this 6mm foam??
Hi thai phan. You can find it here.. www.carbuilders.com.au/insul-layer
I couldn't get my carpet to stretch around the wheel arch like that without cutting it in one place and then fold it over.
Nice work. That's how we did it 😉
@@carbuilders1 OH good, I thought it was just my inexperience. Thanks
😎👍
Love your videos and info but those 1 min vids are bit average. This new vid was great!
Thank you for your feedback Daniel!
I Need The Van Sound
😆
Where did you get all this material especially the second application the black carpet like material
Hi Raul. You can find all the materials on www.carbuilders.com.au We used Sound Deadener (Stage 1) we then used Insul Layer 6mm closed cell foam over the top and over the wheel arches our 4-way stretch carpet 👍
Link for material would have been nice.🤷♂️
Sorry mate. That video is older video, check out an iLoad overview of an install we just did. I have links in that one. studio.ruclips.net/user/videoEk8jE9s5F_4/comments
Where is after sound test?
Sorry, this was a customers car and we didn't get an opportunity to go for a drive and film it after installed. We do have this in other video such as our Troopy install video.
Camera work nearly gave me a stroke. Great info though.
😆 Thanks for the feed back Stephen Nee. Did it cut away too often? #clearlycarguysnotspielberg 😆
So let me get this straight, you have a windowless soundproof van? How many people have you "taken for a ride" in that murder box? haha
😬
Why don't you use a rubber mallet/hammer ?
Hi 66longinus. For which task?
For places that require strong pression with the hands. for the pieces of fabric used with contact glue, For places too small for the roller you could use a small rounded rubber hammer. etc...
The issue I have with you headlining is that its permanent and won't cover the wiring very well. And God forbid you want to add anything to the roof later.
Hi bicanoo_magic This can removed. It does take some elbow grease and it's not a job you want to do (we've done it enough to know) but it can be done. The problem with a material in this inversed application is that you don't want it to fail and have the roof lining sagging down on your head. There are low tack materials that you could use. They will be easy to remove however they are also likely to fail.
closed cell foam barely affects sound. it can only be used to decouple surfaces
Hi Jaye. Yes, with the Stage 2 product in the van packs we are looking to stop heat transfer and create a condensation barrier. This layer does also soften sound within what was an echoey space. The Stage 1, is stopping panel resonance 👍
why doesn,t some one do a vid with sound proofing, insulation, moister barriers and all that jazz, and do it the proper way so I don,t have to watch 50,000 fucking videos to work out which one is right?Ill be fucking dead by the time I work this out.
😂🤣😂We will have a video out in the coming months where we will explore several theories with vans but it may be too late for you. Good luck with your project.
That would be tops!!info like that is GOLD,and remember...if you do it wrong..that sticky shit is harder to get off than jizz stains on my computer.
He did such a great job letting you hear how noisy the van was before he did the soundproofing but then never let us hear after??? Very disappointed :(
Sorry. Thank you for the feedback, we are always trying to improve our videos (in this case the job took us much longer due to videoing and the customer was waiting onsite for us to complete it)
Why aren’t you telling us the name of the products you are using??? Doesn’t help a whole lot...
Sorry Cole. This is an older video. We are listing products used now. However, all these products can be found at www.carbuilder.com.au 👍
You did the wheel arches.🤦♂️ Waste of time as they're already rigid. Shoulda just used the foam.
This dude spends more money on the insulation and sound prod than what’s the van worth
Haha..very affordable products
fail .......no end result audio.
So cucked with no after
Lol in answere to ur question no my van doesn't sound like that ....it's much worse..
phh hahaha. You can't sound proof a car/van. You can lessen sounds coming in/going out and lessen unwanted rattles, etc., but you can't sound proof it.
Correct. The title should be 'How to lessen the sound in my van?' 👍
@@carbuilders1 oh idk. i suppose it depends on what you are doing. For me, I want a quiet cabin, lessen my stereo noise from leaving, reduce external noises from coming into the cabin, and also reduce cabin noise, metal vibrating/door panels harmonics.
overkill unless it's inferior product
You can make the Stage 1 deadener go further if you are looking to reduce cost or weight. You will need the same coverage regardless of the quality. The problem with Stage 1 inferior products sold cheaply on eBay is not the dampening ability but rather their low grade butyl composition, meaning it will become runnier at a lower temperature and, if it is in doors or roofs, can cause a mess. Stage 2 products are acting as a sound blanket and, like a hole in a bucket, if you only cover patches, external sounds flows in the gaps. 👍
