For anyone wondering why 'its only 6dB quieter'''; decibels are exponential, so that still means in terms of decibel its about 50% quieter than before. Gains :D
I think you guys have done really well. The 3dB drop you are getting is half the noise (power) has been eliminated. The other thing to consider is that the "noise" we perceive and bothers us is a smaller part of the spectrum than the sound level meter registers. You want some noise like the rumble of the exhaust, the sound of the engine and the suspension because if it changes, you know there is something to fix long before it becomes a deep pain in the wallet. Perhaps the roof and the firewall someday, but see how you go before you bight off more than you want or need to chew. Again, great job, good choice and a great video too!
Yeah we are thinking of maybe doing those spots in the future, but like yeah its a huge improvement already and Liams well not exactly going for the most quietest car around, but its a heap better now!! Thanks for the words Benny as always means a lot ! :)
This video is great 👍 because you keep things moving you don't spend 5 boring minutes talking about what your going to do This was well done guys . Great job!
Great video my pal. I've always been a fan of such stuff. Just a tip to you to consider. I found out that the best sound deadener in the world comes from the Junk yard :) I went to my local junk yard and asked for the factory sound proofing + carpet of a Mercedes S class. You buy it and trim it to the size of your car, then boom you have the luxuries of a German car.
Nice work boys. Good to see up and coming content creators actually doing useful stuff and learning (not just creating stuff for the sake of creating stuff).
i've just gone through all of this with my troopy and the final piece of the puzzle was getting the old exhaust fixed!! Had some big rust holes in it. Really helped sort out the diesel rumble- much quieter now. The deadening helps heaps with road noise and vibrations!
Hey fellas. if you do under the gearsticks boot it will make a ridiculous amout of difference in how quiet it is, i sound deadened my whole cab and until i did that tunnel section it wasnt anywhere near as quiet as it is now. i did a layer of sound deadening, 3mm rubber and then the acoustic liner and screwed it back down. 100% reccomend for any patrol alot of sound comes from there keep up the content!
Primary Benefit: Lower average noise levels. Secondary Benefits: 1. Far better external noise control in traffic. (Better Isolation) 2. Much better in the rain, similarly on dirt roads. 3. Reduced Vibrations! Far fewer squeaks, creaks & rattles. While its "Only" 6dB quiter on average, There are numerous benefits which are NOT captured with a sound meter alone. Great video, Fun to watch you guys work :D Only feedback: One could get away with a lot less material for 95% of the benefits. Covering every square inch of material is somewhat counter productive to the concept of "Damping" out certain frequencies (Such as 'droning' noise at the peak torque RPM.)
Yeah we were thinking about doing it bu, didn't really have enough + Liam wasn't sure if he would be able to get the roof liner back on like a factory finish!
A quick hint when cleaning something, don’t dip the cleaning tool back in to dirty liquid already in the bucket, then use the tool again on what you’re cleaning. Have a 2nd bucket of clean liquid to dip the brush or sponge in to before you start cleaning again. 👍🏻🇦🇺
Just rewatching some videos before you put the soundproofing in and holly shit it’s so good when watching. I just cute out enough so u can still hear the engine but hear u 2 really well
Another good way to reduce noise is an additional weather strip rubber around the internals of the door. Clark rubber have different profile rubber that will work with the factory door rubbers. Did it years ago on an old Holden.
Aussie Arvos Might help to stop the water coming in a bit too 😉 Get the door rubber with the stick on backing. Thin stiff woks best otherwise your door gets hard to shut.
You guys are getting much better with these vids. A lot more professional. Well done! I put Dynamat through my GU and it made a big difference, especially on a long day's driving on dirt. Goodonyer :-)
I was going to do that on my gq wagon and did not know what to use after watching this I know exactly what to use 🤙 good work boys keep it up till next time 👍👍👍
Cheers lads, was thinking of doing this to my GQ to take out the engine noise. This is the first video I've seen that directly addresses the difference in engine noise, could be a dash out operation for me 😂
Couple of questions.. 1) why did you not just stick the mass noise liner onto the vinyl as the original underlay was. 2)Why did you not use Acoustic liner in place of mass noise liner. Bye the way it was an excellent video present. Thanks
How good is the finish, I did the full kit to my wagon and love the results. The improvement to the Stero and taking out the rattle of the old 1hz was awesome. It was a real pain in the ass stripping all the plastic trims and roof liner off a 105 though.
mad the music so much better!! and yeah the cab had a heap of echo and little noises to it that are all gone now! and it just seems to dampen everything really well !
Measuring noise in db can be very deceptive. For every 3db you either double or halve the sound energy. The results you got are fantastic, no wonder you noticed it right away. Well done.
Nice work! What's thte temp difference like? Having a single cab in QLD sun makes it feel like the aircon is fighting a losing battle, would you consider doing the roof?
We are down in vic and haven't had to have the aircon on yet haha but its definitely cooler around the trans tunnel, but maybe might do the roof in the future! heard it does a lot in terms of noise and insulation!
Been thinking about this for gq ute. So good to see someone else do it. Good results to. Maybe mounting camera and db meter for clearer video. Say Like way to much. Subscribed keep the videos coming.
9:06 Wait ... you guys are from Australia? So why you don't appear upside-down? 10:35 If you want a silent car you have to do a lot more and add also a 3rd layer with foam-damping stuff. The roof is literally naked under it's covering. The inner side of the doors, the inner side of the dashboard and the firewall are still naked too. After you've done this all you finally can hear what is also rattling or squieking or humming. ʎuɐɯɹǝ⅁ ɯoɹɟ sƃuıʇǝǝɹ⅁
hey i got a old 91 ln106r hilux and i pull out the old Sound Deadening and i put in the new Sound Deadening from trufit and it made difference it done about 545880km atm almost at to 55000km
Doing my rattle box hilux doing to the doors roof and floor up to the firewall made the biggest difference for noise but the biggest difference I noticed was music sound quality is better and it’s heaps cooler on a hot day inside now
Technically, there is always an improvement. Is the improvement justified by the money spent and significant weight increase ? The more you reduce Noise A, the more you’ll make Noise B be more prominent. On such an old clunker, it’ll still be a very noisy and clunky vehicle
Plus you fellas did not do the firewall so you have no change between the engine and cab. I did a job of that first layer in my Ute plus the roof but not firewall. So good. People love to go for a drive in it now and it's easy to hear each other talk. I can tell your job is ultra sweet from the absence of noise around your speech. But you'll still hear the motor. My BMW has 30mm on the floor from factory.
Yeah, and also. If you want your music to sound even better and stop more road noise. Use the rubber layer to cover the door behind the door cards. Will make audio sound alot better
